Large Silver of Evening Argument Post

So, let's talk about how Silver of Evening is the best. Silver of Evening does five things, which I'm going to go through one at a time and then as a whole.

First, let's talk about the Agilty buff. We have Cut Through. That allows us to kill essentially everything, provided we can hit it. It also allows us to intercept and cut through any attacks launched at us. The main limitation of Cut Through is that we have to actually be able to hit opponents to kill them, and we need to be able to react fast enough to intercept attacks with our Praxis blade. Guess what stat determines both of those? That's right, Agility. Silver of Evening gives us +130% Agility, +145% under enhancement. Silver of Evening is the most synergistic EFB with Cut Through. You know what's better then two EFBs? Two EFBs that synergize with each other. Furthermore, we've been investing in physical stats all game. Remember my huge history and analysis post? We've invested more in physical stats then any other thing, period. Silver of Evening multiplies the most important and powerful of the physical stats. As such, it has the highest synergy with our current build of anything we could get.

Next, let's talk about the charisma buff. We're going to have to rule an empire eventually. Having massive charisma will help with that. Furthermore, being able to steamroll people in social is always valuable. And then we have Vigor Itself - a 2-Arete option that adds our Charisma to our Protection. This has immense synergy with Silver of Evening, allowing us to get truly monumental protection for very cheaply. Silver of Evening, in addition to synergizing with Cut Through and our entire build's greatest strength, also synergizes incredibly well with the Blood Advancements, which are already our most effective no-Arete and low-Arete options.

Now we get to defensive rank. I should remind people that Once and Future, a mixed power/potential EFB, gives +1 rank, +2 in many relevant situations. +1 Rank applied defensively is worth perhaps a quarter of that. So the entire rest of Silver of Evening should be considered as if it was only costing 3/4th on an EFB, and it's already kind of completely ridiculous.

Now let's talk Edeldross. I've already touched on it with Agility and Charisma, factoring the doubled potency into the calculations for those. But it bears repeating that Edeldross apples to every stat. Including Willpower, which is our Praxis-associated stat and also adds to our Might and Agility (ohe hey look even more agility). This also applies to Protection, Intelligence, and any future stats we might gain access to like Wisdom, Luck, Stealth, ect. And remember, our Edeldross proficiency will increase in the future, and all future increases will also be doubled, giving Silver of Evening high potential growth as well.

Now let's talk about that once-a-month perfect defense. This has many uses. For example, if Hunger would suddenly die because we made a bad decision or got an unlucky roll, this could save him. It could also be used to de-fang the Apocryphal curse for two days, if we ever need to do something vital that we can't afford a severe interruption of. It could also be used to buck the Tyrant's Doom for brief periods, which may be necessary if we ever have to interact with a powerful civilization we can't afford to piss off. I should note that this is the only thing we've seen so far that can bypass the drawback of Uttermost. We haven't actually have a Tyrant Proc all game, so I think many people are underestimating how bad it could be. Having some form of assurance for that could be very very helpful for Not Dying.

Final Thoughts: I've been harping on synergy this whole post, but it bares to be said that Silver of Evening is the single most synergistic EFB with our current build. It synergizes very well with Physical stats, the thing we have the most investment into. It synergizes with Cut Through, our previous EFB. It synergizes with Edeldross, which we've spent 9 Arete on. It synergizes with Quickening and Blood Buffs, which we've spent 7 Arete and many picks on. It provides a method of bypassing the Doom of the Tyrant, which is a major weakness of our current build since we can't mitigate it. Silver of Evening also provides a lot of immediate power, in a situation where Rihaku has warned us that we should probably not take potential-based options. Silver of Evening does provide some potential though, by massively multiplying the effectiveness of Vigor Itself and giving our future Edeldross Advancements more oomph.

In Conclusion,

Rihaku himself has noted Silver of Evening's immense synergy with our build. Note he calls it "very synergistic" and "the most synergistic." We have word of Rihaku that Silver of Evening is the most synergistic thing we could get, and anyone is considering voting against it? I don't understand. Haven't people complained in the past about our lack of synergy? Don't people want to achieve maximum power?

