You've just reworded my argument yo.We have been warned that to survive outright it's best to pick a 7+2 option, or even a seven and multiple twos. Barest Cut is essentially gambling we'll do well enough in our first encounter to grab another synergistic seven option; which puts immense pressure on the voterbase and the conservative options that would mitigate its risk also offer less rewards, going against the point of the build in escalating in power. It's basically a huge gamble.
I mean, it is what it is, 4 Arete worth of advancement. Or two picks. It's not insignificant, and it's certainly something to pick if safety rather than rewards are your primary concern, but I like winning and mere incremental power doesn't seem enough for that.Murderer's has +STR, ++Con on Cuts, so its survivability (and offense when using Fell-Handed Stroke) are notably superior, plus can spam blade wind more easily and has the chance to crit on blade winds, plus leverage / utility advantage from any attack in which a fall can be utilized. There are a lot of incremental advantages that compound into a much greater offensive package overall. Whether or not it would be classified as "major" is situational, but such situations exist (lucky crit, Fell-Handed Stroke falling attack, etc).
But red compels meI do agree it's an efficient use of your Arete, though it would be much safer with a Conservative strategy and +Rank.
In summary, vote Conservative! It's far, far less suicidal!
Of course, we may find Nobles there, or Temple priests, or any number of beings who'd be offended at us not recognizing their authority. But it's not gonna be every interaction; likely not even most of them. It's a risk worth taking, especially with the power of the Panoply.Aggressive explicitly lists a chance of triggering Tyrant's Doom as a downside so I think a broader range of things count as customs than you're thinking.
far all our social interactions have been with people who either were too socially intimidated by us to gainsay us (Zea and the Traders) or could somehow sense the limits of the curse and work around it (Gisena). I doubt either of these will be the case for whoever we run into in here.
But the conservative blurb has a typo in it! It's unplayable!
Seems a little unbelievable to argue that the people who set up a settlement outside the dungeon won't be found inside it. The upside of bringing Gisena is that we never have to talk to the people in there, Gisena can just talk to them for us making Tyrant almost impossible to proc! This was 90% of the reason people voted to bring Gisena with us in the first place. There's no reason to believe we're definitely going to run into anyone in here. We have little idea of the identities or dispositions of the people at the other side of the Temple besides our initial impressions from afar, and we're entering from an entrance that's so far away it took a giant mecha a full evening-to-morning period to reach the other entrance. And during all that travel time, in which we could see the Temple, we saw nobody.
And even if the temple forces us to interact with others, there's a substantial middle ground of ordinary social interaction that can be had. The other camp was a mixture of a bazaar and an encampment; these people are not a rigid military unit, and they aren't automatically demanding and hostile. It's certainly possible that we run into people like that, but adding Gisena to the mix won't actually stop someone like that from attacking us anyways. Any non-Tyrant provoking interaction, we can handle. And any Tyrant-provoking interaction Gisena is unlikely to be able to defuse, especially hostile quarrels over resources.
Err, I think the meaning was that Conservative allows us to slowly explore and take advantage of Ring Affinity while we need more strength for Aggressive. So Conservative+Ring or Aggressive+(Rank or Focus) are considered logical combinations.
It feels like we are never going to be in a place to save Arete, that there will always be pressure to spend spend spend.
[X] Aggressive
[X] Ring affinity
[X] Murderer's Panoply
Well let's try and maximize our exp here at least.
We're going to be thoroughly explaining the dungeon?
[ ] Conservative - Favor cautious, thorough explanation and withdraw in the face of unusual effects that he (or party members, if available) cannot intuit an understanding of. Do not provoke creatures, if any exist, into fights, and check regularly for traps and other dangers. If possible, exit the Temple frequently for breathers. This may requiring staying in the general vicinity of the doors. Reduces [I am the Danger] bonus to 5%.
Aka. I fucking went to sleep. Truly, Curse of Slumber is most taxing of them all.You could have saved Arete if Make for Civilization won. It almost did... but there was a last minute surge of votes and omake power for Temple.
Yeah, who does that anyway?!You could have saved Arete if Make for Civilization won. It almost did... but there was a last minute surge of votes and omake power for Temple.
I think we don't actually need to be greedy here. If we survive the temple we have more than enough power to beat Bearic. The problem is that Conservative feels bad when the ostensible purpose for the excursion is to get power. It kind of goes against the reason we're here.
But hey, if choose Panoply, we don't have to worry about that at all! We are free to get all the power we came here for. So I recommend it if you want to be Aggressive.
Conservative actually uses Nightmare Praetor for once, scouting things out and planning attacks against appropriate targets.I think conservative is going to be plenty dangerous as well, it's just well relatively less YOLO.
Perhaps we should have taken heed of those puzzle hints...
If rather than exploring we're actually going to be explaining the dungeon maybe combat power is less relevant than we thought? Maybe the key to acquiring power here is understanding what the dungeon is doing? There must be a reason it warps space to capture the moon and why the front entrance is barred to all others than us.
It really doesn't. Conservative pursues power, it simply doesn't do so as aggressively; it involves more time allocated for recuperation, and being more conscientious of dangers and whether it's worth interacting with them. The problem is that Conservative feels bad when the ostensible purpose for the excursion is to get power. It kind of goes against the reason we're here.
