Just a reminder that we don't need to worry about the Dementors if we go exploring. Turtling up inside the castle isn't something the the QM seems enthused about.

I think most people plan on getting it next month, when we will automatically meet the requirements for the spell. At least I do.

Usually there would not have been enough time for you to get there, wander around to explore the lands and come back in time for curfew. Having access to a broom would have helped you, but now that you had secret exits out of Hogwarts… the horizon was not your limit anymore. Use the unknown passageway in the north end of the castle. (Takes 3 Actions, can't be taken in the same month as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and What hides behind trees)

Only after reading this update i realized- Jacob is growing. Not just maturing and discovering painful truths but plain old physical growing, and considering that both of his parents are described as tall, he is going to grow a lot.
It means the shoes probably won't fit next year, unless Flamel made them so they grow with Jacob. Hell, out of the three alchemical projects only the "short term use" map probably doesn't need to be remade every year.

In less annoyed thoughts concerning the shoes, I think it would be best if we choose "These are for Exploration Only". Tom will show up his head next year, and in three years all of magical Britain is going to be in flames and I would like to keep a hidden ace card. Both for the surprise element and so nobody will try to create similar boots for themselves/coerce Jacob to make. I prefer this option over the "Do not use them" since the boots sound amazing and using them creatively demand practice. Jacob can't have amazing mid air choreography if he is going to trip on a cloud.

I am in favor that we will write a letter to Jacob's parents concerning Flamel. The issue is very much relevant to them as well (made me think of all the cases when doctor messed with patients' reproductive treatment and now I have bad shivers). Also I just plain love that our character has a good relationship with his parents, based on love, respect and honest communication. Particularly when you compare it to Harry's PTSD infused distrust of other, and specially of adults.

Greatly enjoyed the painting's description. Who draw it, Jacob or his mother?
Anyway the description reminds me Munch's "The Dance of Life", even though the style is probably completely different and the meaning is absolutely very very different.
Thank you Tabula Rasa, now it is time to think about frogs and maybe monthly planning

Why dump this on them?
They're are approaching the end of their long lives, telling them does nothing for Jacob or them. It puts a lot of stress and guilt and perhaps even depression unto them.
While communication is good that doesn't mean they have to know everything about him. To him, they are his parents and to them, he is their son. Let them enjoy that as they approach their graves. He has to be able to weather things by himself, not to say confiding in people shouldn't be something that he does but some things are better left unsaid.

So, accept the gift from Flamel or not? Well, exploration only is the more pragmatic choice. Casual use would mean that Jacob doesn't see the issue with taking a gift from Flamel after Perenelle's confession.

Letting them be and making his own boots would definitely make him distance himself from Nicolas.

It is within their right to know that someone they trust betray them. In addition, Jacob doesn't know and can't check if the soul trap is still active-but he has allies who can.
David and Isabella are old, but they are not invalid, made of glass or suffering from dementia. They might be old but they are also highly competent adults with sharp minds.
More importantly, any decent parent would prefer to know something awful than to leave their 13 year old child with the burden of knowledge alone. If anything they will be glad their child trusts them and respect them enough to share and ask for help (which they are capable of giving), instead of the typical teenager's secrecy.
