Hmm for the alchemy stuff, the map would be useful to have and maybe get upgraded into glasses so that it can be a HUD minimap.

The Boots will be useful in sneaking around and hiding in ceilings. Ninjas hide in high places because humans naturally don't look above 45 degrees so having those boots would mean that he can reach high places and hide indoors or in the wilderness. But there is most likely a charm for that already and we could just learn that.

For the Gloves, I feel like it would be a useful insurance in case of emergency situation. We could maybe upgrade it to be full body protection and be able to Accio our wand in case it got expeliarmused but we could learn an alternative method to defend ourselves by learning Apparition like what Papa did and avoid magic spells that way and have much more utility.

So for the Alchemy vote I think the map is the only one without a better alternative we could learn anyway so I'll pick that.

For the Spells I am split between Avifors and Flipendo. Avivors would be a good offensive spell if we can make Eagles and have them attack with their razor sharp claws. But Flipendo would have much more utility if we can experiment to get it to not only push but also pull, or curve around objects, or when it hits an object have it be pushed in a different direction. Turning Flipendo into a more complicated telekinesis would make it very unpredictable to our enemies and open up a lot of utility if we can customized its force, direction, and orientation.

That it is explicitly an one-time deal reinforces my preference for the boots. If it is not chosen now, the opportunity will not come again.

[ ] Flipendo (Deep Understanding) - Charm. With an advanced understanding of this spell, you are not only limited to knock over an opponent or object anymore, but to create a mighty force push instead. This is beyond what is usually expected out of the simple jinx.

This looks like the first step to

ALMIGHTY PUSH!

That was a great chapter. Looks like the Flamels are wrapping things up in Spain. They may actually decide to pass on or they may be planning to start afresh somewhere else. Whatever it is we certainly won't know.

The gloves are a great insurance to have. The process of creating something like that would be a great learning opportunity.

As far as spells go, I am inclined towards Avifors or Expelliarmus. Both are pretty cool.

ouch.

The one time deal makes the choice harder but ultimately we're still at the same issue, if we take the boots and end up with two 400 DC projects neither of them will be done in the next two years unless we make a very hard sustained push and getting both of them done would be unlikely before year 5 at the earliest.

Getting either done this year is categorically impossible unless we want to have no actions left over for anything other than needed potions and spells and it would also mean sacrificing any chance of winning the duelling tournament.

It is a bit rough, but some long term projects would be good for Jacob.

Isn't making the map a normal action where we could do multiple stacks?

Its shame that it is one time deal.

We already have 3 different high DC alchemist project after not even half a year. And it seems to me that Tabula rasa is pretty generous in giving us different projects that we can focus on.

We do not need to complete everything, and neither of the two seems to be something that we desperately need.

My thoughts on my favored options.

[ ] Flipendo (Deep Understanding) - Charm. With an advanced understanding of this spell, you are not only limited to knock over an opponent or object anymore, but to create a mighty force push instead. This is beyond what is usually expected out of the simple jinx.
- you could defend against thrown objects or transfigured animals by blasting them away from you
- you could use it offensively by directly attacking your opponent or by enhancing/accelerating something else

[ ] Expelliarmus (Deep Understanding) - DADA. The Disarming Charm, is a defensive spell which forces the victim to release whatever they were holding at the time. It is common to see this spell used in duels, to make an opponent release their wand. Only for those with a deep understanding is it possible to throw the enemy back at the same time.
- excellent nonlethal way to end a fight
- is it necessary to blast an opponent way when you already took his wand away?

[ ] Avifors (Deep Understanding)Transfiguration. A transforming spell that could be used to change the target into a bird, flock of birds or occasionally a flock of bats with a vivid flash of blue light. Transforms the targeted object into a bird, which can then be used to carry a small object or message to someone. With the deep understand you have gained, it is possible for you to guide the birds with new orders, even after having cast the spell.
- excellent way to defend against spells (curses); just guide a bird into the path of an incoming spell. Should even work on Unforgivables.
- offensively, just watch Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds

[ ] An old Idea of a Map – You had the idea of creating a Map of Hogwarts to track the hidden secrets you uncovered and reveal the people that move on its ground. With a mind as great as Nicolas, you can try to start this project earlier than you had planned out. (Lower the DC from 400 to 100.)
- we could go a lot of trouble out of the way, we could always have a quiet corner for ourselves
- almost (tentively) in reach

[ ] Shoes, I want Shoes – While you do not own a broom, it is a practical thing to conquer the sky's. Try to start the process of enchanting your shoes with the help of Nicolas. You will not be able to soar and fly through the sky, but to step on it as if on ground. This will open up many new possibilities for you. (Add new Alchemy Idea 'Talaria' to your Notebook.)
- we could walk literally anywhere, we could walk up the Hogwarts' Great Hall ceiling if we wanted to
- opens up a new dimension during a duel
- would be quite the sight to see Jacob disregard the Hogwarts stairs entirely

For me the main options that catch my interest are the boots and the gloves. Both are one time offers and we can already do the map via our student actions. It's just going to take longer than it would otherwise. While the boots may be good for air combat and exploration I am partial to the gloves for a very specific reason. It's unexpected and it gives us a further edge in combat, and if we want to stick with dueling after this year then we can come back next year with a new trick up our sleeves. The boots are fine, adding a new dimension to exploration and dueling, but flying spells do exist. even if they are difficult to learn. The easier option atm is probably to use a broom, and even then we have found nowhere we need to explore that a broom can not reach. Also, we can probably buy a broom provided we make a bit more money in case we don't want to ask our parents for one.

