Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 12: Luminous Loom Lavishes Luxurious Largess

Huh.
That's good to know.
It opens up the possibility of some of the Wards being eligible for conversion down the line, should we save them slots.
Does depend on quite a few factors though.
We should already have our Assembly complete (or as full as we can get it, should Problems occur) before we hit the biggest time-skip.

Just go for Orichalcum and Starmetal next then. No Ward candidates in those slots.

Pity.
That means my hopes for Vista as a Jade and Who as a Moonsilver are doomed.
Drats.

GM implies the Wards will still be kids at that time we fill up the Assembly.
Which sucks:(
Then we'd need enough influence to change their legal position.

uju32 said:
The COST is too much, as well as the unintended effects.
You are suggesting changing legal precedent regarding minors for the United States so as to grab two recruits.
Disproportionate does not begin to describe it, and ill-advised probably describes it as well.
Quite possible with some forms of backing and the right social charms. That means our Starmetal's going to be busy

uju32 said:
Dude, NO.
The second order implications are likely to bite us in the butt BIG time.
Not entirely, organisational social charms like alchemicals specialize in are exactly the fix. Especially if the transition is rapid on organization level, but relatively gradual otherwise.

EDIT: Or yeah we can just find and sway their guardians, which would make it completely legal. Much easier too.

Zechstein said:
I think uju32 is more concerned about the social and moral repercussions than legal matters. Even if their guardians agree and we manage to do this legally, the fact remains that we would be recruiting twelve year old girls to fight the Endbringers. Being known for employing child soldiers isn't the public image we want.
However, said twelve year old had already fought Endbringers. This is not a new development. It's history. Exaltation doesn't change her workload, but it does make things much safer for her.

The two PRT and Me stunts are both include Exaltation, what is the logic for having both?
It's not ideal, true. One's for "Exaltation", one's for "Exaltation and Camden"; it would be better if they were separated. But I figure it's too late in the game for a new Stunt there. And I wanted to keep the one that was just Exaltation, since it mentioned bringing Chevalier, Dragon, Legend and Glenn to the table.

Could someone get back to me on why we keep referring to the Undersiders as a whole in our Stunting? We seem to just want Grue and Tattletale, so why not break up the group?
We also want Parian (doesn't have a criminal case, could be useful) and Panacea (beloved hero, extremely useful powers, very dangerous if goes nuts).

Noting that we've been warned that Panacea is in a very delicate mental state we should not poke because we'd be doing more harm than good.

False, they are suspected of very serious crimes, but everything major they could claim to have done under duress, and on their own initiative they're wanted for cheating casinos and robberies. They hadn't even reached the second strike(Regent and Bitch have the first) of the three strikes law, which means they usually get put into regular prison for a short time, if duress/temporary insanity can't be claimed as a defense.

They're notable for keeping a low profile except on Coil's missions.
They were intimately involves in the attempt to murder us, given how obviously coordinated them breaking Danny out was with the hit on us. They don't get a bye because they claim they were working for Coil, about who there is pretty much no evidence that he wasn't just a figment of Tattletale's imagination at this point.
veekie said:
More importantly, Uriel prefers to keep villains who aren't actively causing trouble to him around, to maintain the power balance. The city is easier to manage with a lot of small groups of villains doing low impact crimes and keeping each other down, and that's explicitly his strategy. So if the Undersiders look like they're going Rogue, he's be eager to exploit the opportunity and steal the credit for it.
Does our attempted assassination at our own introduction sound like not actively causing trouble?

I think you're seriously white washing them, based on OOC knowledge neither we nor the PRT has access to.

This.
Taylor was 15, almost 16, and looks like an adult.
Vista most definitely does not. Much less Who.
Defended herself and her city from a surprise Endbringer attack =/= Was recruited into a transhumanist military organization complete with full body transplant.
There's a very good reason why even the weapons that Wards carry are shorn of as much of their military flavor as possible.
That's where positive spin comes in. Especially if they're the last two recruits.

