That's not what I said. I said "if we don't catch Jiraya's attention now, which requires spending time with him, we won't have an opportunity to catch is attention later at all". Because he won't be in the village for a prolonged period of time after the invasion at all.
I don't agree.
We currently know that Naruto has contact with him, which is enough to draw some conclusions.
And we're on good terms with Sakura, which is enough to ensure that if he's dragging Naruto along, we'll know.

If your argument is just that you want to see Jiraiya, go ahead. If OTOH, you're saying we won't catch his attention, that's wrong.
We didn't need to do anything besides being ourselves to draw Sarutobi's attention.
Unless you think everyone in the hospital got a personal visit from the Fire Shadow.

Dawn Caste Solars really can't hide when they break out the bullshit.

Besides, as has been repeatedly pointed out, it's Tsunade who's her hero.
Not Jiraiya. Meeting Jiraiya involves her asking him for stories of his teammate.
And she's not Naruto who can get strung along by promises of cool jutsu.

1) No, currently we don't know IC that Naruto has contact with him - we haven't made that connection yet.
2) Being friendly with Sakura might be enough to learn that he and Naruto left the village. It's not going to be enough to learn that they are going to leave the village for a long time early enough so we can still get Jiraya's help.
3) We drew Sarutobi's attention because he's hokage. Jiraya very emphatically isn't. It's very much Sarutobi's business to know what's going on with his shinobi, and to check on any new "bloodline" or such.
4) Tsunade is our hero, sure, but it's Jiraya's skillset which aligns with ours. Specifially I want his fuinjutsu and his mastery of hair manipulation. Tenten doesn't have chakra control (because people think it's useless or something to grind it) to benefit from what Tsunade has to teach.

1)To quote the GM:
Given that Tsunade is her idol, I'm pretty sure Tenten knows who the Toad Sage is.
If she doesn't know now, the realization is going to hit her in a bit.
Give it a couple minutes.

2)Dude, Jiraiya told even Teuchi at the ramen place where he was going.
Gai knew where to go looking for Sasuke after he ran off after Itachi/Naruto/Jiraiya.
These aren't grave secrets.

Furthermore, there were several days, if not more than a week, between the death and funeral of Sarutobi, and when Jiraiya set out for Tsunade.
She knows he's in town, she can find him.
His usual vices are known; the Village Elders located him the same way by looking in the vicinity of female baths.

3)In canon, Sarutobi did not visit Naruto in the hospital after he fainted after training.
He didn't visit Sasuke, who got hickey'd and attacked by Kabuto.
As far as we know in this AU, he has neither gone to visit Hinata or Lee or Temari.

He visited Tenten. Consider that factoid carefully.

4)The Strength of a Hundred Seal is S-class Fuinjutsu. Tsunade made that; original invention.
Tenten is hardly going to prioritize J-man over "Lucky" Tsunade.

And no, Jiraiya's skillset is not a particularly good fit with ours.
He's a ninjutsu primary, taijutsu secondary specialist who happens to also be a fuinjutsu expert and big on summons.
Tsunade is a taijutsu primary, ninjutsu secondary specialist who also happens to be a fuinjutsu expert.

Tenten is likely to end up as a weapon-primary, fuinjutsu secondary jack of all trades with a sideline in sorcery.
If any of the Sannin aligns with us best, it's actually Orochimaru, the swordsman who applies touch fuinjutsu and uses esoteric shit in combat.

plus asides, when we hear that Jiraiya and Naruto set out to look for Tsunade after she realizes who Naruto's trainer is..... well needless to say a healer who might be able to fix Lee means we might be able to convince Neji to come for the ride :)

Give it a couple minutes.
To clarify what this means, she's going to realize who Jiraiya is in both votes, it's just in one she realizes while she still has time to catch up to Naruto and the other she doesn't.

Now, I'm not going to say that waiting on Jiraiya will have no effect, but there will be opportunities to find and interact with him now that you've met with Naruto. Following Naruto now would however make finding and meeting him easier in the future.

Time to go hunt down the crazy Lunar and beat his knowledge out of him.

Honestly, I was ambivalent when I initially voted, and I'm still fairly ambivalent, but I find I'm curious as to what the non-Jiraiya option is.

