Kanto Week 9 Part 1 - Water in the Rivers and Air
[X] Learn to Swim - While you do know how to swim, there is a notable difference between swimming for fun and scuba diving. And an even greater difference when it comes to exploring underwater caves. Dratini would have fun teaching you.
[X] Explore Unorthodox Locations - Exploring parts of the area most people don't will be an interesting experience. Pineco would very much enjoy hiking in the mountains.

Violet didn't realize how hard it would be to find scuba gear in the area. The settlement she was in didn't really have an official name, instead being referred to as the Local Pokecenter, the Power Plant, Electricville, etc. It was here she realized how spoiled for choice she was in the cities, where she could choose between ten different stores. Here the only option was a single general store attached to the Pokecenter where necessities were all that they sold.

Finding scuba gear was a step above things like food and bandaids with Violet being forced to wait a day before buying the gear secondhand from another trainer. During which she spent a few hours scrolling on her phone.

Her parents had congratulated her on her first gym victory, before asking when she would be back in Celadon City for her battle. Violet hesitated before saying she didn't know. The idea of her parents cheering for her made her feel warm and fuzzy inside, but it was tinged with the cloying feeling of self-doubt. That she'd somehow embarrass herself in front of them. Thankfully her parents changed the subject to more mundane concerns in their texts, which she traversed through mindlessly.

Continuing to scroll, she noticed that Testuya managed to earn the Boulder Badge, relying on his Onix and then Krabby to do so. It had been a close battle, although her childhood friend hadn't shared any of the details. As for Willow, she explained that during her journey through Mount Moon she had caught a Bronzor before having a battle with a member of Team Rocket who had been stealing Pokemon from trainers in the area. Violet frowned at that, she didn't like the idea of the Team having free reign anywhere, let alone a place where law enforcement rarely ventured.

Putting it out of her mind, Violet picked up her new scuba gear. After which she wandered towards the river's edge before letting out her Pokemon. "We'll be camping here for a few days," she said to which Dratini immediately began to cheer, causing Pineco to appear amused at the Mirage Pokemon's exuberance. Chansey by contrast chose to relax, waddling up to the river's edge before plopping down on a rock.

Violet stepped into the water herself until she was hip-deep. At which point Dratini began to excitedly swim circles around her and she began giggling at the sight. "Give me a minute," Violet pleaded with a smile on her face as she started fiddling with the various knobs and settings on the scuba gear. Quickly realizing it was far more complicated than she thought, she bit her lip as she concentrated.

She secured the mini-tank to her back, which provided her with 10 minutes of air. She wanted more, but realistically she just couldn't carry a larger, heavier tank through mountains. Screwing the regulator to the tank, her concentration was broken as a splash of water hit her.

Reeling back, she saw a giggling Dratini who splashed her once more. Violet knew she should focus on the scuba gear, but there was something far more important to do first. Dragging her arm across the surface of the water, she retaliated against the Mirage Pokemon, starting a battle between the two where the weapons were water. It took 20 minutes before their splash battle ended by mutual agreement. While Violet hadn't gotten the practice she desired, she found it hard to feel bad about it.

Resting on the edge of the bank beside Pineco, she spent a little while discussing some observations of the area that the Bagworm Pokemon saw. Such as the mountains on the other side of the river, which could make for an interesting journey.

After recovering her energy (and taking a picture of Dratini sleeping next to Chansey), Violet found a chance to practice for real. Over the next two hours, she spent a while diving into the water with her scuba gear. Her first breaths underwater were nerve-wracking, as every instinct she had told her it was a bad idea. She'd managed it, spending a few minutes underwater staring at her oxygen meter all the while. The first dive only lasted five minutes, mostly due to her heart rate drastically increasing her air intake, but slowly she managed to push it towards the 10 minutes advertised by her tank.

She learned a lot from the next few days. Firstly was the fact that exploring underwater caves would be something she would only do after a lot of practice. Not to mention with actual, dedicated equipment. A tank of air that lasts three hours would be a start, but that was still a long way off. The second lesson was that the water was cold. While it may be manageable on the surface, during one of her dives toward the deeper parts of the river, she realized that the temperature drops rather quickly and Violet knew she'd have to buy a wetsuit.

It was on the last day that she experienced something more unique. Deciding to swim on the surface, mostly to get used to how it felt to do so with scuba gear, Violet began to see drops of rain landing around her. She was a bit surprised by how hard it was to feel, as the normal motion of swimming already caused water to splash around her. At first, she thought about staying, but as the rain got heavier, her Pokemon began to feel nervous about Violet remaining in the river, and the shy girl couldn't find it in her heart to stay in.

Camping that night was a different experience than normal, as her Pokemon and her huddled under a blanket within her tent. It may not have been the best idea, as all of them felt cramped, but it felt wrong to put them in their Pokeballs. Which led to them doing their best impression of sardines in a can.

It was uncomfortable, but oddly cozy. The four of them barely slept through the night constantly being awoken by gusts of wind or each other. While it wasn't something Violet would ever want to do again, it was something she didn't regret.

When the rain finally ended and the sun came up, Violet stepped out of her tent and began to stretch. At this point, she was a good enough scuba diver that she could conduct basic dives so she felt it would be valuable to start exploring other areas. Pineco had some suggestions herself, and so they had decided to start exploring

[] Eastern Mountains - The mountain range across the river, it is a desolate place rarely traveled by most due to the difficulty traversing it.
[] Forest Mountains Above Route 9 - A range of forested mountains that are home to a variety of Pokemon. They are not that frequented by trainers due to the lack of powerful Pokemon.
[] Mountain Range over Rock Tunnel - A rather extensive mountain range with a lot of crevices and canyons. Traveling here would involve a significant degree of mountaineering.
[] River Exploration - A more sedate option would be to explore the river itself through a combination of a canoe, scuba gear, and other equipment.

Kanto Week 9 Part 2 - Problematic Pidgy
[X] Electric Overlook - Violet and Pineco would try to find a path through the mountains that got a good view of Electricville and the Power Plant alike.