Of course, depending on how the rolls go they might get a battlefield exaltation anyway.

DragonBard said:
Unless I'm miscounting, that's only 14 or 15 Alchemical charms.
You aren't, the remainder are Martial Arts charms. Though that's not my primary build, it's just a testbed for Solar Heroing(which was figured out as not being really efficient way to do it) which is this:

Fixed Array: 8 * 3/4 = 6m, 5 charms
-Repurposed Shard of Excised Imperfections x2, 5m
-4th Stamina Augmentation x2, 2m
-Integrated Artifact Transmogrifier 1m

The mandatory installations, since they neatly fit into 8 motes used, might as well bind them into an array to save 2 motes.

Combat Array: 8 * 3/4 = 6m, 11 charms
-First Dexterity Augmentation 1m
-Fourth Strength Augmentation 1m
-Piston Driven Megaton Hammer 1m
--Optimized Demolition Vibration
-Essence Irradiation Corona
--Optimized Trauma Upgrade
--Field Stabilization Fins
-Transitory Invulnerability Engine 1m
-Industrial Survival Frame 1m
--Crystal
--Lightning
--Metal
--Oil
--Smoke
--Steam
--Sixfold Transcendence Synergy
-Light-Etched Interceptor Barrier
--Emergency Overcharger
--Essence Absorption Screen
-Alloyed Reinforcement of Flesh
--Tireless Pneumatic Musculature
--Death Defeating Processors
-Body-Reweaving Matrix 1m
--Beneficence Programming
--Pattern Restoration System
-Plasma Thruster Assembly 1m
--Travel Efficiency Upgrade
--Cooperative Vector System
--Momentum Conservation Impact Buffer
-Aegis Integration System 1m
--Attunement Resonator Pins
--Artifact Perfection Node

No Array: 3 motes 4 charms
Limb Extension Armatures
Fourth Charisma Augmentation 1m
Patriotism Provoking Display 1m
-Many Is One Node
-One is Many Node
Pattern Facilitation Module 1m

Total: 15 motes commited, 20 charms installed.

First Dexterity Augmentation for buying accuracy.

Fourth Strength Augmentation because of mote efficiency, Essence Irradiation Corona buys damage more efficiently than the First Strength, so might as well get the base dice up.

Piston Driven Megaton Hammer can go an incredibly long way for damage against low DV opponents like Crawler and most Endbringers. Additionally the submodule adds directly to Fighting Gauntlet, Boots, or just the built in armor spikes which get the Adamant bonus to basically shred everything.

Essence Irradiation Corona adds quite a lot of damage for low cost. One automatic post soak damage level, one dice of post soak damage AND 3 raw damage for 2 motes(effectively 6 dice of damage for 2m, compared to Strength Augmentation's 1 dice for 1 m).

Transitory Invulnerability Engine would be the obligatory perfect defense. Mainly used for Siberian and Endbringers. Not many other things do enough damage to require this expensive thing. Probably Compassion, Conviction or Temperance Flaw.

Industrial Survival Frame needs no explanation, we know and love it.

Light-Etched Interceptor Barrier comes with a hefty DV bonus, an on demand, flawless, moteless perfect parry which can be activated AFTER the parry fails. The Essence Absorption Screen is vital for regenerating Essence in combat, allies can use low power energy weapons to top off her energy throughout the battle, especially when her soak is high enough to negate all damage.

Alloyed Reinforcement of Flesh is another moteless pseudoperfect. Marrow simply can't die unless at least three hits connect, even if they do infinite damage. Handy isn't it? As a bonus, it removes fatigue as a problem, which is good when fighting some extended battles.

Body-Reweaving Matrix grants regeneration, which is pretty monstrous with a soakbeast like she is. Additionally it makes her quite capable as an emergency healer, with granting slow regeneration, and generally keeping people from dying if she can reach them before they die.

Plasma Thruster Assembly normally wouldn't make the list, but with it's prereqs already met, flight, especially flight that can't be disrupted by EMP or other external sources. That, and Marrow's armor makes fitting power armor to her difficult, which reduces the value of a jetpack. That it also makes for kickass melee attacks helps.

