You what we call a king that stands alone? A shit king. That's more an objection to the name than the effect of the pick itself but we should bear in mind that becoming ruler of of a huge interstellar polity in only a few millennia is a matter of strategic and social actions with little to be gained by personal duels. An interstellar surgecraft blast might remain relevant but fighting armaments is a minion job.

[X] Forebear's Blade - Ruinous Valor (3 picks)
-[X] Zweihander
This is the healing holiday, the stances look useful, saves our arete for our own element pick.
[X] Upgrade Letrizia's Magic (from 2 Arete-equivalent to 7-Arete equivalent)
Buffs our armament fighting minion, sets the the precedent that Hunger can get Human Sphere origin humans good magic - after all our blood manipulation is part of her getting the power - which will help with recruitment.
[X] Check up on Gisena
We have killed more and bigger rotspawn than expected which should mean a gun budget.

@runeblue360 Shouldn`t the current attribute in the character sheet have the added Willpower from Cut Through?

Also changing my vote to:
[X] Upgrade Letrizia's Magic (from 2 Arete-equivalent to 7-Arete equivalent)
[X] Forebear's Blade - Ruinous Valor
-[X] Zweihander
[X] Check up on Letrizia

Save gang, let us resist the temptation of magic.

We are an Cursebearer, personal might is the most important thing to someone like us. No amount of strategic or social actions matter against sufficient power. It's power to an large degree that will allow us to survive the consequences of Tyrant's Doom in an society or reach an position where we can actually have an polity or fight Armaments.

Rank 10 Armaments are not something our minions will likely ever be able to face unless they are using other Rank 10 Armaments. They are absurdly powerful. You can be sure that we will be the one most likely fighting them when the time comes.

The King Stands Alone might actually allow us to face multiple of them, if we succeed in reaching the point where we can best one of them with an good chance of success.

I just noticed that The King Stands Alone has no preceding artifact or title. Is it an incipient function of Cut Through, similar to Might's Repose or Feast of Lives?

Will not taking it make our Sword Praxis weaker forever? Probably not, but insufficient devotion to the blade is probably something to be mindful of.

It's a Royal Praxis technique. Our Accretion isn't solely about Artifacts, techniques, habits and locations are also something we can learn to bind as we grow.

Edit: Hell, Super Juggernaut Undead Chimera seems to be a combination of our undad memes

On the subject of ++Progression: the point of more picks is to get better stuff faster. Turning down rare/unique things offered early to get to other stuff faster is the opposite of the function of ++Progression.

Also: getting this now delays our Dominion purchases by like, what - two turns? At once? The Ruling Ring is still our first and primary goal, and stopping for an hour to pick up the solid gold bars on the side of the road is not going to hamstring us. Have an ounce of faith, guys.

I'm going to be really disappointed if, after I got so happy about getting a magic system, ya'll choose to put no investment into it at all, when we just spent a defining advancement and 25 Arete total into SORD. It's time for MAEGGANG to have their day. Especially since people seem to be pretty committed to getting Ruling Ring.

I'm also a little disappointed in Cut Through so far, sure Hunger's internal monologue was cool as heck but I was hoping for more magic-like effects rather then "SORD but blue now." I guess I'll have to rely on Surges for more mage-ish things. Of course, that relies on us getting a good surge.

Which will be a step on the road to becoming king, in that that's a way of acquiring enough high rank (they won't still be 10 if we've had to beat them down) Armaments that we can equip a squad to gang up on others. If we're to have any hope of actually fulfilling the geas we'll need that to be a snowball that can roll without us most of the time eventually.

We haven't even gotten any techniques yet, of course it looked simple. It was only the very basic effect of Cut Through.

Probably true yeah. When we start doing stuff like cutting a hole in space to make a portal and attacking backwards in time to hit where our opponent was four seconds ago I'll be happier with it. Still, for the time being it's not bringing me that happiness.

So, here's the deal ya'll.

I have time to write some reaction posts today, and maybe an Omake if my creativity complies (~30% chance, maybe 50% if I push it). I'm going to be busy tomorrow though and probably won't have time for it. We also get increased Arete generation today, which is more reason for me to get on it.

The problem is that the critical Imaginary Element vote is probably tomorrow. This is a pretty important vote for me. After some deliberation, I've decided I'm going to post everything today to take advantage of that Arete generation bonus.

It'd be really nice if I ended up not needing Omake power behind my vote when the Imaginary Element choice comes around. Just saying.

Don't worry I'll make sure we get element that does nothing but buff our physical stats. 👍

It seems that King Stands Alone...kind of stands alone currently. How sad. I'm currently not entirely supportive of ruling ring mostly due to the contest. Rihaku isn't going to throw an rocks falls, everyone dies on top of us, but i bet that he would screw us over for being too greedy.

I'm undecided if i want to spend 3 picks on the magical system, but we have already passed up a lot of rank, and we really should get around to improving that.

As for surges, i would argue that the best ones are probably utility ones for us. Cut Trough gives as immense offensive power, but currently, not a whole lot of utility. An surge that serves as an force multiplier would be ideeal.

Sakuya has already been stated to be something possible, then perhaps something like an timetide? Time dilatation would be immense for hunger, and would increase the value of our current large agi and future agi ups. On top of time stop being insanely useful with Cut Trough once we master it. Something akin to that would convince me of taking surge, more-so than any offensive one, i think.

I've got some mild on going concerns with Time Manipulation as Hunger's Imaginary Element. Mostly because of Decimation and how bad the aftereffects to reality becomes when added up in the long term.

I mean, doubling to dectupling drain for duration of combat is relatively unnoticeable in greater scheme of things.

We all know Letrizia`s Imaginary element will be Anime. But with the power of Anime she could elevate the Neon Genesis Evangelion mech to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Neongene: A biological element fashioned from a slurry of artificial materials, heavy enough with defensive Rank to tear thin grooves in material subspace. Living organisms made from it can't survive outside the presence of a skilled Surgecrafter, as they can only derive sustenance from the consumption of Imaginary Elements. A natural umbilical feed from their creator can abate this process for a time, allowing them to grow and develop while still docile and easily-molded. To splice these sequences is immensely harder than simply creating whole-cloth, but a successful hybrid could have benefits ranging from superhuman intelligence and true natural Rank to holistic Astral subsistence and synthetic true breeding.
