There are some things money literally cannot buy. A closer relationship with your lord, a wealthy spouse for a superfluous son, someone not likely to give a toss about your weird religion, and maybe we get a line on some nice bows from the Summer side of the family...
I suppose, but if you're rich and powerful those things can come to you anyway...the Tullys need the Blackwoods more than the Blackwoods need the Tullys, etc. But as you say, there are plenty of factors that can sweeten deals.
