It could be a sign that Yato is gay, without reflecting on Yamato.

Or it could potentially be a sign that Yato isn't as male as he thinks; we don't know what he looked like as a human, and it's pretty strongly implied that he's forgotten a lot after turning into the haunted gauntlets.

I just thought it would be funny to mention.

Cause I realized it at the same time as Hayato did.

Well, where there is a Mons series there will always be people that turn them into waifus. If they look like waifus in the first place, that just becomes more true.

I mean, the primary reason Yameko's a girl is because it's a harem series quest too and she was introduced to be the Hero's partner; Hiroko being a girl is because she's Yameko's runaway sister; and I'm pretty sure the only other supernatural we've met was reader-submitted (and you can safely bet that a majority of reader-submitted characters will be waifus).

You do realize the anime watchers of this "quest" are going to go bananas over this?
Smth smth Yato x Hayato with us being the top and such?
There will also be those guys who decide "Yato must be a girl pretending to be a guy!" and cite the dream sequence (Immobile No More omake) as proof.

I loved this, you portrayed them both really well, LoS.
Well, you came out here to make friends.

So, lets do that.

[CSC: Motives + Persuasion = 30 + 33 = 63 VS DC: 50: Success]
Phew, we succeeded.
"Salutations...creature," the sound of your Partner's deep, ringing voice makes her eyes widen even more. Yato takes this as a reason to keep speaking, "I am the Partner of Lord Nagai Hayato, brother of Lord Nagai Yamato. We have come seeking an accord with you and any you consider allies."
Oh, I can just feel the frustration of not knowing what Aina is emanating from Yato. :D
Everyone's gaze whips to the east. From within the tall grass, a man just a bit older than you rises to his full height.
LOOK TO THE EAST!!! And FTFY.
"KEISHI!" the monster shouts before bounding over to the human. She stands in front of him, teeth bared to the two of you while her tails wrap around the newcomer's waist.
Never threaten husbando when waifu is close by.
Keishi doesn't respond at first. Not because he refuses to. But because he's busy calming down the monster. He's at her side, hands running up and down her fur. Her tails stay wrapped around him but every time he touches her she starts to relax.

"Easy, Aina, easy," he says in a soothing voice, hand rubbing her head right in between her horns. She keeps her eyes locked onto you two, one leg in front of Keishi despite the fact that he is moving forward of his own admission. But, while she is still on guard, it's clear the young man's presence is calming her down. Much of the tension in her body is gone and her gaze softens every time she looks his way.
Awww.
[Motives + Feelings: 33 + 35 = 68]

[Keishi Motives + Feelings: ???]

....

The two of you blink at the same time.

Then you both let out tension filled sighs at the same time.

"It's alright, Yamato-"

"It's alright, Aina-"

"He's a good dude," you both say in unison.

You turn to Keishi at the same time as he turns to you.

You both blink at the same time again. Yamato doesn't look that bothered, but Aina's confused gaze keeps moving from Keishi to you.

Then the both of you start laughing. You both walk forward and meet half-way in the field of tall grass. Yato disappears when you ask him to, and you hold out your right hand for a shake. You smile at the guy, "Sorry about that. How about we start this off right? Nagai Hayato."

"Sakutaro Keishi," Keishi grabs your hand softly. He doesn't seem to have a very strong grip. Must not train that much. Though considering he's Partnered up with a Supernatural, saying he couldn't throw a punch would probably be a mistake.

Same energy.
He nods but takes on a solemn expression, "To be honest...I'm not that shocked. That place was always crap. The students were crap. The faculty were crap. Everything was...crap."
Yeah, a real shithole.
"That will be decided by many factors that we have little control over," Yamato admits before sipping from his own drink. It's just regular water, but he seems to be enjoying it a lot, "Such as the response of their parents, their significant others, the police, and the school itself."
Bro, no need to be such a logic engine all the time.
"Boy have I heard that before," you roll your eyes with a smile. Then you point a finger at him, "Also, are you sure you're older than me? You hardly come up to my shoulders."

