"The Organization is here?!"

Basically my reaction. We probably should have tried to fit in more exploring before they popped up.

Shinji Josu and Shinji Aki

So they're probably Technology experts.

They might make semi-autonomous mechanical full body armor.

The blunt response takes the wind out of her sails. She doesn't lose her smile though

She's feeling well secured in her lead.

"Which means it's time...."

"....for the Thumb War."

Glad to see the Bros binding.

I think next week and weekend we need to really buckle down on training and start working on Supplementary Combat Skills as well, in preparation for Organization Bullshit.

Two Weeks left.

To get All 90+ on our relevant Martial Arts Skills we need 9 more AP, so our Weekday AP are spoken for as is 1 Weekend AP.

That leaves us with 7 more Weekend AP to spend.

If we spend 5 of that AP on Resistance: Physical with Yato that'll put us at 95 if I did the math correctly, and if we spend the remaining 2 AP with Yame, we'll hit 29 Dodging. If we don't then we can spend those two AP poking at Ri and Young as those will be our most fragile SLs.

It'll be tight and require that we basically only hang out while training, but we'll be practically guaranteed to win, will be two or three short levels away from capping our Direct Combat Skills, and set UMT to be trained without restraint.

After that we can do practically whatever training we want (or grind up to Resistance All-100!) because our core necessity Skills will be taken care of and we'll have access to several immensely powerful Perks to choose from as we level up.

"So, Yato, mind running all of that by me again, just to be sure that I heard it right?" Hayato asked, looking down at his partner, a pair of cursed gauntlets now masquerading as a pair of leather gloves.

"As I said, lord Hayato, thanks to our efforts I've managed to regain some of my memories, and I remember that I used to have a human body. And... while I have not recalled how my soul ended up this way, I have recalled a ritual that could help me reclaim my former glory." Yato answered, his voice being a mixture of eagerness and trepidation.

"And the list?" Hayato asked back, holding a piece of paper with a list on it that Yato had asked him to write.

"Well, you cannot create a human body out of nothing, we need materials for it. Namely 35 liters of water, 20 kg of coal, 4 liters of ammonia, 1.5 kg of lime..."

"Yes, yes, I get that part, I've watched and read Full Metal Alchemist. What I'm asking is what's the reason for all this cloth and leather? And all this extra fat?" Hayato listed out, raising a questioning eyebrow at his partner.

"W-well, you see, my Lord, when I still had it my body was rather... big, and I'd prefer to have it as close as possible to as it was! A-and the cloth and leather are for clothes! Unless of course, you'd wish me to appear naked..." Yato stutters, embarrassed.

Realizing what he was referring to and not wanting that mental image in his head, Hayato elected to quickly move on: "Ok, ok, I get it, I get it. But how did you manage to get the required proportions right?"

"...The fox was surprisingly helpful," Yato grumbled, clearly unhappy of having needed Yameko's help.

"You went to Yameko? I know I'm not the smartest person here, but you could have asked for my bro's help." Hayato inquired, confused. Yato was silent for a moment before answering.

"With all due respect, Lord Hayato, this is, and will be, very personal to me. You're my Lord and partner, and I'd wish only you to be there to witness my return to flesh. Your brother would have most likely wished to be present, just in case, and while I detest the fox she has knowledge of rituals like these, and after explaining myself she agreed to keep her silence until we have done the deed."

Hayato nodded, understanding how much this all meant to Yato and looked back at the list.

"Hmm, ok, most of this stuff is easy to get and inexpensive, we can probably have this done by today. The leather is going to be an issue though, what you require is not exactly cheap with everything else added." Hayato mused, deep in thought.

"I understand what I am asking is a lot, my Lord, and I'm willing to work my body to its fullest to repay you, especially as your..."

"AHA! I got it!" Hayato snapped his fingers, interrupting Yato, as he smiled, coming to a conclusion.

"So, I have your assistance, my Lord?" Yato asked, precariously.

"Of course! You're my friend and partner, of course I'll help you!" Hayato replied, giving the gloves a reassuring squeeze. "Now lets go, we have places to be and some people to find," Hayato said as he grabbed few carrier bags and headed out of the apartment.

Few hours, visited stores and one beaten biker gang later.

In the light of the sun slowly beginning to set, Hayato finished placing the last of the leather biker jackets in the middle of the magical circle he had painstakingly painted onto the ground of the abandoned warehouse, along with the other gathered materials and the gauntlets housing Yato.