Having the ability to create an item that can negate lethal damage, no matter its form once will be very very good when we get into more dangerous duels. Catching a spell and then responding with our own may give us the element of surprise since as far as I am aware, nothing like the gloves currently exists. Hence why the QM stated this was a one-time thing. Also, when it comes to the crafting of the gloves I assume that our gloves would recharge the effect rather than us being forced to make a new pair so that means we would have one "ignore a lethal blow" card in what I assume to be every fight. Which can buy us more time during a dangerous duel so we can escape or help us turn the tide of the duel in our favor.

For a moment you saw Isabella Cortez before you, an eighteen-year-old girl, who had struggled against her fate, fighting herself to a bit of wealth in a different continent and who had fallen head over heels for a boy two years older than her.
Suddenly, I understand why my little sister squirms so much when reading her romance novels.
We need an omake for this, stat!
[ ] Incendio (Deep Understanding)Transfiguration. The Fire-Making Spell can be used to conjure a jet of orange and red flame. Thereby this spell can be used to set things alight. Where you would usually expect a small flame, you are able to cast out a fireball as big as a head, roaring through the air and able to cause significant damage.
I CAST FIREBALL

My personal preference is between Flipendo and Reparo. Flipendo because semi-telekinesis is generally quite useful, Reparo for obvious reasons. It states that our repairs will occur in "the blink of an eye," e.g very very quickly, and there's a surprisingly large amount of options that opens up (repairing walls for quick defense is more viable, our Spongify-Flipendo-Reparo combo is faster and harder to dodge, etc).

In regards to the alchemy, a "get out of jail free" card is an absolute no-brainer. The Hogwarts map is only useful so long as we remain in Hogwarts, and while it's generally good utility, I am of the belief that the extra chance we get if we fuck up once is just too damn good to pass up on. I mean, really; think about it for a second. Later on in Jacob's life, when duels/fights to the death happen more often, (assuming we are unable to stop Voldemort's rise to power, and I can't really see why we could) a rechargeable automatic counterspell would be an absolute godsend. Heck, not only does it protect against spells, but against venom and "direct attacks" as well.

Moratorium is over, I think?
[X] Reparo (Deep Understanding) Charm. The Mending Charm, also known as the Repairing Charm, is a charm that can be used to seamlessly repair a broken object and works on most materials. This useful charm was invented by Orabella Nuttley, in or before 1754. There aren't many things with too heavy a damage or that are simply too large for you to not be able to repair them as swift as a blink of the eye by now.

[X] Flipendo (Deep Understanding) - Charm. With an advanced understanding of this spell, you are not only limited to knock over an opponent or object anymore, but to create a mighty force push instead. This is beyond what is usually expected out of the simple jinx.

[X] Gloves, I want Gloves – You have many plans of doing things that may be dangerous, and while you are no one to recoil from simple risks like that, it may be wise to get one measure security before that happens. While it may be too much to aim for eternal defenses, it should be possible to create something that can guard you once from a spell, a venom or a similar direct attack that would otherwise kill or maim you. (Add new Alchemy Idea 'Járnglófar' to your Notebook.)

Okay working out what we'd need mechanics wise to get the map done if the map actions to make it are standard rather than personal.

We need D+ alchemy.

We are currently T
T -> D+ = 4 personal actions taken.

Making this back to taking 8 personal actions assuming we get no boost to our skills during the holiday scenes.

I am not afraid of dying – It is not that you don't fear; you are not a Gryffindor. You feel terror and experience fear just as anyone else. But you are not afraid of dying. There is no reason to be afraid of the unavoidable. You will live your life to the fullest and answer as many of the questions that linger on your mind as you can. But when it is time… you will smile and go.
Ahh I get it. Not being afraid of dying isn't the same thing as not being afraid of death.

Ok I want to go with Flipendo since it will be a huge help in dueling and plays into Jacob's ability to use spells in new and creative ways. As for the alchemy project these is a one time deal. Also no matter what we choose we will have to spend about 8 actions at least to get Alchemy high enough to work on May of the projects.

Yeah, by the time we would need such a defense we should be proficient enough with our wand to do just the same.
And the map isn't a one-time deal, which means Jacob can enjoy exploring the castle the traditional way for a bit longer.

I'm honestly undecided regarding our spells and fine with each of them, but Avifors has a certain versatility compared to the rest. A corporal defense against dangerous spell-fire, a potent offensive move to harass the opponent and uses not just restricted to dueling.

[X] Avifors (Deep Understanding)Transfiguration. A transforming spell that could be used to change the target into a bird, flock of birds or occasionally a flock of bats with a vivid flash of blue light. A flock of birds that can be a shield and a distraction will be useful in a fight and can be our specialty. Maybe give those birds explosive potion vials?

Naruto has shown me the advantage of being able to walk on walls and I think it would be cool to read a book while upside down to troll the others.
