That's kinda the machine cult's stick.

They like their secrets.

Depends on the sect, and more specifically the forgeworld.

Like the mechanicus loathes sharing secrets, but simple maintenance and repair of, say, lasguns or voxes? Isn't something they'd usually object to. The imperium isn't very practical on average, but even they have to occasionally recognize the reality of the situation: people won't always have access to engiseers, or engiseers might be busy with bigger tasks.

That said, a dedicated engiseer or tech priest is gonna be way better at repair and maintenance than us. Like I'm betting a minimum of +5 to their mechanics roll.

Should note that our little Knight Division will have a Sarcrastian, a tech priest who serves our house and takes care of repairs on our Knight. Mechanics as a skill is meant for basic field repair, not really full on fixing major damage

[X] House Waindrich
-[X] A fairly small and inauspicious house for generations, House Waindrich rose to prominence in a recent conflict, when its Knights rose to the occasion to protect the Crown after a larger House fell to Chaos, arriving first to the battle. Though they were decimated by the conflict, they held the line long enough to ensure that the royal family could escape. When you were found to be eligible as a pilot, you were given to Waindrich, in recognition of their sacrifice and to help them rebuild. This has placed the House on the path to greatness... and made a number of others rather jealous.
-[X] Heraldry: A purple yale, rising over a shattered castle on a white field.
-[X] Motto: "By the Crown we live, for the Crown we die."
[X] Blue and Purple
[X] Baron Pattern. An old and rare design, the royal engineers had to take it out of the mothballs and rebuild it from scratch. The High King felt you deserved nothing less. Many of its custom features are designed to ensure it be easy for you to pilot, despite your inexperience.

We're a Crown Princess; gotta be underdogs somehow. Also, I think the idea of the newbie being also the person half the House worships sounds like it could be fun.

I'm feeling that a Magaera, a design used for Shock Assaults, a Warden, a close range design that has a lot of capabilities against smaller foes, or a Errant, a design made for taking on armoured foes, will be more useful in the long run for this campaign, rather than the classic Paladin.

I myself am leaning more towards the Errant, since with the Icarus Battlecannons, a Reaper Chainsword, and it's Thermal Cannon, it forms a bastion of strength and firepower that promises a gruesome death, while it's Heavy Stubber will reap those that dare come close to us. It's Thermal Cannon, being a gigantic Meltagun, will be able to tear through most armoured foes, even titanic lifeforms or constructs, should be enter in range of them and deploy this devastating weapon. The Errant is also the Knight form that usually spears the tip of Knight assaults, and we are leading two other Knights into battle.

[X] House Highmarch - An ancient house once known for its glorious service. They are historically defenders of the Segmentum Solar, but recent setbacks and losses in the past Millennium resulted in a collapse of the House's authority and prestige. They now work hard to embark on Crusades and Expeditions which could impress rivals and allies alike, and restore glory and honour to House Highmarch. They have a particular hatred of Xenos, specifically the Orks who were responsible for House Highmarch's loss of standing.
[X] House Motto: "Providence Guides Us, Loyalty Defines Us."
[X] House Heraldry: Dancing Golden Unicorn with Eagle's Wings
[X] Green and White
[X] Cerastus Knight-Atrapos

I'm torn between awesome but rare and hard to maintain (Knight-Atrapos), or ubiquitous, flexible and solid (Knight-Warden). I'm inclined to go rare and flashy because it fits our amazing Princess' dignity.

I like the thought of a shamed or weakened house looking to regain their honour and prove themselves to the Imperium, while still living in the Imperial core where decadence and wealth can easily reign. It gives our Princess a strong motive to get out there, and a reason why we'd entrust get with such a rare and valuable pattern of Knight.

The Atrapos is also a good way to leverage our probable dual combat skills as it has great ranged and melee abilities.

EDIT: Stupid phone autocorrect, types fixed!

[X] House Eriventa
[X] House Eriventa holds prestige matched by only the greatest of the Knight Houses. Located in Segmentum Solar within sub-sector Edalas it's Knights have in its long history fought in Crusade after Crusade from the time of the Great Crusade earning great amounts of honour and wealth. However, the deeds of the ancestors of this great house have had consequences for their descendants; with its closeness to Holy Terra and its legendary past, this house's knights have been called away to fight the Imperium's enemies with less and less frequency with the justification that such a great house will be needed if Holy Terra ever found itself under threat. Now upon the house's homeworld, only a few have been off-world in centuries and the greatness of the Imperium that it fought for, left to only myth and legend; a great house in name but not in deeds with lesser houses clawing to take away its "underserved" prominence. With the formation of the Great Rift the call to arms has been sounded and this great house has been called upon to face the Imperium's foes. Will it match the deeds of its ancestors or will it crumble in the face of its foes both within and without?
-[X] Heraldry: A gold Aquila atop a knights helm flanked by a flaming sword and bolter.
-[X] motto: For Emperor and Imperium, We live and die in Glory.
[X] Gold and Purple
[X] Baron Pattern: An ancient and rare design custom made for House Eriventa that was rebuilt and given new life when you were discovered to be its pilot. Everyone who has piloted this Knight has been immortalized in legend with only its earliest pilots fading into the murkiness of history. You are its first pilot in two thousand years; Do not disappoint.

We are playing a princess character; being a wealthy but isolated house fits the character we are playing as especially since our character would have little idea of what is awaiting them.

Yeah, Baron Patterns basically let us pick whatever loadout we want because they are custom designed for the heads of an Imperial Knight House and are among the strongest of the Imperial Knight patterns in basically every regard.

Fitting since we're playing as the heir of an entire world.
