Solars. We have the ability to outfight any ONE opponent out there and survive trying.
But we don't have the kind of extended energy reserves to hold for as long as we might want to, we don't have much in the way of scenelong effects.
Go for the classic weakness of Chaos forces, everything is bound up in their leadership. Kill it and the whole thing falls apart.

Duel the leader, and save them all

To clarify, this option isn't just Salvadore standing at the bridge shouting for the beastman leadership to show up and fight him like a (beast)man, it's taking the entire defending force deep into the warherd to where their leadership is and challenging them there in the heart of their power. Casualties will be heavy, and even success doesn't automatically guarantee survival (though it does help, of course). the dice hunger

Nor should you. Mystery box is always the best option. I don't have evidence to support this assertion but with the mystery box you don't really need that do you?

Gentlemen. And ladies. And others.
This option wasn't called suicidal for show. And since Sal leads a bunch of people, casualties among that group will be very heavy if you choose this option.

[X] Hold firm, every hour here is an hour for the villagers to escape. They may even send help, though you may not like the form it takes.

Standing on the bridge and calling out the leaders would be a variant of hold in place. It actually has a chance of working. Salvatore can be very insulting and he has a bunch of minotaur heads to wave. If the herds decide they'd really rather their leaders went first, that's a lot of pressure on the leaders.

A fighting retreat with low grade troops is much harder than making a stand at a choke point. It also doesn't do as much to buy the whole of this side of the river's peasants (not just the local villagers) time to run, which we claimed was our motivation.

Finally, we're expecting a toad killer storm by tonight - the river will be an even stronger barrier then, we'd have some sort of shelter at the village to rotate to, and it would bog down any attempt at a fighting retreat.

Well yes, but we're outnumbered and our motes won't last through the holdout options(even going loud with the glow buys us only about twice as much more time).

Breaking the herd will be costly, but it at least has a terminus beyond hoping the beastmen grow bored before you run out of energy

The vote is still open, but since it is likely that Salvadore is going to do just a bit of glowing in the next update whatever is chosen I am opening up the floor to suggestions for what his anima banner might look like. (I've got something for his Past Life, some of the banners for his First Age Circle mates and his Lunar Mate as last he saw her, but I don't have anything for Salvadore that felt quite right). To encourage discussion, I'm willing to give +1 xp for every suggestion I like, whether I use it or not.

My first thought was a sword, thrust suggestively upwards through a halo

Our troops can't even rotate ranks as they get injured properly; a fighting retreat will get them torn apart. And striking the leadership isn't called "suicidal" for nothing. As for going full past life... we might be able to pass off sunlight and anima as some kind of divine blessing. Flaring and being obviously possessed by someone else at the same time? Much more socially awkward.

I was kind of surprised to see Random Peasant Girl sprout into the main supporting actor this update. But I guess wherever Salvadore goes, the nearest woman becomes his secondary character focus of choice.

I have no genius ideas for anima banner. Ideally something which can be at least vaguely linked to religious imagery/symbols because that would make life a lot easier, although I laughed pretty hard at the "suggestively posed sword" idea for being iconic of what Salvatore stands for.

The first wave has broken against the defenders' spears, but it was the least of the attacks Salvadore anticipates. It was also the easiest to anticipate, but at least two more are coming and as acting-commander of the defense it is for Salvadore Chavez to decide how to fight the enemy.
Y'know what, fuckit:

Might as well put my money where my mouth is.
I think it's a Sidereal cue, and it would be thematically appropriate for a Sidereal exaltation to have found its way to WFB ahead of a Solar exaltation, just so it can reveal itself at a thematically appropriate moment and look smug.

RATIONALE
As a purely military decision, holding the chokepoint is the superior decision, as opposed to attempting to outrun Beastmen while you have no Survival charms and are leading peasants with .

From a magical perspective? Salvatore is an Eclipse. The Solars who specialise in diplomacy and travel.
Opportunities to do Eclipse things, like negotiate with people/gods/fae/demons/elves gives Solar XP.
I'm curious to see what, if any help, villagers in Mousillon would send. I'm betting Wood Elf derivative.

EDIT @Slamu Don't think I didn't see that Isidoros reference there by the way.

As for the vote options?
I think that the colored emotions are Sidereal triggers, not Chaos ones, so I might as well vote for the ones I find interesting.
Blue for the Chosen of Serenity, red for the Chosen of Battles, and calm for Sidereal.

There are 5 maidens and 4 chaos gods.
There are 4 coloured votes.

Red/green/blue/purple are traditional colors of Khorne/Nurgle/Tzeentch/Slaanesh, respectively.

Odds of it being Maidens and not Chaos Gods are slim.

This also happens to be a Warhammer/Exalted quest.
Red/Green/Blue/Purple are traditional colors of Battles/Secrets/Serenity/Endings
That Journeys happens to not be represented can be as simple as the fact that Salvatore, as an Eclipse, is already associated with Journeys.

Or something could have happened to Creation.
