Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 6: Fatal Fires Flagrantly Fry Frantic Friends, Family

[X] "Hold the Line!"
-[X] Stunt: Our shot was the only thing that truly hurt Behemoth, and it seems unrelated to the nature of our weapon. Aim at his heart, and shoot as frequently as possible. While also disseminating the knowledge about Behemoth's apparent weak spot to the entire army via our swarm. Try to get him pinned again and focus a volley of fire there to either dig a hole into it or exploit other capes who might penetrate his defenses (like Foil, perhaps.)
-[X] Stunt: Attempt communication with the new monster through use of your swarms. Ask her to attempt to occupy Behemoth for those firing, and ask what she needs to produce clones, if it's just DNA see if you can help her make ones more suited for fighting Behemoth than her current selection without absorbing them and releasing the ones she has now.
Let the clones take the brunt of the punishment, keep pressing Behemoth! We don't need to lose more people when Echidna is giving us unlimited manpower to pin him down.

Mostly stuff we're using heavily and could use more of.

At first, the list of people that Noelle had absorbed made me a little happy, because it meant that Tattletale wasn't dead. Then I realized that she hit the medical area.
Helpfully, your scan points out that several of the humans inside match previously-recorded scans: Scapegoat, Penitent, Jotun, Estucheon, Parian, Tattletale, and Panacea. Several of the other bodies within register as distinctly similar, but each seem to be warped physically and mentally from the... original?
Welp, there goes the planet...

OK, Myrddin, I'll bite: what the fuck?

I kinda want to tell him "The Eye of Autochthon is busy in Winslow High" just to see what his response would be.

Essence Ping, hell yes.

Will work through for rolls.

Looks like Tattletale's either dead or broken too.

I wonder if Coil's save-scumming this to remove anyone who could help us.

Also, Essence Ping to the Endbringer Core, yay for actually hurting him!

"Humility too? A Temperate soul as well, it seems. Would that our Age had more crafted in your likeness, we could perhaps unearth the means to cast these primordial foes into the Oblivion from which they came."

What.

How do you know these words Wizard!? Do you know their significance!? Do your powers stretch even beyond Nowhere!?
You forgot to highlight "primordial".

Really, really want to tell him we have the Eye of Autochthon. And that Behemoth is aiming for it.

Although, who knows, maybe he has a Thinker power that lets him spout bullshit that's meaningful to whoever's listening! ... oh wait, we're not in the Thinker-safe form.

*further boggling about easy mode*

This really is It Got Worse: The Quest, isn't it? Not that I'm complaining... much
Well, none of the BB Wards or Protectorate have died yet...

Easy may also at least partially refer to the course of coming events.

Part of it may also be that we are immune to Behemoth's kill aura and radiation. We aren't immune to Leviathan hitting the city with a tidal wave from 10km away or to the Simurgh dropping an asteroid on us.

I suspect that the Leviathan route was the shortest because it eliminated the issue of Brockton Bay entirely...

Not quite sure where people ever got the idea that "Scenic Route" equaled "Easy Mode", or even "Easy Mode Endbringer Fight", to be honest.

The only "Easy Mode" Endbringer battle I've seen done well was in Hope Through Overwhelming Firepower, and even then there were casualties in the thousands.

Deep black ichor pours from jagged wounds all over the beast's body, a constant flow of vile-looking blood that Lung's flames turn into a toxic steam that corrodes anything it touches – including the unlucky Collector, who is soon whisked off by Strider to the medical team.
Ouch. I'm assuming I'm either dead, or have been absorbed by Noelle and wishing I'm dead. I hope Tattletale survives this, as she has some explaining to do.

One person says something, others repeat that thing, and the echo chamber means that it gets propagated outward even though it's wrong.

The same thing happens with lots of votes, as we have seen. Quests with tons of participants get really unwieldy due to people reading only parts of the discussion and so the simpler the vote decision the better.

Wow. This quest has now officially reached the same level of brutalness that the canon had.

