Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 12: Luminous Loom Lavishes Luxurious Largess

Klaus said:
It got consumed by Oblivion, but but if you can reach one of them, you can reach the other, and from there Autocthon. It's kind of like the difference between Ireland and Scotland: people who live there care about the difference, but to people from America Earth Bet, they might as well be in the same place.:D
I'm having difficulty getting what you're saying.

Only if she chooses to.
The fact that she was a distinctive Case 53 with a personal kill ratio of 2 S9 members did not put her in the limelight before.
Loading a person up with Charms they are not prone to use is a waste.
Taylor was actively resisting her image initially. Fat load of good it did. Appearance is a tool just like every stat on the Alchemicals we have, and Marrow has the Charisma that we don't. We don't have the luxury to be picky about them, particularly not if our next candidate is Armsmaster(since by the time we get to the second one he should be recovered enough to pop the question), who probably won't have the same kind of hotness. Or any charisma.

Hell, Marrow had expressed her issues with her Case 53 looks. What would her reaction to becoming a bullshit hot robot be? She knows she looks like a monster previously, which kept her from interacting too much.
Someone I'd load with Social charms?
Weld.
He does limelight, and does it well; Marrow doesn't.
We don't get to choose her loadout anyway though, so moot point IMO.
I voted for Weld for that reason, but work with what you can get.
And yeah, moot point, we just make and present what we think are good builds for them, Gromweld would work bullshit robot magic.

The PRT already covers our living exenses, and our tinkering expenses when we get back to that.

at 2 dots, we don't have enough Resources to really make any llarge scale changes, such as helping Camden.

Frankly, I don't see us buying anything in the near future, so I don't see us having any use for money.

If we had access to Resources 4 or 5, things would be different.
Better to buy it piecemeal now, to spread out the cost. By the time Resources 4 or 5 becomes available we'll likely have access to a Vat Chamber for upgrades. Good luck getting enough support to spend 10-14 XP on Resources at that point.

Klaus said:
There is also the question of the value of purchasing a resource rank when compared to the Resources of the organization we can purchase Backing/Influence in.
We can't purchase any further backing in the PRT right now, so that's not relevant. My reasoning for Resources is to have some income flow independent of the PRT in case bad votes get though, like what has nearly happened a couple times already.

Klaus said:
Well, the thing we really need to build are the kinds of things only governments can normally afford. A Vat complex is expensive, and summoning Autocthon will either not really cost money, or be ruinously expensive. There is also the question of the value of purchasing a resource rank when compared to the Resources of the organization we can purchase Backing/Influence in.
Backing acts as virtual resources for PRT work I think, which means we're capped at Resources 3 for years before we graduate. And everything done must pass all PRT approval processes which takes time and paperwork.

Resources 5 is as rich as a small government. Richer in some ways without ongoing expenses and accountability.

Esbilon said:
Not really. We don't have to spend training time to raise backgrounds, and if we get Vats, Resources really shouldn't be prioritized.
In the case of Resources, you need money to make money, especially on the large scale of the higher Resource dots. Money doesn't just appear out of thin air and prayers(Sidereals aside)

Esbilon said:
Well, it will of course depend on the situation, but my main point is
1) Raising resources does not take any time
2) We do not actually have any use for Resources 2

While this is true, I do not currently see any plans for leveraging an increase of our Resources to 2 into even more money. If there was such a plan, I might change my vote.
The Parian votes (to help switch the Undersiders over to at least recognized Rogues) don't count in your mind? A secured Resources 2 backing would better assist that idea than remaining stagnant at Resources 1. And we even have in-story justification through the Number Man account

Parian's business opportunity(I'm pretty sure getting in on it is one of the leading votes). She'd need capital if she's going to be a business instead of a very good tailor.

Taylor helping to tailor. Heh.

Resources simply isn't as useful a trait as a number of other things we can spend XP on. Most of what we want, we'll be getting the PRT to fund anyway.

Esbilon said:
That option had slipped my mind as it wasn't among my own votes (and it's been a rather long discussion ;) )

I'm not sure it change anything, though. Taylor's contribution to that project is primarily in the form of silk and keeping the PRT happy-ish. If her costume-dress and new mask are anything to go by, she already has pretty decent capital.
And business plans. Parian may be a good fashion designer, but she's going to be complete ass compared to our Int + Bureaucracy.

sun tzu said:

Like I said earlier, Resources is also insurance in case a (bad) vote forces us to leave the PRT for one reason or another.

Besides, there are advantages to being independently wealthy enough to simply buy up all the land around a dimensional hole. :)

Once things (maybe) settle down a bit after the S9 event is over, I'd be interested in finishing off the Reputation (Beautiful) Background and then start on Fashion Mogul or Master Chef, allowing for XP priorities first.

Not a big fan of :

[ ] Free Action: Like a jumping spider ambushing its prey, you waylay a lone Chevalier on his way to Uriel's office. "I need this signed." You shove the paperwork at him. You worked long and hard using the bug computer to figure out Dr. Yamada's schedule to let her visit the refugee camp semi-regularly. "Can you get the Director to sign it too?"

