Anderson Quest: Killing Vampires and Werewolves and Leprechauns (Hellsing/Bloodborne)

I don't think she can.

I mean, they created the Emissaries just to try and talk to her.

Why don't we just make her to be able to somehow broadcast emotions? That way, when Anderson asks her (This is, of course, if he doesn't go in with bayonets flying), he can feel her feeling about the matter. After all, she just wants to help, and it's not like the Church keeps her in the know about what goes on outside.

So far, quest-Anderson's line of thought seems to be:

Step 1: PREACH THE WORD
Step 2: If convert, yay! Proceed to step 4. If not, proceed to step 3.
Step 3: BAYONETS EVERYWHERE.
Step 4: Determine crimes, if sufficiently evil see step 3.
No need to fix it if it ain't broken, right?

And how exactly do you suggest we do that?

Nah, I don't mean in-story. Just write her as if she has always been able to do so, just not very widely known because when they attempt to communicate with her, The Church cares more about the knowledge they can glean from her, rather than her feelings.

So... you want to majorly alter one of the setting's key characters for no adequately explained reason?

Well, we kinda already uses Abridged!Anderson as a protagonist.

Also, what do you mean 'for no adequately explained reason'? I was trying to provide a way (I admit, it is a rather convoluted, but it's the only one I can make on the fly) so we do not have to kill one of the few non-hostile-unless-attacked characters in Bloodborne, and an arguably benign character, at that. Why wouldn't I want her to not be killed? It has always been my opinion that she is genuinely trying to help humanity in their attempt to 'ascend' (either because she's trying to create a new family due to being left behind by the other Great Ones, or because she's just trying to be helpful). However, due to their language being literally incomprehensible to human's ears, the knowledge gained from The Church's attempt at communication ends up incomplete and causes The Scourge of The Beast.

I mean, her role in Bloodborne is just a source of knowledge. A glorified tome, really. At least, that is what the evidence I've managed to find in-game points to. It's not exactly her fault if the people use the knowledge she's given to do bad things, now is it?

Of course, I might be a tad too invested in this. This is just a story, after all. So if you all just want to kill her, then, by all means. After all, it's kinda one of gamer's mindset that if a thing can be killed, then it should be killed.

Also, what do you mean 'for no adequately explained reason'?
'Because I want to' is not an adequately explained reason. Why would Ebrietas be able do do that? Why has it never demonstrated this power before? Why would it suddenly use it on Anderson? If it has demonstrated it before then why hasn't it changed canon massively that the Choir actally has a way to communicate with it?

If it's not in-story, then the method isn't available to us. What you're saying is nonsensical.

Because I only suggest it only broadcast feelings? Like emotion, and the like? The Church want knowledge and the information on how to ascend using the Old Blood and whatnot, and they can't exactly know how to do so just by feeling Ebrietas's emotions, so of course they'd still have to find other way to communicate, such as putting that slug inside their body.

Creating weapon from Lesser Amygdala's body is also not available in-story, yet we made it to be so. Does that mean that is also nonsensical?

Okay, ignore Salty's point, because it's not helping, but let me explain our position unambiguously, Galerians.

'We' don't write the story.

'Tricia' writes the story. Ask Tricia.

However, evidence suggests Tricia isn't going to write that, since the story Tricia has already written suggests communication may be impossible, so don't get your hopes up.

Well of course we don't. But we do happen to decide where the story is going through a vote or outright write-ins. I was just making a suggestion in case she decides to make what will happen when Anderson encounters Ebrietas a write-in, and hope that my suggestion will be able to put some ideas when someone tries to make one that will end up with a way to not kill Ebrietas like a murderhobo. Is that wrong of me?

Huh, I didn't know that. Probably because I joined up late. Incidentally, can you refer me to Tricia's post in which the statement is in? I just want to confirm.

During our conversation with the scientist, he speaks of multiple specialized implements the church uses to converse (very badly) with Ebreitas. The familiar slugs, and the Emissaries. Either of which Anderson is not going to use. The slugs won't work because you need Arcane (heathen) knowledge which Anderson will not learn, and the Emissaries are out of the question. We don't even know if the Emissaries worked. Probably didn't.

There is a reason I say 'suggests'. The huge difficulty in even badly conversing with Ebrietas hints that any attempted conversation without them is just going to be a whole lot of useless.

Does this church know the Make Contact gesture?

Update will come tomorrow. Yesterday was Halloween, which was a time for happiness and not sads, and I had a bit too much to drink tonight. There will be an omake soon to make up for the slipping schedule.

You're Gonna Carry That Weight
The adrenaline's completely gone. Your whole body is one big ache. You sit down and simply breathe for some time, great shuddering gulps that sting your throat on the way in and out.

"'s not fair," you mumble one more time. You rear back to punch the ground, but think better of it. Men of God don't throw tantrums when they don't get their way.

Eileen gingerly places a hand on your shoulder, snapping you out of your funk. You look up to see that she's got her mask off once again, every line on her kindly face stretched in concern.

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah," you say, working your way slowly back to your feet. "I'm alright. Was just hopin' there'd be someone left for me ta punish."

"It wouldn't have made you feel any better."

"Maybe for a little while, at least," you offer with a weak grin.

You stand there together, alone in the silence.

"I'm gonna bury 'em," you say. "They didn't deserve any o' this."

She nods. "I'll scout ahead. Would you like some help digging?"

"Nah; need some time ta clear my head anyway."

She turns on her heel and replaces her mask, strolling towards the doorway in the rear. You leap back into the Orphanage and survey the damage. The bodies are quickly losing their luster as oil and blood pools beneath them. The stems that once held the bulbs wither and brown before your eyes.

As you behold the dimming of the Orphanage's twisted beauty, you bring your hands together and pray. The simplest prayer, one that you've led so many children through in the past.

"Our Father who art in Heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil. Amen."

You crack your neck and breathe one more "fuck" for the road before getting to work.

The dirt is soft, yielding easily to your fingers and your massive blade, serving as a makeshift trowel. You could, of course, have simply made some craters with your club and explosive bayonets, but some things are worth taking time for. You carefully drag the nearest body into its final resting place and reverently cover it in a layer of earth. Head bowed, you pray for them.

"LORD, please guard this soul, that was so cruelly used for unholy works. Let them be shepherded inta safety and love, that they may never know anymore pain."

You'll come back someday with real headstones. A bayonet will have to do for now. You move to the next one, carve out a berth, and bow your head. "LORD, please guard this soul..."

You fight the part of your mind that wants to slip away and let the routine take over. They all deserve your attention. Time slips away instead, and after however long, you wipe your forehead with grime-encrusted gloves. Haphazard furrows capped by bayonets line the room wall-to-wall beneath drying ichor. You're not terribly good at this, you admit to yourself for the hundredth time.

You've buried children before. It never gets easier.

You turn to see Eileen standing in the windowsill. You don't know how long she's been standing there.

"There's an elevator through that doorway. It's down there," she says without a trace of impatience. "I got out before it saw me, but it's down there."

You walk over to her on numb legs. Before she can speak again, you scoop her up and hug her as tightly as you can without breaking her. You squeeze your eyes shut and hold fast to the moment.

She rests her head on your shoulder and gently holds the back of your head until your breathing stabilizes again.

"Are you alright?" she whispers.

"Aye, I think so."

You let go and she takes a step back before putting on a rueful smile.

"What is it with you holy men trying to crush me tonight?"

"Can't exactly use Djura, can we? The man'd snap like a twig."

The two of you turn to face your destination. There's nothing left between you and Ebrietas but a short trip down.

Nowhere to go but forward.

[] Attack right away. There's no point in talking anymore.
