Earth Bet: House of the Sun (Cultist Simulator/Worm)

Perhaps we should train the minions then. And look into the endbringers.

I'm not sure I want to be... derelict. In the eyes of our master.

We don't want her thinking we hate Alicja more than her...

I have no desire to take sick days and have the director start poking around, not when our extralegal gunfight is so fresh and our promotion still in question. Because pulling out due to illness just prior to an Endbringer attack doesn't look good. Just can't afford people looking in too closely at our anything right now. This is also why I am opposed to investigating the Well this turn; the last thing we need is being wounded again, or worse, catching Fascination from its Lustre or something else equally concerning. We are already feeling AP constraints, so I want to put in a little work towards alleviating that with the arcane powers of working on our social links.

On the other hand, we also just completed a grueling investigation and successfully put a criminal cape behind bars in record time, a case could certainly be made that we need a day or two to bleed off the stress of all that hyperfocus.

It's quite strange to take a sick leave and then spend the free time on promotion.

I assume narrative logic will apply and Wraith will not escape while we are away. I imagine it will look like we were sick and now we are making up for it.

In addition, I would advise giving one AP to study the Grail with a Master, without this we lose the +15 bonus on trying to bury the Alicja case.

I don't think we should learn from her for now because Master is scary embodiment of Hate and we just failed to dispatch our foe especially after teaching us. Let's not poke her so soon after our failure.

We literally spend the free AP received from the sick leave on additional work, this happens in one month.

It's ridiculous, she's the Name of the Hour associated with the conflict. The master knows perfectly well that not all clashes end in unconditional victory, as long as we intend to kill the enemy and we have the means to do this, we have not lost.
In addition, this is a really serious reduction in the bonus from +20 to +10.

And how do you think she would teach us? Clearly, the gentler lessons were not enough and I would like for us to still be ourselves in ways that matter.

Your points are valid, but I'm fine with taking the risk. And since there are other Plans that have the lesson, people can vote for them instead if they want to.

Let's not police ourselves before we even try. I would assume becoming Director will allow us to look at more confidential files of Endbringers. But I also want to check with the thread: should we spread our friending efforts throughout the inner circle, or focus on them one by one? Additionally, there is more to the Mansus than the Well - we could explore around the Woods as well (pun).

We're now in a Cold War with our enemy. Let's see if we can get a weapon with an extra trait. It would also be funny if Ai somehow recruits her - after all, she is desperate.

I'd rather use that argument next turn, as I feel like post-Endbringer attack burnout is a very common occurrence in the PRT, and by that point people prying won't reveal any fresh woundings.

True true, but we've been shot this turn. Hope for the best I suppose.

Forgot to comment on this before, I'd personally like to direct some attention towards Ai in this front, between the two of us we could start to lay some serious groundwork towards building inroads with the PRT from within and without. She's also the social adept best suited towards teaching us how to evade suspicion, or to cover for us if we can get her and her people into the organization.

"Good morning, Arch," you said as you stepped back from your door, letting him inside.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his eyes immediately landing on your arm. You blinked and followed his gaze, realizing he'd spotted the wound despite your efforts to conceal it. He had a sharp eye for details; you'd give him that.

"I'm fine. Just got into a scuffle," you replied, brushing it off like it was no big deal.

"Well, make sure to rest up. We can't have our Warmaster getting sick now," he chided lightly, his voice concerned despite his clear, playful tone as he sat at the kitchen table. You allowed yourself a small smile at that. It was oddly comforting despite the odd situation you were in. Settling into your own chair, you leaned back, trying to ignore the faint sensation creeping up your neck—the feeling like your mother's stern eyes were watching your every move.

"Would you like something to drink?" you asked, trying to shift your focus and calling on your mother's ingrained lessons about hospitality. You realized that maybe inviting Arch over in your current state wasn't the best idea. The house was bare, you were heavily wounded, and you hadn't planned for company. But since he was here, you pushed those concerns aside and focused on the present.

"I'd love some tea if you have it," he replied, pulling a few books from the satchel at his side as he spoke. You raised an eyebrow at the sight of them, and he blushed, quickly gathering them back into his arms.

"I thought I could share a few things with you," he offered, sounding a bit sheepish.

"I'd be interested," you said as you stood, making your way to the kitchen to prepare his tea. You weren't exactly sure what he wanted to show you, but it was hard to ignore the way his eyes lit up at your words. Arch tended to ramble on, especially when it came to his theories, or whatever new ideas had captured his imagination. Even if you didn't follow most of it, his enthusiasm was something you could appreciate.

You poured water into a cup and dropped the bag in before putting it in the microwave. As you waited, you listened to the faint sound of Arch scribbling away in the next room. When the microwave dinged, you carefully scooped out the steaming cup, the heat warming your hand as you brought it back to the table.

"Here you go," you said, placing the cup in front of him. "I've got something for you, too; give me just a moment," you added before heading upstairs.

When you came back, you were holding a few books that you'd bought months ago but hadn't had the chance to read through. You figured they might be more up his alley than yours.