Aegis Integration System eliminates the penalties for armor. Pretty important given that she's best served by layering the maximum amount of armor all the time, and would probably prefer not to be immobilized by it.

Limb Extension Armatures longer ranged melee attacks means more things that enjoy a Piston Driven Megaton Hammer.

Fourth Charisma Augmentation buys up her Charisma and qualifies her for more social charms/charm submodules.

Patriotism Provoking Display makes recruiting assistance MUCH more potent. As Master-type effects go it's relatively subtle as well, as it just makes her words sink in deeper, and makes them harder to shrug off. Good for rousing speeches.

Pattern Facilitation Module meanwhile, works on an organization level, which we can use to encourage for instance, the PRT to make it an organizational goal to support Alchemicals, fight Endbringers, end Case 53 discrimination etc. It's also VERY valuable for making more candidates legal to Exalt.

Some questions may be raised by the lack of surprise negation, but a soak based build doesn't really need it much(as she can passively survive anything with Alloyed Reinforcement of Flesh, worst comes to worst, regenerating all the damage in a minute with Body Reweaving Matrix), and it dramatically raises the costs and charm slots(2 charms, 2 commited motes from a non-primary stat, especially an Augmentation she won't use much). Play to her strengths, not against them.

Abilities:
Martial Arts 5(Bone Combat +3)
Performance 5(Philosophical Musings +3)
Archery 4(Bone Darts +3)
Presence 4(Profound Encouragement +2)
Awareness 4(Environmental Awareness +2)
Integrity 3(Meaningful Silence +1)
Resistance 3(Enduring Pain +2)
Athletics 3

Bureaucracy 2(PRT +1)
War 2(Parahuman Combat +1)
Lore 2(Philosophy +1)
Medicine 2

If we help Parian get setup in a new business as a Rogue fashionista, why would she and Panacea stay hanging around with a bunch of villains? And if we pull Grue into neutrality too with an offer of steady legit work, what's left to keep the remaining 3 Undersiders from going their own ways? I just don't see any real reason to keep Bitch and Regent around, so why bother?
Because it nets us two extra parahumans on our side and the PRT needs everyone they can get?

Toroidal Shockwave Catalyst if you want something offensive that has interesting implications given how her shard works.
Aegis Integration System (now that we know how her shard's being represented) would remove any concerns about mobility penalty. This basically renders Marrow into a frighteningly agile fortress of bone.

OK, time to pick some nits:

- Having the Piercing tag on top of 8L and 12L ranged attacks seems a little much. Then again...
- The Condensed Armors ability to function as a Grand Goremaul plus [Stamina]*2B/1 per layer of CA means that Marrow is going to have a base raw damage of...16B+2*7+5=35B/10  Combine that with Plasma Thruster Assembly and you get HOLY SHITBALLS 70B

That's all I've got for now, because 70B/10, while not Solar levels of damage, is still rather impressive.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have ourselves a lightning bruiser if her exaltation goes well.

And if she goes Adamant she'll be an almost broken at hit-and-run tactics than anything we could manage with Taylor herself.

A fast as balls melee beast with decent ranged attacks that you forget about as soon as she successfully disengages? This could be exactly what we need against the S9.

On the other hand, if her build doesn't incorporate Loom Server Migration the Precog synergy that keeps the Philly PRT branch running smoothly is completely screwed.

Parian going back to work as a fashion designer.
Grue might flip for his sister's sake, he went into crime for her sake to begin with.
Tattletale went into supervillaining under duress from Coil(he gave her the good old offer you can't refuse when she ran away from home). She has a job in exploiting the shit out of her sales ability.

Bitch is purely interested in dog welfare, and has no interest in crime for it's own sake. She'd do whatever as long as she can be with her dogs and people would stop bothering her.

Regent is entirely unmotivated by anything except staying the hell away from his father.

