Dropping you guys some old information to not have you miss out on old learnings through the hiatus.

The exams will be had after all June actions. Then the spells & potions will be checked. Secondly, there is a general grade of for each subject. To make it simple: A D+ in the Character Sheet will translate into a O in the final grades for a third year.

Herbology & History of Magic are at the cutoff right now (D), but they will turn into D+ with the last class progress in June. The only subject at the moment that is not going to hit the O-exam threshold is Arithmancy. Right now it is at D- and it would hit a D by the time of the exams (Which is fine, I just wanted you to have that information).
Did Arithmancy start out at D-- perhaps since it was an elective?

If true, then never mind my comment. I'm glad that we have enough eyes on this to not do any mistakes like that.

I'll have to check when I'm home. Right now I am just on my phone and don't have access to my notes.

Edit: No need for my notes, it is listed in the character sheet with both classes. You are right :)
And are you saying since Magical Theory overlaps a lot with Arithmancy they were combined together and level up faster automatically from classes?

We have more than 50 bonus for alchemical creation and research, so it is extremely likely that can do it with 3 actions...
I would rather be safe than sorry tbh, since the Map is a pivotal tool in being able to find Sirius. Being able to figure out his pattern of behavior before June starts would be a huge win. We could get it in 3 rolls but there would have to be no bad rolls out of any of the 3 which cuts it a little close. Doing 4 gives Jacob better chances. Besides I had an extra Normal Action left over when I made my plan so I put it there.

And second Instead of going for occlumency and care of Magical Creatures we should train alchemy twice, that way we would unlock the Ghostly Googles for the next month... And since they are extremely useful (they buff our combat, give us life detection even through walls, and we can track Creatures through afterimages) and we can use them to open the Dementor Mystery box
I was considering that, but then I looked at the DC for the Goggles and it was DC 400. We could level up Alchemy twice for May and make the Goggles in June for sure, but if we do so it would eat into Jacob's personal actions for June and would likely take most of them. And as there is a Dueling Tournament in June I don't think people are going to want to spend Personal Actions on the Goggles when there are a number of useful spells that can be learnt for the Tournament that would improve Jacob's chances of winning.

Edit: Unless we can use Normal Action to make the Goggles? I know we are using Normal Actions to make the Map but I believe that is because it involves a long term narrative. Do Alchemy projects take Normal Actions or Personal Action do you know?

could we make it so that if we finish the map early, then we put the leftover actions into learning alchemy?

I'm not sure if conditionals in this work like that.
Sadly, that wouldn't work. The map takes Normal Actions while learning Alchemy would be a Personal Action.

Ok here is my definitive plan,

It is basically the same as the first draft and really similar to the one from @ShyGuy but with 2 main differences...
  • I am only using 3 actions for the map, since our bonus in this action is over 50 and even with average rolls, we would get it, and I am using the freed action to try to learn some spell that can serve us to stunt the target (Basically aiming for stupefy, the personification of simple yet effective in battle magic)
  • I am training Alchemy so that the next turn we can try to get the Ghostly Googles, I kind of want them ASAP because getting them the next turn would allow us to open the Dementor Mystery boss, alongside several abilities that are invaluable for an explorer like jacob

[x] Plan Searching for Black and preparing for Ghostly Googles
-[x] Case V: The Search for Sirius Black (2 Actions [1 Action in May, 1 Action in June]) - There is a dangerous criminal on the loose, and it is your job to track him down. Sirius Black is a wanted man, and it is believed that he may be hiding out close to the castle. No one should get near, there is danger at all steps. You are determined to find him. You know that Black is cunning and resourceful, and you will have to use all of your acquired abilities and detective skills to track him down. With your determination and intelligence, you are confident that you will be able to solve this case and bring Black to justice.
-[x] Runes Club Research x1
-[x] Overdrive applicable: In Search of New Spells (find spells that can incapacitate an/or stunt your opponents)
-[x] Overdrive applicable: Stage III, A Hogwarts Map x4
--[X] If the previous action is finished with less than 4 actions use the excess in Random Encounter
-[x] Overdrive applicable: What hides behind trees I (Danger identified: Dementors. You know have a counter spell and some experience with soul-sucking foes.) – The deep Forbidden Forest extends around to the west of the castle. Everyone knows everything there is to know about the Forbidden Forest; it is a forest and it is forbidden. The rest is just rumors… werewolf's, vampires, monsters and spiders. All dangers a child could imagine await you in the forest. Why were you trembling in anticipation about breaking out of the castle through the passageway behind the mirror and exploring what had been forbidden to you for way too long? (Takes 3 Actions, can't be taken in the same month as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Break through your Horizon)
--[x] Apply Overdrive x2
-[x] Write a Letter (Free Action) – To you parents about your friends and the supportiveness of Ravenclaw, and cross-house compatriots. Maybe talk about the upcoming Dueling Tournament that you hope to do well in.
-[x]x6 personal actions.
-[x] Alchemy x2
-[x] Learning x 4 (Antidote to Uncommon Poisons (Needed for exams at the end of the year), Lumos (Deep Understanding), Point Me, Diffindo, Incendio (Deep Understanding), Reducio, Expelliarmus (Deep Understanding))

Hard agree here, the goggles are a pretty big bonus to combat, awareness and tracking and I really really want to see the interaction with the dementers.

I'll basically auto vote something that pursues it.

Edit: Plan with exactly what I want posted at the same time as me.

[ ] Overdrive applicable: Stage III, A Hogwarts Map (Multiple Actions on this count as multiple rolls stacking) – You are already ahead of what most people know of Hogwarts. The deeper you dig, the more you know that you're still scratching at the surfaces. What is down there? Start making a map of what you already know and see if you can somehow track the people inside the Castle. It should be possible, right? DC 400 [300] Hidden Obsession trait lowers it until end of June, because of increased need.

