I like the plot twist. Adds drama, and I look forward to the upcoming smackdown.

.. she's a shaman right.. if she is a high enough level she has reincarnate to ressurect herself.

also fairly sure white mana can be used to ressurect the dead, black mana can too, but.. then she would be undead

Very nice progression up to this point. Plot wise I think that a permanent death of Dawn would be better than a resurrection. It would force the plot forward, let Winter grow as a character and make the world feel more dangerous. It would show that actions or inactions have serious consequences.

Also Dawn's death would move the story in a more interesting direction, instead of bogging down in training mode.

In general I find that the death of major characters make for more realistic and dramatic stories.
I'm going to disagree.
This incident would change him even if Dawn does come back but the story will lose a lot of potential if she doesn't

Winter needs a foil, a planewalking companion that he can play off of and that can play off of him.

Duos provide better characterization and growth than singletons, since they can play off of each other.

Riggs needs Murtah.

I do agree that he needs to get out of training mode, though.

Have to say, I kind of saw this coming. Winter was getting, far to overconfident for his actual abilities. We've known he's been slacking in the power end of things for some time now. Focusing on the 'short term' of speeding up civilization in Westros. He's been going soft without facing genuine danger.

And now he's gotten a much needed kick in his pants. Though it's very sad that it cost him this much.

Honestly, regardless of what happens, asskicker or asskicked, dead sun or rising Dawn, I hope Winter gets a VERY fucking stern talking to.

From whom? He will just tell Cloudsong to piss off — actually, he'll do the same to anyone on this plane. And when he comes back to Buffyverse, I wonder if its namesake will even want to be on one Plane with him after he tells her.

And Buffy's other friends will back her 100%.
"Go away. Play God somewhere else. You've done enough damage here already."

...By who? He's a Planeswalker. The only person who can chew him out for this is another Planeswalker (who likely won't care) and Buffy (who is likely to just beat him half to death).

Despite that, he's still a person (or has the mind of one. He certainly doesn't have the mind of a planeswalker) and can be fucking sternly talked at. Hell the whole "I MAKE GODS PISS THEMSELVES IN FEAR" thing would look pretty bad after months of hiding all his talent and helping as little as fucking possible.

Hell, look at it from their perspective. Dawn, a human accepted as a shaman's apprentice, has been around for three months when this weird motherfucker shows up, starts being all demanding and shit, takes her aside for secret shit and is generally an obtuse fuckawit. And then on a mission where he specifically demands (because I doubt he asked) to come along, Dawn fucking dies and THEN SUDDENLY HE'S FUCKING AMAZING. Yeah, really great guy, huh?

Yes because it was Winter's fault that Dawn Walked to Azeroth, Winter's fault Dawn decided to stay for the rest of the Shaman training, Winter's fault that Dawn went with the expedition to Outland and Winter's fault that Dawn volunteered for the assault.

Dawn's death is certainly Winter's failure, but I can't see how it is his fault.
It's his fault that he didn't take her home immediately, instead allowing her to do stupid things. He is guilty of inaction; criminal negligence that resulted in death of Dawn Summers.

Eh Dawn's an Adult she wanted to fight for them whom she called her friends well that's just her prerogative. You could say he's at fault for not getting over himself and more aggressively training her or not investing himself more in the war effort to stop things like this but for Dawn fighting? No not really.

I'll be honest, I don't see why everyone's freaking over her death. There are like a dozen ways to bring someone back from the dead in WoW. Besides which, she's almost certainly picked up Reincarnation by now. Only way her death is permanent is if the presence of an active Spark has the elements decide that they aren't dealing with this bullshit.

This stupid fortress pathways was too narrow for giant warrens[?] and without something like that, they could burrow us in bodies or simply keep coming until I ran out of mana if I tried to blast my way in.
Horrible, horrible mental imagery. Thanks for that.

I'm not going to call this Winter's fault. Though I image it quite likely he himself will do so.

That said, he definitely got arrogant in all this. He made the common mistake of confusing potential with ability. He is worshiped as a god on a world where he was the only magican capable of combat oriented magic's. Previously he was in ether more tech oriented worlds, or was ignorant to his own abilities. Regardless, he never actually had to fight anything that was a legitimate challenge to him until he learned how to walk.

As such, he could get away with the assumption that having the potential to tower as far above gods as they did mortals, made him effectively unbeatable in terms mystic.

Now he's gotten the fact that no, there are things that can hurt him shoved into his face. That's going to change a lot of his behavior. He might not go on a powergrab rampage, but he is likely to view others more legitimately as threats. Rather then 'simple mortals'.

She died while using her magic to keep him alive/save him. That's going to have an effect, though he's lost people before, and likely under similar circumstances.

That said, I'm keeping my peace on the reactions until I find out if she's going to stay dead; if the WoW revives were just a game mechanic in this world. As they're here to assassinate a leader, chances are good that revives can be prevented.

On the one hand keeping her alive would be very easy to justify given magic and the setting. On the other hand I want to see Winter start a personal mission to wipe the Burning Legion from existence.

It's entirely possible that Dawn will resurrect, and equally possible that her death will have extinguished her spark. That way Dawn doesn't have to die, but her death still has serious consequences. It is possible for Planeswalkers to lose their spark, and it has happened several times before. I've seen a Legendary Creature card that makes mention of the fact that it used to be a planeswalker, though I can't remember the name at the moment.

I can get behind this...
If Winter survives his quest and keeps his sanity...

He should at least use his remaining white mana? blue mana?? to heal Dawn's body so that that b*stardized demon's action against her bones & muscles be reset and healed her poor body....

So i just finished reading cruel to be kind and caught the crossover post again. After seeing it referenced from an outsiders perspective i got a little curious. Exactly what kind of armor is Dawn wearing? Is there an image you can provide?

True enough, but i imagine Hiver had something specific in mind that he could reference rather than just taking a wild guess. There are a lot of options for stock armor but the field opens up quite a bit if you bring in modded armor.

I can't help but think that Dawn's got the self-res ability down and won't die here. On the other hand, I could certainly see her losing her spark. And Hiver not noticing. And Hiver deciding to continue teacher her to walk.

Let's just say that that won't end well.

Yah, back when they were talking about "magic armour" I kept thinking "Ok, having the armor magically reinforced is good, but wouldn't it make more sense to have actual armor and the magical enhancement? That way you have two layers of protection?
I'm pretty sure that Winter covered that. Something about how the magic actually works better when there's less clothing, for some reason.
