It's not pseudo-perfect. It's a suicide technique with large chakra requirements that can be resisted as it is executed (like Orochimaru did when Sarutobi tried to seal him away). It's also basically a melee attack or close enough. And, as I remember, they were defeated by a concentrated effort of several villages. Like, several jinchurriki and kages working together.
My main problem with shinigami being a spirit or whatever... Is that it requires adding a lot of unnecessary entities to the universe, where everything can be explained without those.