Silver of Evening brings together every single major Arete expenditure we've made all quest. It's an Evening Sky advancement, it massively benefits all the Sword options we've taken including Cut Through, our largest Arete expenditure, it plays perfectly with our massive stats, it enhances our Blood Advancements, which were unlocked by Chief Dominion, it buffs the magic system we bought and got an upgrade for...

That's right. Now that I think of it, and analyze all the options... Silver of Evening synergizes with every major Arete expenditure we've made the entire quest. It also ties them all together, uniting everything we have into a single coherent build. How can anyone vote against that?

[X] Silver of Evening
Hmm. Nice post. I am willing to jump ship to Sliver of Evening, if you vote for Selune since it seems like you don't have strong feeling on that vote.

Mhm. We will probably kill him at some point soon whatever we do. But I don't think Gondar has the potential to keep up with an Cursebearer even in the short-medium term, if he survives.

Erri has better odds of becoming an threatening antagonist.

He might not have the potential to keep but, but the real question is whether the apocryphal has the ability to throw him enough of bone to be a threat to us even after the temple?

[ ] The self-defeating stance – The ultimate stance of the forebearer, for it assures that no one shall reach the apex that the forebearer himself attained. Any attempt of mimicking the forebearer's powers, will inevitably trigger the self-defeating stance, with it increasing in power and magnitude the closer one becomes to the forebearer.

Paradoxically, the only way to not trigger the self-defeating stance would be to become the forebearer himself.

It's effects are at first subtle: The individual will grow his powers in sub-optimal ways, not noticing, or caring, about potential synergies that are available, on top of that, they will start to take more and more risks, and become less and less worried by the consequences of their actions.

As it increases in potency, the individual will start to care more about things that wouldn't help in their survival, or would even lessen their odds of surviving, eventually becoming an obsession with the individual. The most common form of it occurring is by an obsession with their aesthetic, or perhaps having too much sentimentality for inanimate objects, sometimes caring more about them than what would be useful for their own survival.

At its peak, the individual will become schizophrenic, their choices having no rhyme or meaning behind them, on top of the person becoming nearly uncapable of even short-term planning, and constantly throwing themselves into danger.

The only way to survive the self-defeating stance is by logic and will. One must always think rationally about their own actions, and be willing to shed sentimentality on the face of mortal danger. Only then can a individual be worthy to become the foreberear.

272 words. Tremble beneath it's power!

If you look at the blurb for Crimson Flare, you might be disappointed to find only two effects before saving the Azure Ring:

Elevates the wielder's Rank by a variable amount [Currently: to 5]
+2 Rank for purposes of wielding the Chief Dominion.

Here, I'd like to point out how utterly ridiculous these two effects are.

1.) Elevates the wielder's Rank by variable amount [Currently: to 5]

Rihaku is keeping mum about whether this variable amount will increase going into the future or not, so instead I will just note that an equivalent benefit was worth 4 picks. Bigger active rank means more things go our way, means peer-level enemies go from scary to kind of wimps, to be honest. People have talked Rank up so much, so I won't reiterate it.

2.) +2 Rank for purposes of wielding the Chief Dominion

It's very powerful. Rank 7 debuffs when your enemies are Rank 5 are spectacularly potent. It grants only modestly less combat power than Once and Future in exchange for substantially more utility. Possibly even more overall power than One and Future, given the +.7 Rank it also currently grants.

Hoo boy. This one means that we get to massively increase our DoTs, basically squishing whoever we meet that isn't outranking us. It means our self buffs are massively stronger. Remember how we give ourselves STATS with Chief Dominion? We do that here as well. We heal better, heal Versch, heal our allies. Our blood sense increases, making us better at tracking enemies down and watching our flank. Our Rank is getting SO swole. In a direct confrontation where Rank is meaningless, then Silver is concedably stronger and more potent. Consider the additional battle utility that we get from Rank and better Blood that Silver cannot provide-- many of our problems can be solved by BIG MECH, or better regeneration, reducing the actual impact of complications and wounds on our person.