"I am. Some adults just...happen to not get growth spurts after they leave high school," he says sheepishly, trying to avoid your gaze.
Aina doesn't complain. It makes him easier to hug.
"Holy!" you exclaim at the sight of a wide, fist sized, circular scar on the guy's stomach. Yamato expression is still stoic, but you've known him long enough to know that even he's surprised.

[Medicine: Surgery: 3]

[Yamato Medicine: Surgery: 6]

Mainly because neither of you know how the hell that happened.
Yeah, must look pretty gnarly.
"Told him to go fuck himself," he says with a smug grin.

"Nice," you give him a thumbs up.
Nice.
At the mention of her name, Aina immediately tackles Sakutaro. He grunts as he falls to the ground, suddenly finding himself in a rather fluffy and strong hug.

"Keishi! Save!" she shouts while cuddling the human in her embrace.

"Ye-yes you...di-did...Aina. Can...you...let go? Hard to...breathe..."
The dreaded glomp.
Sakutaro shakes his head, "Sorry. I can't remember much of it. I just remember hearing a voice in my head, then saying the words 'I do'. After that...I was Aina's Partner. Do you remember, Aina?"

Aina is...blushing?

She has her hands on her cheeks which are glowing red by this point. Her wings are wrapped around her while her tails whip back and forth. She turns to Sakutaro, giggles, then turns away again.
Cute.
"...Guess she's not telling," you say with a sigh.

Sakutaro chuckles, sweat dripping down his brow.
Oh, like you two don't already have an idea.
"What?" he shakes his head, "But...but Aina's really strong."

"Yeah. And I'm really tough. And I've got Yato with me," you materialize the gauntlets on your hands, startling the Kirin graduate somewhat. Aina lets out another low growl at the sight but you don't let that bother you. You clang your gauntlets together, the ringing sound they make music to your ears, "Our whole thing is being able to take every punch the enemy throws at us. So long as we're together, nothing's getting through our rock hard defense. Ain't that right, Yato?"
Lets hope you never have to end up fighting each other seriously.
"In that case, keep an eye out," he says with a frown, "There was this one girl who managed to break the norm at the school. She actually seemed interested in studying and graduating. I doubt she got involved in the raid, so she's probably still at the school....maybe."
Reference!
"Keishi!"

"Uuuwwaaa!"

You both hear a thump as soon as you're out the door.

Followed by the sound of a guy being smothered beneath fluff and fur.
EXTREME CUDDLING!!! I love this.
"I just noticed that all of the Bonded Pairs we know of, as of now, are either a guy and a girl or two girls. I'm the only one around here with a male for a Partner."
Well, to be fair, it wasn't until Aina and Keishi appeared that broke the 1v1v1 stalemate. Can't wait till Estella and Irina appear. You thought Aina and Kaishi were lovey-dovey...

Wohoo!
Oh man, Keishi acquired a Magical Waifu and doesn't even know it. Poor man, I pity the girl that tries to woo him in Aina's presence.
Aina:
I suppose Yato being male and bonded to us is just to ensure we the players won't try to woo our partner.
We did have a chance for a female Partner in the character creation.
Or it could potentially be a sign that Yato isn't as male as he thinks; we don't know what he looked like as a human, and it's pretty strongly implied that he's forgotten a lot after turning into the haunted gauntlets.
There will also be those guys who decide "Yato must be a girl pretending to be a guy!" and cite the dream sequence (Immobile No More omake) as proof.
If it were to be actually the case that Yato is a female, I am going to laugh my ass off.
I'm pretty sure the only other supernatural we've met was reader-submitted (and you can safely bet that a majority of reader-submitted characters will be waifus).
Hey now. I've done no such thing. Well, guess Aina, Irina and Estella are waifus, but not for our main duo! And Yato is not a waifu, unless that dream sequence ends up predicting the future and he was a she all along!

