Regarding the vote... I kind of want to get the stone, if only because it could be an interesting thing to study down the line
We could come back for it when we have the ability to communicate with the squid or are able to investigate the stone without disturbing the squid/being noticed, rather than take it and just have it sitting around.
It's not like we aren't in AP hell as it is ;)

Love that this updated again, welcome back Tabula Rasa.

BeepSmile has expressed my thoughts already, it feels like just taking the stone is a poor approach given the Squid has already claimed it. I'd prefer to wait until we can find out about it via other means.

I also think that taking the stone means that all future explorations become more fraught, as the Squid may try and get it back or just get revenge endangering us whenever we investigate other opportunities in the lake. It depends on its intelligence, but as stated in the chapter Jacob doesn't have the CoMC knowledge right now to make this decision.

I really really don't want to piss off the mermaids by angering their neighbour kraken. Not on our way in at least.

Maybe the merpeople know more about the rock. If we can make contact with them and ask we might be able to find out what it is without picking a fight with anyone.

Or to put in other words, make note for now and keep exploring, is what I would vote for for now.

The thing is, I want Jacob to leave the stone. But the reason is not to be 'sensible' or avoid risk.
But because I don't want him to take it. There is another who invested in it.

If Jacob had the skills to learn about the stone without moving it I'd vote to do that, or if he could talk to the squid and explain that he's just curious that'd be even better.
But those options are not available right now. So I prefer to make note of the stone and continue exploring.

@Tabula Rasa is a write-in, in line with what I typed above possible?
We have all been gone for a looong time. Let's keep it simple this time, so no write-in!

I am so glad to see you back with such an awesome quest @Tabula Rasa !!!

Thank you for the warm welcoming. I appreciate it deeply.

Remind me again. What's up with the stone?
As @Silver719 said so eloquently:
It's shiny, new, and the first real mystery we've discovered by personal exploration using only the tools we've made.

It's something new.

I'm leaning towards letting it be. Jacob doesn't need to become Abu in the Cave of Wonders.

A movie as old as I am. Topkek.

Glad to see you back, too :) I hope we get all familiar faces back and maybe a few new ones. It's always a lot of fun.

Great that you clarified the moment when it would be ok to anger them. I will note it down for future reference haha

Edit: Also you guys can vote now.

I really mislike the reasoning for the 'leave it be' option, but trying to take the rock feels like being an asshole; so...

[X] But it feels so empty, without me – While the Stone that is positioned right on its head is interesting, it is not worth angering the giant. You will leave it behind and track deeper into the Lake. There is still much more to see. This is for sure the more sensible approach. That stone could be literally anything and nothing.

No need to steal from the giant squid. I'd much rather explore more rather than hunt for treasures.

As for the update, the writing was wonderful as usual and I'm looking forward to reading the story again to get familiar with it.

[X] Archaeologist at Heart – You don't know how you will do it, nor do you know what the stone is. Maybe it isn't even interesting or special at all. But still, you want to go for it and grab it. It is an easy thing to do really. Step 1: Swim back, Step 2: ?, Step 3: Grab the stone and run. If that is not a sensible plan, you don't know what is! (You have 14 Time Echoes banked. Tempting to be an "Archaeologist at Heart" to indulge in our inner Indy and scream "It belongs in a museum!"

But...I think exploration will be more interesting this time around.
