Last Light of a Dark Age (Warhammer 29K/Disco Elysium)

Anything but Rhythms , thay are overused and just plain boring. I consider Noosphere the more interesting choice , but Living Weapon would suffice.
"Overused" while Rhythms has been mostly silent because Harmony's in the dreaming her memories, I don't think we're reading the same quest lol

[X] LIVING WEAPON. The killing instrument. Draw your sword.

In the endless darkness of the future, there is only war.

I'm really not liking the implication that they are sticking petriform in people's heads en mass. Considering the last time someone used it as a weapon, seems like they learned the trick! And then decided to stick shapes in people's brains.
gen has been unusually resistant against the dreamshape's infiltration, delaying it's hatching by a good decade.

This means that if there was a mass deployement, for the majority of people, the hatching occured years ago. And given that such a thing would have likely had major societal effects, some of the implants or thoughtforms should have had memory of it. So, either that too got filtered out, every staple has been doing the dream resistance thing, or the shape has filtered itself out of memory.

[X] NOOSPHERE. Taproot of the planetary datageist. Know your enemy.
[X] RHYTHMS. The tempo, in the planet's noise. Harmony with artifice.

Well, Harmony's best skills failed the rolls to avoid being neutralized. Nothing above a 4 is on the docket. I know this is about vibes more than raw numbers, but still. In any case, going with Rhythms and Noosphere. The former because I like the machine connection stuff and it's fun to tap into the planet's noise to help us fight. Noosphere is because it got double sixes as a roll, so its lucky. I want to throw blue knowledge skills a bone. :p

I definitely wasn't expecting a dreamshape to be cannibalizing Harmony. It seems obvious in hindsight, damn. It got its claws in deep.

Or Harmony/Miss Normal was singled out because she's a Monadic agent and most of the staples are, in fact, benign.

I just had a scary thought. Harmony was never Miss Normal in the present. Miss Normal was a carefully orchestrated fiction formed by our high empathy stats used by the staple and the dreamshape, who carefully engineered her memories so that she would be the type of helpful person everyone liked so that she would rise to a high position where she can be used to accomplish a very important task at a very important time. Present Harmony is suffering the long-term consequences of her decision, which she may have been coerced into, of getting help. The staple is likely more scared than we are because it knows that once we wake Miss Normal and it will be no more since both were lies used to contain Harm. And Harm will intend to collect a user's interest. From small slight, long prices.

Going to back and make some edits in earlier updates on the basis of @Past Dreams' many typo corrections on earlier stuff...

It is quite sinister, though the scale is something unknown to you. There's a reason that was an impossible roll! The rest of the rolls are related to aspects of your own condition, but the Noosphere roll blows LETHE wide open.

This rabbit hole goes deep.

Jests aside, damn. I been jesting about recreating the events of the Trojan War to arete maxx in my previous posts but it seems the QM was way ahead of me all this time with the Trojan horse. Very humbled right now. (Which is bad for arete maxxing by the way)

Arete numbers declining very rapidly. Rapid adjustment is required. You need to kill your wife and child under the influence of the Gods then do some aura-farming trials.

Really not a fan of the fourth wall breaking when it comes to voting.

I moderated this down a bit on editing, because while I think it's important that there is an element of dreamshape influence here I wanted to make clear that it's implicit and subliminal, not literally the votes are fully part of the dreamshape's narrative. I don't intend to do a lot of 4th wall breaking.

I am actually curious about your perspective here - rhythms is by far (besides glamour) the quietest voice, and most of its interventions have been quite emotionally crucial (it was first to detect the staple, it gave you the vision of Sympathy recycling you, it granted you a glimpse as to why Miss Normal fell apart). How do you mean that it is overused? Do you mean that Shivers is, in DE quests?

Well at the very least, we know know the point group of the shape inside us, I am not sure how applicable it is to know that we have been undone by something approximatly pentagonal prism adjacent, but its more than we knew beforehand!

Ditto for "From me, them."

I ask that there be no more requests to alter the style on the punctuation because I realized what was happening is that this is a difference in American and British punctuation. British punctuation and style guides do not recommend putting periods inside quotation marks but the opposite.

I got a bit worried since it was happening so much and realized it's just different textual dialects. Cool thing to learn. I've unfortunately already altered a lot to the American punctuation and can't be assed to make them consistent now since it's such a small thing, but in the future I am using British style and will be putting punctuation outside quotation marks. In general, if something looks stylistic it probably is. If you think the style is confusing let me know but it's not a typo.

A problem I have with automatic grammar checkers as I just used for this update is that sometimes it is detecting style as grammar. For example, it keeps insisting on providing connecting conjugation to D5h's dialogue - but the clipped nature is the point. There of course also actual grammatical mistakes which I am always open to correcting, like a word missing or being wrong.

I have otherwise made the changes when it wasn't deliberate. Many thanks, Dreams.

Happy to help and you're welcome. :)

I learned the same a while ago and now much prefer the British form. It doesn't inject meaning that might not actually be part of the quote.

While I'm sure Miss Normal wasn't entirely normal herself, I'm very excited to get out of polyhedron imposed char gen, and see the comedy and drama ensue when Harmony has to interact with Normal's coworkers and loved ones. At least Harry's co-workers were already partially used to his weirdness, the effects of going from 10% weirdo to 80% in one day has the potential to be very funny in a Disco way.

Every 'choice' you had made - these implicit games where, for some reason, you were picking between memories that already happened - were not choices at all. They were tests. Calibrations. You were feeding it data.
I've had a day to think about this.

Does this imply that Harmony's entire "memory," up to this point, was constructed? While there were some constants (The War, the Ice, and the Mother figure), was every interpretation of Harmony's axiomatic chamber simultaneously valid at the same time? Is she creating memories out of whole-cloth, or is she reframing them under new/old axioms and ideas?

By choosing to be a hyperempathic murderblender, did she make that true, did she choose the option that was already true (retroactively), or is she taking on a particular persona out of dozens of personas that would have been valid for the dreamshape to mold her from?

...or am I, perhaps, just thinking too much about this? :p