"Phew, ok. Now, Yato, I trust you, but are you sure that we're not just going to be redoing a human transmutation from the beginning of Full Metal Alchemist?"

"Of course, my Lord. After all, we're not trying to resurrect someone, just recreate a human body with magic, not alchemy."

"..."

"..."

"..."

"...Also, I'm not asking for your blood, my Lord."

"Ok, but what was the point of me painting myself as well, again? I look like a weird Yakuza," Hayato asked as he looked at his bare upper body, a mass of complicated lines and magical formula on white paint covering his arms and shoulders.

"You're the conduit and anchor for this ritual, Lord Hayato. I cannot cast anything by myself, so I need you to start the ritual and supply me with your power so that I can control it. All you need to do is sit at the outermost circle, make sure that the lines on your body fit the ones on the ground, concentrate and push your power out. I will handle the rest." Yato explained, confidently.

Hayato gave Yato a smile and thumbs up. "I know you know what you're doing. Ok, lets get this party on the roll, bro is going to be so surprised when he sees you in person."

With that said, Hayato walked to the edge of the circle, sat down cross legged, positioned his arms, took a deep breath, concentrated and pushed.

As Hayato pushed his power outward, he could feel his strength slowly leave him as the circle lit up and started glowing bright blue, as Yato's gauntlets began floating in the air, soon followed by the other materials. As the materials started flowing faster and faster around Yato, like a miniature hurricane, Hayato could feel the power draw to grow bigger and bigger. Just as he was feeling that he couldn't give out anymore, there was a bright flash of light and an explosion from the center of the circle. Not large, but big enough to throw the weakened Hayato on his back.

Coughing, Hayato got back up to his wobbly legs, shouting towards the dust cloud: "Yato, buddy, can you hear me? Are you ok?"

"Yes, my Lord, I'm ok. In fact, I'm mooooooore than ok," The voice that answered was powerful and filled with confidence. And female. Most definitely female.

Looking through the dust cloud, Hayato could see a humanoid form standing in the middle of the circle as it raised its hand and swung it, creating a powerful gust of air. As the dust was blown away, Hayato's jaw dropped.

Then woman standing there was gorgeous. What first caught Hayato's eyes were both how tall she was, about head taller than him, and her hair. It was long, very long, almost down to her ankles and bright red, almost glowing in the setting sun. Her eyes as well were bright red, their intense stare making him feel like a deer caught in the headlights of a monstertruck straight out of Mad Max. A large red cape was hanging from her shoulders, but doing nothing to hide her body clad in skintight black bodysuit with blood red straps and lines attached to it. As Hayato's gazed wandered below her shoulders, he couldn't help but think:

"Huh, so that's where all that fat went."

Hayato wasn't sure how long he stood there, transfixed by her everything, only to come back to his senses as the woman started moving towards him, her sensuous hips swaying from side to side as her long legs with thighs that could choke a man moved her with long, slow, deliberate steps.

"Judging by your gaze, it seems that you're more than pleased with my body, Lord Hayato. I myself am more than pleased of the ritual's success and being back in my own body," She said, her rich and strong voice dripping like honey from her lips.

"Yato... I... Huh..." Hayato couldn't help but stutter as he instinctively took a few steps back from his partner, his back hitting the wall of the warehouse as his weakened knees could barely keep him up straight.

Yato took no mind of his stuttering, confidently striding forward until she was right in front of him: "But, my Lord, I am not quite sure yet if my body is everything we dreamed of, so I would be more than pleased if you'd help me... stress test it, my Lord." She continued, smiling as she leaned forward, placing her right hand on the wall right next to Hayato's head.

As her words sunk into Hayato's head, a furious blush rose on his face as the two round globes hanging from her chest swayed slightly with her movements right at his eye level and the images of possibilities filled his mind, all mental activity in his head came to a screeching halt, making him only capable of forming one sentence:

"I... I need an adult."

With a bright smile, Yato responded: "Do not worry, my Lord, I am an adult..." And as she leaned forward more, the final words, like a lover's caress, were whispered to his ear as her other hand began to peel off the body suit:

"And after this night, so are you."

--

With a loud gasp, Hayato Nagai jumped up in his bed, frantically looking around, but seeing no signs of the buxom warrior woman.

"Dream. It was all just a dream," He thought, letting out a calming breath, not sure if he was relieved or disappointed.

"My Lord, is everything all right?"

