[X] Alert the Crown Prince. Telling Rupprecht about your family would be a good idea, he didn't know much about them to think you would want to reconnect with them. You should absolutely alert him to the fact your family may be compromised by the NSDAP. Better safe than sorry. (Cost: Free Chance of Success: Automatic Result: Unknown.)
Roll = N/A. Crown prince is aware of your family's potentially compromised status.
"Truly? I thank you for bringing this to my attentions, Hugo. I'll have people investigate. In the meantime….." He gestured to his guard, who promptly walked over to you. "Take some of my security staff. They'll ensure nobody in your household goes missing." He practically spits the word, and with that, you make ready to rise.
"Thank you, Crown Prince. I will see you in the morning for the vote! Für Gott und Deutschland!" You salute him, and he gives a salute of his own back, you leave with one his guards. You didn't even know they made humans in his size. Broad shouldered, stubble, uniform clearly a size too small (You can see his muscles bulging the fabric). Fortunately it isn't far to the car, or to the office, where Kathe is waiting for you. The second you see her, all negative thoughts about your family vanish.
[X] Put pressure on the Landtag! Held is on side, and the vote is coming up soon. This week, in fact. With the DnPB throwing support behind them, hopefully you can ensure an easy victory for Rupprecht (Cost: Unknown. Chance of Success: 65-80% Result: Victory is assured for the Landtag vote. NSDAP members are bypassed.)
Roll = 84. One more day till revolution.
You awake early. Far earlier than usual. Which is saying something, given you reliably wake up at 5am. Getting dressed in a fine suit, you kiss Kathe on the forehead before departing. It is going to be a long day, and while you hope you'll find time to see her before dinner, you doubt it. Heading down the stairs of your townhouse, you pull your jacket on, to keep the cold out. You can hear the idling truck outside. You've spent a lot of time on trucks, as of late.
Heading outside, you nod to one of the Crown prince's guards, who returns the nod and then goes back to scanning the street. You can see his compatriot, as you enter the street, staring out from the study. God, Germany truly has fallen if you need armed guards to keep your house safe.
The men on the truck are overjoyed to see you, though. More than overjoyed! They break out into cheers as you are helped up onto the truck bed. The MG-08 that is perched atop the driver's cabin worries you, a bit, as the men drag you into conversation.
"Hah! Like I was saying, I hope those schoolboys try to start something. We'll show them what a real war looks like. It isn't so easy as smashing shop windows! I'd like to see them smash us!" The men on the truck break into laughter at their friend's jape, as the truck starts to move. Every man is armed, with a mixture of MP-18s, MP-28s and a few MP-34s. And, of course, more Gewhers than you care to count. "You excited for today, Oberst?" One of the younger men asked, as the truck began to speed towards the Landtag. Today was going to be….interesting. You can't say you were excited though. The fact that the Landwehr saw fit to bring so many weapons did not put you at ease at all.
"Of course! Is everyone being brought in by truck?" The leader of the convoy nodded, as the truck began to slow, to pick up a local SPD representative and his family.
"Jawohl, mein herr. The Captain wants to make sure we get the drop on the nasties." He chuckled grimly, giving his rifle a pat. "I doubt those schoolboys will be ready." The truck began to speed towards the landtag, and you saw several dozen similar trucks, donated by various sympathetic companies, including several taxi and cargo companies. There were impromptu fortifications all around the plaza, Flags fluttering in the morning chill. "Hey! Drive us by the Steps, then to the Totenkopf camp." The squad leader ordered, and as you reached the steps, you lept from the truck, joined by the SPD man, waving the men off as they cheered and went to assume defensive positions. You had to give it to Franz and the Crown Prince. This was an ingenious plan. If you tried to call a vote during the day, the NSDAP would simply filibuster until the session ended. So why not call an early session, and only send their notification after their state office had closed?
They'd figure out they'd been duped quickly, of course, but not before the vote had been called. Without the NSDAP to provide a token 'no' it would likely pass unanimously. Excellent.
You feel a twinge of anger when you see two BVP members voice a 'no' vote, but they and the two BBB members who sided with them are utterly drowned by the near-unanimous vote from the pro-Rupprecht faction. The BVP man, who's name you forget, made some boring, meandering speech about the 'Communist Prince' which got a few laughs. At him, of course, but still. Even the sour, unpleasant DNVP members laughed at him.
"It is decided then. Crown Prince, on behalf of the Bavaria Landtag, I hereby instate you as Staatskomissar. In this role you are vested with all the authority of the Landtag. God be with you, Rupprecht." It isn't the official speech, but you doubt it will be recorded how it was spoken. Rupprecht takes this in stride, bowing and thanking the assembled representatives. He promises to sweep away the filth that had infested Bavarian society, he had a plan to restore the state to her former glory. You see several republicans flinch at that, but you know better. He's likely planned out several major infrastructure and economic overhauls. You actually have some ideas about repairing the broken hospitals of Germany, you might have to have a talk with Rupprecht soon, after you've refined your proposals….
