A Darker Path [Worm Fanfic]

To absolutely be a horrid nit picker, the Darwin awards are to commemorate those who removed themselves from the gene pool by acts of their own stupidity. As such they may be divided into auto-sterilization and surprise suicide categories.

I am certain that this character means *deliberate* suicide...
I'll be adjusting that post slightly.

I looked up Louis the XIV, aka the Sun King to see if it might be his sword for the pun value but he died too early for a sword from 1753.
I will be retconning that date too. You saw nothing.

One thing I find especially funny about the whole Ravager/Ravoli affair is how everyone is just going along with Atropos' imposed name change.

"Atropos says she's called Ravioli now? She be Ravioli then."

"Atropos says she's called Ravioli now? She be Ravioli then."
Hey, everyone saw Atropos offer to change it, and Rav didn't take her up on that. It's even written on her jacket now. Seems legit.

On a different note, I wonder what she did to the gun with her angle grinder?

Path to Ending Unhappiness
Reply: Taylor getting old.

She is eighty now and so loved by her power that it has pushed restrictions back for her and allowed shenanigans that are borderline just acting like path to victory. But that is not today's topic. In fact today lands perfectly within the rules.

Taylor woke up and said path to ending unhappiness in Brocton Bay?

Her power responds put seven hundred dollars in your pocket and go for a walk in the capital hill graveyard. So she follows the instructions as is usual.

She spots a woman crying over the grave of a loved one and offers a hug. While Taylor is giving comfort her power whispers in her ear, slip six hundred dollars into her pocket.

Taylor doesn't care what the money is used for but if she had asked her power would have told her that the woman was a struggling single mother who just lost her wife. The six hundred dollars was enough for rent and food.

The mother was so inspired by the kindness of a stranger that once she was able she vowed to give back to the community. And give back she did, becoming a business owner and a moral pillar for those who needed help just like she had.

In her old age, Taylor no longer has to kill to bring about change and revels in small kindness.

Lol sorry but I read the chapter and this just appeared in my head. Had to get it out.

An asshole villain being given a joke name? You can bet everyone would find that hilarious. There would be talk show hosts and stand up comics working that into their shows.

As for the shotgun ... mwahaha.

Damn what a great chapter, all the cheesy puns were great! And clever, clever Taytropos using that particular sword.

What are the chances that Atropos kills the mooks using a paperclip in one hand and a cheese grater in the other, just to demonstrate that she's better at improvised weapons?
Offhand, I'd say low. Bastard Son is planning to conscript innocents to send against Atropos as an attempt to ruin her image. And we already know how Atropos feels about brand dilution...

Personally I think it likely that Atropos counters BS's multi-target attack with her own variety of 'shotgun method'... And that her use of the sword will be to 'make a point' with the remainder of the Elite.

That said, the trolling author has been known to leave a Chekov device sitting around for a few chapters on occasion.

He still remembered the night he'd been taken up Captain's Hill so he could look out over the whole city while Max gave him the 'one day, all this will be yours' speech.
Theo Anders never saw The Lion King the same way ever gain.
"One of your swords, actually. The Louis the Fourteenth hand-and-a-half from seventeen-oh-five. You okay with that?"
...Huh. That is a bastard sword. Owned by a man who had lot of illegitimate children.
Danny sighed and rolled his eyes. "My daughter, the international woman of mystery."
More violent Carmen Sandiego.
"Oh, it's just a loaner." She grinned. "I'm going to be needing to make a point sometime soon."
A very sharp point.
Even Amy Dallon had the same problem from the other direction, due to her mother's fixation on who her father was (puh-leeze. His peccadillos as a murdering gangster aside, Marquis had been ten times the parent Carol Dallon was).

(To paraphrase the old Chuck Norris meme: I don't chase. I *wait*).
So where are the long awaited "Atropos Facts"?
The Funniest Home Video version, with the swears edited out and humorous sound effects edited in, can be found [here]. She's never been so famous.
BWA-HA-HA-HA-HAA!!! It actually happened!
Bastard Son of the Elite has decided that he can take me.

It has been decided by our committee that any deaths resulting from blatantly ignoring a direct warning by Atropos will officially be classed as deliberate suicide and thus be ineligible for an Award. Anyone punished in a non-lethal fashion (such as this one) will, however, be given Honorable Mention status.
Oh, this is fucking hilarious!
@Reave - you're welcome. Not today, but I appreciate the offer (by the way, I watered your plants for you).
That was nice of her.

If we hadn't seen what happened to Ravioli, this would be a Noodle Incident.
But I think Atropos went far pasta that line.

Well let's face it - I'd penne'd it down back when Rava- sorry, Ravioli tried to hire me. So Ravioli tortellini deserved it.

@Atropos - Can I steal that? It was really gouda. Also, thanks once more for the hit on Ravioli's credibility. That footage was *(pasta) chef's kiss*.

Glad you got permission from Atropos, MP. We wouldn't want her cheesed off with you. :D

@EdBaccarat - I mean, MP got plenty of things from that failed heist to take as a trofie :) If nothing else she can share the pic to any Ravioli fans, drive emmental :p
It's little moments like these that make life worth living.
That'd be just about as dumb as trying to hire the Slaughterhouse Nine (hope their relocation to Hell is everything they deserve) to do... well, anything! Maybe even dumber because Atropos nixed the ninnies!
Hah! Timeline jokes!
To put it another way, this isn't normal stupid. This is....
*ADVANCED STUPID*.
"I cast Magic Missile at the stupid!!!"

Ramen to that! Think of all the pastabilities. They mac (and cheese) me smile! Can't wait for all the PHO-natics to really go for it. The pesto's yet to come for SURE.
:rofl2:

So, what did she do with that remaining hundred?

On the matter of Bastard Son, perhaps he can killed by a Bastard Sword wielded by a Bastard Daughter (after all both Cherie and Amy are illegitimate children)

Then I went to the work-bench, where the angle-grinder lay next to the vise.
"Vice" is the word you're looking for I think, unless it's a regional spelling.

The flower-watering bit reminds me of Mauling snarks, where Contessa has a path running to keep a set of special plants watered.

Also a nice setup chapter before the next bit.

As far as I can tell, 'vise' is the American English spelling.

It is. They're pronounced the same way, but we renegade colonials spell the clamp differently to distinguish it from our Puritan forefathers' idee fixe. (I have no idea whether that's the case actually, but it's funny.)

Also, poor Amy, still so warped by Carol's obsessions that she thinks allowing her power to flex a little will result in her drawing Atropos' ire. I know trauma and brainwashing isn't so easily overcome, but it's still painful to see. At least she's taking baby steps.

Carol: "You're going down the path of villainy!"

Amy: "I'm not and I can prove it!"

Carol: "How?"

Amy: "I'm not on Atropos' kill list."

Atropos: But if you keep on, Carol... You will be on my embarrass horribly list. We all know how that goes. Just ask Ravioli, Brandy.
(Implication is that she'll ruin her using booze, giving her the reputation of an awful alcoholic)

I could be incorrect, but I always thought Theo's mother was Max's first wife, Heith (killed by the Teeth). Also, as far as I'm aware the only other child Max has is Aster, and we know he was married to Kayden. So no bastards involved there.

Edit: Aside from the sword she borrowed.
