The locals can't even make chainshirts (antonio is selling them the trick right now).
They also don't have steel.
And even if both of those are finished it's a far cry from making good barding for an animal they never worked with or tried out what fits in terms of barding.

Silver has no barding not because you technically could not afford it, but because of where you were going off to fight. It is hard enough on horses to fight in the heat of Egyptian summer without loading them down with armor in addition to the rider and his armor.

I figured we just didn't have him wearing it because we weren't really expecting a fight on what should have been a simple scouting mission, plus the difficult terrain and added weight of carrying Inge with us would have worn Silver out more quickly.
No worries there, dude. TNE actually made one last night. Just needs a bit of editing to account for his barding and the additional Tricks he learns for reaching 3 HD.

The Thirty First of Elnu-hamba [Elnu Descendent] Year 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)
For the next five days after Tam's funeral you find yourself wandering the streets of Apuku hither and yon, not knowing what you are looking for, if that is you are even looking for something other than the change to tire yourself out enough to sleep at night. Most of them men had gone out to celebrate the victory as well as drink to the fallen, but you give no thought to following along, mouthing something about not liking the local beer, though from tom's look you rather suspect he bought that one the way a Duchman buys fish. Truth be told you are not sure what you would do with yourself sober never mind drunk and you shudder to imagine what you might confess once the drink started flowing.
Thus it is with no small measure of trepidation that you greet Antonio's offer of a night out at some tavern or mead hall, he is not so easily dissuaded as your men. "Never fear Sir Knight I shall not trouble you with a surfeit of cheer, my dealings have gone just as poorly as one might fear short of having the king drive me out and set that snarling beast of a hound on me."
Part of you wants to ask which beast, but the spark of interest fades as soon as it had come. They do say misery loves company though, and feeling miserable is better you have found than feeling nothing at all.
The following evening is a testament to three things, one that Antonio has a has a nose for finding strong drink the way a hunting hound has for finding a fox's trail. There is fruit and palm wine from the south, beer and sweet mead from the islands, he even managed to find the single merchant in the whole city who deals in 'Eastern Vine Sour', which sounds about as appetizing as scarfing down rotten fruit, but which is in fact the first wine you had seen since leaving Egypt, not good wine by any stretch of the imagination sour and cut with far more water than is decent, but still a squeezing of grape enough to bring thoughts of home to the mind.
It is over that very jug of dubiously sourced wine that you learn the second thing about Antonio, the man is not in the least shy about complaining over what he sees as an injustice done him. Repairing the Marcella had cost a good fifth of his profits from selling spice and even at that he was not as sure of them as he would be of work done in a Genoese harbor. "They aren't used to galleys here not by a long shot, they make ships closer to how your folk do bending the wood to the frame..." he cuts himself off with a laugh."You don't give a shit about the details do you?"
Antonio looses 3020 Gold (3000 for the repairs to the Marcella and 20 buying exotic drinks)
"Not to worry I'll pay you back with a long talk about horse breeding when you are done," you shoot back. You might still be far off drunk but even partaking in moderation had left you with a comforting warmth in your chest.
The captain laughs, but after his next drink the smile fades a little "I reckon I'll be good to sail out east soon where the ports larger and the waters calmer on the old girl. There's plenty of chances to make a decent profit trading from one ship to the next and if we can spread working mail ahead of others I figure we can make a bit it every port just from a bit of spare chain."
"We...?" You prompt. Truth be told you are not sure what Antonio needs of you and yours now that he has his chain and his connection to the local smiths.
"You swore an oath Sir knight did you not, that we should keep each other company on the road until we found home?" He takes a long drink. "Well home is too far off to find, but if I might for a moment speak as what I am but a humble merchant..."
"Merchant I will grant you gladly goodman, but humble?"The jest trips over your tongue almost unbidden. But for the strange tongue that echoes through the low hall of the tavern you might have been home keeping company with an interesting traveler long into the night much to the annoyance of your mother.
"Bah, no respect for a sailing man," he says with about as much bite as a week old kitten. "As I was saying vows are good for the old of blood and high of spirits, but for folk like me whose fortunes are rooted in gold I think it might be best to share something more down to earth. I'll split the worth of the profit from the last venture with you and Zaia evenly and you can both take what you need and put the rest back in to be invested in the next venture."
It is all that you can do not to choke on your drink at the unexpected offer. "That's..."
"Very foresighted of me, I know," Antonio laughs. Then in a more serious tone, though not overly so he adds. "Not a lot of men I trust with edged steel at by back in strange waters, but you and yours have proven that a hundred times over, and if that weren't enough the little witch girl is practically sewn onto you and in such a land as this I could do with her... powers as much as Zaia's wisdom. Not to mention... well my tongue may be silver, but it's of the more slippery sort, you have a trustworthy face friend, useful that."
You gain 3800 Gold
Mayhap if you were more sober you might take offense, but as it you give only a rueful laugh. He does after all have a point and you have more of his measure than you did at the day's start

OOC: I wanted to do the direction vote this update, but then I realized that you guys never had a scene to get to know Antonio and you still did not have his sheet, so I decided to take the opportunity of a decision he made with regard to Roland and Zaia to make a night on the town of it. Also as the title says you found wine... really really bad wine because t never really made it far out of the middle east with the center of the main agricultural package in this history being West Africa. Not yet edited.
I figured we just didn't have him wearing it because we weren't really expecting a fight on what should have been a simple scouting mission, plus the difficult terrain and added weight of carrying Inge with us would have worn Silver out more quickly.
Hence why he has that re-roll. Antonio is good at recovering from a blunder but not as good at raw diplomacy as someone who was trained as a noble represent his family honorably at court.