Trudging through the mountains between Eletricville and the Power Plant, Violet stopped for camp. It was the end of the first day of her journey through them, and she had climbed several miles to even get here. Due to the terrain, she had a limited number of options for her approach. Either taking a roundabout route from the intersection between Routes 9 and 10 or climbing a steep face near the Power Plant itself.

After observing the latter, and noting the various loose rocks and the necessity of using climbing gear, she had decided to take the long way around. It'd taken her most of the day to cross the first batch of mountains, giving her a good view of Electricville. Unfortunately, looking south towards the Power Plant, there was a set of mountains still in the way.

As night fell and she rested her weary legs, Violet spent time around a campfire with Pineco. She showed the Bagworm Pokemon where they were and indicated likely locations for vista points that could see both Electricville and the Power Plant. Most of these were located at the tops of the taller mountains in the southern part of the area. Pineco asked about a more western ridge that might have a shallower view, but Violet pointed out that it would at best see a quarter of either landmark.

Having convinced Pineco of her intended route cresting several of the southern mountains, Violet and her Pokemon slept through the night, walking up with the rising sun. Hiking through the ridgeline of peaks, she arrived at the sloping uphill climb to where she had theorized a vista point was. Pausing to admire the landscape, Violet blinked as she saw a cluster of bird Pokemon in the air. Taking a closer look, she spotted a group of Pidgy that adjusted course towards her. Maybe they were friendly, she remembered thinking.

"Keep up that Twister, Dratini!" Violet called out as the Mirage Pokemon maintained his attack, preventing several of the Pidgy from approaching as well as knocking several from the sky.

To the right, Chansey was using Echoed Voice repeatedly whilst Pineco body blocked any Pidgy that made it past Dratini, and there were quite a few that did.

"Come on, everyone, keep moving!" She called out, seeing that while the situation was stable for now, her Pokemon were getting tired.

Dratini chirped in response, slithering backward in a zigzag pattern ensuring he could move, dodge, and maintain his attack entirely. In contrast, however, Chansey and Pineco were far slower, with the Egg Pokemon choosing to physically lift the slower Bagworm Pokemon and waddling towards the overhang Violet had indicated.

Having realized that the danger of the Pidgy flight was the sheer number of attack vectors they could take at once, Violet had begun moving towards a more restricted environment from the beginning. It certainly wasn't easy as despite the flight only using rudimentary tactics and being rather inexperienced, there were a full fifteen Pidgy arrayed against her. Relying mostly on area-of-effect attacks like Twister and Echoed Voice, Violet had been making good progress at keeping the wild Pokemon at bay before they spread out enough that her plan wasn't as effective anymore.

Ducking under the overhang, Violet sighed in relief as the Pidgy flock backed off immediately. Understanding that they didn't have any hope of getting through the group of three trained Pokemon from a single direction, the flight briefly tried to wait them out. And after a few minutes decided that stealing food from them was too difficult and left.

With that amount of excitement, Violet and co decided to camp early, erecting their campsite under the overhang. Spending the evening tending to injuries sustained during the fight, the shy girl felt strangely energetic throughout the whole endeavor. No one said exploration was easy, and this just confirmed it. But where else would she get a similar experience?

It was on the third day that Violet crested the summit of one of the southern mountains in the range. Panting heavily from the steep climb, she rested her hands on her knees for a few seconds before looking up.

There was the Power Plant far below her. Intimidated by the sharp drop (which she estimated was 60-70 degrees steep), Violet made sure she didn't get too close to the edge. Instead, she snapped a few pictures of the site before turning around towards Electricville, the town still visible from miles away. Smiling wildly, the shy girl was glad she got this experience.

And she knew it would be the first of many to come.

*Dratini upgrades Twister to C++*
*Pineco upgrades Watchful to B–*
*Chansey upgrades Speed to D++*

Kanto Week 10 Part 1 - Local Pokemon
[X] Catch a fourth Pokemon - Catching a Magnemite or other electric-type Pokemon is why you came here, there are almost certainly good options present.
[X] Travel through the Rock Tunnel - Heading to Lavender town through the Rock Tunnel is the traditional method of travel for trainers, even if it is likely to take a few days to do.

Having explored the area a bit, and fulfilling the desires of her Pokemon, Violet decided that it was time for them to depart. However, there was just one thing left to do. Catching a fourth Pokemon.

She was pretty sure it would be a Magnemite, but she wasn't content to do so without looking around for other options. Moreover, Violet decided to take a more adventurous route towards Lavender Town through the Rock Tunnel. While the journey would take a few days due to the difficulty in navigating the tunnels and caves, she was confident she could manage it. Especially since she did train a little in the caves under Cerulean City.

As for Pokemon to catch, Violet began by cataloging ones that were quite well known. Route 9 and 10 had several Pokemon available to her, primarily normal and flying types but also surprisingly a good deal of fighting and poison types as well. The Power Plant was also a site that could provide a fair few Pokemon (mostly Electric types), but it seemed that there was a colony of Magnemite in the Rock Tunnel that was present due to their Magnet Pull nature having issues in the Power Plant itself. As for more uncommon Pokemon in the area, Violet spent a few days exploring areas north of Route 9 where she believed a few of them to be.

She found a group of Mankey in the forested mountains, but swiftly ran off once their temperament switched to a far more hostile mood. During this short sequence, she also found a pod of Bidoof around a small lake. Finding Bronzor and Rhyhorn was also surprising, as she hadn't expected them to be in this part of Kanto. But after stumbling across tracks for the latter and spotting the former from a notable distance, Violet saw that she had a few more options available to her that she hadn't planned on before.

Trying to find rarer Pokemon was a failure, unfortunately. She had heard rumors that a pod of Dratini and Dragonair visited parts of the nearby river. Understandably, both Violet and her oldest companion were curious if that was true, but they simply didn't have the time for a proper search. Similarly, a few trainers were paranoid and fearful over reports that an Absol had been spotted in the Power Plant. Sadly, the Pokemon's public sentiment was rather negative, and it was likely being chased off by a group of trainers who thought it was bringing disaster to the area. As such, Violet didn't feel that it was a good idea to harass the Pokemon further, deciding she wouldn't even try to locate it.