Obviously Coil was real or else the Undersiders wouldn't be doing small jobs if they had the kind of cash to hire elite mercenaries with tinkertech munitions to kill us while simultaneously breaking out and brainwashing our father also they weren't involved in the assassination just in abducting Danny. The PRT need every Hero and Rogue they can get against Villains, I really don't think Uriel will turn them down.

IAT is a mandatory install for her build according to Gromweld, along with two instances of 4th Stamina augment(taking her to Stamina 7).

IC Taylor currently suspects that Tattletale may have been Coil all along, according to Gromweld. This is something that's very hard to disprove when you're dealing with someone who may be superhumanly convincing enough to believe her own lies. With a Thinker/potential Master leading them, all sorts of odd attacks could make sense, and she could have easily put someone up to attacking us.

The assassination was clearly a joint operation with taking Danny, and he later appeared and tried to assassinate us later.
veekie said:
That's where Int + Investigation comes in to sort out the Thinker clusterfuck.
All the evidence was destroyed with Brokcton Bay, and we're dealing with a powerful Thinker/Master. We aren't superhumanly smart enough to be confident of beating a Thinker with unknown powers.

Everyone knows that Worm is about communication. It's about getting people to work together, not about the weapons they use to fight their enemies. With that in mind, here is a build that addresses the urgent problems we are facing.

Eternal Crystalline Beauty
Adamant Caste Alchemical
Motivation: Unite Earth in the worship of Autochthon in preparation for his coming
Concept: Bridge Bunny Evangelist

1 - 2x 4th Stamina
1 - 2x 4th Appearance
1 - 2x 4th Charisma
1 - 1st Charisma
She is inhumanly beautiful, charismatic, and indefatigable.

1 - 3rd Appearance Augmentation
This would be Hilarious at Essence 5. Because an 11+ external penalty on social attacks is in no way overpowered.

1 - Thousandfold Courtesan Calculations
Her grace overwhelms all who encounter her.

0 - Radiant Iconography Array
1 - Emotive Aesthetics of the Body Electric
She is always backlit by appropriate effects and her very movements and stance convey her words.

1 - Pattern Facilitation Module
She can rework any organization to make it vastly more efficient.

1 - Patriotism-Provoking Display
1 - Perfected Union Patterning
She can convince groups to treat each other equally and to help her achieve her goals.

1 - Motivational Vocoder
She can convince others to permanently take up her cause(motivation) and help her.

1 - Integrated Artifact Transmogrifier
She can look like a normal human beautiful goddess.

5 - 2x RSoEI
I want to swap this useless thing and the Stamina augs out sooo bad...

1 - Semiotic Flare Projector
1 - Tunnel-Fighting Tactical Omnibus Implant
1 - Clockwork Soldier Pattern Projector
I really wanted to put some war charms in here for the concept but they don't really fit that well with the required charms. Stupid useless mandatory charms. Instead:

0 - Hierarchical Dogma Lock
She works tirelessly to ready the world for Auto-kun

1 - 2x Auxiliary Essence Storage Unit
She is going to blow motes like crazy. If she isn't glowing or sleeping, something is wrong.

Some abilities:
Performance 5 (Dramatic Speeches +3)
She watched every appropriate Hollywood movie during her construction. This makes her objectively superior at speechifying. Auto-kun knows these things.

Presence 5 (Seduction +3)
She knows how to make people like her very well indeed. Only a monster could dislike her.

Socialize 4 (Autochthonian subversion +3)
She is a master at bending society to the service of Auto-kun. For their own good, of course.

War 4 (Sitting in the captain's chair +2)
She leads from a well fortified bunker, giving cheerful advice. Free from danger, she has more time to think.

Integrity 4 (I love Auto-kun +2)
He is the best. All others are inferior.

Bureaucracy 3 (Robo-communism is inevitable +2)
Robo-law is the only valid law.