With an undignified yelp, Hayato jumped away from the voice, which unfortunately led to him falling off his bed. After taking few seconds to calm himself he raised his head, peaking over the side of the bed to the nightstand on the other side. But there was no eye-catching woman sitting on the stand, simply a pair of familiar looking handware.

"My Lord?"

"I'm... I'm fine, Yato. Just... Just had an unusual dream," he said, carefully getting back up and stretching his muscles.

"Now, if no one minds, I'm going to take a shower. A long, cold, shower."

Week 8.4
[A Good First Impression]

There's...not really a lot of ways you can think of to improve people's first impressions of you. At least, not now. You've already got the "exuding an aura of confidence" thing down pat. You've notice that some of the students who usually don't give you a passing glance have started doing double takes when you walk down the halls. They normally go right back to ignoring you after wards, but it's better than before.

Either way, you've done what you can to put forth a confident air. The only other thing is to make yourself look good.

And by "look good", you mean "dress like a salary-man everywhere you go."

...Yeah, you're not doing that. You've still got a few years before you have to worry about that shit.

Instead, you're just going to do what you can to make yourself at least presentable. Not like you weren't doing that before. You'll just...pay more attention to it now?

....

Maybe Yameko has some tips for you.

[New Perk Researched: A Good First Impression]

"'...And thus I humbly ask that you accept my apology for ignoring your words when we first met. Please excuse my rudeness, and understand that I meant no offense'. Signed Mitsuhide, Student Council President of Raijin Academy," you fold the letter up when you finish reading it. Your attention turns to Yamato, your brother's eyes focused on his phone as he waits for a message from Munagi, "You know you didn't have to do this, right? I really don't care about this kind of stuff."

"I am aware, brother," Yamato turns to you to reply, "However, it is something that irked me. And I felt the only way to relieve myself of that feeling was to obtain an apology for you."

"...In other words, it got under your skin and you wouldn't feel right unless you got the guy to write me this?" you point at the letter still held in your hands. Your brother nods. You shrug and place the paper in a shirt pocket. You can't exactly fault him. You would've done the same thing in his shoes. You crack your neck to get a few kinks out, "Alright, whatever. If you see him again, tell him I accept his apology. Kind of have to. Thanks to him I'm able to actually be here to help you out with this."

Your brother nods his head in agreement. You stretch out your arms, letting the morning sun's warmth wash over your body as it filters through the school hallway windows, sighing as it does, "Ah. So, any word from Munagi on the last guy's location?"

"Negative," Yamato replies while tapping away at his phone screen, "Her last communication was, 'He should be in the Robotics Club Room'. Since then she hasn't replied to me."

"Hmm, think something might be wrong?"

"Possibly."

Silence.

"Let's go check it out," you stand up straight and wave for your brother to lead the way.

"As you say," he replies and puts his phone away. You fall in line as he heads towards your destination.

"I must ask, my Lords, why is the fox not with us?" Yato asks as the two of you march your way down the halls. Your pace is quick but steady. Partially because you're sure Munagi's fine, and partially because you don't feel like attracting any attention.

"She is off learning what she can of the newcomers. I will rendezvous with her once this situation is under control," your brother answers your Partner as you turn down a hallway. Straight ahead is the Robotics Club, where you see...a rather strange sight.

Munagi has her hands on her hips as she stands just outside of the Robotic Club's room. She was staring daggers at the door...more specifically, the guy doing his best to body block the door. He was the text book example of diminutive. Skinny, slightly shorter than Munagi, with spiky brown hair, and a pair of small glasses sitting on the bridge of his nose.

While you can't tell what it is they're saying....

[Read The Room]

...you can tell that neither wants to be near the other right now.

Their conversation starts up as you and your brother approach, Munagi speaking with clear frustration in her voice, "Hagata, step aside! I merely wish to talk!"

"Then we can talk out here," the man waves an arm around at the hallway, "Plenty of space. No reason to step one foot into my Club."

"Here is much too public. What we must speak of must be done in private."

"In that case, why come to my Club room? My fellow Robotic Enthusiast are in there!"

"You can merely tell them to leave or ignore us, can you not?"

"If you were in the room? No, I couldn't."

"Why? What's wrong with me?" Munagi raises an eyebrow and crosses her arms. You haven't been around a lot of women in your time, but you do know the tell tale signs of "Choose your next words carefully" when you see it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like Hagata realizes it, "You're a girl. I can't let you in or you'll cause problems."

Oh boy. You can tell by Munagi's enraged expression that he shouldn't have said that. She gets up in his face and starts to prod at his chest, "Why you-I will not stand for such disrespect!"