Alchemy

Ghostly Goggles
Magical Item. You now have a much higher understanding about what it is to be a ghost. For a second, you walked in their shoes and looked through their eyes. They live in a spectrum of the world far different to yours, bridging between the here and the there as most of their magic has passed on and some of their soul stayed behind. You may be able to build something that did the same; give an item magic and then simulate the process the Grey Lady let you feel. Simulate the process of dying and give yourself the ability to see between the living- and the afterlife. [While wearing Ghostly Goggles; Allows you to see the spirits of the living; Gain a +5 in combat against creatures; Gain the ability to see a form of afterimages as footprints that living creatures leave behind; Gain the ability to see living things through walls; ?? when interacting with Dementors ??] (Requires Alchemy and Ancient Runes skill of at least P), DC: 400.
Quick question here. I see that we can use Normal Action to make the Map. Would it be the same if we met the prerequisites for the Ghostly Goggles? Would we be using Normal Actions to meet the DC 400 or would we be using Personal Actions?

Heads up, you have an extra Normal Action that you didn't use. Black (1) + Random Encounter (1) + Spell Search (1) + Map (3) + Trees (3) = 9 Normal Actions. Minus the 2 you get from the Overdrive gives you 7 Normal Actions. You should be aiming for 8 Normal Actions considering the amount of Personal Actions you have so you actually have one Normal Action left over. Maybe consider adding in a Runes Club Research Action in an attempt to find the last Rune (we are at 9/10 right now)?

Other than that, the only real concern I have about attempting to do the Goggles at this point in time depends on if they take Normal Actions or Personal Actions to complete. As if it takes Personal Actions then for the last month Jacob basically won't be able to spend time learning any more Spells or working on Subjects for the Dueling Tournament.

What about adding an extra action to the map to basically gurantee success with the stipulation that if we finish it early we should do the rune research?

Well, we've found 9/10 of the Castle Runes. We probably shouldn't leave it to the last month because we can still fail the roll and then it's the 11th hour and we don't have it done yet (I do remember we had one month where the rolls were horrible for finding Runes, we don't want to put it off and have a repeat of that in June). Plus you never know what could pop up in the last month of the year. That and the Rune Club activity is great for training Jacob's Rune skills which some Alchemy projects need based on the Goggles.

If we are fairly confident on finishing the Map this next turn then I say go for a Rune Club action. Even if the Map doesn't finish in May it will take at most one action in June to complete it.

On the other hand, the rune club as a whole gets a free roll which is a little better odds than 50-50, so we could gurantee the map and have a 50-50 shot there even if we roll badly on the map.

It just comes down to what we value guranteeing more, but ultimately I'm not fussed either way.

Dammit I wanted the Rune research but I forgot to paste it...

Thanks for letting me know...

We can always turn regulat Actions in Personal Actions to cover for that...

We can probably convert 3-4 Actions that way

True, but then Jacob loses out on the potential training roll if the Club finds it and he doesn't take the club action.

My concern is mostly with how much it could potentially cut into the Spell Learning Actions with the Tournament coming up, even when converting extra Normal Actions to Personal ones. But this could be a moot point too. The Map takes Normal Actions to complete, maybe the Goggles would as well. We probably won't know till Tabula Rasa has a chance to respond.

Will we be getting the last rank we need in arithmancy/magical theory so that we get an O on our final exams?

I am not too worried about cutting too many spell learning Actions for thr Tournament, because well, it is a Tournament in which we are supposed to disarm or incapacitate our opponents without harming them, and the only offensive spells available for us that could be used are deep understanding of Flipendo and Expelliarmus...

There is the out of the box stuff. Transfiguration and charms can be used so it isn't going to just be spell flinging the Disarming Charm. Freezing the floor, ropes that wrap around your opponent, etc. Flinging a rock at your opponent and using Engorgio on it so it becomes a boulder. More versatility only helps.

Personally I think a good trick would be to cast Lumos and shine the light in their eyes while casting another spell at the same time.

Edit: I'm mainly worried that Jacob has shown off most of his spells at the Dueling Club so his opponents have an idea of what to expect from him and are prepared.

It looks like it based on the QM's last statement in regards to Arithmancy. Though he did say that he would have to refer to his notes as well.

But I'm also very curious what animal animagus Jacob would be tbh.
Because of course Jacob is going to become an animagus at some point, it'd be strange for him not to with his character.
If we go by the fairly extended theory that the form of a corporeal Patronus is a decent indicator of what form you will be as an animagus transformation, then Jacob would be a wolf...

That doesn´t have to be the case though... There is another theory that I like quite a lot, that while the animagus form is basically a reflection of their soul and personality, the form of the patrons is a reflection of what makes you happy...

I'm pretty sure he'll be a Honey Guide. It's an African bird known for finding things (beehives) and then leading humans to the hive so that the humans will take care of the bees and it gets to eat. However, it ignores what most would consider the main prize of the hive (the honey) and instead eats the wax.

It's also a brood parasite.

I know it absolutely reeks of super speshul SI OC, but what if he was a magic animal, it's canon that it's generally considered possible after all (Not that Rasa has to follow canon to the letter, some of it's quite bad).

There's a perfect animal for Jacob as well, a niffler.

The Niffler was a magical beast with a long snout and a coat of black, fluffy fur. They were attracted to shiny things, which made them wonderful for locating treasure, but that also meant that they could wreak havoc if kept (or let loose) indoors.
Nifflers were assigned to Curse-Breakers by the Gringotts Head Goblin to burrow underground in search of treasures hidden in cursed sites.

Maybe there's something better, but I reckon it'd be a pretty neat animal to turn into.
