A Certain Scientific XCOM Project

Clones don't grow on trees. Especially as early as it is right now.

[X] Order the squad to retreat towards previously cleared territory.

We need to get out of the Killing Ground first, and then we can worry about mounting a counter-offensive.

[X] Order the squad to hold the line, no matter the cost.

There's a line in the sand. We are on one side, the aliens are on the other. We do not let them cross. We do not let them think about crossing. We do not think ourselves of letting them cross. It takes three months to clone a new soldier, but it takes three years to build a new tradition. The line will hold.

Edit: I maaaaay have a large collection of flashlights and Leman Russ tanks to back up my stance.

Too risky. This will go good if we have a good collection of dice rolls, unfortunately, we can not be sure that this will work. I've seen genius plans go to waste because of dice. If we do it you're political stance it probably will take another dice roll as well. Something we do not have luck in.

*shiver*

Whereas I'd say:
[X] Give no orders and allow the squad to act on their own initiative.
Because it gives the clones a guaranteed bonus to attack and defense, and it's much less of a mark on my conscience if they get killed on their own initiative.

I think we are pretty much done with voting.

OOC: The reason I think many people don't talk in this quest is because there is not a lot of planning involved, and without updates, it can go without communication.

Operation Violent Library, Part 8b
Please don't bug me too much about updates. While I love that you guys are interested in this quest and want it to continue, I'm really busy with my day to day life right now and don't have as much time to write as I used to. If I'm not updating this quest, it's probably because I have IRL stuff keeping me busy.

[X] Order the squad to retreat towards previously cleared territory.

"Pull back! Pull back!" you yell.

"Retreat to the courtyard!" unit 10035 yells. You hear another few bursts of rifle fire. The tension nearly makes you slam your hands on the table, before you remember your broken right fingers and pull your hand away just in time.

"I can't get out!" one of the SHIRAI units yells.

"Cover for her, 10033!" 10035 says. "I'll cover you in a bit!" She begins to bark out more orders to the squad that, unfortunately, you don't have the chance to hear, because the phone in your pocket is buzzing.

You reach into your pocket and pick it up. "Yes?"

"That line isn't secure, commander!" COMMUNICATIONS says from a few seats down. You ignore her and slump down in the nearest rolling chair, bringing the phone up.

"This is the Council speaking," says the voice of the mysterious man from your first day. "We are...worried...about your progress."

"If you haven't noticed, I'm a bit busy right now," you snap back. "Maybe let me finish the damn mission before you chew me--"

"The Ace of Tokiwadai, Misaka Mikoto, has cleared the Seventh Heaven shopping mall," the man observes. "Meanwhile, the assault where you chose to concentrate your strongest effort has resulted in what could charitably be described as a --"

"Get to the point, or let me do my job," you hiss.

"Academy City has already secured a significant public relations victory," the man says solemnly. "Your forces are exhausted and in danger of being overrun. We have a proposition for you. If you feel your tactical situation would be too...difficult...to salvage, we can task Anti-Skill with completing your main objective."

"Won't that get the city in a panic when Anti-Skill screws up?" you demand.

"It is possible that we may...encourage...the evening news to show footage of Misaka Mikoto in larger than what might be expected of a balanced report. We will ensure that no panic or funding loss results from your withdrawal."

"And what do you want from me in exchange?"

"We would like you to perform a certain...unsavory...task on our behalf in the future. If you choose to withdraw your forces now, you will receive our missive in one week's time." The man pauses. "Such large groups are more suited for more traditional military organizations; it is likely our future mission requests will better befit the...unique...nature of your unit."

[Status Report-Quicktime]
[ ] Order a full retreat and let Anti-Skill finish the job.

The current mission will be completed immediately, and you will receive the full rewards you would have received had you defeated all enemies. Panic will not increase.
When the Council Mission appears in 1 week, you will be required to accept it.

[ ] You can finish the job yourself.

You can decline or offer to modify the scope of the Council Mission.
Increased risk of XCOM casualties.

Hmmm. The penalty for retreating doesn't seem all that important. I mean, I'm pretty sure we would have accepted the council mission anyway (though that line about 'unsavory task' worries me). On the other hand, leaving a job half finished would leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Wow, really? A level 5 is able to do more than a bunch of level 2-3? Who would have thought? :eyeroll:

Look at you, 10035, all grown up. I really will have to write another omake where you do get ice cream, after that!

I do not want to be ass-deep in Thin Men or doing a bomb disposal with what are effectively Rookies. We need the option to flip them the bird and just say no.

We're ain't them. :V

And guys, PSA by Skarmony. People have lives outside of being a QM, y'know.

On one hand, if we continue with the mission, we might be able to get the job done with less effort, but it risks getting our kiddos injured or killed.

On the other hand, we bring our kiddos home safe and sound and get Ice Cream to celebrate with all of them. At the same time, Anti-skill will probably lose like, two, maybe two and a half battalions and and the mall will probably be reduced to rubble.

. . .

Eh, they're grown ass adults. Let's bring the kids home.

[X] You can finish the job yourself.

'Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.' As they say.

Mostly because I don't trust the Council's Mission to be any easier than the one we're in right now and I absolutely hate anybody having hooks on us.

NOPE!! I trust our girls more than Anti-skill to get this job done without casualties, also the council can go screw themselves.

[X] You can finish the job yourself.

I trust the aliens here to do less damage to us than the Council's mandatory mission.

I agree with everyone else, and we know who won this vote. Now, With the update, I wonder,

What will we do?

It looks like two our boys (girls) are pinned down, because one of them was trying to support the others. Now, the question is, Is there any alternatives to this action, or do we let them proceed?

Eh, Probably going to be options next turn anyways.