What AM and MM need is not more sanity but more hope. So I am thinking more of cheesy "we miss you ward group photos" for MM and a steady supply of small scale tinker problems for AM (or the plans for some big thingy you are having problems with)

[X] Free Action: You were able to engage Vista in creating a daily picture diary. Horrifingly she immediately subcontracted Who? to the venture. You have unleashed a monster! Smile!

dunno about AM though.. connect him regularily with Dragon? Kid Win?

Investing into Parians business? I think spidersilk would be quite the seller to independents (..and villians).
(with a little luck we get Panacea to magnify our production)

Even heroes. Some heroes or departments would be willing to spring for spidersilk versions of their official outfits for the added defense.

The way I figured it was that if your raw damage exceeded the health levels, you could just insta-gib them without rolling for successes. The Melee 9 upgrade makes your attacks perfect-or-die.

Usurpation test nothing. This doesn't pass the Titanomachy test. One hit with this and GET, and you just one-shot a Primordial.
Not really.

For starters, no one would have had the full E9 upgrade during the Primordial War(it not having lasted long enough for things to reach the point where Exalts could been around long enough to hit E9).

Secondly, if you're using this on a Primordial, they've probably just activated their own PD.

Oh yes, but that would probably be channeled through our PRT resources?
(at least the cheap under costume bodysuit version)

..oh god just imagine Tattletale as saleswoman.

(I admit I am kinda focused on Panacea and Tattletale, just by "fixing" or just preventing them from going villian the world will get a massively better place)

Depends, if we make it ourselves and merchandise it through the PRT? Yes, and it'd be in a trust fund. If we supply the material to Parian, who THEN sells it to the PRT at a Tattletale inspired markup? It's profit and Resources.

Noting that we need to spend actual time to craft Perfect grade clothes, the spiders just mass produce Normal quality clothes. Parian could bulk manufacture Exceptional quality threads with her power at the least, so she gets more clothes produced per time invested than we do. All we need to do is for the spiders to keep weaving thread.

Wait a minute, you said 6.6 was the vote for our top 3, and we would select our final candidate at the end of 6.7, after getting to know our candidates. We were supposed to spend time with Bladedancer since we hadn't had a recruitment interval with her yet! Of course Bladedancer isn't competitive if she hasn't had her interval yet.
All my warnings were that the going-into-6.7 vote were the choice, not the 6.7-going-to-7.1 vote. That's why there was so much clamor for who to Interview over the last few votes.

Marrow's parahuman charm states that it can create Perfect weapons. However, Perfect weapons were excised from the game in the errata.
I am allowing, for very specific, rare situations, Perfect items.

Haven't heard anything about that, at least, not in this quest. It may be true.

In two years we will probably have finished this quest.
We will not have finished this quest by the time Taylor is 18. In fact, a large chunk of the quest will be done after she is at least that age (and Essence 4, to boot). Yes, this means there are going to be time-skips, but we'll see them coming ahead of time.

[X] PRT and Me: Spend casual time with a PRT member. Stunt chooses PRT person and sets scene.
-[X] Stunt: Loom's warning and Dragon's plans makes a meeting with the Directors critical. You bring Iris's notes and gathered news reports to Uriel, Director, I have identified some possible threats and opportunities from Loom's warning. I would like your permission and help, to contain the damage to Philadelphia and make success more likely. This is about Camden, and Exaltation.

-[X] Stunt: You feel nervous as you sit down, sharing the table with Chevalier, Uriel and several monitors showing Legend, Dragon and Glenn. You concentrate on the creaking wood of the chair, the lines of the table, calming down before you talk. "I've talked to some of you of this before, but with Loom's warning, it's time to talk openly about Exaltation."
[X] Low Places: Spend casual time with a Rogue, Vigilante, or Villain. Stunt chooses whom and sets scene.
-[X] Stunt: Brian's ongoing attachment to Aisha makes for an ideal opportunity to guide him, and thus, the Undersiders towards more legal activities. You consider this as you meet Parian at her new workshop-boutique, with a list of Philadelphia's PR savvy cape population in hand. If someone's brother could find legal work here, the siblings can be together again, without risking conflict.
[X] Protectorator: Spend casual time with a Protectorate hero. Stunt chooses Protectorate member and sets the scene.
-[X] Stunt: Hostility between Dragons and wizards shouldn't be a surprise. Since Myrddin was in Philadelphia to meet with Chevalier, you invited him to a home cooked lunch of quasi-authentic Autocthonian cuisine, hoping to pick his brain about his mysterious knowledge. Dragon was less than enthused. Myrddin wasn't happy either: one too many fights about there's no such thing as magic.

[X] Free Action: I need a weapon, something variable that I can turn all the way up to Endbringer if I have to. Your bug interface is flipping through PHO while you search the relevant PRT files for a good example while chatting with Chris and Dragon. There has to be something I can get approved by Uriel and PR.

[X] Free Action: Like a jumping spider ambushing its prey, you waylay a lone Chevalier on his way to Uriel's office. "I need this signed." You shove the paperwork at him. You worked long and hard using the bug computer to figure out Dr. Yamada's schedule to let her visit the refugee camp semi-regularly. "Can you get the Director to sign it too?"