[X] Rupprecht über alle. Ensuring that the new merger of the Reichsbanner and the Stahlhelm goes over smoothly is vital. Rupprecht doesn't trust the Reichswehr, and you don't blame him. The SA get their guns from somewhere. (Cost: 20k ℛℳ Chance of Success: High Result: Reichsbanner/Stahlhelm merger goes smoothly)
Roll = 94. We shall nip it in the bud.
Franz patrolled in front of the assembled Storm Troopers. Real Stormtroopers. Real veterans. Who fought and bled for Germany! Unlike the cowards currently fomenting revolution against the government that these men bled to save from the likes of them. It had been years since many of these men had seen war, but they knew it like the back of their hand.
"One day more! One day more before the storm begins! We will be ready!" Franz patrolled in front of their ranks. He'd taken firm charge of the veterans of both organisations. He'd led catholics, protestants, lutherans and socialists to victory in the midst of the worst war Germany had ever faced. Beating sense into this lot was comparatively simple. He approved of them. They were bloodthirsty. Exactly what he needed!
"One day till revolution! We will nip it in the bud. We'll be ready for these schoolboys, they will wet themselves with blood!" The men let out a cheer as one. They'd only been drilling for two days, and already they'd fallen back into line. You could take the soldier from the fight, but you could never take the fight out of the Soldier!
"These schoolboys know nothing of war! They've never held rifles! Never been shot at! Not like you! Alone, you might be weak, but as unit there is nothing we cannot do! No obstacle we cannot overcome! Now prove your skill! Obstacle course! Again! If any man falls, you will all be punished!" He barked, and the unit, in their greatcoats, slung rifles and began to run, as one. Nothing bred unity like mutual suffering. As he hurled insults at them, picking apart their every step for signs of failure or weakness, Franz couldn't help but feel a huge swell of pride. He was back! Germany was on the brink….hah. It was the Revolution all over again!
And just like last time, it fell to the heroes of the Weltkrieg to save Germany from chaos.
"Scheisse! Verdammt runter!" Were the first words you heard, as you rocketed upright. Gunfire! You shoved Kathe off the bed, and hurled yourself out of bed, immediately going for the drawer on the nightstand, pulling out your luger, as one of the two guards rushed in.
"Herr Strauss! We need to go! We're under attack!" He yelled, as more gunfire could be heard, as he rushed passed you, looking out the window and opening fire. Firing a huge burst, before looking back at you. "Don't stand there! Move! Out the back! We'll hold them back!" You don't argue, you nod, and grabbing Kathe by the arm, mutter an apology as you drag her out of the room. Both the guards are firing, as you rush down the stairs. The second one has clearly been shot, but is still fighting, you try to rush over to him, but he waves you off. You can see three dead brownshirts who tried and failed to rush the door "Go! Germany needs you more than it needs me!" Grimacing, the man pulled a grenade off his belt and yanked the pin, hurling it out the door. You nod solemnly Kathe seems to have gone into shock. You rush backwards, to the back door, you pull a coat off the rack, to preserve her modesty and keep her warm. Sliding into shoes, you unlock the door and rush outside. The air is biting cold, and you can hear gunshots and fighting all over the city. Damn it! Kathe begins to shiver next to you. You can tell she is on the verge of tears without having to look at her. Pulling her in close, you hug her tightly
"Shhh, it will be alright, my sweet. We will be fine. I'll keep you safe. No matter what." You pull her in tight, and slowly stroke her hair. You don't know what the hell you are going to do, when at the other end of the alley, an SA goon appears. You freeze. He laughs at you, and you pray silently Kathe can't hear him, and you turn around, hoping to god that when he shoot,s you can stop the bullet.
And then he stops laughing. There is a screech, a crunch, and laughter. Familiar laughter! A truck horn blares. "Did someone order a stormtrooper express? Get in here! We are evacuating out of this district!" You turn around to see Franz's grinning face as the machine gun perched on top of the cab fires. Three of the Landwehr jump out the back of the truck and rush into the alley, to reinforce the men trying to defend your house and evacuate them out. "That means get in, you idiot!" He bellows, and you start to rush towards the truck, helping Kathe onto it, as one of the men, a fellow veteran, hands you his coat. "It's cold out. You are lucky we got here when we did!" He laughs and claps you on the back, as Franz begins to drive…..somewhere, blaring his horn and bellowing curse words at the fascists that infest the street.
You need to plan! Damn it! (Pick one. One locked.)
[X] Get Kathe to safety. This should take absolute priority over all other things. You don't know the scale of all this, but you can think of a few places.
[] Rally support! The SA might've landed the first blow, but they won't have the initiative for long. While it isn't clear how many armories have fallen, you can tap into the Crown Prince's reserves. You can augment the landwehr with volunteers!
[] Organise medical staff. There will be casualties, and it is your duty as a doctor, to ensure that as many men can be saved, will be. You'll have no shortage of staff volunteering.
As the drive continues, You can hear Franz yelling at you. You aren't sure what he is saying, but….You can kind of make out 'Command center'. So you assume he's driving you there. Wherever that is. You need to think out some kind of plan to give them!
[] Write in. Subject to GM approval. This will be presented to the Crown Prince as he gathers his military advisors in the War Room.