Beyond that, there were reports of a Charmander in the mountains (and now that it was mentioned Violet may have an idea of where to find it) as well as of a Haunter nest in the Rocket Tunnel. Furthermore, a trainer had taken a blurry picture of a Kangaskhan and Linoone nesting next to each other but Violet had some suspicions on that one due to the trainer demanding money to share the location of said Pokemon.

With a better understanding of the area, Violet took a moment to see what her friends and family were up to. Chatting with her parents was fairly normal with nothing different and Testuya simply said he was busy training. Calling Willow … may have been a mistake, for she was beyond fired up. Having just faced Misty for her second gym battle, it seemed she was rather under-leveled, resulting in Willow being swept by a single Starmie. Rather than think of it as a setback, Willow instead took it as a mountain to climb and had been challenging dozens of trainers in the area to train her Pokemon and prepare for a rematch.

Now that her social obligations had been dealt with, Violet spent a few hours preparing for her journey through Rock Tunnel. Buying maps, additional rations, extra water sources, and a lot of rope the trainer did her best to ensure that she would have options available to her regardless of what happened. While more specialized equipment would have been nice (such as climbing gear designed for caving), that wasn't an option where she was, and Violet wasn't willing to trust second-hand climbing harnesses. As a result, her preparations took only a few hours. After which she was ready to catch her fourth Pokemon and head through the Rock Tunnel.

Kanto Week 10 Part 2 - The Dark Underground
[X] Magnemite
- [X] Catch one of the Magnet Pull Magnemites from the Rock Tunnel.

Carefully making her way into the Rock Tunnel, Violet felt isolated and alone. The trail she was on was less of a trail and more of a series of spaced-out signposts indicating which tunnels to follow. With the only source of light being her headlamp, Violet felt her nerves stretch to their limit. Calming herself with the knowledge that she had not one, not two, but three backup sources of light, she forced herself to continue following the signs, only stopping to mark her location on a map as she went, ensuring she didn't lose track of where she was.

Making her way towards the Magnemite pack, Violet realized that the last sign she had seen was strangely long ago. Pulling out her map and compass to orient herself, the Pokemon trainer brought Pineco out of her Pokeball so that she had a second set of eyes. The compass was almost useless, spinning around in circles due to all sorts of strong magnetic fields in the area. Putting it away, Violet and Pineco traced their path through the cave, eventually realizing that the sign wasn't pointing the right way. Instead of taking them through the Rock Tunnel, the last sign Violet saw had pointed her deeper inside.

"That doesn't seem right," Violet muttered. Thinking back to the signpost, there had been three branching paths (including the path she came from) and it was an arrow pointing towards the path on the right. "If it was spun around, wouldn't the text be upside down?" Directing the question to Pineco, Violet noticed the Bagworm Pokemon pause before nodding.

Immediately stuffing the map back into her pack, the shy girl grabbed Pineco and began to quickly walk back towards the branching pathway. She didn't know who had swapped the signs, but Violet knew she wanted no part of it. Getting lost in a cave system was dangerous, and while she had taken a more adventurous route, it was only by careful and mapping her way through the cave that prevented her from being lost in the Rock Tunnel.

Reaching the branch without further incident, Violet let out a sigh of relief before pausing. Hugging Pineco tighter to her chest, the trainer whispered, "Do you hear that?"

There was a dull humming sound from the branch she had yet to visit, and belatedly a part of Violet's mind remembered that was where the Magnemites were. Swinging her headlamp towards the noise, the light illuminated no less than four Magnemite, three of whom immediately flinched backward at the light, while the fourth twitched. Realizing it was far more experienced than the rest, Violet put down Pineco and took out Dratini's Pokeball.

Gently tossing it in an underhand motion, Violet smiled as the Mirage Pokemon chirped aggressively. Psyching himself up for the battle to come.

The lead Magnemite let out a metallic hum, sparking electricity from the magnets at their side. Behind them, the other three Magnemite let out a more content sound, as if awaiting the winner of the fight.

Violet smirked, grabbing an empty Pokeball from her waist. Tossing it in the air with a hand, she asked, "When we win, can I catch you?"

The Magnemite slowly blinked their singular eye and Violet glanced down as she felt a faint tug. But she was too late to catch her compass as the Magnet Pokemon used its natural ability to drag it towards them. With a contented hum, they looked at the shy girl, and Violet understood perfectly what they were betting.

Narrowing her eyes, Violet swore to herself that she would not make this easy for them. Flickering her eyes back and forth between Dratini and Magnemite, she started to understand the Magnet Pokemon better by the second. It was mischievous, a bit of a thief, and supremely confident. She could use that.

…She was rather glad that the fight took place here rather than in an arena. Because that was not a pretty fight at all. Dragging on for dozens of minutes, Dratini managed to bait Magnemite into a Wrap, after which Violet ordered a mixture of Leers and additional uses of Wrap while the Magnet Pokemon fruitlessly struggled. While it landed a few lucky blows, Violet had noted it had a bad habit of overusing Thunder Shock. And with the position it was in, it had a hard time landing it, even if around 1 in 4 hits landed. All told, by the time the battle ended Dratini was sore but victorious. And Magnemite was supremely annoyed with themselves over how the fight went.

A part of Violet wanted to apologize for the rather one-sided fight, but Magnemite was tired and wanted to rest. Perhaps tomorrow they would be interested in bonding. For now, however, she had a camp to make.

The Eleventh Week, Pick 1

Pokemon Actions
[] Bond with Magnemite - Your newest companion is going to be a bit more complicated than everyone else on the team. You should lay down expectations, both for yourself and for them.

