Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 6: Fatal Fires Flagrantly Fry Frantic Friends, Family

Alratan said:
No. No I wasn't. I was suggesting that they were acceptable sacrifices. That means that if they die in the course of the battle to Noelle rather than Behometh, that's acceptable if we defeat the Endbringer.

After all, something like a low yield nuclear weapon should be able to destroy her. Almost nothing can destroy an Endbringer. She's a much smaller threat.

What makes you think that Behometh is ever going to 'call it a day' unless we destroy it? Why wouldn't he continue attacking until we're destroyed?
I'm not seeing a way to "win" (drive off Behemoth) outside of Scion showing up.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Everyone voting for the Approach Noelle stunt or any variations of it, PLEASE DROP IT FROM YOUR VOTE.

-[X] Stunt: Our shot was the only thing that truly hurt Behemoth, and it seems unrelated to the nature of our weapon. Aim at his heart, and shoot as frequently as possible. While also disseminating the knowledge about Behemoth's apparent weak spot to the entire army via our swarm. Try to get him pinned again and focus a volley of fire there to either dig a hole into it or exploit other capes who might penetrate his defenses (like Flechette, perhaps.)
-[X] Stunt: Send Strider back to the medical tent to check for survivors, while warning the capes in the field to stay well back from the new combatant.

Note that Sundancer killed her with pieces of the Sun, I don't think we should underestimate her durability/regeneration. Especially with evil Panacea clones running around.
That's why I suggested using nuclear weapons, actually. They're fast enough that it should kill any Panacea clones as well as her in the thermal flash.

Unless you had a few capes volunteer to do a suicide run, the nuke would either not get a "direct hit" as the allied capes scatter and Noelle gives chase or you hold the line and have the entire allied cape army die in nuclear fire.

uju32 said:
She just produced Panacea clones.
That's an S-class threat right there; even if she goes down, we could still end up with a Blacklight type incident or worse.
And word of God indicates that she's going to swallow even more capes.
That's a pressing threat.
It would be, save that Behometh is chasing down the Iris of Innovation. It's a very, very secondary issue.
uju32 said:
The same reason every bloody Endbringer goes home.
The same reason all three didn't show up.
The same reason he's not using ALL his abilities.
The same reason he's not hunting us exclusively.
We already have evidence that it's broken the normal pattern. None of those previosu assumptions can be relied upon.

Precognitive aiming removes that issue. The likes of Contessa could flawlessly ensure a direct hit.

What?.

No, they didnt, they used Scrub and Labrynth to banish her into another dimension.

Scrub doesnt exist yet.

Edit:

Being 'heroic' in no way stopped her from killing and nomming forty people.
You sure about that?

The sun flew forward, melting pavement as it traveled, before it enveloped Echidna, Alexandria and the prison of ice and stone.

It hung there for nearly a minute, deafening with its sizzling and crackling.

The sun flickered and went out. Echidna wasn't there any more. Only sections of her feet were still in contact with the ground, bones and claws scorched black, crumbling and decaying like any part of her did when disconnected from the core that supplied her with power.

How do you guys think our odds would be if we took advantage of Noelle's distracting Behemoth to punch in through her back and rescue some of her hostages mid-fight? This day has really sucked for Panacea, and if she gets digested during the fight that would seriously suck.

HyperspatialParasite said:
However, intentionally feeding Echidna is dumb regardless. Trying to retrieve what she already has might be premature, but giving her more makes it into trading one apocalyptic enemy with another.
No one is proposing that. uju just came up with it. What I said is that if more heroes are eaten by Noelle in the fight, then they would be an acceptable sacrifice if it meant defeating Behometh.

It shouldn't be too hard to drop Echidna on her own. We can locate the core with our Optical Enhancements, considering we were able to locate Behemoth's, and then use our swarm to draw out a three-dimensional map for Legend, complete with marks for the swallowed capes. The issues only pop up once you bring in clones, especially as she's attacking the defensive line and thus likely to grab a forcefield cape or two.

In character, Taylor doesn't actually know anything about Noelle yet to definitively label her a foe.

On the other hand, the fact that she's carrying Panacea and several other capes is cause enough for caution. Changing my vote.

-[X] Stunt: You quickly realise the how twisted the clones are as well as the tactical implications. Anyone below top tier capes should fall back to avoid getting eaten, they didn't do any significant damage after all. Only top tier movers capable of running interference, flyers/blasters, top tier brutes, long distance blasters (you did notice a certain Flechette) and such remain useful against the Endbringer. Especially with Echidna providing canon fodder.

-[X] Stunt: Realizing that our shot was the only thing today that actually hurt Behemoth, we aim directly at his heart. Driven by our lightning-fast trigger finger and exalted might, the weapon in our hands seemingly overcomes all mortals limits, and blasts Behemoth with lance after lance of coherent light - until it finally overheats and dies. When we check the rifle's status, we find that parts of it are actually deforming from the heat - somehow the weapon's inbuilt safety power limiters seem to have gotten deactivated, leading to a brief, final, and devastating blaze of glory.

Retreating is probably safest for the troops that we command, but will probably kill most of those that Noelle has eaten. In it we basically let the two monsters kill each other. Behemoth will remain the primary threat, perhaps combined with lingering insane clones. Attacking presses the advantage against Behemoth. It may work the best to drive him off, but then we have to worry about Noelle. She will probably be able to absorb more parahumans if we attack, and we will be more scattered and unable to deal with her. Hold the line falls somewhere in the middle of these two. It could be the best of both, the worst of both, or somewhere in the middle.

If you have another vote elsewhere, please remove the X from the box here (or copy your entire vote into this post). The vote tally only reads your latest post with a suitable vote, and I think this stunt counts.

EDIT: Imp'd

I say we wait until Behemoth is handled to take our allies out of Noelle, unless it looks like she's about to get pasted and we'll lose them if we don't step in. As much as it sucks for her hostages we can't afford antagonizing her while we're still juggling Behemoth, and she's durable enough that it's unlikely she'll die quickly.

It was mentioned the capes already in Echidna are in stasis, right? Have the dying capes teleported to Echidna as an ad-hoc way of staving their death until we figure out a way to pull them out again?

Basically, it is a choice between the cape definitely dying and having said cape put to use via Echidna while in suspended animation until a way to extract them can be figured out and medical attention can be rendered. Wonder if Clarity!Taylor would do it.
