Jacob's well on the way to becoming a Dark Wizard.

Not a Dark Lord, just think of how many people you have to interact with to rule a country!

No, one of those reclusive master wizards hiding away from the world somewhere probing into dark secrets, leaving behind records and journals that some aspiring mage will find in the future and either use to become a Dark Lord or to do great and wonderful things with in time. One of those types.

I'm of the opinion that those are best when they are closer to morally gray. The type of morally gray that generate 20+ page forum arguments when you learn their complicated lore through little tidbits.

Unfortunately that also necessitates some interaction with the world and people. If only so we can scatter the little bits of lore into the worldbuilding.

A sign with heavy meaning, something any wizarding child would understand as a life-debt freely given. It started to sink in that there would be no anger to expect from him. No one would take it onto themselves to call you out on your failures.

His action aroused anger in you, that you had been failing to suppress. You had tried to see only the good deeds, the success of yesternight, but the only thing that was standing out in all of this was the catastrophic failures. You had lost to Pettigrew.

He had beaten you completely. All past versions of yourself had lost against all past versions of him. You had given it your all and still lost. The Time Turner that you had used for your loops was distinct from Grangers. You were not sure were your past-version had brought it in from, but it was a clear sign that it had been difficult to acquire. This was the best you had been able to do across unlimited resolution loops.

And you had lost. In the end had it not been for Professor Snapes help, your attempts would have been futile. Even with his help, Harry had been bitten and you had nothing to show for it. The Dementors had been used as captured slaves for unspeakable deeds and the rat was gone, without giving you any answers directly.

You slapped Harry's hand away carelessly when you answered: "I clearly failed. So, don't thank me."
This miscommunication is interesting given that Harry was unintentionally saying he owed Jacob his life but Jacob got pissed because he feels like he's partly responsible for Harry getting turned. Maybe Sirius can fill Harry in on the subtext he missed because I think this is the kind of thing he would mention to Sirius.

Absolutely amazing chapter, the fights were awesome and some of the best in the quest so far for sure. The applications of the spells were all super creative as well. Besides that, Jacob losing was for the better he does needed to be humbled a bit. I think this was good for him.

You made your way down the spiral staircase towards the entrance of the common room, but were surprised to find Luna Lovegood standing in front of the exit and looking up at you, as if she had been waiting for you.
This scene was amazing, I think Jacob is one of the few people that actually understands Luna and how she thinks and she's one of the few people who would get him. I honestly want her to be our adventuring partner going forward, I think it'd be absolutely fascinating.

Harry's face crossed into a state of confusion for one second, before looking over at you. It took him a moment, before the smile returned on his face. "Wow, that's amazing Luna. Thank you for showing it to me." He struggled to move up in his position but failed.
I really liked the conversation with Harry. Little worried about just how vengeful Jacob is towards Peter, but if a dementor happens to kill him while we're there to exterminate the pests then there was nothing we could do.

Also we made the better map, get fucked Marauders!

There are many things for you to do this summer! Chose 3 actions out of the following for the first month of summer vacation. Usual monthly planning is suspended due to follow-up effects of the obsession trait. Jacob will take time to relax. You will have most unused choices (and some additional options) in the second month.

I'm happy that the mum, dad and Nicholas vote is winning, those are the ones I want to go for the most as well.

The mum vote is obviously going to be socials where we'll hopefully get some progress so that Jacob isn't so... Jacob.

The dad vote I think will be more exploratory in nature, Nicholas is obsessing over stuff in his old age and probably needs specific materials so either meeting up with contacts or (hopefully) going to collect the matieral's personally out of interesting places.

Nicholas vote will obviously be something alchemy related and I'm very interested to see what he's trying to bang out in his final days. No doubt it'll be something amazing.

So for the votes next month I'll want to do another Nicholas vote if there is one and the apparation one. The former because Nicholas is awesome and the latter because being able to teleport is a very useful skill and would be a good place to start with picking up some magic from the house elves. It'll likely have the benefit of upping our charms skill becuase we need A- to train it and we're currently at P+ but that's a minor note at best.

All in all, I'm very excited to see how the next couple months play out.

[..] being able to teleport is a very useful skill and would be a good place to start with picking up some magic from the house elves.
That's a bold assumption, I feel like? Unless I'm forgetting something I don't think there's any reason to assume apparition would have anything to do with learning house elf magic.

Is there something I've missed or forgotten in the quest that would point to that being the case?

We had a roll earlier in the quest to see if we learnt anything from Nelly but failed.

What I was trying to (badly) say was that their magic is very obviously different and the most obvious was is that they can apparate in Hogwarts and through wards. So if we want to learn how to use house elf magic, learning to apparate and then finding out the difference would be a good place to start.

Learning that difference will probably help us learn something that we can translate to other spells.

Hey, that is not going Dark Wizard... That is entering a "Crazy Hermit" mode...

*points to 'everything lurking about with sharp fangs must be deaded or made a minion' bit*

EDIT: And with that I just thought of the most horrifying spell possible Jacob could develop, turning people into something far worse than dementors.

I've not had time to read the discussion just yet, but I had a thought I don't want to forget... what if we try to work with Nicolas on creating a cure for the werewolf curse? It is something that I could see catching Nicolas' attention and could perhaps even be doable if wolfsbane potion was used as a base from which to work. Not sure how much of help we could be for it, but we could definitely learn stuff just by helping him with minor stuff, like potion preparation.