This build is obviously somewhat in jest for Marrow, but is actually a pretty good Charisma social build for preparing for Auto-kun's coming. With a slightly better attribute layout and without mandatory useless charms it could also easily be an excellent combat leader.
*spit take*
After I finished laughing my ass off, it occurred to me that this would be an incredibly useful build to add to our Assembly, just not for our first addition.

Extra points if we use this for Piggot.

Likewise, been making that argument every single time someone keeps trying to reach out. Probably will succeed this time I guess.

[X] PRT and Me: Spend casual time with a PRT member. Stunt chooses PRT person and sets scene.
-[X] Stunt: When you scheduled a planning meeting with Samson, Uriel and Dragon you didn't expect Dragon to show in person. Well, a Dragon suit. Either the suit really was in the area (visiting Armsmaster?) or she wants to put a more personal touch on this project. The aerial photos of Camden taken by you, Gust, and Bezalel's drones cover the table.
[X] PRT and Me: Spend casual time with a PRT member. Stunt chooses PRT person and sets scene.
-[X] Stunt: You feel nervous as you sit down, sharing the table with Chevalier, Uriel and several monitors showing Legend, Dragon and Glenn. You concentrate on the creaking wood of the chair, the lines of the table, calming down before you talk. "I've talked to some of you of this before, but with Loom's warning, it's time to talk openly about Exaltation."
[X] Low Places: Spend casual time with a Rogue, Vigilante, or Villain. Stunt chooses whom and sets scene.
-[X] Stunt: Brian's ongoing attachment to Aisha makes for an ideal opportunity to guide him, and thus, the Undersiders towards more legal activities. You consider this as you meet Parian at her new workshop-boutique, with a list of Philadelphia's PR savvy cape population in hand. If someone's brother could find legal work here, the siblings can be together again, without risking conflict.
[X] Protectorator: Spend casual time with a Protectorate hero. Stunt chooses Protectorate member and sets the scene.
-[X] Stunt: Hostility between Dragons and wizards shouldn't be a surprise. Since Myrddin was in Philadelphia to meet with Chevalier, you invited him to a home cooked lunch of quasi-authentic Autocthonian cuisine, hoping to pick his brain about his mysterious knowledge. Dragon was less than enthused. Myrddin wasn't happy either: one too many fights about there's no such thing as magic.

[X] Free Action: I need a weapon, something variable that I can turn all the way up to Endbringer if I have to. Your bug interface is flipping through PHO while you search the relevant PRT files for a good example while chatting with Chris and Dragon. There has to be something I can get approved by Uriel and PR.

[X] Free Action: Like a jumping spider ambushing its prey, you waylay a lone Chevalier on his way to Uriel's office. "I need this signed." You shove the paperwork at him. You worked long and hard using the bug computer to figure out Dr. Yamada's schedule to let her visit the refugee camp semi-regularly. "Can you get the Director to sign it too?"

So opinions on the Marrow builds so far?
mmh from what I remember all builds include:
- regeneration, heal other
- remove armor encumbrance
- various defense charms
the divergences then pop up with:
- perception
- surprise negation
- flight
- truth detection
with perception/surprise detection getting pretty costly?

So I'm gonna focus on the divergences (the other seem pretty mandatory).
If Marrow has no other source of flight (does her mass increase with every application of her power) and flight is (significantly) faster than jumping then this is my highest favorite.
Depending on how easy Marrow is to insta gib, I'd probably skip surprise negation and instead go for the vibrational sense (hey maybe she can cross train us that with the insects).
mmh truth detection, anima flare and she tells us whats up no one the wiser mmh,

Invisibility is out? I mean she could be rocking her anima flare and stay invisible and keep punching and everyone goes wha?
(I mean that was the problem with our invis right, we go invis repeatedly, which flares our banner and there is the big ass spider pointing our way)

..gonna reread the builds... though.20+ pages.. uff xD

@ Gromweld - important questions:

How does Marrows shard affect her stats in a clinch?
Can she exude the jagged armor as part of an attack, such as during a clinch?
Does her jagged armor function as a Razor Harness?
Does her jagged armor and condensed armor stack?
