Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 5: Eye Eyes Eyes Eyeing Eye Eyeing Eyes

Trade it out for Distributed Computer System v5.54d (assuming we need to treat it as an actual module that takes up space) because the bonus only applies when we're fighting 1v1 or Xv1 where X is everybody with the DCS. This is a dueling mod, not a day-to-day patrolling while worried about getting ambushed mod. Situationally powerful, but not good when our main concern is getting ganked.
No need to trade out. The ballistic undersuit is a separate component, and doesn't take up any module slots for the armor itself. We can keep the DCS and still have an incredibly tanky build.

Sadly, no. It does take up a slot if we want to get the bonus vs solid projectiles.
Gromweld said:
Effectively, if you don't have the 'module' then it's just a spidersilk lining that is assumed to already be part of the armor bonus of the suit. If you call it out with a module, then it's a separate inner-suit specifically for this armor - providing additional bonuses - and can also function outside it (with overall reduced stats).

I think there's mostly no need for that, since we could make a separate spidersilk suit pretty much trivially at this point for out of armor use.

Just look at what we did with the dress.

Uh, no. The point is to integrate it into our armor so that we can push its Armor value up even higher. If our armor is only 11 (7base+1ex+3ns) when faced with snipers with AP ammo (-4 armor) then when they hit us they're at 2 raw damage without factoring in threshold successes. Meaning Coil has a window of opportunity to save scrum 'til we die.

Coil is precog, and his power is (currently) unreliable in predicting outcomes against us. He can't save-scum, it's still down to whether or not the attack he actually tries succeeds. He can certainly work out as many circumstances as possible that increase the likelihood of us dying, though.

Also, here's the stuff in the core book on Exceptional armour:
Exceptional weapons gain three +1s to divide among any of the characteristics that fine weapons can improve. They can also raise Rate, but the same characteristic cannot be raised more than once. Exceptional armor gains two +1 bonuses to divide among: soak (adds 1L/1B), mobility (reduces mobility penalty by one) or fatigue (reduces fatigue value by one). Exceptional tools and gear add one die to dice pools when used. Items of exceptional equipment cost their normal value plus one more dot of Resources.
This, to me, means that the "cannot raise one characteristic more than once" only applies to weaponry. Grom: can we apply both bonuses to one characteristic for our armour?

Might want to run the numbers on our current dodge DV and what it'll be at with various mobility penalties. Hm.

He has difficulty predicting our actions, but if he catches in bad situations he can hurt or kill us. A single sniper+spotter team at our Wards ceremony did 4 health levels in damage against us - think about how bad things would have been if there had been three or more of them.

Irrelevant. Raising stats via exceptional quality =/= situational bonuses against particular things such as a +3 vs bullets. Check Shards.

Or they'd used anti-tank weapons.

That wasn't directed at you specifically, more a generic thing to people who are going "we must maximize our armour" yet putting one dot of the Exceptional bonus into the mobility penalty. Wanted to make sure they weren't confused as to our options.

I don't know man. I think we'd be giving up a big tactical advantage by removing the DCS. I'm of the opinion that both the Armor Materials Upgrade and the HES are good enough to withstand almost anything Coil can throw at us. Besides, I think there's a limit to how much action he can take at this point without drawing more fire from the PRT and Protectorate.

Remember that if he takes us out, he just wins, unless the Simurgh decides to take him out.

But that's what I'm saying. I think the Armor Upgrade + HES is good enough for the job. Taylor is still a thinking specialist though, and the DCS would significantly aid that aspect of her. I really don't think we should throw it away.

Alratan said:

Agreed, the next attempt won't be using something like a sniper rifle. They'd either be using Blasters, Brutes or anti-vehicle weapons next. Racing soak increases against their available damage would be difficult. Racing DV increases against their available accuracy increases would be much harder for them to overcome.

Like I said earlier, the DCS is a dueling mod. It doesn't help us at all in dealing with the things he'll throw at us because in all likelihood he'll quickly figure out that he can nerf our capabilities just by forcing us to deal with more than one person at a time.

With our level of War we're actually better at mob combat than duel combat though. But the DCS's main role is not combat, it's the information processing capabilities.

Yes it's a utility non-combat program that also allows us to link up with other users to coordinate our attacks and furthermore will only help us once we've manage to (1) locate his base and (2) successfully infiltrate it. That is, I think, a ways down the road.

Look, if you want to make a persuasive argument as to what can or can't kill us, or what we do or don't need, give me some numbers to back up your assertions.

Blech. This is why I don't normally do fanart.

Took liberties with the iconic anima otherwise it's black on black on black. Did this before the eye got out of our cleavage and couldn't get a description of it to use as reference so you get a triangle eye. Tried to keep thing stylized and abstract because I suck at art.