On a side note @Tabula Rasa would it be possible for us to get a list of known social connections? It is becoming challenging to keep track of which people we know and which we don't, and how close we are. Just general info would be useful.

@Tabula Rasa can we invite Harry Potter? :V
I included the list of candidates that Jacob would feel comfortable about inviting. It is a very short list. Jacob wanted to include fewer names than this, but I told him that the voices in his head would be very upset about too much limitation.

This was our middleground.

This was a great chapter to end the book and I really enjoyed reading all of it. I don't usually enjoy reading combat scenes (shocking I know), but in this story it's always a pleasure.
Not only that, but I absolutely relish all the mysteries and wordbuilding of this story. So @Tabula Rasa thank you for sharing it with us!
I was getting creative about how to incorporate your wish for the artwork boon. This scene is completely thanks to you. Thank you again for the wonderful art. I adore it.

Well, this is a bigger event than I thought it would be. The student body being in attendance was a given. But I didn't think that parents would be invited nor that Ministry officials would be coming as well. Though I suppose it makes sense that the Ministry might want to scout out future talent.
Yeah, that was totally planned out like this from the beginning and not the fact that I found my first draft to be really boring otherwise ... ha ha.

This is most of the reason why I took a day longer than expected. The Harry Scene was also a struggle, because giving him enough characterization in a sensible manner was really not easy, but putting a tournament together with so many duels right after our climax, which was already action heavy? Difficult thing to pull off. I am happy that you guys liked it.

[X] Plan: Catching up with family

I really liked the Luna interactions, particularly how you can almost feel the protective and brotherly streak Jacob developed. Given that, I wouldn't mind seeing tutoring sessions for Luna as a possible project for the next school year.
You can always define a social action like that yourselves :) I am throwing many possible routes your way, but feel free to put in something like this in the new year!

 I appreaciate this!

The more spells you guys give Jacob, the cooler the action scenes get.

!
You sure know how to play with your audience's feelings.

haha I love the meme. +5 Exp to Jacob for a fun joke he told his friends.

And now we have @Varder and I think @GoukaRyuu that haven't gotten the rewards for their omakes yet. Could you guys hit me up with a PM? Let's see what would make sense for this.

On a side note @Tabula Rasa would it be possible for us to get a list of known social connections? It is becoming challenging to keep track of which people we know and which we don't, and how close we are. Just general info would be useful.
hmm.. on the one hand, I have this list for myself. On the other hand, it would be even more work on keeping another document updated for you guys, without spoiling too many things without sensible information about future plothooks.

Let me think about it, I honestly want to reduce all workload besides writing to a minimum. I am super efficient at the moment to keep track of this while handling my actual job, but I will think about it.

This is awesome! I didn't know you were writing again. You have one of the best quest formats on the site and I'm always surprised no ones tries to imitate.

[X] Plan: Catching up with family

-[X] A mothers travel
-[X] A Grandfather's obsession

A werewolf cure would be cool, but if it was possible within the short amount of time Nicholas has left, it likely would have been found long before now. I don't think we'll be able to get it sadly.

Though are there any interesting alchemy ideas that people want to pursue? I know I've said it before, but I think it would be awesome to learn how to make a time turner since we know Nicholas has one he can likely instruct us on it. But I'm open to other ideas as well.

That's certainly an interesting proposition,...however, how about a cloak, that can grow wings of a dragon?;)

A robe, a coat, a cloak, whatever, combined with Draconifors.

Rule of cool for the win...always.

Edit: Cloak of Invisibility is for kids, we need a Cloak of Badass Entrance!

Werewolf cure is not something I want to sink AP into when there are much more interesting things to do. Harry can deal until we get around to it in a couple of years.

Aside from that, we really need to find a way to extend the lifespan of our parents. Nicholas is probably a goner, but we can most likely let our parents live longer.

I think this doesn't fit Jacob.

I am not afraid of dying – It is not that you don't fear; you are not a Gryffindor. You feel terror and experience fear just as anyone else. But you are not afraid of dying. There is no reason to be afraid of the unavoidable. You will live your life to the fullest and answer as many of the questions that linger on your mind as you can. But when it is time… you will smile and go.

I doubt his parents are entirely different in that regard.

He doesn't want to die, he is just resigned that it will happen, as he mentions that it is unavoidable. I doubt Jacob would prefer to die instead of being able to explore the mysteries of the world until he gets bored and decides to ends his life voluntarily.

We will need to find an actual way to increase lifespan though, instead of botched rituals like horcruxes.

I mean part of the horror of what we learned from the flamel's is that the elixir of life ultimately required the sacrifice of someone else's life. I think the pattern we have indicates that extending ones life can only come at the expense of someone else's. I think Jacob would find that to be a deal breaker.

I think further research on Pact Making can lead to a way for someone to voluntarily give up their lifespan in exchange for something else. Jacob would be totally okay with it if both parties understand the risks and consent to it.

Another option is to get really into medical/biological spells, and combine muggle knowledge of things like telomeres, stem cells etc. with magical means.

I think Jacob would be cool with eternal youth given his upbringing but he knows that he'll die eventually regardless. Even if he can't find a moral way of getting eternal youth I think he can find a moral way of life span extension.
