All you know is that Munagi's white king is completely surrounded by his black pawns, and she's staring at the board with an increasingly confused expression.
No wonder she's confused: I'm pretty sure that's not even a boardstate that's possible to legally arrive at, since it would require the king to move into check

He will be SL'd, no matter the path he chooses. But this way there's a good chance we get the quiet and interesting ones. 'sides, we need to do the biggest part of the work to be the Big Brother that protects it's little bro from the deviants that will try to chase him. Like if he gets the Yandere one (not the low-key one, that can be unexpectedly cute and leaves a lot of room for character growth, I'm talking about the Yuno-looking bitch that I know is going to appear at some point). In that case we try our new fighting style with her.
Also, he will be most comfortable like this, and we will have more "bro time" and help with our studying.
These will be normal. There will be two of them, higher rolls are better.

[X] Try to convince him to be more open with people. These are the best years of his life and, as his brother, you can't stand by while he wastes them! He should live them up while he can! Even if that means doing things without you! That means getting friends and, possibly, a girlfriend!

"Yamato," you stretch your arms out while dodging around a student walking your way, "what did I say when we first got here?"
"You made a speech about how 'We are high schoolers. These will be the most important years of our lives,' he recites you word for word.
You nod to him, "Right. And what was one of those things I said will happen in High School? Specifically about friendships?"
"It was 'Forming friendships that will last a lifetime.'"
"Do you think you could do that if you don't use some of your extra free time to make some new friends?"
"No, but as I mentioned prior to your speech..."
You roll your eyes as he starts to recite what he said about Raijin back at your dorm. You didn't want to do this, but it's time to pull out your secret weapon!
Your hand goes to his shoulder, "Yam." He stops walking at the sound of his nickname, turning his full attention to you. You look him in his blank eyes and squeeze his shoulder a bit, "It's true, things in life are risky. Some things aren't easy to do nor see all the way through. But much of the time they end up being so worthwhile. Don't fear risky actions, embrace them, and overcome the odds! That's what being alive is all about."
A soft smile moves your face. His expression doesn't change. For a moment, you start doubting if you got through to him.
[Bond: He's My Best Friend AND Brother; Check Auto Pass]
Then he turns his face back to the hallway with a nod, "I suppose you are right, brother. It'll take some time, but I should be able to dedicate some time to spend mingling with my peers. I would have to make less time for our study sessions. You are aware of this?"
Your smile widens and you pat him on the back, "Of course! Don't worry about me too much! If there's one thing you know about me, it's how I defy expectations!"
You pump your fist which causes some of the students passing you by to grimace. Your bro rolls his eyes but doesn't step away from you, "Based on previous data of how you've succeeded in battles where you were outnumbered, then I am inclined to agree."
You laugh as the two of you start walking again. You don't know what brought on your bro's funk, but you'll break him outta it eventually. And this is the first step.

As the weekend winds down, your classes start in earnest, and you can't stop the feeling of dread that comes over you. Sure you've made sure to study beforehand, but this isn't your average High School. This is where the kids are expected to oversee multi-million dollar companies which higher thousands of people every day. Light studying isn't gonna be enough to get you through this!
At least, that's what you thought until you went to your first English class. Either your studying paid off, the Gods decided to bless you, or you are actually smart and just don't know it. Point is, you managed to not only follow everything on the first day but managed to get props from the teacher. He even gave you five of these weird, plastic coins when class was over. He said they were "tokens" and his way to reward you for a job well done.
[Perception Check: Objects: 0/10: Fail!]
You had no idea what the fuck they were for though. Maybe you could ask Yamato about it later?