Exploration Actions
[] Crack Caves - A more frightening method of exploration, delving into the narrowest passageways will cause a level of claustrophobia, but ensure Violet explores the most unique habitats.
[] General Exploration - A more responsible approach, exploring natural sidepaths and offshoots will keep Violet safe, but still provide a level of safety.
[] The Signage - Pineco is rather fixated on the sabotaged sign, and Violet knows someone messed with it. Perhaps you can go out of your way to check on the signs present? You feel as if this is just a small part of a much larger plan ...

Traveling Actions (Can Take 1 of These Only)
[X] Continue Traveling - While it may be tempting to stay longer, Violet doesn't want to stay longer than she has to here. It'd be a little unnerving to remain underground for that long, and she can't shake the feeling that she's being watched.

Social Actions (For socials, it's assumed you keep up a basic level of contact through text, choosing a social means I write it up)

[] Call up your parents - Your parents would appreciate a call to congratulate you on your first gym badge. And it's a little scary here.
[] Call Tetsuya - An old childhood friend of yours, the two of you drifted off recently. He has decided to backtrack and head back to Viridian City.
[] Call Willow - The trainer you recently defeated, she seems fun if exhausting. She has been on a lengthy grind in Cerulean City and has had a few adventures.

Kanto Week 11 Part 1 - A Greater Issue
[X] The Signage - Pineco is rather fixated on the sabotaged sign, and Violet knows someone messed with it. Perhaps you can go out of your way to check on the signs present? You feel as if this is just a small part of a much larger plan ...

Violet had been underground for two days now. Walking between marked intersections, the young trainer grew more and more nervous as the number of incorrect signs grew. It wasn't that they were simply flipped or fallen, no, it was that the signs were outright wrong in most cases. Moreover, at one point Violet found a sign that shouldn't even exist. One that pointed trainers into a flooded section of the cave.

She did what she could to correct the signs. Taping notes to the signs themselves warning trainers of the risks at play. Moreover, she found a few such paper notes written by other trainers who had realized the danger. And at this point, Violet knew there was a larger conspiracy at play.

There wasn't any other explanation. Someone out there was planning something, and they didn't care who would get hurt in the process. Violet sent a message to the authorities warning them of it, and it seems that the Kanto League had tasked Misty, the closest gym leader, to investigate. Moreover, they had received a few other reports from concerned trainers exploring the Rock Tunnel, and for the moment only trainers with at least one badge would be allowed in the area.

Partially relieved that there was a plan in place, Violet briefly chatted with Chansey and Magnemite, introducing the two Pokemon together. The Magnet Pokemon was still a bit of a brat, oftentimes grabbing something from Violet until she noticed. However, that behavior was somewhat mitigated by Chansey who was capable of somewhat moderating their temperment. While Violet would have likely managed it better, she wasn't able to provide her latest companion with the attention needed for such an act while she was also in the middle of an investigation.

She had a limited selection of clues. The first clue was that the new signs were all made of similar metal, uniform fonts, and standardized phrases. To Violet, this indicated that it was a large conspiracy, and she had her suspicions that it was Team Rocket. No one else had the resources for it (well, apart from Johto, but tensions had calmed down since the Kanto-Johto War). The second clue was spotting someone involved in the alteration of signs.

It occurred during what would have been night, as even with the relatively short stay, Violet's circadian rhythm was already off. And so she started to awaken at odd hours in the night. During this continued exploration, she heard the distant sound of tools being used and made her way over. Violet expected it to be a trainer trying to set up camp, what she didn't expect was to see someone in an all-black uniform tampering with a sign.

"Hey!" Violet yelled out, throwing out three Pokeballs at once. Dratini, Chansey, and Magnemite emerged, while Pineco remained in her Pokeball, ready to be thrown where she was needed. "What do you think you're doing?!"

The young trainer expected the saboteur to turn around and glance at her, perhaps fight with a Pokemon. What Violet hadn't expected was for them to immediately dart away, sprinting through treacherous terrain at an outright dangerous speed. Seeing this happen, Dratini chirped, instructing Magnemite to follow his lead.

Both Pokemon unleashed Thunder Wave, one notably more polished than the other. However, unexpectedly the saboteur kicked off a wall of the cave, backflipping over one of the electric bolts before tumbling forwards and avoiding the second. The motion was eerily familiar, and Violet's eyes narrowed. "So it was Team Rocket."

Seeing the red R on the across the torso gave it away, but the other clue was the movement to dodge a Thunder Wave. Until now, Violet had only seen one person manage it. "Of course, you're here," D growled out even as she continued sprinting through the cave system, swiftly escaping before Dratini and Magnemite could attack once more.

Realizing what was going on, and understanding that trying to find anyone in a cave system as expansive as the Rock Tunnel would be a doomed effort, Violet elected to begin making her way out of the cave system.

[] Lavender Town - A town home to a significant population of Ghost Pokemon, and one that hosts several radio stations, this is the normal exit most trainers take.
[] Silver Town - A town surrounded by mountains and forests, it contains some unique attractions such as a small Contest Hall. It is a somewhat used exit from the Rock Tunnel.
[] Saffron City - A non-traditional exit from the Rock Tunnel that would require a trip through the sewers, Violet has already been to Saffron City, although there is still a fair bit to see.

Kanto Week 11 Part 2 - Leaving the Dark
[X] Silver Town - A town surrounded by mountains and forests, it contains some unique attractions such as a small Contest Hall. It is a somewhat used exit from the Rock Tunnel.

Making her way to Silver Town, Violet felt a tension within her that she hadn't experienced before. There was something about the possibility of being in the dark with someone she knew wished her ill that made her uneasy. Saying as much to her Pokemon got her a range of responses. Dratini chirped and tried to comfort her, and now rested around her neck ensuring he would be ready to act in a moment's notice. Pineco was more subdued, acknowledging the risk but also pointing out that Violet could easily handle it. Chansey meanwhile seemed to think about it for a bit before saying that Dratini could take care of it. And lastly, Magnemite seemed to find the whole thing overblown, sure there was danger, but that just meant there was an opportunity for adventure … and to mess with people that deserved it. Both were good.