Rihaku makes a cogent point about how Rank differences affect STAT differences here:

Indeed! Though the amount of stats necessary to overcome an "overwhelming" gap pales in comparison to the amount necessary for a "nigh-unwinnable" one. Going further beyond that would require an even more stupendous difference still!

If there is a Rank disparity between us and the enemy, it will take comparatively more effort and resources offloaded into stats to compensate for that. Enemies that outrank us but are peer-level overall will find the stat disparity more easily compensated for than enemies that outstat us but are peer-level overall with a Rank disparity.

Thus, the point is made: Rank is a more direct analogue for straight power than stats are.

3.) Special Advancement

It doesn't lock us out of picking a pure potential option, or a pure utility option. The other EFBs for Ring are either Weird and Speculative (Dreaming) or Amazing but Scary and Dangerous (Ruling Ring). If we spend on a concedably powerful EFB such as Silver, we lock ourselves into undesirable buys for Ring. Instead, spend on a more agreeable Ring EFB, and choose later between the Evening Sky EFBs.

Hmm. Selune concerns me just a little. She does buy us a few updates of safety, which we can use to regenerate the Arete she costs.

The issue is that we only have like three days without the Apocryphal Curse left. So if we take Selune it's likely the Apocryphal Curse is going to kick back in while we're inside the Inner Temple perimeter.

Effectively, our choice this vote is if we're going to take a risk now, with the possibility of Gondar's poisoned arrows or Avecarn seeing through us, or take a risk later, with Selune.

Paying to take the risk later might pay off, if we can generate enough Arete in the mean time to get Silver of Evening, which would put our combat power at extremely high levels and give us the social power to talk Selune into joining us. The question is whether we can generate the 12-ish Arete we'd need to get Silver of Evening with Selune before the Apocryphal inevitably blows our cover.

Do you mind if I take a bit to think on it?

Sure. Though, I will say it's about taking risk later with lot more intel about the temple and opponents we will find in there.

Flare is more of a "win now option". It puts us at level of High Marshal and the like, it deals with contest of primacy, it extends Letrizia's lifespan, it heals Verse, it fixes our rank, heals us(?) etc. It gives us all things we need.

Fact that it's a perfectly serviceable EFB on top of that just makes it a must pick.

My actual expectation is that she's got someone trailing her to make sure she doesn't flub things completely, sent by at least one of the people she pulled strings with to get the assignment. Either because they wanted to know why, as yet another layer of safety, or because they think she's an idiot and going to drop the ball horribly.
her bodyguard means no one should expect the ball to be dropped and her motivations of being stir-crazy are reasonable ones

It also commits us to rescuing the Azure Ring in order to fully capture those benefits, gating some behind the very obstacles we need its power for. While I see the added incentive to stay the course as more feature than bug, ensuring the thread's conviction doesn't falter at the last minute, that's not a downside that can be dismissed.

It isn't a downside, because Hunger won't let us leave for long even if we wanted to. We're already committed. This is just acknowledging it.

it deals with contest of primacy,
If we get Crimson then the ruling ring must be delayed until we get a Sky Imperial purchase, or else we lose the Panoply special advancement. Maybe you're fine with that. Seems most players aren't.

Given Gondar's stated motivations regarding the ten million people in the Inner Ring, I'm anticipating a decision point where we're forced to choose between the Ring's suffering and their welfare. Hunger is committed now, without that reality staring him in the face, but aligning the incentives ahead of time can't hurt. But the full benefits requiring the completion of our objective is a downside, whatever way you slice it.

Yeah, if we get a Ring or Sky Imperial advancement next pretty much everyone who knows what the special advancement entails will fight tooth and nail to ensure we qualify for it. If Crimson or Silver wins, we've absolutely got to get one for our third artifact.

