A Certain Scientific XCOM Project

Woldn't this be a good moment for someone of the Raidex cast to stumble upon the whole thing? Like Mikoto having a "oh crap, there's now three of them" moment.

Well, right now, we're doing okay, so I'd rather keep a potential dramatic rescue for a time where we really need it. ;)

Of course, outside intervention could always be welcome, but better plan with what we have right now.

I rather had something closer to "stupd civeis always getting in the way" in mind.

Ugh, sorry for the delay. I've been really busy the past few days getting ready to move back in at college, so I haven't been able to keep this on the schedule I'd like. Things should improve once school starts back up since I'll be able to update in between classes and stuff.

Based on this map, I need to confirm with @Skarmory if:
1) The north part of this map is a wall or continues further.
2) The radio noise disturbance was to the northeast, approximately the visible shop there.
3) There is any visible means of getting to the second floor/rooftops

The north part of this building continues a little further. There's a pair of hallways next to a (barricaded) staircase going upstairs, and then a door leading back outside.

The electromagnetic disturbance was to the northeast, in the visible building, yes.

The second floor of the building has been firmly barricaded by students, but you can climb the side of a building in some limited locations to reach the roof. If you search for a location to climb up, you might find one, or you might not.

Operation Violent Library, Part 5
look guys i'm alive

votes appear tied if you use the vote counter but I just assumed that @Macros supported his own vote, even if he didn't put x's in it.

[x] Plan Thread Carefully
- [x] MISAKA 10035 uses her medikit to heal the poison, then moves back toward the others, near the exit
- [x] MISAKA 10033 moves to the door and check if the streets are still clear, reload, overwatch
- [x] SHIRAI 1 does the same
- [x] SHIRAI 2 moves to the dumpster that MISAKA 10033 left earlier, reload, overwatch.
- [x] If no alien contact at any point, turn 2
-- [x] SHIRAI 1 & 2 moves on both sides of the door of the central building
-- [x] MISAKA 10033 moves behind the tree to cover both the door and the right street
-- [x] MISAKA 10035 moves toward the dumpster (my, what a popular place today!) to cover the left street

"Unit 10035's life signs are dropping!" the man calls out. "Evac the area immediately! An unknown extraterrestrial bioweapon has been deployed--"

"No!" you counter. "We finish the mission! There's medical kits in the field; as long as everyone doesn't fall ill, we'll be fine. All units vacate the building, though, just to be safe!"

Your soldiers respond immediately, no doubt not eager to get a taste of the Thin Man's toxin. As they begin to move, though, all of the lights in Command flicker out.

"What the hell is going on!" you yell as the facilty is isolated from the main power grid and the backup generators kick in. Even with the power on, the video feeds don't return. "Where are my video feeds!"

Last Order leans forward, speaking to you robotically. "'MISAKA reports that MISAKA units deployed around the Seventh Heaven shopping center have sighted Mikoto Misaka engaged in combat with the extraterrestrial threat. The extreme electromagnetic fluctuations created by her attacks have disabled our video network temporarily; we will not be able to safely reboot until onee-chan has ceased her activities.', MISAKA explains calmly, requesting that Commander not shoot the messenger."

"Do we at least still have communications with our primary field team?" you demand. Last Order nods.

"MISAKA reports that voice communications and vital sign readings, being based on much less sensitive electronics, are still operational, Commander." As if on cue, voices begin to filter in from your field team.

"Commander! Onee-sama 35 is still throwing up!" SHIRAI 2 says. "With the ook covering the front of her uniform, even SHIRAI is struggling to find onee-sama attractive!"

"MISAKA 10035, deploy the broad-spectrum anti-toxin in your medkit immediately!" You hear a groan as MISAKA presumably injects herself, then a sigh.

"MISAKA 10035 is...operational, Commander," the girl reports. "However, MISAKA would like to request a full medical workup and toxin screen at the Commander's earliest convenience."

"Can you finish the mission?" You demand.

There's a brief pause. Finally, 10035 replies, "MISAKA will try, Commander."

"Good!" you order. "Take positions on the second building near our starting position. Prepare to breach!"

Who?

[ ] MISAKA 10033
[ ] MISAKA 10035
[ ] SHIRAI 1
[ ] SHIRAI 2

What?

[ ] Move to a different location.

[ ] Fire at an enemy.

[ ] Take an overwatch position.

[ ] Suppress an enemy (MISAKAs only)

[ ] Use an esper ability.

[ ] Use an equipment item.

So I guess, case the building to the right carefully, look for alternative entrances, and keep ears open for any aliens moving inside.

Can we teleport a SHIRAI up to the roof to be spotter?

For reference, we're basically back to here:

That northern building is the one we're setting up to check, and we previously detected electromagnetic signals from it, indicating either a drone presence or alien jammers.

I would propose a fairly standard breach and clear operation, set up M35 to cover the alleyway and get M33 and one of the SHIRAI's to stack on the door, then kick it in next turn with M33 engaging for suppression while the SHIRAI's rush in to engage.