Thankfully, the walk towards one of the cave exits was without excitement. Besides a brief moment where Violet verified that another few signs were altered, she had started to see fewer tampered signposts as she approached the Silver Town exits. She surmised that was due to Team Rocket focusing on ensuring the main routes between Lavender City and the Power Plant were as hard to traverse as possible. By comparison, the Silver Town route was more treacherous, with narrow corridors and multiple snaking pathways that made it tedious to traverse.

But her efforts were rewarded as she exited the cave to the bright afternoon sun. Squinting after being in the dark for so long, Violet decided to wait for a half hour before trying to hike down the mountain. And her patience was rewarded.

Staring down the forested mountains, Violet saw Silver Town below her in its entirety. With a Contest Hall and a small crowd around it, a series of multi-story apartment buildings, and what she thought were generic offices, the small town was truly scenic. Deciding to spend the afternoon camping near the overlook, she let out all four of her Pokemon so that they could appreciate the landscape alongside her.

It was times like this that made her travels worthwhile. Sending a picture to her two friends and family, Violet took a few minutes to chat. Finding that her parents were very happy that she was out of the dark cave, and asking if she planned to arrive in Saffron City soon. Tetsuya was a bit more animated, claiming that he had figured out a few new tricks and he'd earn his second badge soon. And lastly was Willow, who proclaimed that she would be challenging Misty once more before she left Cerulean City.

Having fulfilled her social obligations for the week, Violet looked down on the town and wondered what she would do.

Kanto Week 12 Part 1 - Tense Talks
[x] Call up your parents - Your parents are rather worried about you due to some news about the Rock Tunnel.

Reading through the messages from her parents, Violet recognized that they were scared and worried. A part of her whispered they should say it, rather than implying it and hoping she picked up on it. But it was nothing new, people were annoying in that sense.

Pressing the number for her home, it rang once before being picked up instantly by her dad. "Violet?" He asked worriedly. "Are you out of the Rock Tunnel?"

Violet nodded once as she responded, "Yeah, I sent you pictures."

"That's good," she heard a sigh of relief from the other side of the phone. "It's not safe there anymore, Team Rocket has been meddling in that area."

The shy girl felt herself freeze, bringing her free arm to her chest as if hugging herself. Should she tell her dad she was involved in that? Of her battles with Team Rocket. "I-I heard."

She didn't do any of that, if she did, her parents would take a train to Silver Town immediately. Regardless of how it would affect their careers. "It's good to stay informed, have you been reading the articles I've sent you?"

Violet blushed red, her dad's articles were … Well, they were sometimes useful. But she found them dull and dry to read. She much preferred articles targeted towards Pokemon trainers rather than normal adults, they were always more exciting. "Sometimes?" She asked more than said. "I liked the ones about the Cerulean Caves."

"I'm glad." She heard her dad's smile through the phone. "You caught your Chansey there didn't you?"

She nodded, flushing red as she realized what she just did. "Ye-Yeah." She stuttered. "She's nice and likes dancing."

Chansey gestured for the phone and Violet briefly extended it so her voice could be heard through it. With an exclamation of "Chansey," the Egg Pokemon clarified that she was a very good dancer.

"Hello to you as well," her dad said, clearly not understanding what Chansey said, but unwilling to ask for clarification.

"Is mom there?" Violet asked instead of pressing her dad on his incorrect assumption. People didn't like being corrected, she learned that long ago. Even if they would thank you for it, their eyes and tone always gave away their annoyance.

"She is," her dad said, not picking up on Violet trying to shift the conversation. "Let me just …"

Violet heard her dad walking around their house, calling for her mother. After a few seconds, her mom came to the phone. "Hi, mom."

"Violet," her mother greeted. "Are you going to be headed to Lavender Town? It's very dangerous there."

"What's happening in Lavender Town?" Violet asked, she'd heard of a trainer mobilization in the area and was strongly considering going. But information was sparse and her searches on the internet had produced little beyond it being related to Team Rocket.

"It's terrible Violet," her mother began. "Team Rocket is attacking trainers in the Rock Tunnel daily, and the league is gathering forces to respond."

"O-oh," she said simply. "W-well, Gym Leader Misty was headed to the other side of the tunnel, she should be there now."

"Good," she heard a sigh of relief from her mother. "She's a good trainer, maybe not the best in the league, but certainly good enough to handle this."

"Willow said she was traveling with her," Violet added abruptly. She had only learned of it recently when her rival stated she would make sure her second gym badge would be the Cascade Badge. And so, when she had learned Misty was going to the Rock Tunnel to secure it, Willow decided she would go with her.

"Are you thinking of heading to Lavender Town?" Her mother asked disapprovingly, making Violet tense up.

"I was going to be spending time with Magnemite," Violet deflected, glancing over at the Magnet Pokemon, who had perked up the moment she mentioned their name. "They're … unique."

"Violet…" her mother trailed off, having noticed the attempt at deflection. "You aren't thinking of going to Lavender Town, are you?"

"I'll be safe," Violet curled in on herself, hating this conversation with a passion. "I-I've beaten Team Rocket twice now."

"You know that's not what I'm worried about," her mother stated, understanding the level of perception Violet was capable of. And the shy girl didn't have a reply to that. Her parents were worried about her, and chasing after a Team was dangerous. But she couldn't just let Team Rocket do as they wished without consequences. And while it might be arrogance, she could make a difference.

"I-I can make a difference," Violet said with quiet conviction. "I-I'm a good trainer."

Her mother let out a long sigh, causing the shy girl to freeze up and sweat. She hadn't been this nervous in her gym battle with Misty, not when fighting Team Rocket, and not when traversing the Rock Tunnel. It was only when one of her family members felt she had given the wrong answer that she felt like this. "Just-" Her mother cut herself off, thinking better of whatever she was about to say. "I … I know you can make a difference Violet. But your father and I care more about you than anything else."

Violet remained silent, not wanting to speak as some of the tension drained from her. "Thanks," she murmured.