Isn't that a neat little trolley problem. I'd love a Tyrant proc against the concept of ethical analysis in its entirety. Moral Precepts are potentially as powerful as the Accursed, but Hunger hasn't travelled enough to verify that proposition. Therefore Hunger might reject their authority over him under the exact wording of Doom of the Tyrant.

(Alternatively I'll get to indulge my special interest of applied ethics while farming for Arete.)

Most players aren't ok with losing the Panoply bonus. I'm saying that Crimson has a risk of delaying Ruling Ring.

Crimson will delay Ruling Ring! As a Ruling Ring advocate myself, I've accepted that 1.) it is kind of foolish to risk a contest of Primacy without even knowing what other Rings are like or how they react and 2.) other voters might not conscience picking Ruling Ring even if we complete the parts piecewise. As such, since prospectively it is difficult for many voters to stomach Ruling Ring EVEN after we take an Evening Sky Imperial Advancement (I hope I'm using the term right), it makes more sense to go for the Panoply bonus instead of risk staving off Ruling Ring and thereby the Panoply bonus until we feel ready for a good bit.

Thus, the optimal path is already before us: Cut Through -> Crimson Flare -> ES Imperial Advancement (I'm partial to all of them) -> Ruling Ring

Though, if we get Cut Through, Crimson Flare, and then a Evening Sky EFB, that puts us in a position where we can nab the Special Advancement for having one EFB for each of the panoply. Are you going to pass that up for Ruling Ring?

(Though ofc, if we can get Ruling Ring on top, that'd be great.)

I dare to presume that Special Trinity Advancement does not lock us out of purchasing further EFBs.

Seriously, if it actually gimps our long-term growth by forbidding Accretion EFBs, just... No.

If I remember correctly Rihaku stated that there are further special advancements for getting three for each artifact or nine for one if we go that route.

...if that were the case, I would very much regret all my life choices. Alas, the problems of having a shoddy currency and not knowing what comes after [ ] Trinity - ... or if that even is the Special Advancement in question.

I would only pass it up if the two were mutually exclusive and Ruling Ring just happened to be better in my estimation, it turned out to be detrimental to future progress, or seriously offensive to my moral sensibilities. I don't find any of these possibilities likely, but in the case that the Special Advancement fits any of these characteristics, I would take a pass.

Hrggg I lost most of the reactions I wrote today. There was a lot of material I prewrote early in the morning. I am writing all of this for the second time.

Life is pain. We need more Arete.

With Hunger and his absolutely brutal pace, more like fleeing from respite, lol. Hunger is at his most comfortable when Ring of Hunger is quietly digesting the latest bounty of power from the recent prey, I think. Or fishing. Or killing himself for power, maybe. That last one was pretty disturbing to observe, I suspect.

...Or maybe infiltrating an evil moon temple civilization, maybe. That could also work, presuming we get consistent power-ups from the social and intrigue challenges. Who knows, if we pick Letrz's cousin, we might even get some fluff out of it, just before we inevitably put a great number of actual people to the sword without any remorse or mercy.

It was a cool, clear, cloudless night, the moon pale and bare like carved crystal, crown-jewel of the skies presiding over the winds and realms beneath. They crunched through the snow-frosted path to reach the public baths, expansive panels of richly oiled wood towering menacingly to shield the occupants from onlookers.
Realm of JRPG landscapes and weather strikes again. If it is not bizarre, then it is stunningly beautiful and picturesque. With the Voyaging realm like this, I am surprised we didn't yet detect some massive source of findross warping the Voyaging realm into what it is now. We know that Foremost used Findross, so it is more surprising to not find it here rather than the opposite.

