I trust Rihaku's writing skill enough not to prematurely cast judgment on how Aobaru will get "shitty characterization" from his betrayal. It's a classic trope for a reason and I honestly don't think it's as bad as some are portraying it.

Aobaru is a teenage boy and Mordred is him doing what teenage boys do. Just look at any of those "why women live longer" memes. This is perfectly in line with his characterization.

Counterpoint: I was, at some point in my illustrious life, a teenage boy, and not once did I betray my nigh-deific mentor figure of incalculable power, who had done me no wrong, and was currently in the process of saving trillions to quintillions of lives from an evil surgeon at the goading of a possibly-insane swordguy on the grounds that my mentor was not allowing trillions of people to die, including me, so that I could feel important.

Getting put in extreme high power high stress situations and told you have a great responsibility to an entire world when you have typical teenage imbalance is a recipe for disaster. Especially if you feel like you're not strong enough to live up to your chosen hero status, and the biggest power boost you ever got was a side effect of someone else. Maybe you didn't do it as a teenager cause you didn't have the option 🤔.

Update in 10-20.

Allow me to show you the destiny you might have claimed, which the Praehihr unwittingly severed from you. The destiny that we might yet now restore. Understand now that the purpose of the Elixir Springs was solely to bring about their counterpart; all other elements mere radiation. From the life-giving waters which merely imbue power, arises the solitary flame, that embodies it.

For the Vigorflame numbers among our finest weapons, and there is no weapon which I have not mastered.

Behold, the might and the fury of our Chosen One.

Power came upon him then, power in an onrushing flood, ocean of oceans too vast for comprehension; brilliance beyond sight or reckoning, heat like a supernova flare, a torrential advance delirious and inconceivable, all-conquering and - constrained. Dammed behind the wall of his arbitration, not by force but by volition held away.

For it was only his own power, and could not arise if he was unwilling.

It's been a while since I participated in Page Gang, how nostalgic. It is time to see what Birdsie's dedication has wrought - I look forward to it!

Huh. I wonder what the Shoguness would have to say about the Mirellyian bloodline. Interesting that even the Foremost would consider Vigorflame a powerful weapon in their arsenal. Could the connection to Haeliel be something that wasn't just coincidental but actively sought out? It's a real shame we didn't take that option for Gisena, seems like it would've come with some very interesting lore.

The gods are monstrous bastards and must be overthrown. As such, who cares if they hate us? Zethale is insufficient but with time and effort, we can seize their thrones and build a better world.