"Neither will I," the two turn their heads as your bro and you step into the conversation. You wave to Munagi while your brother continues talking to your target, "I fail to see how Munagi being a female would preclude her from entering your Club room. As I understood it, such a requirement is against school policy."

"Yeah, bro," you add while crossing your arms and shaking your head, "Not a good look for the Robotics Club if they don't even let girls walk in to see what they're doing. Sounds to me like someone is purposely stopping a specific group of people from participating in an activity."

All three of you start to glare at Hagata. Munagi's gaze is smoldering with anger, trying to burn a hole through the dude's head. Yamato's is less emotional and more calculated to express the most displeasure possible. While you just give your best judging glare.

To the guy's credit he doesn't look even the least bit intimidated. He places a hand on his head and sighs, "You two would be the Nagai brothers, correct? Figures you'd be coming after me next."

"You know why we're here then?" Yamato asks the guy.

"Yeah, but I didn't expect you to send your girlfrien-"

"I AM NOT-" you all jump at Munagi's sudden shrill shout. Well, you and Hagata jump. Your brother simply turns his head towards the blonde. Munagi's face goes red as she takes a moment to compose herself, "I-I-I, ahem, I meant to say, I am not his girlfriend. And you're distracting us from the matter at hand. What does me being a girl have to do with me entering your Club room?"

Munagi's short outburst has caused a small crowd to gather around you. This seems to unsettle Hagata, as his eyes start to scan the curious and sometimes angry faces of the gathering group. He sighs in frustration before turning his back to you. He takes out a key and unlocks then holds the door open for you, "Fine, fine, come in. But don't blame me for what happens."

The three of you share a look. Munagi is the first through the door, followed by Yamato, then by you. You stop at the threshold and turn to Hagata, "Say, why not just explain why you wouldn't let Munagi in? Probably would've made things go smoother and stop us from jumping to conclusions."

"Yeah, but you wouldn't believe me unless you saw it for yourself," is his answer.

You raise an eyebrow. Now you're curious.

...And now you regret that curiosity.

"Madame, thank you for gracing our fair Club room with your radiance. Please, allow me to give you a guided tour of our abode."

"No, no, no. You can't possible want to engage with a rube such as him. Here, let me show you our latest projects."

"Both of you clearly don't know how to entertain a lady. You should go back to your toys while I show her the glories of computer programming."

Yamato and you watch in cringing agony as the three other club members, all young men dressed like your stereotypical pretty boys, all keep attempting to flatter Munagi.

...No, attempting is too generous.

Judging by the perpetual angry frown on Munagi's face, her hands balled up in her lap, and the constant twitch of her eyebrow, they are failing hard.

It's honestly kind of hard to watch.

Kind of.

But, you know, "train crash, so horrible, can't look away" and such.

"Hey, guys," the three look up as Hagata walks over to the rectangular table you've all sat around with three bundles of wires in his arms. They vaguely resemble human shapes but you...

[Invention: 9]

....can't make heads or tails of the stuff.

He gently drops it on the table, directing a smile at his three club members, "Could we maybe get back to working on our Club Project? We do need to have something finished before Midterms come around you know."

There's silence for a moment as the three stare at their Club President.

Then they go right back to trying to flatter Munagi. This time flashing numerous wads of yen, that you're pretty sure just make Munagi's frown get deeper.

Hagata's smile disappears as he hangs his head and sighs, "That's what I thought."

He pulls up a chair and sits down at the head of the table. Then he turns to you and your brother while jerking his head towards Munagi, "See? That's why I didn't want her in here. Those three completely lose themselves the moment a girl walks into their line of sight."

"So, you didn't want Munagi in here, because you knew those three would do...that?" you wave towards the scene in front of you as...is one of them kneeling? And holding up a pair of movie tickets? The fuck...?

"Yep."

"Might I ask, why they behave like this in the presence of a female?" Yamato questions the President.

"Cause they're a bunch of sheltered rich brats who don't know the first thing about women. The only thing they do know is how to build and program mechanical devices. Thus why I let them in my Club."

[Yamato Invention: 69]

"Expected, considering you were able to get the skeleton of a personal humanoid robot built," your brother waves towards the bundle of wires on the table. You stare at the bundle in confusion, trying to make out what your brother is talking about.

Hagata, meanwhile, looks impressed, "Pretty astute. The rumors about you weren't full of crap. You sure you don't want to join up?"

"I have other engagements at the moment."