...Wait, am I digging myself into a hole or out of it, I can't tell anymore.

On The Boards
Cause I feel like having some fun:

Article:
Kun 1: Hey, has anyone been watching that new anime that came out?

Kun 2: Who watches anime anymore?

Kun 3: Kun 1 stop being a spaz. There's like one hundred anime pumped out every week nowadays.

Kun 1: I'm talking about the one with the brothers? One a huge muscle-headed himbo, while the other's supposed to be Kira/Lelouch Levels of smart?

Kun 2: Rings a bell.

Kun 4: *Post Cover Image of "Brotherly Love And Monsters"*

Kun 4: *Sees Monster Girl Waifu's*

Kun 4: *Also sees it's Harem Trash*

Kun 4: Hmmm.......

Kun 1: Yeah! That's it!

Kun 2: Huh. Seems kind of interesting.

Kun 3: Is that shit slice of life, or martial arts, or what?

Kun 1: I think it's all of them. Like there have been some pretty good fight sequences every now and then. But the story is mostly focused on the two brothers on the cover. Hayato and Yamato Nagai.

Kun 4: Be honest with me Kun 1...how deep into Harem Trash is this show?

Kun 1: Uh, not much actually. Like, I'm not even sure you can call it a Harem. They've only got like one girl in the main party. Most of the scenes that feature the girls outside of that have been relatively normal. Like they're just hanging out, not constantly vying for one of the MCs' affections.

Kun 3: I don't buy it. Shounen stuff like this has to have some Harem stuff.

Kun 5: Hey there. I've heard of this show on other Boards. They say that the guy running the Production takes weeks to get even one episode out. They're usually pretty mediocre, but have a lot of love and passion put into them. Something missing from most shows nowadays.

Kun 2: *Kun 5 says something that has been said about every show at least once*

Kun 2: Sure it is.

Kun 5: Believe what you want.

Kun 6: Don't bother watching that show. It's the same old Shounen crap with Power Of Friendship Bullshit. Strong-Man, Dumb-Guy, Big Brother MC walked into the middle of a School Gang Fight and got out unscathed. Completely bullshit.

Kun 5: That's actually done on purpose.

Kun 1: Yeah. The Production Leader has gone on record saying "We're not trying to make something new. We're trying to make something fun. We do things that have been done before, yes, but we believe that that's a good thing. Things are retold in stories for a reason: Because they're timeless. So, that's our objective. Not to make something new. But to make something timeless."

Kun 6: Sounds like a garbage excuse for a garbage show from a garbage production company.

Kun 2: Seems cool. I might give it a try...

Kun 5: Nice. Pretty sure there are other Boards talking about it. But whatever you do, don't go into any of the Boards where they're discussing shipping. It is...well...

Meanwhile, at one of the Shipping Boards:

Kun 1: Yamato X Hayato forever!

Kun 2: Fuck you, you disgusting incest loving, scum of the earth! We all know Yameko is the one who belongs with Hayato!

Kun 3: Does no one else see the obvious chemistry between Hayato and Ritsuko? No? Just me?

Kun 4: Those two don't have chemistry. They've only shared like ten minutes of screen time together! Meanwhile, Hose has been there since the beginning. If they were smart, they would have Hayato introduce him to Yamato and have those two get together. The big burly gym rat with the monotone robot MC.

"than you"?
He stands places both his arms behind his back as he begins to speak, "Yes, an accord. Or an agreement. Or an alliance. Whatever synonym you wish to use. The main point is that we came here looking for assistance."
Possibly an extra verb sneaked in.

How do you level up a Bond, again? Spend an action on the SL?

This could probably be listed under the relevant threadmark.

Bitch. I ship Hose x Hayato. Bond over their love of self-improvement and admiring each others' gains!

