Bound to Earth: A CK2 Earthbound Quest in an 8-bit Dystopia

In terms of their relations to our plot, from the looks of things Metapharm might already be aware of Giygas in some manner, Eggman probably won't care about the invasion except in how it effects him personally, and Wily might be the only one to care on a larger level because he's the only big human leader invested in his citizens, who are majority human or human-originated on average.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I said, except Metapharm being aware of Giygas, which is even more worrying.

Police Lockdown in Effect!

An announcement was made on the local news this morning by Captain Strong of the Onnet Police Force following last night's meteor landing.

They declared that they were locking down the entire city of Onnet. Roadblocks have been placed at all entrances and exits to the city.

No one is allowed to leave or enter without express permission from either the mayor or Captain Strong himself.

When asked "Why", Captain Strong simply stared directly at the camera and said:

"You know why".

[Access to areas outside Onnet has been blocked by the O.P.F!]

Ah crap. Looks like Giygas is mentally influencing the Police.

Sharks Mark Territory

This morning you've noticed a lot more graffiti than usual. It could only come from one place, the local gang calling themselves the "Sharks" operating out of the local arcade. Before today they mostly came off like a bunch of bored teens trying to pass the time. Now though, as you walk the streets, you swear you can see some of them patrolling. Tagging buildings and even roughing people up in broad daylight.

They're way more aggressive than they ever were before.

Seems to be some agressive increase in the Sharks as well, but that might just be in response to everything else.

Also who tags in comic sans?!

Entertainer's Shack and Cave Condemned

Mayor B.H. Pirkle has had signs put up around town making it clear that the Entertainer's shack to the north of town has been condemned along with the cave behind it. The whole thing has been sealed up tight, despite the fact that two entertainers from out of town were staying there and apparently have been left with nowhere to stay. No reason for this was given, but threats of severe repercussions were given should anyone attempt to break in without permission.
...Oh damn, it's this bad already huh?

For those of you who don't know? Past that Shack lies the cave that leads to the Giants Step, the first "Your Sanctuary" location, as well as Titanic Ant, the first Boss Fight. These are the places that we need to visit if we're going to defeat Giygas.

If I recall, this one? this place isn't actually locked in Earthbound proper. It's technically closed, but you can go in just fine. This seems to be something different, and concerningly so.

And as a reminder, Pirkle here is basically a puppet of the OPF, who based on the "You know why" comment, seem to have been subverted fully by Giygas.

Right, so, priorities.

We NEED our faction running asap, ideally yester-month. Each turn is a month and the action economy will eat us alive the longer we put off making our faction.

Montage covers at least 1 part of what we need. The hangout spot seems intended to be one of our ways for setting up early with multiple avenues of getting an in. I'd say that next turn we should do the study what we need for an organisation action, but if we want to speedrun it I suggest getting a job (Mugging isn't what I want to do, but as it says, we can't found a group with empty pockets) as well as any actions that might get us more hero units (going to school seems to be one option, and the library study could help as well, though I suspect it's potential Hero unit is behind the DC 90 Check)

As a side objective? Fight the Police! They seem to be Giygas' main subversion attempt in Onett, and until we beat the mind-control out of them, I doubt that we're getting into Giants Step or operating outside Onett. The Sharks are a thorn in our side at the moment, but long term they're a distraction - it's the OPF actually limiting most of our access to where we need to go at the moment.

We don't necessarily want to beat them too hard though, given they make entering EQ hard for the rest of the City.

Anyway, that's all my thoughts at the moment (aside from how the actual story part was genuinely really moving, will write something on that later), so:

[X] Plan: We're Going To Need a Montage (Montage!)