"Dang. With you on our team we be a shoe-in for that grant money."

"I see. But that is neither here nor there. We must move on to more pressing matters. But first," your brother stands up and walks around the table. He stands over the three men crowding Munagi and coughs into his hand to get their attention, "Could the three of you please extricate yourselves from Munagi's personal space?"

The three turn their gaze to Yamato. They stand shoulder to shoulder and array themselves in front of him. Your hackles start to rise but you stay seated. Yamato did this of his own initiative. He should have this in the bag.

....You're still ready to jump the table if you have to.

"Now, who would you happen to be?" one of the trio asks.

"Oh, I recognize him from the rumors. He is Nagai Yamato."

"Truly?"

"Yes, he joined the Chess Club. Of which our dear Munagi is President of."

The three hum in unison. Munagi is watching the exchange with her lips turned down. She starts to get up from her seat, when they all ask at the same time, "What is your relationship with her?"

She freezes in place. Her expression changes to a mixture of embarrassment, shock, anger, and just a hint of curiosity.

But if the three were expecting to get the same reaction out of your brother, they had another thing coming.

"She is a close friend and confidant, and the three of you are bothering her with your unwarranted questions. She clearly has no want to interact with any of you otherwise she would've replied to any of your comments," he says evenly and without hesitation.

The three are silent after that. Munagi's staring at your brother, a blush expanding across her face at his words. The club members look at each other, shrug, then move away from Munagi.

"Understood. If our activities make a lady feel uncomfortable, then we shall cease them immediately."

The three go over to the bundles of wires and start doing...stuff with them. Stuff that you don't understand.

Hagata whistles, "Dang. Never seen that happen before. Well, not so peacefully anyway. Most people just start yelling at those jerks until they back off. Your brother's good at handling situations like this, huh?"

"Yeah, I guess so," you smile while nodding to Yamato, who is checking to make sure Munagi is unharmed. She assures him that she is, and that she didn't need his help to handle those three. He then apologizes if his actions undermined her autonomy in anyway. Which causes her to backtrack and say that's not what she meant. Which then leads to the two going back and forth like that, with Munagi getting progressively redder and redder.

"So, about why we came here-"

"If it's about what happened during the raid, consider me no longer apart of it," he's quick to say to you, "I didn't want anything to do with that shit in the first place."

"Really?"

"Yeah. But I've known Semisu and Noki since we were kids...mostly cause our parents forced us to interact with each other. So, when those two said they wanted to get back at the person they think was the leader of that Raid, I knew they would come to me. But when I heard the two of you managed to get them to back off, I saw my opportunity to do the same."

[Trickery: 3]

You raise an eyebrow, "Huh? But we didn't get Noki to back off."

"Really? Who did?"

"The Student Council President."

"No shit."

"Yeah. He talked to them for us."

"Huh. Ok."

There's silence.

"So, what you doing after this?"

"I have a date."

"Sweet. Good luck."

"Thanks."

[Hagata pacified! All three targets dealt with! Agano Quest Complete! +50 XP to you and Yamato!]

Finally got it in. Sorry if it's kind of short.

I have a big plan for the next two parts, so I'm gonna get started on those as soon as I can.

And by "look good", you mean "dress like a salary-man everywhere you go."

...Yeah, you're not doing that.
Good decision, Hayato.

Not yet, you mean.
...And now you regret that curiosity.

Yamato and you watch in cringing agony as the three other club members, all young men dressed like your stereotypical pretty boys, all keep attempting to flatter Munagi.
...Ah, I see now.
[Yamato Invention: 69]
Nice.

Adorable, can't wait till we manage to get our bro to open up his feelings.
You raise an eyebrow, "Huh? But we didn't get Noki to back off."

...This sounds like me doing small talk and I feel slightly called out.
[Hagata pacified! All three targets dealt with! Agano Quest Complete! +50 XP to you and Yamato!]
Great!

You've noticed that some of the students who usually don't give you a passing glance have started doing double takes when you walk down the halls. They normally go right back to ignoring you after_wards, but it's better than before.
You can't possibley want to engage with a rube such as him.
With you on our team we'd be a shoe-in for that grant money.
So, when those two said they wanted to get back at the person they think was the leader of that Rraid

Eh, just loan them to help an all-girl club, one at a time. There is only so much talk about boy bands and nail polish a man can stand. They'll be asking to be let back behind the sheltering doors of the Robotics Club soon enough, and will never be led astray again.