"I picked these up a while back," you said, setting them on the table. "Thought you might want to take a look?"

Arch blinked in surprise, clearly not expecting this. He hesitated for a moment before flipping through the pages. His eyes widened as his fingers skimmed over a particular passage.

"This is... fascinating," he murmured, pausing to read aloud. "'Let the air circle through your lungs as your heartbeat warms it.'" He trailed off, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "There's definitely something here. If the other books are anything like this one, I think the little library at the bar is about to get a few new additions," he said with a smile, tucking the books carefully into his satchel.

"I'm glad you think so," you said, sitting back down across from him. His fingers twitched for a moment before he slid his papers across the table toward you.

"Do you mind if I explain this?" he asked. "I've found that bouncing ideas off someone else helps me solidify them."

"Sure," you agreed, though you gave him a warning. "But fair warning, my education's a bit spotty, so I might not follow everything." Growing up, your parents had prioritized combat training and warfare over academics, and while that suited your talents, it had left some gaps in your knowledge. Not that it bothered you much, but you were aware of the limitations.

"That's fine, I'll keep it simple," Arch assured you with a dismissive wave, though he didn't seem to notice how his words made your lips thin slightly. You let it go. No point in arguing over a well-meaning comment.

"Right, so mathematics," he started as he drummed his fingers on the table, trying to figure out how to approach the topic, "Let's start more simple, zero," he said, drawing a large zero on the paper.

"Zero is empty. It's raw potential that you add things to. At its core, zero opened the entire field of mathematics," he started to explain, "However, if we look at the world, maths is a more abstract concept-" he cut himself off as he started to ramble and ran a hand through his hair.

"Okay, let's go to basics; biology is the understanding of the living world and needs chemistry to work," he explained, pivoting once again to place his hand flat on the table, "Chemistry is understanding of matter and how all that interacts. It needs physics to work," he then put one hand above the other, "Physics is the understanding of reality, how matter and energy intersect. By its very necessity that requires mathematics," he then raised his hand above his head, "Maths is the very tippy top of all this, the linchpin that allows everything to work."

"So, math is sort of like... the foundation for everything?" you asked, trying to keep up.

"Exactly! It's the bedrock upon which everything else stands," he explained enthusiastically, "and in a way, it connects to the Glory we both know. Math, at its purest form, is like an echo of that transcendence, a way of understanding the patterns of the world as they descend from that higher plane." immediately the two of you tensed up slightly. That instinctive reaction to the brilliance that you saw when you walked the Woods and looked to the dreaming skies.

"So where does zero fit into all of that?" you asked, tapping the number he'd drawn earlier.

"Zero is Glory itself, in a way," he said, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "It's pure potential, untainted by the mess of reality. It's the key to understanding everything beyond just what we can see and touch. Without it, higher mathematics—higher thought—wouldn't exist."

You were about to ask more when Arch suddenly straightened up, his excitement dimming as he stuffed his papers back into his bag.

"Sorry, I've been rambling," he said with a sheepish grin. "Anything you want to talk about?"

"Actually, I have a request," you said, withdrawing a stack of bills from your pocket and setting it on the table. It wasn't a small amount of money, but you needed to ensure that Alicja was dealt with, and this was the best way forward.

"I'd like you to use this and find me a weapon. I've got no doubt you'll be better than me at finding it," you explained, setting the stack on the table. Arch looked at the money in shock, slowly picking it up as he thumbed through it.

Arch blinked in surprise, his fingers fumbling as he picked up the stack and thumbed through it. "I... well, I suppose I can help," he stammered, tucking the bills into his satchel. "You'll want something specific, right? Something aligned with the Lore?"

"Yes," you confirmed with a nod. "And thank you."

"Well, if you invite me over, share books, and listen to me ramble, how can I say no?" he replied with a shaky smile, clearly not used to someone indulging him the way you did. Despite his quirks, you knew his heart was in the right place.

"No problem," you said, leaning back in your chair again. "Now, mind expanding a bit more on what you were telling me?"

Arch's face lit up again. "Of course!"

You've given Arch the books you bought and asked him to search for a weapon you can wield, giving him 200 Funds to do so. He'd promised to do his best and will likely have at least something for you by the end of the month.

You are now Close Friends with Arch and have learned that behind his rambling, and inconsiderate demeanor is a lonely man, who enjoys having somebody listen to his ideas.

Arch I hate to break this to you, but zero isn't the Glory. Zero wasn't even originally acknowledged as a proper number, instead being used simply as a placeholder for where there were no numbers. Though I suppose the fact that people would murder each other over whether or not zero should be a proper number and be incorporated into math accordingly does make it feel like a particularly culty number...

So 1 action is enough to turn a Friend into a Close Friend. We should work on befriending someone else from the Inner Circle next turn since getting a Confidante is more complicated than the other levels of friendship.

I think Anatoly would be a good choice for that, he is close to the Master and considering who and what she is that makes me worried about him. Ai would be a close second

For me it is the reverse. But nothing stops us from friending both!
