Professor Oak's Ranch
A New Ranch Hand's Perspective
Pallet Town has always been a somewhat paradoxical existence, a sleepy town with very limited activity, and yet a long and storied history of elite trainers whom called the town home. A fact that was born from it's very tenuous existence throughout most of it's history, between it's vulnerable position, small size especially given it's immediate neighbor, and the fact that they are largely separated from the rest of Kanto in the same manner as Viridian city, said neighbor. But in this age, everyone knows of the town as the home of Professor Oak and his Lab. Of which is now for the first time, looking to hire Ranch Hands so the retired champion could put more focus to protecting the town.
"Hurry up or we are going to be late!" Luna Starlight calls from outside the Starcrest household.
"I'm coming!" Jade Starcrest responds, and shortly after running out of the house, a little disheveled and holding a piece of toast as well as a hairbrush after having overslept.
"Remember what we taught you!"Ms. Starcrest calls after Jade Starcrest as he joins Luna Starlight in heading to the ranch.
"To think that just a few months ago the biggest worry was stuff like paying the bills, and now the world has gone mad, the League collapsed, the Routes are possibly as dangrous as the wilds themselves are, and a horde of pidgey are ruling route 1." Jade Grouses.
"And now Professor Oak is hiring us to help out around his Ranch! An opportunity to get back in shape after we were forced to stop our journey!" Luna states excitably.
"Hadn't seen you this excited since even before you got the job at the local Radio Station" Jade states, reminiscing a bit.
"And you've gotten boring since you got work at the Pallet House. Really, you still got your team right?" Luna retorts.
"We both know we only managed to get the fourth badge before we got robbed. We are lucky that we could afford to feed our teams, let alone not lose them back then. Besides, the tourists always like a good battle." Jade replies, earning a scoff from Luna.
"At this point, you might as well try and become a Coordinator. I've watched those battles, it's more you showing off than anything else. I bet nearly all of them didn't have any more than 2 badges." Luna retorts.
The two continue to talk as they walk to the ranch, meeting up with other trainers whom had been given the same opportunity to, to once again work with Pokémon in a way they haven't since they ended their journey, with even one or two being from the Pallet House Inn. As the small, but eclectic bunch of trainers move towards Oak Ranch, an explosion is heard. As the trainers tense up, with the locals being relatively calmer, a nidoran whom was running to Oak laboratory talked.
"No need to worry unless there are multiple explosions. Professor Oak still has not given up on trying to get Electrode to let Oak study it." The Nidoran states and quickly rushes to the lab after hearing Professor Oak.
"Bill! You better not have been fooling round with your Teleporters again! I really rather we not need to discuss this with the new farmhands on their first day!" Professor Oak is heard yelling from the distance as the trainers pause in shock.
"I thought that Oak and Delia were talking nonsense when I overheard them talk about some of those stories about Bill." Jade states, still coming to terms with the fact that he is now pretty sure said stories were not made made up anymore.
"So, any more questions?" Oak tells the gathered farmhands, after having laid down the basics.
"So, what about that talking nidoran we met while walking here?" One of the farmhands asked.
Professor Oak groans in annoyance as he facepalms." Why Bill. I told you they were coming today." He mutters before responding in a much louder voice. "Well, that is a bit of a long story, something that Jade Starcrest here already knows parts of, and the owner of the Pallet House is also very aware of."
A/N: Pallet Town is kinda generally known for having very little going on in it period...
Except in pokemon adventures where it is famous for the many trainers that called the town home, with basically every Trainer who has ever won the Indigo Plateau Pokémon League tournament having come from Pallet Town. Which, I guess does indeed play into the whole setting here, what with the fact that quite frankly, Pallet Town is the least defended of the towns, lacking size, geography, gyms/warlords, and being geographically isolated from everyone outside of water routes except for Viridian. So, well, it kinda makes sense if said place has a long and strong history of pokemon battling. With the main problem currently is well, few Pallet trainers being home when the world went mad, leaving the trainer retirees, veterans, and children in a not very ideal place.
Also funny note. going by bulbapedia,
Pocket Monsters: The Animation stated that the town was renamed to Pallet town after Professor Oak's grandpa was placed 931th place in the 10,000 best Trainers from the Pokémon Pals magazine list, and that ash and gary wished to beat that in order to get the town renamed after them.(Yo, what about Samuel Oak, that guy became CHAMPION! Where does that feat get someone on said list?