Oh yeah, this reminds me, but if anyone needs a refresher on where Tenten, Neji and Kiba were during the entire invasion arc, they were evidently saving Hinata from getting kidnapped (again) by Kumo (again).

It has been a freaking while since I watched that whole arc. Question, because I cannot for the life of me recall. Was Jiraiya anywhere doing anything during the invasion in canon, or was he 100 miles away making women deeply uncomfortable in random fire nation village #138?

I'd have to check, but I think He was dealing with the giant snake summons Orochimaru let loose on the village.

He was dealing with the giant summons and maybe knocking out hot sand/sound jounin while thinking to himself "man. what a nice guy I am, this is definitely going into the next volume!"

He arrived a bit late, but once there he took out the summons and fought. His dialouge IIRC also indicated he intended to save the hokage, but he didnt arrive before it was all over. Or something like that.

Alright, since I have to get writing, I'm closing the vote. You missed the chance to watch Tenten puncture Jiraiya's ego by 4 votes. There were a total of 88 votes which is wow. If you guys can get that to 90 in the future I might even give you a reward or something. Definitely if you can get it to 100.
Adhoc vote count started by Crilltic on Mar 31, 2017 at 4:49 PM, finished with 4140 posts and 88 votes.

Well, yes, a new and unknown bloodline, which also healed her broken spine. Of course he visited.
He didn't visit the village's last Uchiha, with an active Sharingan, who was being actively recruited by an S-class nukenin.
But he found time to visit Tenten.

Like I said, consider the implications.

He was reinforcing the village defenses.
Specifically, Summoning: Food Cart Destroyer Technique is from him dropping a boss summon on one of the giant snakes Orochimaru secured as entertainers for the party he was throwing for Konoha.

Which rather suggests that Sand and Sound brought a lot of heavy metal, if it tied him up for long enough that he didn't show up at the Shukaku fight, OR to help Sarutobi administer a kicking to Orochimaru.

Well, yes, obviously. New and unknown bloodline vs. A known bloodline and a known effect that people he trusts (Kakashi) know how to deal with.
Nothing obvious about this decision.

Orochimaru is trying to recruit one of only two natural living Sharingan users.
Someone who he undertook personally to promise an S-class shinobi with secrets that he would look out for.
All sorts of personal and village-scale risks here.

And he leaves him alone to visit the glowy girl.

Visiting Tenten tells him nothing he couldn't tell from his crystal ball, or by requisitioning medical reports.
And she was under the care of a trusted senior jounin: Gai.
A sitdown with Sasuke from someone who taught Orochimaru might have helped there, but he chose to spend it with the girl who wasn't a defection risk.

That is...suggestive.

Tenten doesn't have chakra control (because people think it's useless or something to grind it)
Because canonically once you are past the very basics, you "grind" it by learning and practicing ninjutsu and genjutsu, which all require chakra control to do, as that is literally what they are: controlled chakra.

Week 2 Final - Rest & Relaxation III
You decide against trying to follow Naruto. While a part of you wants to track him to down and see what he's up to, you don't really see a point. If need be you can always try and find him again, he doesn't exactly strike you as someone that hard to track down. No, instead you have an appointment with soothing hot water.

As you lean back in the bathwater though, you can't seem to shake the sensation that you're missing something though. Like there's a memory just on the tip of your tongue that slips out of your grasp whenever you reach for it.

You've always hated that feeling.

You slip further into the water as your brow furrows slightly. It's something Naruto blurted out in his scattershot explanation of his training, you're sure of it. Toad sage...why does that sound so familiar? You shift slightly, sinking deeper into the warm embrace of the bathwater, and sigh. No matter, if he thinks getting training from someone called "The Pervy Sage" is going to help him against Neji he's...

Wait. Toad sage. Pervy. Was looking for him near a women's bathhouse. Your eyes snap open with a realization. Pervert Toad Sage. No, it can't be, there's no way he could...but if he is. Could that knucklehead possibly be getting training from Jiraiya of the Sannin?! Hero of the Second Great Shinobi War, Famed Sage of Mount Myōboku, and most importantly Lady Tsunade's teammate!

You sink lower in the water for a moment, bubbles of air betraying your intense thought. You could...no, he's probably too far to track properly by now. Damn, if only you'd made that connection sooner. Even if it turned out not to be the case you have to know. This could be the best chance you had in years to get Lady Tsunade's autograph! Or even maybe meet her!