"Let's get a private pool," Gisena said, flipping the jeweled key on her wrist. "There are some reserved for suite holders only!"
"Suddenly shy?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Of course!" Gisena clasped her hands meekly. "I'm just an innocent maiden, after all..."
I wonder how freedom from the Maiden's Duty would affect her character. One does not achieve the Third Coalescence without buying into Maiden's personal ideology, but in absence of pressure, deviations may happen... And Gisena is resentful of her Grace. If we do ever achieve Quintessence, we probably could attempt to tinker with her affinities, maybe change them to something less negative; not that it would be a particularly efficient expenditure of our efforts.

"I'd like a private pool," Letrizia said, eyes darting to and fro. "You never know when there might be perverts lurking about."
Naturally, Asuka, apologies, Letrizia is concerned with what is important in life. Though, with Hunger and Gisena, any potential hijinks are likely to be less comedic and more brutally dismembering. Maybe even with a hint of political intrigue, considering her station and where we currently are. Sovereignty might have hidden pretty far away from the Human Sphere, but not far enough if they really piss them off.

...I wonder if her worries are born of memes, or there is something in her backstory. Eh. Probably just being Space Opera Asuka rather than anything particularly serious.

They entered a smaller pool inset to the side. Though thick wooden panels obstructed horizontal vision, the panels facing outwards could be lowered, allowing bathers to take in the view. Below them was the serene darkness of the mountain outside giving way slowly to the jewel-fire glow of the city beneath. It was a breathtaking vista, and Hunger spent a moment simply absorbing the sight before leaning the Forebear's Blade against a wall, then entering the bath.
I wonder who are the typical visitors for this place. Sovereignty seems to have built itself into some sort of a tourist trap and entertainment center for the adventurers and wanderers of the Voyaging realm; I wonder how much actual traffic they get, and if their strategy is actually having any sort of positive benefit on the struggle against Rotbeast.

On an unrelated note, at least we didn't take the blade into our bath. Though maybe that doesn't matter too much, given that we actually can summon it and telekinetically manipulate it to a degree. It is kind of hilarious; basically his entire panoply is still in reach, even now. Trying to ambush Hunger right now is no better than walking up straight to him and then throwing a punch.

No comments about the Evening trunks, so I am going to assume they are cannon until proven otherwise.

Gisena pushed Letrizia in, then daintily slid in herself, carefully gathering her hair to twist into a water-resistant bun. Letrizia surfaced angrily, sputtering, and lashed out with a wave of water and Pressure that Gisena effortlessly dodged. Pouting, Letrizia sank beneath the surface, blowing bubbles at the two of them.
Relax, Letrz, with the new abilities you are not in threat of either getting pruney, cold, or anything, really. Worst case, you'll need to ask Hunger for a blood buff.

...Sharpbright is going to be so good when she actually gets Ennoblement, I think. The fastest way to skip ahead on the power growth curve is to start from a better position, and we could fling her pretty far with Crimson Flare. And having great Astral Rank actually helps with Longevity, too... Hrm.

I wonder if Armaments benefit in any way from having a high-rank pilot. With Foremost apparently actually having some heroes of unusually high rank, I wouldn't be surprised if Versch has some functionalities that could be unlocked only by a particularly potent pilot; Armaments not having any sort of way to exploit having such circumstances would be rather strange.
Gisena turned to him. "What do you think of our swimsuits, hun? Rather fetching, if I do say so myself!" Hers was a two-piece bikini of pale violet, with lace-like patterns adorning the sides.
He grunted. "Is all your clothing the same color as your hair?"
"Pretty much!" She splashed over to him, leaning onto the stones beside the pond. Looked out at the city, a slight smile graced her features. "It's hard to find shades that go well with purple. You're welcome to expand my wardrobe if you'd like..."
Color schemes are difficult; I am kind of disappointed that Forebearer's blade is silvery; IDK how it works with the rest of the color scheme. I guess it does contrast nicely with the evening sky? A bright blade splitting the evening sky, I could imagine it working.