Just realized I forgot to add Ritsuko's SL Perception Object Bonus to the Update with Aina hitting Hayato.

Didn't change anything, but something I will try to remember from now on.

Preeeetty sure his contract is directly related to that scar. Either he got gutted on a pipe or piece of rebar on the way down from the bridge toss and the contract healed it. Or the gutting was something SHE did as part of the contract. And either way there may have been an organ transplant in one direction or the other

It's the former. It was in the sidestory.

Bro Trip #3
Kirin High Luck Roll: 17

Kirin High...didn't look any different from when you first came here.

The students were still being held by law enforcement, and a full investigation was still being carried out.

Thus, the school was still empty and still a fucking shit hole.

Anyone else would likely write this place off. Even if there was someone here, wouldn't they have left immediately after the police showed up? And even if they managed to avoid them, what else is there to do here? Put some of the walls back together? Who, in their right minds, would stay here after everything that's happened.

Well, as it turns out...

[Perception DCs Decreased by Keishi's Information!]

[Yamato Perception: Environment: 32 VS DC 20: Success!: +5 XP!]

...One person would.

"I am honestly surprised," Hiroko admits as you all observe what your brother has found. The kumiho, disguised as a girl in a Raijin uniform, watches your brother with interest as he brings over a ladder, "I have searched through this school on my own time, yet this has always eluded me."

"Maybe it's cause no one would think anyone would make something like this?" you posit as Yamato sets the ladder up. You shrug, "I know I wouldn't. I mean, why would someone put a hidden entrance in the roof of the tech lab? Especially since there's not really much in terms of tech here."

You wave a hand at the empty room around you. The reason for the rooms barren nature becomes clear when you spot the various plugs that have been ripped from the walls. With everything even resembling technology clearly having been taken away at some point, you're surprised this place still has any wires running through the walls. But it does. And that's how your bro was able to track them to a place on the ceiling that supposedly had a secret entrance on it.

You were a bit skeptical. Still are, even as Yamato climbs the ladder up to the place where the wires converge.

Then he knocks on the area.

Dust falls down alongside the sound of clanging metal. As it does, you see the small creases that denote the edge of a door frame.

"Huh," you say with a shrug, "Nice job, bro."

"It is primarily thanks to Sakutaro's information," Yamato admits while climbing down the ladder. He looks at Hiroko and you as he pushes the ladder a little to the side, "Using everything we know about Kirin as a basis, it is clear that someone who went here and focused on studying would need someway to avoid the more violent students. A secret base that none would know about, but was close enough to the school that they could still get to classes when they needed to. If they had placed it underground, they would be covered in dust and dirt. A clear indicator that anyone who was watching them could use to discover their secret. Thus, there was one place left: The ceiling. The wires that connected to it were simply extra assistance. Brother, would you mind calling up to whoever is in there? You are better at such things than I am."

"Say no more," you step forward, turn towards the entrance, then cup a hand around your mouth.

But, you're interrupted.

By the door suddenly bursting open and disgorging four cats. They're all mewling and meowing like crazy, suddenly running around the room. You blink and put your hands up, watching with awe as each one goes and does its own thing. Two of them immediately rush over to your legs, one a pale-off white Thai cat that scratches at your pant leg. The other is a Dragon Li that is just sitting on your right shoe.

"Uh, ok. This is...uh," you are honestly floored here. You hadn't expected the door to slam open. Nor did you expect a bunch of cats to come falling out of it. You turn to Yamato, "Bro? This what you expected?"

Yamato shakes his head, holding one of the other cats, a Bobtail with brown and white fur, in his hands, "Not in the slightest. Though, I do not believe that I was incorrect. Felines tend to find strange places to sleep, but I doubt they could've created a space in the ceiling for them all to stay in."

"Huh," you say while picking up the Thai and rubbing its head with your hand. You turn over to the kumiho, "What do you think Hiroko?"