And by "look good", you mean "dress like a salary-man everywhere you go."
Suits are way more stiff than the media shows. Seriously, I love the style, but fuck moving around while wearing one.
...And now you regret that curiosity.

"Madame, thank you for gracing our fair Club room with your radiance. Please, allow me to give you a guided tour of our abode."

When you think that the nerd is just being a misogynistic little shit, but turns out that he's trying to save the chick from the cringe fate that is being surrounded by a bunch of simps.
[Yamato Invention: 69]
Nice.

Applied the 50XP finally. Turns out Yamato Leveled Up. I have applied the appropriate things, save the Perk which I will reveal at a later date.

Applied the 50XP finally. Turns out Yamato Leveled Up. I have applied the appropriate things, save the Perk which I will reveal at a later date.

That means the sheet is updated!

Time to take a looksee!

Culture:
- Art: 26
- Music: 26
- Religion: 26

Culture All-20. That'll probably help provide some Social Buffs by providing context to things.

Invention (+):
- Necessity (+) (Edison): 26
- Practicality (+) (Ford): 26
- Extravagance (+) (Tesla): 26

Invention All-20, which we knew about in a way with the Nice check pass.

Education (+):
- History (+): 69
- English (+): 41
- Mathematics (+): 72

1 AP away from the All-50, though I feel like all the AP Yam spent helping us out should have pushed English further than that, because we got Empathy gains when we spent AP helping him out?

2 AP away from the Math 100, and I'm damn curious about what the upper Education perks are about.

Empathy (-):
- Motives (-): 30
- Feelings (-): 18
- Interests (-): 6

So close to the All-20! After the Tournament we should really help him get there, and help him hit the Skill Gated Plot Progression as well.

Tactics (+):
- Sun Tzu (+) (Preparation): 6
- Alexander (+) (Cleverness): 36
- Patton (+) (Overwhelming Logistics): 26

Looks like he's got some work in for the Tactics All-20, and with that level he's 1 AP away from it.

Supernatural:
- Fundamental Knowledge (The What): 38
- Persons Of Interest (The Who): 6
- The Myths Themselves (The How and Why): 18

Looks like he's been chipping away at figuring out all of this. Wouldn't be the worst idea to study with Yam.

- Shadow Fox Style - (Yameko) 16 (Current Cap: 75)

And 1 AP has been spared for Sneaky Fox Fighting, we should definitely try to find some time to spar with Yam using our Styles so we both have a sense of how they work in practical combat situations.

Barter:
- Smuggling: 6
- Business: 29
- Trade: 6

Looks like bro's dropping some AP here and there to keep up on the "Who Are Our Rich Classmates?" Skill.

Speech (-):
- Diplomacy (-): 29
- Persuasion (-): 6
- Intimidation (-): 6

I am just, so damn proud of you Yam, struggling to get Diplomacy up like that.

Resistance:
- Physical (Your Body): 6
- Mental (Your Mind): 21
- Spiritual (Your Spirit): 6

This makes sense. Yam's brain is his biggest asset, we have evidence of Mind Messery and a Kitsune buddy to train it with, so getting his brain protected is just sense.

We'll need to cover the other two ends of it in his stead.

Perception:
- People (Determining Skills of other person.): 6
- Environment: 6
- Objects (Knowing what an object truly is.): 16

Man, neither of us can see for shit. Once we both hit level 4 we should spend a turn working together to push for the All-20 so we're not completely blind.

And he's confirmed for over 100 in a Skill. Now we just need to catch up to him!

To the Dojo!

Week 8.5/Week 9
"So, let me get this straight," Ritsuko says while tossing a stray rock at the water beyond the city's pier. It skips five times before sinking into the murky blue water, "You're going to be the only guy from your school fighting in this Mixed Martial Arts Tournament thing?"

You throw your own rock at the water. You click your tongue as it stops at four skips before sinking. Then you reply, "Yup. It's a 'Special Circumstance' thing for 'Prodigies'. Called the Sole Participant."

Ritsuko gives an unemotional grunt in response before going quiet. When you called her, she told you to come to the pier on the edge of the city. It took a bus ride and some serious shortcuts through alleyways to get here on time, but you managed to make it just before she sate down on the edge of the pier. You soon joined her, your legs dangling off the edge just barely being touched by the waves below.

The two of you made small talk from there. Her family has been bugging her to come see her tutors rather than skip out on lessons when she can. According her she's doing fine in school and can't see why she would need a tutor. You asked where she goes, but she waved it off while saying, "Some cushy all girls place." From there it got to your acceptance as the Sole Participant and....