...I wonder what Hunger typically wears under the Evening Cloak; don' think it was ever described.
"Maybe after you pay off your debt," he remarked, slumping forward and briefly closing his eye. The waters held a steady, intense heat that felt almost as if they were massaging his muscles, gentle warmth that pervaded through to bone and marrow.
At least he hasn't yet lost an ability to enjoy simple pleasures without having to carve out a stone bath and a water spring himself. Imagine having all pleasures in life being bound to be only derived from one's own personal efforts, he'd go mad... Wait, no, Progression Cursebearer. Urgh.

"Aw," Gisena brushed playfully against him, hauntingly beautiful in the moonlight. "Sure I can't take out another line of credit?"
"It would be inadvisable. Debt can crush even a genius."
"But money is just a social construct!"
Social construct backed up by guns and charisma! And there is probably a magical system or three that could turn wealth into power, too. We do know of one that can turn enemies into wealth; it is called Accretion.

...Notably, Hunger is probably hauntingly handsome himself as of right now, so it's not like he can't fire right back in this social combat.

Letrizia swam over, nose upturned haughtily. "Miss Gisena, I still haven't forgiven you! Lord Hunger, do you want to review sparring partners for tomorrow?"
"Oh my, the wrath of a duchess!" Gisena winked at him. "Her fury knows no bounds! I'd best retreat before she turns truly serious."
So saying, she dove and emerged on the opposite side of the pool, sighing contentedly as she lounged against the stones.
Letrizia is a good girl.

...Aaaand she stills refers to Hunger as Lord Hunger. I wonder if this is some sort of a sneaky teasing thing, or she just can't stop herself. Does she respect that one line about Hunger being nobility that much? I guess the imperial etiquette probably was drilled into her since infancy, you don't easily let go or forget things like these.

"Only if you don't call me a lord. Now, sparring partners. Is your notebook waterproof?"
"I don't need it!" Letrizia said cheerfully. "Now with my Element enhancing my Rank, the information I need comes easily to mind with just a quick review."
"I'm proud of you."
O O F such dad energy I am surprised we have yet to do a "Hello hungry I am hunger" joke.

She preened. "Well, i-it's not that big a deal. T-this is just kids' stuff compared to what I'll ultimately be able to achieve."
Weak to sincere praise... But many people are. L-like, some people I k-know really appreciate when p-people are reading their effortposts!

But seriously, this here is almost a critical hit. I wonder how often she actually does get sincere praise from people she cares about; she probably got a lot of empty platitudes as a duchess and an Armament pilot, but considering that her dad was presented as somewhat of a hardass and her social circle is lacking, she might have been a little deprived of such small yet precious things.

They discussed tactics and likely opponents both for the spars themselves and the potential recruitment to follow. Hunger was uncertain if their party wanted another member to look after, especially one that would need to be protected as nearly all Elementalists did, but couldn't avoid the fact that the Elements she described had undeniable utility in breaching the Temple.
"To look after" betrays Hunger opinion about this option in a sense... But its not like the options that need such attention are automatically bad. And we are already "looking after" Letrizia and Gisena most of the time, ever since our progression outpaced them to a ridiculous degree.

An unfortunate reality of being a progression-oriented Cursebearer. Well, the mercenary girl is still likely to be somewhat useful, in intrigue-full life of the inner circle. Although at our supposed pace... Pity we don't really have time for a long-term infiltration; that could have worked wonderfully.

"So, tell me about your own Element, Hunger! You said it helped you beat the Rotspawn today, but what does it actually do?"
"It's a force of indiscriminate enhancement that applies to anyone immersed within. As far as I can tell, it works on all faculties of body and mind, on foe as well as friend."
"Interesting!" Gisena appeared next to Letrizia, who startled as if jolted. "Fire a bolt? I'd like to take a look."
"I can't really fire bolts..." Hunger said. "The smallest blast is still the size of a car."
"Cars are fascinating!" Gisena replied easily. "It's translucent force, right? No one will notice!"
Lack of control rears its somewhat ugly head. Well, on the bright side, even simple amplification is pretty damn good. Eldendross is a really curious element, with plenty of implications about Findross's nature.

