A Light from the Shadow (Tolkien CKII)

Do you really want to meet Maglor knowing you were one of the guys who killed his father? I mean say what you will about the Féanorians but family seemed to be very important to them. Also you nailed his brother to the walls of Angband.

The only thing that would make Maglor hates you more would be if you had a Silmarils. Fortunately I have not yet rolled the 100 needed to have it show up in the abysses of Moria.

Oh. Oops... Yeah, that would probably suck.

I'm surprised you're not making the Arkenstone be the Silmaril though. If you spin it like the part outside only grew over the Silmaril and wouldn't even be see through if not for the intensity of the light, you could make it work.

Anyway, back to the vote, we really can't all four of us be involved then in the forging? Since we're probably not as good as Saruman, we'd probably be redundant I suppose.

That would be redundant yes and crafting is actually more difficult when many wills and desires are involved. You are in a world where you are going to tell the sword to become like four different things, poor weapon needs an indendity.

[X] Saruman, Noldo and Dwarf together.

Let's do this!

For FRIENDSHIP!

Are we supposed to specify a sub-option for one or the other if Saruman fails his diplo roll though?

Now we just have to hope whatever Noldo smith gets involved is not of the same mind as Pengolod.

You know, the one reported to believe dwarves are soulless and incapable of things like art. "[T]he Dwarves have no spirit indwelling, as have Elves and Men, the Children of Ilúvatar, and this the Valar cannot give. Therefore the Dwarves have skill and craft, but no art, and they make no poetry."

He would know better by now, right?

Legolas himself was quite possibly fairly convinced dwarves had just two settings (want and resentment), until he witnessed Gimli sing, speak and grieve.

On the other hand, dwarves aren't much less prejudiced either...

Maybe we can settle spirits beforehand by taking him on a drinking binge. How's our alcohol tolerance?

On a more serious note, Arathorn I is the Chieftain and soon-to-be King of Arnor I'm guessing.

Yeah and I prefer warn you due to Fate sheananigans the son of the King of Arnor, either Arathorn or Argonui is son will be LOTR Aragorn and will surely snag Arwen in the Fourth Union of Men and Elves (because Mithrellas and the Prince of Dol Amroth are not that important)

I am not at all surprised by this or opposed to it. Since you're accelerating the Umbar Corsair Campaign anyway, Aragorn may even manage to go on his Thorongil adventures before all is said and done.

Well, assuming we don't decide to go to Umbar ourselves next year.

So as you are going to dispel the gloom that keeps the Dunedain from rebuilding their kingdom a certain sword will be forged anew but by who.

[] An Elf: Rivendell has some Noldor after all
[] A Dwarf: Hey the blade was forged by a Dwarf after all
[] Saruman: You have an Aulendil after all.
[] Yourself: And why not?

Can we do something like have a Dwarf forge it using our fire? I find myself liking the Symbolism :)

So, what was all this that I just read? There were issues?
Besides knowledge dissonance between the GM and me as well as some unfortunate alternative character interpretation for Elrond & Co.?

Only the largest and most strategically important Dwarven Kingdom in the world very nearly getting retconned out of existence. :p

But the GM fixed all that!

I don't suppose us contributing our shiny diplomacy stat to influence at least the initial disposition of the Noldo and Dwarf isn't too much cheese?

The Sword that Was Broken
The Sword that Was Broken

And Saruman the White hearing that the times were now near approached Vanadin of the Children of Durin and Gilrael of the Noldor who had come with the lady Galadriel. Such was the power of his voice and the strength of his arguments that he bound them together for this momentous task. For prophecy was at hand and the Heirs of Isildur would regain the kingdom taken from them by darkness and sorcery. Thus Istar, Dwarf and Elf took the shards of Narsil to make them anew. A symbol it would be, great and wondrous, of the friendship between all the Free People for the blade wrought by the elders would be wielded by the younger.

And Palantir of the Healed hearing of this declared that tales of the sword reforged would eclipse those of the sword ere it broke and that many great deeds it would perform in the hand of Men before becoming a token of kingship in ages yet to come.

Fair was the sword when it was made again and bright beyond measure. For the light of the sun shone red in it and the light of the moon shone cold and the light of the stars shone silver. Keen was its edge, keener even than Angrist who would have cut a sheath of steel like so much green wood and when it struck nothing could withstand its might. Spells they wrought in the forge to make it terrible to any evil who walks unseen and even to the Nine it would bring terror. Spells they wrought on the sheath they made for it too, and all three declared the bearer of the sword would not fall if not by treachery or an evil arrow launched from afar. But in the midst of the melee they would fear nothing as long as the men around them stayed true.

They named it Calagil the Sword of Light and Vanadin gave it a secret name only the Dwarves would know, as is their custom in such things. Yet Palantir hearing of the name laughed softly and declared that the sword could also be called Gilgon The Sword of Stone or Gilaelin : The Sword of the Lake

So... Excalibur or Caliburn?

...wait, could we even touch a silmarils?
and if we can... could we use it to restore the trees?