Well, that's me all caught up.
I may not know alot about Earthbound itself, but for the Big Three's games, (Sonic, Megaman, and Metroid,) I'm certainly well versed.
So, as my first Thing I'll do here, I'll go over my educated guesses on what each leader would want:

Wilycorp - Wily most likely wants to be perceived as more important to history than Light, and if his history is still the same, was possibly overshadowed by Light despite helping him with his robotics work.
Unfortunately, he fails to realise that his actions only make him more hated, and thus less likely to go down as anything more than 'that prick'.
While we don't have that much in-game characterisation for him, If he's similar to his Archie Comics counterpart, he'll likely be the most 'moral' of the three, as while there's not many lows he wouldn't stoop to, he understands that if he wants to be beloved, he'll need the people of the world intact to do so. But most moral doesn't mean morally good, or even decent, so he's still dangerous ground to tread near.

Robodyne - Dr Ivo Robotnik is, if you ask me, the most 'wildcard' of the three, as the sheer volume of places to pull from is astounding in it's own right, the mad doctor could want anything from the destruction of time to just being mildly annoying.
This, ultimately, means there's no true predicting what he could really be aiming for, only that it will probably involve a lot of his beloved machinery.
I doubt he really cares about the state of the rest of the world, so I doubt he'd put much effort in to keeping the people okay, but that also means we likely won't have to worry about mass destruction being his endgame, though it's likely still an option he'll choose if it looks like a good one.

Metpharm - Mother Brain, out of all these three, is the one that worries me the most, due to being, in her home series, the leader of an intergalactic pirate organisation, meaning her morals most likely are long since gone, if they ever existed at all.
I'm am, however, willing to bet that her only goals will be simply having her own side grow more and more powerful, no matter who she has to step over to get it.
Also, we can likely expect Metroids from her in the future, and for those who don't know, imagine a floating green blob with a viable brain and three big teeth on the underside, that can latch on to any organism and drain of its life in seconds, their only weakness being the cold, having an easy freezing temperature, followed by smashing them to bits. We really should get Pk Freeze at some point to stand a chance against those.
If there's anyone most willing to cut a deal with Giygas, it's her.

And that's the best I can contribute for now. Really enjoying this quest so far!
WilyCorps big thing is that they dont care for Collateral. They will overwork you, and if someone gets hurt by a Robot Master doing its job, well time to just suck it up. Otherwise thats pretty accurate. I do want to note, the Protomen music group was apparantly a core inspiration behind the setting.

Robodyne is, in part tmk, based off the Comics. I think mostly Archie, but he also might have some Sonic the Comic in him. Eitherway, he is a cruel, egotistical man who is fully willing to pollute the world to get his way.

Metpharm is a Pharmaceutical Company run by an evil aliens supercomputer. That kinda tells you all you need to know about how terrible they are.

I am not the most knowledgable on the setting, but I suppose I should also mention Kirby in 8Bit- Dystopia.

The Dreamlands are exactly what they sound like, and a lot of Kirby Villains are Eldritch Horrors that live there, but occasionally they do something that pisses off Kirby and the Cults IRL are suddenly deprived of their Diety as they get turbomurdered down to their soul.

The Sharks might be the lesser threat but probably one we'll be dealing with first. If we're just destroying them as a group to make room for our own, that'll be something we're doing anyways, if we're going for a takeover that means they'll be us, completing the attain an organization and remove a rival goals. So after some training and scouting, and maybe getting a few allies, they'll be first up on the docket anyways.

Dealing with the cave boss at some point would be a good idea too. Does it feel like something we can do ourselves or can it wait till we have a few guys to dogpile on it first?

Titanic Ant is fought before you get any other party members, but you do defeat Franky before you get to it, so I'd say that it's currently something that would need a group of people, but which if we get some good training and rolls in we might be able to fight on our own with minimal backup.

Also yeah, I guess my point was less 'don't fight the sharks' and more 'Sharks aren't something we should get too focused on if it means we don't deal with the Police'.