[Read The Room]

....her mood went downhill from there.

"What? Is something wrong with me doing that?" you try to keep your tone as neutral as possible. You don't want to make her think you're mad at her, or make her mad at you.

"No....well, yes....kind of," she hems and haws a bit before shaking her head, "I don't fucking know. It just seems unreasonable to me."

"What do you mean?"

"Eh, it just doesn't sit right. Your entire Club placing all that pressure and expectations on a high school kid."

You shrug, "I don't think of it like that."

"Yeah, cause you're nice and confident, Nagai," she picks up another rock and throws it. Three skips this time.

"They don't exactly have much choice. What with the other schools effectively threatening them to keep all their experienced fighters out."

"Yeah, but why you? Why not someone else?"

"Like I said. All the other experienced fighters are being forced to step back. Either through pressure, or because they're injured. One of my Kohai's has a broken arm."

She shakes her head again while you throw another rock. Four skips. You playfully smile at her, "You know you sounded liked a worried mother just then, right?"

"Bite me," she playfully punches your shoulder and laughs. You join her for a bit. Then she goes quiet again. Another rock is thrown. Five skips. Seems to be her limit, "Seriously though, don't run yourself ragged Nagai. If you're ever feeling overwhelmed, it's OK to drop somethings if you need to improve your health."

You smile and give her playful shove, "Didn't think you cared that much about me. Think I might have won a bit more from our first fight than I thought."

You take joy in seeing her cheeks heat up. A laugh escapes you as she turns to respond, "Hey! I just don't want to see my only guy friend limping next time we hang out!"

Her words make you pause, "Wait, 'only guy friend'?"

She turns back towards the water below, "Oh, that, it's nothing. Just...uh...try not to let any of my dad's employees or Yuna know we hang out, OK?"

"Why not?"

"Just trust me on this."

[Relationship Rank: 4/10]

You narrow your eyes, but let the subject drop. It's pretty clear this is something she doesn't want to talk about right now. And you're not gonna push her on it. The two of you lapse into silence for a bit longer, the only sound that of the birds overhead or the waves below. Then you stand up and stretched your arms, "Well, I'm bored and hungry. Want to follow me to this ramen place I found on the way here? It looked pretty good."

Her face beams with happiness, "Sounds fun." She stands up, drops the rock she had gotten to throw, then motions for you to lead the way. Which you do.

Ramen eaten with a pretty girl at your side tastes delicious.

[Ritsuko Relationship Points Increased by +3]

You started looking for Elizabeth the moment you were free. Finding her wasn't hard. Talking to her was. The girl was always surrounded by at least ten other students, boys and girls, that body blocked you the entire time. You're guessing it's cause she's a transfer student; something new and exotic to the student body. They're impressed with seeing someone outside of their normal social circles, and want to get to know her and her strange world.

...or maybe they're after business deals with a foreigner.

Fifty-fifty shot around here.

You finally managed to catch her right when gym ended. She was talking to two other girls when you called out to her. She made some excuses then headed over to you. From there the two of you went on a walk around the school. You made mostly mundane small talk, telling each other about yourselves. She was born and raised in Europe. She transferred here to "get more cultured" as she puts it.

Honestly, her Japanese is pretty dang good. You can hardly even hear an accent when she speaks.

[Pantomath]

When you tell her so, she says 'Thank you' in English. So, you reply with 'You're welcome' in English.

That surprises her. She didn't expect to meet someone here who could speak her language as well as you do. You simply say you had a lot of practice with a good tutor.

Things lapse into more small talk from there. You tell her about the school, the Tournament coming up, your bro, the works.

Then she asks you something weird.

"Myths?" you ask back while pausing in front of the track and field yard, "What do you mean?"

"You know," she skips in front of you, tilting her head to the side as she speaks, "like folktales and urban legends. Do you like that kind of thing?" she starts twirling a stray hand strand around her finger.

[The Dreamer]

You feel the widest grin come over your face. You stretch your arms out while saying, "Well, not to brag, but I am something of an expert on the supernatural."

"Really?!" her eyes sparkles with curiosity and wonder.

"In fact, I actually believe those old tales are 100% true. And that monsters still live among us! They simply don't want to show themselves anymore," you give the speech you've been practicing in front of the mirror, complete with hands curling into fists as you stare out into the distance with determination.

...Granted, that belief has been proven true in the last few weeks, but you don't want to tell her that.

To be honest, you're expecting her to start walking away. Even though you believe it, you're well aware that what you're saying sounds crazy.

