A World of Mud and Sweat - A Future Nation Development Quest

How exactly bad is it for Japan? And how's South Africa doing?

Japan is a gerontocracy where the youth, thanks to a mixture of disinclination, generational hikikomori, and reality bending day-use VR augments, have completely disassociated with reality and (when they go outside) are fighting street battles over various nonsense while consuming endless amount of paid and advertized media. This occurs under the watch of their great-grandparents, who run the country.

South Africa just got out of its most recent drought, and thanks to gene therapy of a billionaire space-industrialist family (who will go unnamed) the South African elephant has been brought out of extinction. Thankfully nothing untowards has happened akin to the recreated Bluebuck, which has been rampaging through South African farms at a steady rate after it was accidentally increased in size (with the largest one Groot Blou weighing in at 600kg).

So Canada. How is its relations with Indigenous folks now? How's Alberta, given it dependency on oil, I am wondering if they've successfully pivoted to a diversified economy.

What's Vietnam and Taiwan like?

Vietnam is stuck between their opposition to China and their opposition to SAPATO. An active Cold War espionage local where Chinese and SAPATO spies work against one another to bring the country into the fold. Still Deng-cubist, having leveraged communist control into export success to capitalist nations.

Taiwan is a current hotspot, and largely viewed as the likely locale for WWIII. The SAPATO joint navy make regular passes through the Taiwanese strait. Korea-esque unification has all but died as an ideal, as China grows hungry again for their lost province. Universal conscription has been the norm for a generation.

Indigenous peoples are still struggling unfortunately, as they continue to heal from generational wounds while being treated as a monolithic voting group (and assumed guaranteed vote) by the Liberals and Green Democrats. Thankfully, they've never been stronger culturally, as the last two generations have embraced the culture stolen from them, and those languages which have not gone extinct have found revitalization. Further their ownership of the land has been reinforced both by judicial precedent and law (primarily the Reconciliation Act of 2035).

Alberta is a tale of two cities. Edmonton and Calgary are rotting metropoles akin to Vancouver and Montreal, but rural farms are needing more and more workers. Nonetheless unemployment has skyrocketed since the collapse of oil prices, as people who've worked all their lives in oil found a lifetime of learned skills largely useless. Albertans can be found all across Canada's numerous farms, working and sending money back home to ensure that people can afford rent. The Wildrose Party (alongside the Buffalo Party in Saskatchewan) hold similar control of their federal seats as the BQ do in Quebec, ensuring that parties continue to not be very competitive outside of the cities.

I do wonder how the Pan-Africa/Pan-Arabic War is gonna go. The Chad/Neo-Nasser meme war is good shit.

How's Iran dealing with all the chaos we've made?

They're enjoying the expansion of the Cairo-Neom rivalry and are expanding their opposition to Saudi Arabia to squeeze them from two sides.

Sounds about what I was thinking Canada could be in future. Especially the rise of regional focused parties dominating federal politics. It highlights the present day trend of traditional federal parties failing to step up and lead, weakening the federal governments credibility.

Alberta now mimicking the long economic migratory tradition of the Altantic provinces gives off a strong "how the mighty have fallen" vibe.

Probably unsurprising but I wanted to let everyone know that I'm officially killing this Quest. I can't run it with the new job, dog, and cat. I really appreciate everyone joining me in this short group creative writing experiment.

I might do something less complicated in the future. Until then, I wish everyone well and stay healthy!
