Honestly the "parasites" piece made me think of Worm shards, more than Nothing worms…

I wonder what the connection between the two is, if any.

Important to note that studying books does not guarantee scraps while the manuscripts do. Books have a DC of 50 that gets our learning and Lantern applied to the roll. So while it is slightly more AP efficient it's probably better overall to get the Lantern bonus first from the manuscript and then do the study action.

Furthermore, in the base/inspiring/original quest the study skill check is to see whether the character manages to get anything useful out of reading the text, in the sense of eldritch enlightenment. Failing the check means the book was useless, we get no scraps and discard the book.

The Attention of the Laws is a free action and doubles the application bonus of the chosen lore so you should probably add it in to the plan.
Added a Learning boost to make it more likely to study books.

That is correct I simply forgot to add it. I've added that information to the informational sheet.

Added a Learning boost to make it more likely to study books.
You pick a Lore not a Stat, so if you wanted to boost the study books you'd pick Lantern

Added a Learning boost to make it more likely to study books.
It's based on the lores(Edge, Grail, Winter etc) not the stats. If you wanted a boost to the book action then Lantern would be the option(though with our current lore level it would only go from +1 to +2 compared to the +5 to +10 it would be if we got our Lantern up prior to the study action).

Then it's better to take a guaranteed lesson from the Master.

Eh, mechanically maybe, but narratively I suspect she'd, prefer that we pursue self-sufficiency. I'm actually quite excited by the sustained fortune of us finding a heart book concurrent with the Library getting a Heart manuscript, Heart level two right there, despite the Master having no interest in teaching it, we'll be just that little bit more difficult to kill.

Hmm... I would prefer if we hold off on learning Heart right now, since our Master refuses to teach it. Unless we could pawn it off to Arch?

Master won't touch Heart because she's a servant of the embodiment of nihilistic unmaking, and so the Unceasing Lore is directly antithetical to her nature. I don't think she has a personal issue with it though or she would have forbidden its presence in the Cult's Library.

I'd rather get the bonus from Lantern before we start reading any books as so to reduce the risk of wasting them, and levelling our Edge to 2 when we might have to deal with our Enemy soon is preferable, also furthering our main lore is always useful.

We'll work on getting that promotion and helping Arch in exchange for helping us, building rapport.
Reading Knock so we can get into those confidental files eventually and exploring the Woods for some more Lore.
And of course, dealing with our enemy, they will be a problem if not taken care of.

EDIT: Added AotL, since I just learned first one is free action, maybe I should have read that more carefully. I decided for Edge due to busting gangs and we may also find something in the Woods again. We also have an esoteric trait that we cannot be denied and I want to know if using Edge AotL will make those two things interact.

[] Plan: Do the Prep Work

I Like This, since it promotes learning more Lore and improving our Edge. I'm a sucker for Prep. But the other two feel better to me.

[] Plan: Progression And Promotion

I generally like this plan for the obvious focus on learning and progressing in as many Lores as possible as quickly as possible. And yet I have another preference.

[X]Plan: Helping Arch

I love most of this, but not buying the book feels a bit foolish. We have PLENTY of money right now, and we only have one manuscript on Heart right now. It'll help, but the more we get into that library, the better chance we have of getting to higher level lores. And while- yes- we need higher tier scraps to get higher tier Lores, no one else seems to be noticing a problem with it.

Regardless, it focuses on building our relationship with this worlds Loremaster. If he ends up AT ALL like Velvet, we will want him as a confidant sooner than later. The better we ingratiate now, the less we'll struggle with it later when we're more strapped for AP.

Pretty sure they are different books. Same type of lore gained but actually different.

I based this on the fact that it is level 1, and since you need only one scrap to reach level 2 then the book would be useless for him.

If you really think we should buy the book then I would add it, I just myself think that maybe he makes rolls for the books given that last turn he made one manuscript and now he made two.

EDIT: I don't know what I was thinking, when you are level 1 you can read level 1 books to advance. I will add the Heart book to plan.

EDIT 2: No wait, I panicked-overreacted. You are level 0, you need one level 1 book to reach level 1, two level 2 books to reach level 2 as so on.
I'll keep the book on anyway, Arch can decide what to do with it.

I think only the crit fail meant the book is completely useless? Simple fail just means you couldn't get anything useful on that attempt.
It is a Learning check after all, not Secret Histories or Fate.

[X] Plan: Do the Prep Work

This one looks fun too.

[X]Plan: Helping Arch

This as well, taking level one books and dumping them on the loremaster so we don't have to risk losing them to a study action is an inspired trick. Let's see if it works out.

Sadly no.

Reading a book
-You roll against a DC of 50, using Learning and Lantern gaining a scrap of Lore on a success
-Upon failure the book is discarded and destroyed

Until we get that Lantern cranked up we're only very average when it comes to book smarts, so unless we find something really nifty we're better off trading basic level books in to be made into manuscripts.

I just want to point out that this quest is inspired by the BirdBodhisattva quest and a lot of mechanics are taken from where.
And in the BirdBodhisattva quest, reading books did not destroy them, and if the study test was unsuccessful, you could try it next time.

I was talking about the other quest, the one you refered here:
Furthermore, in the base/inspiring/original quest the study skill check is to see whether the character manages to get anything useful out of reading the text, in the sense of eldritch enlightenment. Failing the check means the book was useless, we get no scraps and discard the book.
In the current quest, of course, it's on QM to decide what mechanics to use, but the part about book being destroyed was only added after you pointed to it in this post as far as I understand.
Anyway,
[X]Plan: Helping Arch
Looks promising.