He loosed a blast at them. Letrizia cowered slightly before she exclaimed in awe, looking at her palms as if they held the secrets of the universe. Gisena adopted a contemplative expression before smiling smugly.
"This almost feels like findross!" She said. "Incredible, I think this is a precursor substance to actual findross itself. Blast us again, I want to test a theory..."
I wonder how many more precursors of Findross there are. Is there a negative opposite of Eldendross, somewhere, somewhere? Are there any precursors to the precursors of Findross?

Such deep lore. Much to think about.

Shrugging, he did so. In response she raised a palm, intercepting his blast with her own Nullity.
I wonder if constant Elderdross upkeep could help her accelerate her own ascension. Just keep hitting her with those +Int blasts until she ascends!

Well, she has almost finished anyway, and we are going to spend a lot of time inside of the Temple so it probably doesn't matter.
"As I thought. The energy isn't being nullified - that is to say, the power of Nullity isn't rendering this Element mundane. Instead, they're actually cancelling each other out! I think this contains the parts of findross that uplift and restore, elevating the mundane to the supernal. In a sense, it can be considered the opposite of my own power!"
She scooted happily over to him. "It's just as I said earlier. We're a perfect pair!"
I suspect she is pretty happy for other people to have awesome, constructive and benevolent powers like this... She is a bit resentful of her own nullity, after all. That being a thing is probably the only reason she is not yet fourth coalescence or higher, I suspect; she is incredibly talented, otherwise.

Also notably demonstrates that power of Nullity is not quite as fundamental or absolute as one might think.

Also, Accursed excels even at superficial elements of shipping, as expected.

"Hm..." Letrizia thoughtfully tapped the side of the pool. "Your Element's pretty cool, Lord Hunger, even if it's not as good as my Sharpbright. If it really is related to findross as Miss Gisena says, maybe we can call it edeldross? The prefix 'edel-' refers to ennobling or improvement, especially in the context of something traditionally bad becoming good. Don't you think it suits you?"
Pretty cool huh. Boost all our stats by 20% as a starting power is "pretty cool." Sacrificing Inksky for this is... This is a bit hurtful.

"A fine name, but do I come off as evil?" All of his current panoply had been Abducted from one villain or another. The Forebear's Blade, the Ring from the Tyrant; even the Evening Sky had belonged to that pirate captain, though in a diminished form.

"Yep," Letrizia said obliviously, "but don't worry, it's kinda cool! And I'm sure no one would mistake your intentions once they see your work!"
Yer wrong Letrizia. We are charismatic and dashing and all manners of good-looking. We got almost supernatural charisma, even if it is kind of scrubby compared to our other stats.

"I don't know," Gisena said. "I've seen plenty of Paladins and Knight-Captains with that color scheme, or at least similar ones! I'm sure people would mistake you as a hero if you smiled more."
Gisena knows what is up. We also could pull of a weathered mentor archetype, I suppose. The scars and lost eye add to the charm.

"That part of my life is finished. I'm done with taking on requests for strangers with no expectation of reward."
Letrizia looked slightly disappointed. "But isn't that the best part of heroing?"
Considering she actually had a lot of combat experience, she might be actually speaking from a position of experience. But while her life with Super Mecha Anime with some bitterness mixed in, Hunger's was a Fate/Zero-esque drama through and through.

Well, maybe we'll get to enjoy saving people once again in the future. Assuming ten million voices do not cry out in death, cursing Hunger's name as he tears beating heart of their civilization out of it's ribcage.

...We really should get Flare if we care about stuff like that.

They discussed his choice of wardrobe for several minutes more, to his moderate dismay. Tired out from overusing her Element, Letrizia eventually trailed off, mumbling to herself as she slowly fell asleep.

I dunno, for a man who tore sky itself to fashion himself a cloak, Hunger is surprisingly disinterested in looking good. This is why your charisma is so low, Hunger! Merely supernaturally compelling!