"We love you, Violet, I know you can hear the truth in my voice." Despite herself, a small smile flickered onto the shy girl's face. She knew it was true. From the pitch of her mother's voice to the nearly imperceptible emotions coloring her words, Violet knew above all else that her parents loved her dearly. And even if their love could feel suffocating at times, she knew that they tried.

"I love you too," Violet said as she hung up. Letting out a breath, she looked over at her Pokemon, where Dratini lay napping, Pineco was critiquing Chansey's dance moves, and Magnemite looked at her with a bored expression.

The Magnet Pokemon hummed mischievously as Violet narrowed her eyes, realizing what they were about to do.

"Don't-" The word was scarcely out of her mouth before Magnemite used its natural magnetism to grab a random metallic object from her bag and forcing her to chase after them. Regardless of what she did after this, it helped distract Violet from the tense phone call she just had.

Now she just had to figure out how to handle Magnemite and their … everything

[] Set Boundaries - Allowing Magnemite's mischievous behavior in more productive manners will mean they remain a constant source of challenge for Violet. But also that they will be the happiest. Dratini likes this option.
[] Temper Magnemite - Trying to teach Magnemite how other people feel when they mess with them won't be difficult. For all their faults, Magnemite doesn't like inflicting suffering. Teaching them how to predict consequences would be fairly straightforward. Pineco likes this option.

Kanto Week 12 Part 2 - Meet Magnemite
[x] Set Boundaries - Allowing Magnemite's mischievous behavior in more productive manners will mean they remain a constant source of challenge for Violet. But also that they will be the happiest. Dratini likes this option.

"Magnemite," Violet began, absentmindedly adjusting her hat, "do you want to do something?"

The Magnet Pokemon looked at her suspiciously, humming a nonchalant, ambiguous response that was hard to call an actual agreement or disagreement. Instead, it came across more as waffling.

"Well, I was pretty busy in the Rock Tunnel with the signs…" Violet hesitated, "And I haven't gotten to know you yet."

Magnemite visibly tilted in the air, as if wondering how complex they were at heart. Letting out a confused hum, the Pokemon's words caused Violet to sigh.

"You're not just a prankster," Violet explained. "You had a group in that cave, they got along with you for reasons beyond messing with others."

The Magnet Pokemon disagreed and showed their disagreement by grabbing a random object from Violet's belt using their magnetism. Then it hummed, explaining that no, that's exactly why they got along. They messed with each other as much as they messed with others.

Violet glanced down, recognizing that a rather smug Magnemite was now in possession of her survival knife. This was going to be a much harder conversation than she initially thought. "Magnemite," she said with disapproval in her tone, "I believe you did prank your friends as well. But … there were lines you didn't cross, weren't there?"

The mischievous Pokemon shook their body, indicating no, there were no such lines. They just did whatever came naturally to them. If there was something that would be fun for the group, they'd do it.

Violet gave a smug smile. "Oh? Is that so?" She said as if Magnemite had just proved her point.

They looked at her with extreme suspicion, very slowly nodding yes. That was so.

In a manner more fitting for Willow than it was for Violet, the shy girl twirled a finger through her hair, never dropping her smug smile. "You said fun for the group, not fun for you~"

Magnemite tried to play it cool as if that was just a slip of the tongue or Violet not understanding the context. But the young trainer was nothing if not perceptive and caught the telltale signs of the Pokemon trying to shift the conversation.

"So you do care," Violet teased, finding a newfound confidence when it came to Pokemon that she didn't know she had. "Just remember that some pranks won't be fun for the group. There are some lines you shouldn't cross."

The Magnet Pokemon grumbled, saying that it knew the difference between pranks and bullying. One was funny, the other was just mean.

Violet agreed, but there was more to it than just that. "I know you're not mean Magnemite, otherwise you wouldn't have fought Dratini one on one. But sometimes people think they're being funny when they're just being mean." She'd seen it before, other kids calling her mute or calling the new kid weird. Some of them were trying to be mean, but others were doing it to draw them in with humor never realizing that words could cut deeply. And trying to bring that up after the words were said usually made people irrationally defensive.

Magnemite didn't seem to grasp her meaning, humming at her with a confused expression. How could a prank intended for fun be mean?

Violet knew how to respond. Bringing out her phone, she began surfing the Internet, bringing up a prank channel. "Some other people think the same." She pressed play, letting Magnemite take it in.

It took a few minutes for the so-called prank to unfold, during which a rather annoyed Magnemite hummed angrily, calling the hosts idiots and fools who had no understanding of what pranking meant. But it seemed to get Violet's point across, and over the next hour, the two of them discussed what boundaries could and couldn't be crossed.

There would be no pranks in dangerous situations or in Pokemon battles, nor would there be any actual theft. Both of which Magnemite would have agreed to before the conversation. But now the Magnet Pokemon would also avoid pranks that'd cause some degree of public response or embarrass someone heavily. They still didn't quite understand embarrassment as a concept, or at least didn't internalize it. But at this point, they were well enough behaved that Violet could trust them.

The Thirteenth Week, Pick 1

Pokemon Actions

[-] Catch a fifth Pokemon - Now that your team has its core members, a fifth and sixth member would be useful and have more possible options. However, it's quite early for that. Locked.
[] Bond with Magnemite - While Magnemite is better behaved, and has been improving, it may be worthwhile spending time to accelerate their empathic growth.
[] Train with your Pokemon - All of your Pokemon are good in a battle, and each has unique skills. Training for a few days would help them grow.

Battling Actions

[] Challenge New Trainers - Now that you and your Pokemon had developed, fighting a few trainers in succession was doable.
[] Challenge an Experienced Trainer - Some trainers in the area have a badge, beating them may be a good experience.
[] Participate in a Contest Battle - You don't want to do this, the sheer level of attention would be nerve-wracking. But Dratini really wants to …

Exploration Actions (New)

[] See the sights in the Area - Silver Town has a few unique attractions such as the Contest Hall and a few desolate forested pathways. Exploring these areas will be fun.
[] Explore Unorthodox Locations - Exploring the cave system north of Silver Town is something you could do. Even if it would be scary.