I'd actually be willing to start to fight the Sharks next turn depending on this turns rolls - we have a plus 15 to martial with our Bat, making it a roughly 2/3 chance of getting the minimal success and 4/10 chance of the second threshold, which isn't that bad this early on. And with this turns PSI action, we have a 19/20 chance of getting the 2nd threshold and a 3/10 chance of reaching the third. We've got pretty good odds of getting a significant improvement to our PSI abilities, which would make fighting threats significantly easier (which in turn would help get our name out there, possibly setting things up to make a name as someone who keeps the peace in Onett, which would likely help us form our faction)

So literally just Kirby with no changes whatsoever?
yes but we see it from the outside and not from Kirbo's pov
Well good to know we have a big good in this setting. Even if it's an illiterate one.

Kirby is less so a Big Good as much a very powerful entitiy in the Dreamlands.

He doesn't destroy those horrors for us, he destroys them because they hurt his friends, picked a fight with him, or he thought they stole his cake. No matter what, if he isn't provoked, he wont care.

The Protomen are the whole reason the setting exists. So I'd give their albums in the Protomen Saga (Act 1, Act 2, The Cover Up, and the bits we've seen of Act 3) are well worth the listen.

Actually, reading the Document for 8BD, It looks like a lot of the Heroes tend to be around, or up-and-coming. Sonic is apparently around, and there are radio broadcasts from a person claiming to be the supposedly deceased Dr. Light, wo is noted to be making his greatest creation to try to finally fix all this.

Good is still there. It's just starting from the bottom rungs, and will have to fight one hell of an uphill battle.

For an Eldritch God this is a remarkably good track record. Like, "Does not actively end up screwing over humanity and is also on a personal level kind of chill, even if they cannot really comprehend human morality" is practically a saint.

Resisting the urge to raise all stats is hard, once we have a real group behind us, and especially Hero Units to shore up our weak points, the fact that our stats our crap won't matter as much. I still want to raise most of them up to the double digits at least then specialize in Martial and PSI though.

We can get other people to handle making our tech and managing our money eventually.

[] Ask Buzz-Buzz to Teach You about PSI: If an alien is coming down to wipe out the human race for stealing the secrets to some power you didn't even know existed, you figure it's only fair that you learn as much as you can about whatever this 'PSI' power is. Buzz-Buzz says you possess the potential to use it, but hasn't elaborated on it. Maybe putting in some effort to speak to him more and train a little could give you a clearer picture of what you can do with it? [Uses PSI in place of Learning]. DC: 25/50/75
At least with Buzz-Buzz's help we can manage this DC pretty well. Autopasses the minimum tier, 93% of clearing the medium, and a better than a coin flip 68% of reaching the maximum tier. As always, hope for a crit, but getting started on this magical powers business is almost never a bad thing.

Better than that even.

remember that loyalty bonuses are a thing - Buzz Buzz gets a +3 (10% his PSI rounded down) to 'faction' rolls he's on.

so it's 96% chance to clear the medium, and about 71% to clear the max.

e're Going To Need a Montage (Montage!)
Cat, please note you can only vote for one plan. Make sure to edit your post with your actual vote before the voting closes on Wednesday.
Speaking of turns, how long do they last? Is it one turn a week? A day?
Each turn represents the efforts you, your allies, and your enemies take over the course of a single month in-game. This means that for every 12 turns a year will pass.

ALSO, it makes me super happy to see everyone talking about things. I always love to see people discussing the lore, theorizing, and the like.

Don't forget that Omakes are a thing. You can write little fanfic-esque snippets of things and get EXP (that you can spend to boost rolls). It doesn't even have to be related to what's going on.

It could be about what you think the robot masters in the outlands are doing, or Wily/Robotnik missing signs that something is amiss in the city, or little things like that.

Don't be afraid to flex your creative muscles a little bit and have some fun!

Sorry I promise it won't happen again.

Personally I'm thinking about doing a Jet Set Radio segment with Dr. K Professor K commenting on things happening in the world.

Might be more something for later, but BRC has put me in the mood for Naganuma music.