...Although effortless cool is a style, too. We could try making that work.

"I'll carry her back," Hunger volunteered, but Gisena laid a soft hand against his arm, eyes gentle and green.
"Let her rest here for a bit. The waters may help with her Elemental exhaustion."
"..."
"What?" She swirled around to face him directly, crossing arms beneath her cleavage. "You don't believe me?"
"...Are you trying to make her pruney again?"
Considering what we know about other sorceresses, a slight tendency to derive pleasure from the suffering of others is pretty normal for users of her magic systems, even if they are of Maiden's archetype. With such sterling examples to follow as Clarion Sorceress, miss "experiments on living humans" and that one bloodknight that almost killed Seram, one is kind of left wondering if Maiden was more of an overlord-type character rather than a Jeanne D'arc pastiche. She probably had to do some pretty hardcore stuff to ignite her Findross singularity, too.

Gisena giggled. "Maybe I want you to carry me instead! You have two arms, so there's no excuse to skimp out on a full princess carry."
"Hmph. I do owe you one for the Magus fight. Here to our room is a pretty short stretch. You okay with that?"
"Good point!"
Oh, yes. The good stuff. Forget about scaling power of Ruin, this is what we got those hands for. Hunger is really to not carry Gisena around like a sack of potatoes.

She leaned back, raising one pale, slender foot out of the water. "Perhaps you can give me a massage instead?"
"You slacked off the whole day, why do you need a massage?"
She gently kicked water at him, which the Evening Sky obligingly deflected. "Why not? It's a continuance of my relaxation!"
"Fine. Come here."
Welp, hopefully, all those stats and Rank means Hunger is good with his hands. Hunger been getting really close to Gisena lately; the feeling appears to be mutual, considering we have what, eight + with her relationship? Seven? That's late midgame Suizhen level of loyalty iirc, although Gisena's character and worldview is not quite as blindly follower-like as Suizhen's was.

The next day they set out bright and early, though the hotel staff did their best to have them stay, even offering free nights if he would but fight the Rotspawn again. Despite the tremendous economic value of their proposal, Hunger had to deny them, though he didn't rule out attacking the Rotbeast if they happened to pass through this region again. Their vacation was drawing to a close - one last bit of training against Letrizia's classmates, and he would make for the Temple again.
We almost did stay for one day longer, to be fair. Well, whatever. This vacation was good for us; we powered up considerably, achieved some thought-to-be-impossible personal goals, even got a +mental stability for Hunger which is a pick so rare we never saw it before... Good stuff. Now back to our contractually bound messy attempts to cut through the Temple so we could outscale Ber, rescue ring and finally get to the Human Sphere.

...Man, imagine actually getting out of the Moon Temple Vietnam. We'll be looking back at these days like some sort of a surreal dream, incapable of believing it actually truly ended for real.

They'd gained much from this trip; in many senses it had been more productive than attacking the Temple directly. But every day delayed was unnecessary suffering heaped upon the Imprisoned Ring. Hunger would see to its rescue as soon as possible; other paths were unacceptable to him.
And then we engage in a somewhat slow infiltration of the Moon Temple's social circles and gatherings, while potentially murdering other adventurers that seek to liberate the ring in order to prove our turncoat credentials. Nice. Well, we got some options to potentially make that venture successful, so I am not going to harp on it too much.

Maybe we even can continue our luxurious lifestyle, if that option to get into good graces of Letrz's cousin wins. Vacation never ends until you decide it is finished, after all.

Gisena's Relationship EFB will be revealed later!

Still waiting, Rihaku!

This was honestly quite a good, and would've helped us right now. Alas, Eldendross Adept has more potential is a rare pick.

...I wonder if there is an Elderdross Expert? Master? Grandmaster?

The winning option. My complicated relationships with the option that shafted Inksky aside, this was a very strong option that made us significantly stronger for a very little investment. Pity that it pushed us away from an EFB, but what can you do.