"Huh! You do too?!" your confused 'Huh?' is stopped when she grabs your hand and starts shaking it up and down, "We've have got to compare notes! Come find me after classes are over! Oh, this is gonna be so fun!"

With that she skips away in the direction of the gym locker rooms.

Well, that wasn't what you were expecting.

Still though...

"What do you think, Yato?" you think to your Partner while starting off towards your dorm, "She on the level?"

[Yato: Trickery + Motives = 30 + 0 = 30/50: Fail!]

"I am...unsure my Lord. I am certain she is no supernatural shape shifter. Else I would've sensed something. But beyond that...."

You nod, "Yeah-"

[Trickery + Motives = 3 + 33 = 36/50: Fail!]

"-I couldn't really get a read on whether she was being straight with us either..."

[Read The Room]

[Feelings + Interest: 35 + 20 = 55/25: Success! +10 XP]

"...but I could tell that she does actually believe that the supernatural exist. That enthusiasm she showed me was real, and the way her mood completely changed from curiosity to a feeling of belonging wasn't fake."

"In other words, she at least believes that my kind exists."

"But we don't exactly know what that means."

The two of you go silent as you walk to the dorm.

Then you shrug and clap your hands together, "Oh well. I've got a new friend at least. That's always a good thing."

"Indeed, my Lord. Having allies is a wonderful thing."

[Unlocked Elizabeth Young as an SL! New Weekend Event Unlocked!]

[History: 56]

"Yato, I have a question," you say while pulling your gloves on. The sun shines through the windows of the living room as you get ready for the day classes begin again, "You were around during Hideyoshi's time as Shogun, right?"

"Yes, my Lord."

"Well, were you a Samurai?"

"I believe so."

"Then what Clan were you apart of?"

"...I...I'm unsure. My memories are not that-"

"Was it a Minor one?" you ask while pulling on your socks, "If it wasn't then we probably would've learned about it by now."

"...I think it was," Yato's voice begins to take on a wistful tone as he continues, "....we may have been a...low ranking Clan...or were we just unknown?"

"If it was Minor, then we could probably find something about it in an obscure text somewhere, maybe Yamato can-"

"No...no, my Lord. You won't find it that way."

You stop in front of the door to your room. You look down at your gloves with a raised eyebrow. "Why wouldn't we? If it was Minor then-"

[Yato Relationship Rank increased by 3 (1 + Omake)!]

"It was not Minor. It wasn't meant to exist."

"What?"

"My Clan...I still cannot remember it's name...but I do know what our purpose was. We were meant to fight against the things that haunted people's nightmares. The things that normal people couldn't hope to stand up to. To be the bulwark between the world of mortals, and the world of the supernatural," Yato says the entire paragraph with a clinical tone. It reminds you of your brother, but the lack of emotion feels more eerie. Did it get colder in the room or is it just you?

Wait...did Yato just say...?

"So, you're Clan...It fought..."

"Yes. We fought and killed supernatural creatures."

....Oh.

Well, that explains a lot.

"My Lord, and please forgive me if I sound ungrateful or presumptuous, but I must ask you to not ask about my past until we have performed the ritual," Yato pleads with you.

"Huh? Why? That's not fair!" this is the most you've learned about your Partner so far, and he's telling you to stop!? The heck!

"I understand your frustration, Lord Hayato. But, please. It is...If you are to learn the full story behind my past, it is better for you to see it all for yourself."

[Empathy: Above 50]

...Yato's being sincere.

And he's scared. You can tell.

This is...this is hard to take. You haven't seen this guy scared yet. Granted, you haven't had him for that long but still....

"....Alright, Yato. If that's what you want."

"Thank you, my Lord."

Ok, a few things:

1. No the thing with Yato is not an Arbitrary Limit I decided to put on you guys. I mapped out Yato's Past already and, let me tell you, it gets DARK. As such, Yato doesn't want you to learn it through his biased take nor the take of someone else. He wants you to see it for yourself and make your own judgements. The reason it blocks the Relationship increasing is...something you'll have to find out.

2. I ended up not going through with the "big plans" I had with Elizabeth and the Organization, cause I realized it wouldn't make any sense if I did it now. So, hopefully this was good.

3. You'll learn what Yamato managed to discover about the Organization Goons in the next Update.

Well we need to prep for the tournament. I'd rather do that all now just in case something happens during the next turn.

I assume training for the tournament will have us use the trainers without us having to specify that