"Halt, my Lord."
Your instincts kick in as Yato's voice echoes in your head. You unconsciously bend your knees and put your fist up as your eyes dart around you. Your out behind the main school building with the dorms directly to your left. To your right, a wing filled with classrooms, and students are just leaving their classes. Ten steps ahead of you is a fountain, water gushing from the beak of the stone bird sitting on top of it.
"What is it, Yato?" you see the gauntlets start materializing on your arms. You quickly scan the area again, breathe a silent sigh of relief when it looks like you're alone, and turn your attention back to the matter at hand, "Is something coming?"
"One of my kind is near," the deep voice echoes as you feel his spiritual energy begin to encase your body, "A Monster. Be on your guard."
"Why? Don't think they'll be as nice as you are?" you chuckle as you move your arms up and your legs apart to get into the stance for the Unyielding Mountain. If they're a Monster and hostile, you doubt simple street fighting is gonna be enough to take them.
Yato doesn't reply for a few seconds. Then he yells in your head, "To your left!"
You turn your head, body tensed up and ready to block an attack...only to pause as a girl comes over and wraps her arms around you. Her orange locks fall around her shoulders as she starts sobbing into your uniform.
"H-h-hey!" you shout, tension immediately leaving your body while you try to get the girl off you, "Ju-just calm down! What happened!?"
You look up as footsteps reach your ears, staring at the path the girl must've taken to get to you. It ends in a dark space between two of the dorm buildings, too far for you to make anything out. You don't even catch a glimpse of whoever made the sound. You curse under your breath and turn your attention to the girl. You manage to pull her away, "Calm down, Miss. Tell me what....happened..."
Any questions you have for her die the moment you get a full look at her.
[Resistance Check: Mental: 0/20: Fail!]
Because holy crap is she beautiful! Every part of her is perfect! Perfectly smooth face with not a blemish in sight. Skin that radiates with the smell of cherry blossom leaves in full bloom. Golden eyes that pierce right into your soul. She's a maiden in full bloom! A girl any guy would fall over their feet to get!
"Oh, thank you," her voice is what you imagine divine spirits sound like, "Thank you so much! I....someone was chasing me a-and...I was so scared! Thank you for saving me!"
Hearing those words makes you puff your chest out with pride, "Ha! Of course! What kind of man would I be if I let a young girl get harassed and not act!? It goes against my Code Of Honor!"
Her giggle makes your pride swell even higher. She steps up to you and places a hand on your shoulder, "It is so hard to find men like you in this day and age. Here, have this as a thank you 'Hero'." She leans forward and pecks your cheek before moving passed you.
You place a hand to your cheek and turn to watch her leave. She gives you a little wave as she heads towards the door to the main building. You pump your fist when she turns around and whisper to Yato, "Yes! Did you see that Yato?! I get my first high school rom-"
"My Lord," Yato's hard voice cuts your celebratory mood short, "I must instruct you to curb your happiness. Though you may not realize it, your life was in danger during that whole exchange."
"What?" you can't help but feel a sense of unease rise in your chest, "What are you talking about?"
"As you are still training your mental defenses, I shall help you see the truth. Before she leaves, look at the girl again."
Not sure where he's going with this you wait for the feeling of his spiritual energy to flow into your mind. The feeling isn't bad, but it's certainly weird. It always feels like something is massaging your brain if that makes any sense. Either way, you turn back to the girl and...
[Combined Resistance Check: Mental 40 (0+40)/20: Success! +5XP to Hayato]
....Have to stop yourself from jumping back in surprise.
"Wh...what the fuck?" is your only response as the massive image disappears the moment the girl enters the building. You shake your head and lift your hands to stare at Yato, "What was that thing?!"
[Supernatural: Fundamental: 40]
"A fox spirit," comes the echoing answer, "Or, to use a term you're more familiar with, a 'Kitsune'. But I suggest you refrain from referring to her as such, lest you wish for a quick death."
"Then, she's what you sensed earlier?"
"Indeed, and her presence here is worrying. She is powerful and her kind are known to be extremely cunning, elusive, spiteful, and sadistic. If left unchecked, there's no telling who she might hurt. Not to mention how she could attract the attention of those that are hunting my kind."
You think back to early and how close she managed to get. The memory of her kissing you is now tainted by the idea that she could've killed you at any moment. Your hands clench into fists as you respond, "Then why didn't you say anything? We've gotta stop her before she causes any trouble, or brings them here!" You get ready to dash after the girl before she gets too far.
"No, my Lord," his stern voice stops you in your tracks, "Her kind are masters of deception. You fell victim to her mental manipulation a few moments ago, did you not? If we were to face her here and now, she'd simply turn the school against us. Though we'd doubtlessly attain victory, it will only result in our ejection from this place. Something I believe you and Lord Yamato wish to avoid. Then there's the fact that we didn't catch a glimpse of her pursuer. Acting too rashly might gain us some unwanted attention. For now, we should return to your dwelling and create a proper strategy."
You grit your teeth as you look from Yato to the door the fox went through. You stand there until you hear the doors open and students start streaming out of the main building. Then you turn towards the dorms and start walking back to your dorm, muttering, "Damn it," repeatedly under your breath.
"Do not fret, Lord Hayato," Yato says as he begins to dematerialize, "There is a silver lining to this."
"And that's?" you ask out of sincere curiosity.
"That we have learned that a Monster does indeed attend this school...
3. Okay, Kitsune. Gotcha. Not sure why we weren't picked off. Also looks like we are going toward more actual monsters than misunderstood monsters route. Or at least, the Kitsune tend toward the former.
...though we could try diplomacy to see, if its correct.
4. Yato needed an Empathy check to say that. So clearly, their is something about the Kitsune, that makes him think its a decent enough idea. Instead of going, immediate extermination mode. Well, when we have enough time, we can investigate.
Also physical. Our martial arts competitions will probably hinge on not going down in a couple hits. Also training both would get us more techniques for unyielding mountain.