You suddenly feel very light-headed.

You let yourself fall back against the edge of the pool with a sigh. Letting yourself enjoy the thought of meeting your idol for the first time. What would you even say to her? For years you tried to be exactly like her, to...less than stellar success. You blush slightly at the thought of all the bars and gambling houses you got thrown out of, literally in some cases.

You're pretty sure your picture is still on the wall in a couple of them. But Lady Tsunade is still...she's The Kunoichi, she's-

"That was quite a display you put on."

Why

A feminine voice interrupts your revelry. Why must everyone insist on interrupting your private time? You quirk an eye open to-...oh

The intruder is perched on top of the wooden surrounding the bathing area. Half-shrouded by the shadows of the trees, but still enough to see her long purple hair fall down past the twin swords strapped to her back. You don't really pay attention to those though, because your focus is entirely on the white mask of some indeterminate animal covering her face, and the prominent red tattoo on her upper arm.

ANBU.

Why is an ANBU member here? Why is an ANBU member interrupting you in the bath? Why is an ANBU member interrupting you in the bath?!

You force down the immediate reaction of utter panic, in hopes of approaching this with some measure of calm composure. You fail of course, but it was nice to try at least. At least you remember to surreptitiously grab one of your kunai, folding it close to your breast as you hunker down in the water. "Uhh..."

You know what would be nice now? The thought idly pops into your head: Clothes. Clothes would be very good now.

The ANBU member simply hops down off of the rock without a sound, "Quite obvious who it was as well, made it very easy to find you."

If she's trying to reassure you, this is an exceptionally poor job. Wait. Right, you can-

<Wants to talk to you about something very personal>

Okay, that just raises further questions. You're positive you don't know anyone who's in ANBU, unless they happened to be in the business of recruiting genin right out of the academy. And the last time you even saw an ANBU member was...that night. "Why...why are you here?" You manage to keep the waver out of your voice, mostly.

"I-" She pauses, just for a split second, but enough for you to notice and when she continues her voice is ever so slightly thicker, "-wanted to ask a favor for a friend, she...wants to talk with you about something you saw."

<Doesn't want to reveal her identity to you.>

Your eyes widen slightly at that, why...no, she's ANBU, of course she doesn't want to reveal her identity. Though why would that be her overriding intent? Unless, she's not asking for a friend. So many questions, most of which you suspect you won't get an answer for if you ask. "What does she want to know about?" You ask, trying and failing to keep the edge of suspicion out of your voice.

You see her mask twitch left and right, surveying over the empty bathing area. Idly you wonder how exactly her mask works, you can't see any visible eye holes, just two black dots of paint. Likely some complex seal work to make it transparent, or something similar. It's something to focus on, to distract yourself from freaking out over the fact that a black-ops agent is interrupting your bath to ask you for personal favors holy sh-*ahem*

"Not here. She wants to meet you, in person, someplace safe."

<Wants to know about Hayate>

You chew your lip, you can't exactly say you're surprised. What else would an ANBU, or their "friend" at least, want with you? Do you even know anything classified besides about that night? The old saying about genin and mushrooms springs to mind. Still, something feels...off about this whole thing. You can tell she's lying to you about something. "And...if I say no?" you ask with a lot more confidence than you feel.

"Please I-" she cuts herself off, "She...there's things I cannot get from reports. I would be in your debt."

<Wants to know how her boyfriend died from someone who was there>

Oh.

Do you agree to meet with her friend?
[ ] Yes
[ ] No

Interlude Vote:
[ ] A Traitor's Lot Kin

[ ] Conflict Within Sakura

[ ] How Troublesome Shikamaru

[ ] Reflections ???

[ ] How Things Seem Kabuto

So, the mystery box option was meeting Yugao. In doing so, you've gained a social option for meeting her next week, with the possibility of getting her as a tutor. In return, you lost the opportunity to meet Jiraiya early, and therefore start working on making an impression early, and you'll have to interact with him solely through Naruto for now.

Trying a new thing where instead of allowing interlude write-ins, I'm curating them just a bit. Narrowing down to several things I think you would be interested in seeing. I'll give a reward if you guys manage to guess who they all represent.

Some are easier than others.