[-] Travel to Saffron City - Backtracking to Saffron City would let you think about challenging Sabrina. However, your parents would drive to visit you, and you would have to meet them.
[-] Travel to Lavender Town - A town famous for its ghost Pokemon, it's also now the site of a large mobilization of trainers due to a local emergency. If you head out now, you could make it.
[-] Travel to Vermillion City - A popular seaport for Kanto, frequented by visitors and merchants from Johto. There are a number of regular ferries in the city.
[-] Travel towards Fuchsia City - A longer trip that would be spread over weeks, heading south would keep Violet away from civilization for longer than she has been before.
[-] Travel to Write-in - There are many locations in Kanto one could take a direct route towards.

Social Actions (For socials, it's assumed you keep up a basic level of contact through text, choosing a social means I write it up)

[] Call up your parents - Your parents were very happy you called, but they would enjoy further talks with you.
[] Call Tetsuya - An old childhood friend of yours, the two of you drifted off recently. He is headed back to Celadon City when it became clear the Viridian City gym wasn't reopening anytime soon.
[] Call Willow - The trainer you recently defeated, she seems fun if exhausting. She is heavily involved in Electricville, having become embroiled in Team Rocket's largest operation since their takeover of Silph-Co.

Kanto Week 13 Part 1 - Brittle Nerves
[X] Participate in a Contest Battle - You don't want to do this, the sheer level of attention would be nerve-wracking. But Dratini really wants to …

Violet shuffled nervously, thinking through the routine Dratini and her had worked on over the past few days. It was rough, unpolished, and more than a little haphazard. She involved Chansey in the process as well, which helped refine some of the dance steps in between, but Violet couldn't help but feel clunky and awkward whenever she practiced.

She didn't want to join the Contest Battle, but Dratini had looked at her with such pleading eyes … And then Chansey joined in. Violet had glanced at Pineco and Magnemite for support, but the former was just amused and the latter hummed and hoped it would be recorded. Violet immediately blushed at the realization that it almost certainly would be. By Arceus, she'd have to send footage of it to her parents! They'd be ecstatic to see it but it would be mortifying.

Violet's initial plan was to finish integrating Magnemite into her team, but at this point, she was committed. After signing up for the Performance Stage, she couldn't back out anymore. Slapping her face with both hands in an effort to psyche herself up, Violet forced a deep exhale. "It'll … it'll be alright." She whispered to herself, wishing that she could start the performance off with Dratini at her side.

The Contest Hall was smaller than she expected, with only around two hundred members in the audience. Pokemon Contests had yet to take off in the Kanto Region, being far more common in other regions. Silver Town was one of the rare exceptions, being largely subsidized by income from Contest Battles outside the region. But the organizers weren't willing to give up on spreading this type of battle to Kanto, and as such had been conducting a long advertising campaign which was slowly beginning to have some success as revenue had been increasing over time.

Violet looked up as the first participant began their performance, and almost immediately regretted it. There are special Pokeballs for contests? She should have done more research instead of asking the Pokemon Store if they had anything for contests. Maybe they weren't offered in Kanto? Forcing herself to pay more attention, Violet blushed as she realized her initial thoughts were incorrect. The Pokeball was normal, it was just stylized. She must have been more nervous than she thought if she missed that.

Taking a calming breath, Violet shrunk in on herself, trying to make herself seem smaller. Her heart raced in her chest, her palms grew sweaty, and it grew far harder to concentrate on the performance in front of her. Violet's mind kept going towards worst-case scenarios. What if she tripped and embarrassed herself? What if she froze up on stage? She was going to freeze up, wasn't she? Someone glanced at her and said something vaguely soothing before their turn was up. She wasn't really paying attention.

Violet suddenly flinched backward, feeling a sharp gaze upon her. Broken out of her waking nightmare, she heard Dratini call out to her worryingly.

"When … when did …?" Violet clammed up and blushed, realizing that most of the room was trying and failing to stealthily watch what was happening.

Dratini forced himself into her lap, curling around himself and rubbing her hand trying to calm Violet down. Don't worry, he seemed to say. Everything was going to work out.

The shy girl looked around her, then to the contest currently active. There she saw a Fearow actively using Sunny Day and Rain Dance to create a mist-like effect to enhance the beauty of its various aerial maneuvers, all the while their trainer and Pokemon moved in tune with the music. How was it going to work out if that was her competition?!

Violet suppressed a yelp as she felt an electric shock from Dratini who was looking at her with a cross expression. She was a great trainer! And his best friend! Sure she may not have been in a Contest Battle before, but neither had he. Right now, Violet was her own worst enemy. So what if they didn't win? He didn't care about winning here (not yet anyway), he just wanted to show off. But, if she wasn't ready, they could do it another day.

The shy girl blushed at the praise, just as the audience burst into applause as Fearow's performance ended. She felt her nerves ease up, she could rely on Dratini for this. Even if she froze, he could carry the performance for her. Unknown to Violet, a genuine smile appeared on her face, as she uttered three words from the very bottom of her heart. "Thank you Dratini."

She was up next and decided that this time she wouldn't worry about starting to contest off with Dratini in his Pokeball. That would be for next time when the two of them would be better prepared. Today … today this was just for fun.

Violet thought it was a beautiful routine. There was raw, unfiltered passion in Dratini's performance. Despite her oldest companion's pep talk, her performance was still stilted and hesitant, but it was leagues above what she had feared. Dratini opened with a Leer, forcing the audience and judges to look at him as he segwayed into an undulating pattern using a series of altered Wraps to move vaguely in tune with the music. Then Violet shifted the moment, calling for the Mirage Pokemon to use Thunder Wave and Twister, causing an indoor storm in the arena that crackled ominously.

It wasn't a performance anyone would have expected from Violet or Dratini. It was intimidating, direct, and blunt. The moves Dratini knew suited it well, but compared to some of the other participants, it wasn't at the level needed to secure a pass to the second round.