Well, if we are thinking about what to train for next week, from what i saw we prob will be able to spend only one AP with our bro, since we decided that he should be more independent, and we really should try getting our grades up, because ouch, failing all five skill checks on a prestigious academy...
With our other ap we should start on resistance training, most likely physical, unless we wish to start the fox spirit quest line, in which case it should be mental. Do we need Resistance all-50 in order to continue the training or only one in 50? Or the resistances combined need to be 50?
If we need a Resistance skill at/above 35 to improve our martial arts I'd say training Mental with Yato would be our best bet. Spiritual is tagged, so I'd rather not spend actions on it if we can get away with it, and doing Mental gives Yato the Resistance All 50 perk (assuming this quest uses them).
Of course this is a future concern, considering our school related skills need to be worked on first.

15 in Corresponding Skill = 35 Max Points in Martial Art
35 in Corresponding Skill = 50 Max Points in Martial Art
50 in Corresponding Skill = 75 Max Points in Martial Art
100 in Corresponding Skill = 100 Max Points in Martial Art
You learn whatever Martial Art the Partner knows the moment you make the contract. You start with only 10 points in it, however the Skill will be treated as a Bonus Skill and rise at the same rate as others. This will last until you 50 points in the Martial Art. At that point the Martial Art will become a Normal Skill, as the techniques start getting more difficult to learn/understand. Once it hits 75 points, the Martial Art will become a Debuffed Skill as you are getting close to completely Mastering it. You'd need to find an actual Master of the Martial Art to be able to over come this debuff.