Agreed. I was going to suggest something to similar effect. No need for half guesses here unless we suspect that something's gonna pop in behind us.

What about the other SHIRAI, though? Might as well involve her in the Breach as well.

Don't take any risks. Breach and spray down any that's in the room from the door. Grenade anything you can't shoot with your gun. If necessary, pull back and overwatch.

I just assumed that @Macros supported his own vote

You know, sometimes I'm not so sure... :p

units deployed around the Seventh Heaven shopping center have sighted Mikoto Misaka engaged in combat with the extraterrestrial threat

Well, someone is having fun.

However, MISAKA would like to request a full medical workup and toxin screen at the Commander's earliest convenience.

Yeah, that seems wise. Let's try to not overwork her in the meantime.

For reference, we're basically back to here:

Actually, we should already be at the doors of the buidling with the disturbance :

- [ ] If no alien contact at any point, turn 2
-- [ ] SHIRAI 1 & 2 moves on both sides of the door of the central building
-- [ ] MISAKA 10033 moves behind the tree to cover both the door and the right street
-- [ ] MISAKA 10035 moves toward the dumpster (my, what a popular place today!) to cover the left street

... and that apparently killed the conversation.

Okay then, so let's try a vote.

[X] MISAKA 10033 uses overwatch, and stays ready to shoot as soon as the door of the building is opened
[X] SHIRAI 2 opens the door ; drops a telefrag into the strongest concentration of enemies she can find (if she can only hit one enemy with a grenade, she teleports in cover and shoot instead)
[X] SHIRAI 1 teleports in cover and shoot at the easiest target
[X] MISAKA 10035 stays in overwatch

Basically, what we did with the first building, rinse, repeat.

SHIRAI-02 does not have Teleport available, having used it the previous turn. That aside I see no major issues, although I would strongly consider bringing MISAKA-10033 forward and having her emplace in the doorway to provide overwatch, rather than remaining behind and having only a very, very narrow window of fire into the building that places the current position of the SHIRAI's in her line of fire.

[X][SHIRAI-02] Opens the door and Telefrag's a grenade into the largest cluster of enemies, moving into cover and engaging with small-arms fire if no cluster of enemies is available. If no enemies are present, enter the building and take cover while assuming overwatch.
[X][SHIRAI-01] If enemies are present, teleport into a covered flanking position and engage with small-arms fire. If no enemies are present, investigate the building to locate the electromagnetic disturbances detected from the building.
[X][MISAKA-10033] Move north to the door and engage any remaining enemies in sight, otherwise assuming overwatch.
[X][MISAKA-10035] Remain in overwatch position, and report any further health complications.

Given that the previous vote covered two turns, teleport should be back online. As for 10033, I'm on the fence, one method ensures she can shoot someone before it takes cover, but at a longer range. I'm counting on the scope to negate most disadvantages, but yes, it depends on having a good line of sight from the start, which isn't certain.

That vote's good. I don't see anything I can add to improve.
Poor 35, though. Thin Man toxin is not fun.

A suggestion for after the mission: Impliment a standing order that if Kihara does anything without your explicit instruction or aproval, he is to be executed immidiatly. That should keep him from getting any funny ideas.

Problem is, we don't have that kind of authority. He was forced upon us by the Director's board, with the expressed purpose of replacing us if we were to fail. I seriously doubts we can get rid of him without a very, very good reason, and maybe not even then. At best, we might manage for him to have an unfortunate accident, but the higher ups aren't stupid. Plus, we might end up with an even worse Kihara as a result.

"Hi, I'm Kihara Gensei. Long time no see, doctor Kiyama."
"Oh fuck no."

...you don't understand Kiharas do you?

That doesn't do anything except ensure that they will incorporate the destruction of your organization in their scheme.

Sorry for the big delay, guys. I've been busy getting settled in at college and managing a crucial moment in my other quest Puella Magi Exemplare Terrae.

I still intend to continue this quest if you guys are still interested in playing, but I would like it if you guys could give me a few more votes. I don't feel comfortable updating with just one vote in a traditional voting format.

Whoops, forgot to vote. Sorry GM.

EDIT: Since this is a Scientific Railgun crossover, can we get any other main characters to join XCOM e.g. Touma? I wanna see what Imagine Breaker does to aliens, if it does anything at all. I mean, what the Aliens are doing is basically genetic splicing magic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My only addendum is to have M33's mag topped up in case we need to suppress in a hurry. I should really be more active in this Quest, apologies.

Honestly, probably nothing. At first glance, Touma is completely ill-suited to deal with those guys, unless somehow plasma weaponry falls under the "unnatural" side of Imagine Breaker, which I doubt. He might be handy against Ethereals, but he'd die horribly against a Muton or a Chrysalid.

I was waiting for an answer on earlier questions, but I suppose they weren't critical.