The kumiho doesn't answer. Because she's currently standing as far away from the two of you as she can. One hand is over her mouth, while the other is on her chest. Her eyes are wide open and she's got one foot up. When she notices you and Yamato looking at her with confusion, she moves her hand away from her mouth. She starts speaking, "Oh, don't mind me. I'm just...uh...feeling a bit light headed, that's all!"

"Hiroko?"

"Yes, Hayato?"

"You're drooling."

The kumiho's hand goes back to her face, covering her drooling mouth. Her eyes refuse to look at either of you as she starts explaining, "I, uh, I see. Um, I...forgot to eat my morning meal of rice and otherwise before coming here. I...don't think I should get close to any of the kittens."

"Right. Can you at least come with us up the door? To help us figure out where the girl is?"

[Hiroko CSC: Perception: Environment + Supernatural: Fundamentals = ??? + ??? VS DC 35: Success!]

"There's no need to head up the entrance," Yato says out loud, making the Thai leave your arms while the Dragon Li heads off with it, "Our target is close by."

"How can you tell?"

"I sense the presence of a Bakeneko. She has likely turned herself into one of these felines to avoid detection."

"The old warrior is correct. She's over there," Hiroko points at a position behind you. Both you and Yamato turn around, him placing the Bobtail down on the floor. It rushes over to the rest of the cats...who have all gathered around a single cat who managed to get passed you all. Unlike the others that are mixes of colors, this one is completely black. Sharp emerald eyes sit above four lines where its whispers should be, and they seem to carry an intelligence to them...along with some uncertainty and fear.

But there's one specific thing that tells you that the creature isn't normal.

It has two tails.

It looks at the three of you.

You all look at it.

It blinks.

You all blink.

Then it turns towards the exit door and starts running. The three other cats quickly follow after it.

"Hey, wait!" you shout, already running after it, "We just want to talk!"

By the time you get outside, the cats have split into two groups of two. One going down the western hallway and the other down the eastern hallway. They've gotten far enough that you can't tell which is which. So..

"Yato! Which way did she go?" you say to your Partner as your brother and Hiroko step out of the room.

"East, my Lord," he is quick to say.

"Thanks!" you're about to rush after her, but are stopped by Hiroko's hand.

"Hold on. If she can transform herself into a feline, she likely has other illusion focused techniques at her disposal. Chasing her down without a plan will simply let her get away from us," the kumiho posits.

"Then, does anyone have a plan?" you ask, looking between Yamato and the kumiho.

You're not shocked when Hiroko goes quiet as she begins to think.

You are shocked when Yamato does the same thing. He looks up at you and shakes his head, "None of my plans are ones that can be performed in a short amount of time. I'm afraid I can't offer any assistance here."

"Then perhaps this fox and I can," Yato appears on your arms, his voice carrying a hint of pride, "This is our area of expertise, after all. Unless this fox is incapable of thinking on her feet?"

That seems to break Hiroko from her stupor. She huffs, her disguise going down as her tails come out, "As if. I have already come up with a plan to help us catch the Bakeneko. Two, in fact."

"Then don't keep us in suspense, lay them on me! And fast!" you say, looking behind you as the cats get farther away.

[] Yato's Plan: Essentially? Just chase the Bakeneko down. Yes, Hiroko said not to do that, but Yato is confident in your abilities to resist illusions. You've trained all this time to accomplish that feat. Now it's time to put it to the test.

[] Hiroko's First Plan: The Bakeneko can use illusions. So can Hiroko. Thus, she'll match her power against the cat's. If she can manage to overpower the Bakeneko's own abilities, she could trap the cat in an illusion of her own making. This would make it much easier to catch her.

[] Hiroko's Second Plan: Hiroko's a fox. While not as good as a full dog's sense of smell, she can use it to track down other animals. This includes cats. If she can get the scent of the Bakeneko, she can lead you both to her location. Though...she did say she hadn't eaten recently. And you're not sure how well she can control herself.