Looking at the calcs, we will have 1 free AP on week 3. If we choose to switch out, one weekend AP, for Week 2, then we can train a Resistance. Though we'll only be able to finish getting the required scores next week.
Since we have Resistance as normal. We'd get 10 x 2.5 = 25 Points in it. During a weekend.
Of course, this is assuming we don't get any events that give bonus education or resistance points over the week. Unlikely, but possible.
"Divine Fox Spirit, or simply Fox Spirit, Lord Yamato."
"Understood," Yamato nodded to the gauntlets, closing his laptop to give the spirit his full attention, "A Divine Fox Spirit is currently hiding by morphing her appearance into that of another student. You two encountered this Monster on your way back to the dorm. You believe she was being chased and Hayato fell for her mental manipulation when you met."
You scratch the back of your neck in embarrassment, "Did you really have to add that part, bro?"
The nod he gives you makes you wince, "Every specific detail of the event must be recited to fully understand the situation. Now, Yato, you said that there is a possibility she could be an ally. Please elaborate."
[Supernatural: The Myths: 40]
"Of course, my Lord. The Fox is a sadistic, spiteful, deceiving slathern. She and those like her take pleasure in causing others suffering, and ensuring it last as long as possible. Many of your old legends have them committing acts even the most wicked of humans would find repulsive. And they commit them with smiles on their faces."
He gives the implications of the statement a few seconds to sink in. Then he continues, "However, they are still Monsters. They are of my kind. And we all have one, major flaw that can be used to bring us low; Pride. Many Monsters are extremely proud of their past status and actions. Why wouldn't they be? Humans treated them as if they were gods. They were given offerings, some had servants, and others could even bring the government itself low."
"His statements are semi-factual," Yamato's fingers tap away at his thigh while one hand is held against the side of his head, "There are numerous accounts of political figures refusing to tear down a shrine to 'avoid rousing the spirits' ire.'"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," you wave your hand through the air, patience running thin, "I get all that, but how does it help us stop her?"
"If the young Lords' wish is to make her an ally, then appeal to her pride. Divine Foxes used to be considered protectors and helpful tricksters. They were once considered wise, respected by all, and sought out to gain enlightenment. Doing so now could get her to consider parleying with you...or at least allow us to catch her off guard."
"Then, would I be correct in concluding that defeating her in combat would also suffice?" Yamato's opened his laptop back up. The rate at which he's hitting the keys would make a normal person dizzy.
"Of course," there's undertones of enjoyment in Yato's voice as he speaks, "There are plenty of stories of mortals defeating Monsters in numerous competitions, and turning them into servants. If we were to defeat her in open combat, she would be too weak to resist a Bonding Ritual. Another option is to challenge her to a game of her choice, with the condition that she be bound to one of you if she loses. However, take heed. All these options carry their own type of danger. If we are to confront her we should use what time we have to prepare ourselves. Like a predator stalks its prey, she will allow us time to believe ourselves safe then strike when we least expect it."
Both of you nod as Yato starts to disappear again. You let your body fall back on the bed, exhaustion creeping its way into your eyes. It's only Monday and things have already gotten tense. You put a hand in your pocket and feel something smooth hit your fingertip.
Your eyes shoot open and you push yourself up, "Oh yeah! Bro, do you know what these are? I got them from my English teacher today."
You hold the plastic, blue coin up for Yamato to inspect. He takes one glance at it before going back to his laptop, "A Raijin Token. They're the currency used at this Academy. There is a "shop" where you can trade them in for "rewards" inside the cafeteria. It's primarily opened on Weekdays."
"Really? Huh," you pull the Token back and start to move it between your fingers, "How'd you know all that?"
"I received twenty Tokens from my Mathematics teacher for solving a equation she wrote on the board. No one else tried to attempt it, so I was given a reward."
"Huh. Cool," you say while pocketing your Token, "So we get these when we do well in class?"
"Based on the information I gathered from my peers, all the staff and faculty may give out Tokens as rewards for students gaining achievements beyond the standard level. So, your conclusion is close."
You nod along as your bro explains it. It's basically like having a job. Impress your boss and you get rewarded for it. Guess you'll have to check out this "shop" next time you get a chance.

So, training Education with Yamato sounds good. However, SLs with Yamato seem to give significant Education skill-ups already, so maybe we should look at something else.
If we train Resistance: Mental with Yato, we'd get a +12 to that. Should be useful to deal with the Kitsune, plus Resistance skills synergies with Unyielding Mountain.