Also, how long do you guys think that the Iris has till it gets its work done, whatever that work is?

She's angry at Behemoth. She might not attack the heroes except to clone them. And she has access to Panacea, so she might even be able to fix herself after.

Gandalf Myrdrin knows more than expected. Whether he knows it consciously or subconsciously remains to be seen.

Anyway... We've finally hurt Behemoth. We can beat him back. The question is, can we prevent an Echidna disaster afterwards?
(On the plus side, this is months before the canon Echidna arc, so Noelle should be smaller and weaker than she was at that point...)

-[X] Stunt: Use our swarms and fellow Thinkers to try to coordinate with the newcomer. Hopefully it is truly on our side, or can be brought to it.

It even said that things would be rough. It may sound easier than the other two, but that does not mean it will be easy. It only said that the escalation would be slower. It could conceivably be the hardest route, in the end.

I really don't see why people are surprised to see named characters dropping like flies. That is to be expected in an Endbringer battle, especially one like this, where they are not holding back overmuch. Any Endbringer attack is a horrible catastrophe. None of the choices were "good".

Of course, the real thing to realize about this battle is that Behemoth has spent four scenes working to give us the intimacy of The Endbringers (Creeping Paranoia)... But why?...

Why? WHY? We are beginning to realise that the Endbringers are Constructs. Which means someone made them. Someone/thing is directing them. That up until today they have not been fighting seriously. This is Behemoth fighting seriously. It took the canon fight in India HOURS to reach this level of destruction and death amongst the capes. He has achieved it in far far shorter period here. Thats with capes like Lung who can go into melee with him continually.
The Creeping Paranoia is (IMHO) the truth behind them. That they are being directed. The Hero Killer was sent after Taylor because she fucks with pre-cogs. This means in theory, she has a way to prevent the slow and dreadful decline and death of Humanity. Or, they have forseen the arrival of Auto-kun and are working to prevent it.

In any case, Lung Vs Echidna Vs Behemoth, right next door to Taylor's house. There will be no more medical support for the Hero's as all the local healers are now nommed by Noelle. This means many many more will die that could have been saved, if only thanks to the incredibly potent abilities of Othalla and Panacea. On the other hand, there are now TWO people present (assuming Flechette hasn't died) who have a chance for a Golden BB shot at Behemoth.

Honestly we seem to be doing really well. 131 capes teleported after Behemoth. We started with ~150 or so, didn't we? We undoubtedly lost several since then, but it still seems pretty good for a Behemoth fight.

EDIT:

It didn't take hours in New Delhi: the video of the Behemoth fight was about an hour long. It's possible some of that was cut out from when Taylor was below ground, admittedly, but it still wouldn't be that much of an increase.

Preeetty sure you mentioned it's the least brutal of the three options we had. Not easy by any means just less hard. Can't be buggered to try and dig out a quote though.
Behemoth himself is beginning to finally show significant wounds, Lung's gashes and Legend's endless barrages finally appearing to do more damage than the Endbringer can overcome with his dynakinetic defenses, impossibly-thick hid, and rapid regeneration. Deep black ichor pours from jagged wounds all over the beast's body, a constant flow of vile-looking blood that Lung's flames turn into a toxic steam that corrodes anything it touches – including the unlucky Collector, who is soon whisked off by Strider to the medical team.

Right. So, that wasnt the best, but there were up sides. We learned that we can hurt him with ping, which is a huge plus. We have the war- parahumans specialty, which we should definitely take. We learned some stuff about endbringers, which, while bad news, is still something we didnt know before. And, most importantly, I didnt notice myself in the casualties list, so Im still alive.

Especially considering the limit on how much of a bonus various specialties can have on a single roll.

Lore(endbringers) in particular seems far to specialized a speciality. Perhaps a Lore(s-class threats)? Since there are about 5 of them involved in this fight by my last count(Lung, Behemoth, Panacea, Noelle, Iris&Weaver combo)

is probably the most useful thing that we can buy right now. For more useful than Lore, anyway.