For their first performance, it was excellent and well-managed, but the judges voiced their criticisms as well. While they acknowledged that it was well-choreographed for an amateur, they explained that it lacked an introduction, beginning with Leer was a bold move that was too aggressive for the moment. Moreover, the use of Wrap, while creative, had several timing issues, with the judges indicating that Dratini and Violet should have synchronized their dance moves during this moment better. Lastly, the indoor thunderstorm did present a spectacle, but it didn't flow with the rest of the performance. Moreover, there were elements that the duo could have added to spice up the performance more. Perhaps Dratini could have used Thunder Wave during the undulating Wraps for instance. They were good suggestions and ones Violet would have to take into account in the future.

For now, however, she was feeling a little restless. And felt the urge to head to other areas.

Traveling Actions, Pick 1
[] Travel to Saffron City - Backtracking to Saffron City would let you think about challenging Sabrina. However, your parents would drive to visit you, and you would have to meet them.
[] Travel to Lavender Town - A town famous for its ghost Pokemon, it's also now the site of a large mobilization of trainers due to a local emergency. A series of battles have occurred, with Team Rocket being pushed back through the Rock Tunnel, but the trainers are being held off by a blockade near Electricville.

Kanto Week 13 Part 2 - A Journey Through the Mountains
[X] Travel to Electricville - It's unorthodox, but there are alternative routes to Electricville as well. Violet's trip to a peak that could see Electricville and the Power Plant helped show this. Heading directly there to help out with the Pokemon emergency

The path to Electricville was unique. Due to the closure of the Rock Tunnel for trainers with under 6 badges, Violet had to charge a route herself through the mountains. Initially, she had thought about relying on her current maps, but a brief exchange with her parents led to her mom sending a set of topographical maps of the area. Violet had blushed at that exchange, but she couldn't deny that the high-fidelity maps were extremely helpful.

The trailblazing involved a series of hikes with significant elevation changes, but there was no true rock climbing involved. Instead, Violet found herself in the enviable position of camping atop mountains and valleys, with her favorite being the camp she made on the second day of her travel. Atop one of the many peaks that made up the mountain range above the Rock Tunnel, the shy girl had realized that she was at the highest point for miles around. When combined with the setting sun, Violet made her decision to stay in the scenic location and spent time with her Pokemon as usual.

Pineco was glad for it. Looking down at the world around her, the Bagworm Pokemon appeared utterly serene as she tried to determine what exactly was out there. After a few minutes of this, Violet tapped Pineco's head, before handing her the Pokedex with the maps her parents had sent. This caused Pineco to entirely focus on sight-seeing, leaving Violet to simply look on amused at her Pokemon's behavior.

Dratini and Chansey spent hours playing, the two of them chasing each other around the area (even if Dratini had to go easy on his playmate). It was adorable, and Violet made sure to send a picture to her friends and family. Which did get her some responses. Tetsuya had just returned to Celadon City and was planning on heading to Saffron City. He only stopped in the area to visit his family. Willow on the other hand was more exciting, with the energetic trainer explaining that Team Rocket was trying to shut down the Power Plant entirely which would plunge Kanto into a state of darkness for weeks. Perhaps even months if Johto decided to add some political pressure should they deem it in their interests.

Team Rocket would have to be stopped! Violet thought to herself. While much of the battle at play was hinged on Gym Leader Misty's Pokemon holding a chokepoint at the Rock Tunnel, significant progress was being made by the trainers at Lavender Town. They had managed to push through much of the Rock Tunnel and were only a few days from being able to strike Team Rocket from the rear. Unfortunately, there were still multiple more difficult pathways they could take in the Rock Tunnel, which had led to several off-angle assaults on the Power Plant both through blending in with civilians in Electricville and through several mountaineering raids.

Violet turned towards a somewhat sullen Magnemite who was currently holding her lighter. She thought it was a bit amusing for a way to mess with her, as the Magnet Pokemon expected her to enter a game of tag with them. They were a little disappointed that she had responded by using her backup matches. "Do you still want to play?" She asked, to which the Magnet Pokemon enthusiastically nodded.

This was followed by an hour of the two chasing each other around, using the lighter as a baton to hand over each time they caught the other. Surprisingly, Violet was faster, more agile, and had higher endurance. Something which embarrassed Magnemite considerably. Thankfully for the Magnet Pokemon, the trainer wasn't the type of person to rub it in, choosing to lighten up on her performance during the game. While it was clear to observers (Pineco) that Violet was letting Magnemite catch and evade her at times, no one said anything about it. And the game ended with one very happy Electric Pokemon.

Reaching Electricville in the mid-afternoon, Violet was struck by the sheer difference in tone that was present when she had been here a mere three weeks prior. Rather than the light-hearted feeling of a small town, she was greeted by the worry of a populace under siege. Raids from Team Rocket had been happening daily, with groups of 3-4 trainers wreaking havoc before running away. A few individuals had been calling for the Elite 4 to be called in, but it seemed that Misty's presence and the seemingly inevitable victory had prevented that from going through.

Adjusting her hat, Violet looked at the situation and made her decision.

The Fourteenth Week, Pick 1

Battling Actions

[] Guard the Power Plant - You will face small groups of 1-2 skilled Team Rocket trainers who make use of the mountains to get close. Expect the fights to be quick, but brutal.
[] Roam the Mountains - Roaming the mountains to slow the flow of Team Rocket trainers to the area is more dangerous due to the risk of being ambushed. But with your perception, the risk is minimized.
[] Police Electricville - Assisting Officer Jenny, this will involve short, sharp battles against 3-4 trainers at once but reinforcements will arrive within minutes.
[] Battle inside the Tunnel - A risky proposition and one where you will face trainers far above your skill level, it is nonetheless the most critical front.

Social Actions (For socials, it's assumed you keep up a basic level of contact through text, choosing a social means I write it up)

[X] Meet Willow - The trainer you recently defeated, she seems fun if exhausting. She was going to meet you without giving you a chance to reject, but thankfully she held herself back and asked. You suppose you have time to meet her.
