Can we go for something like the Slina or the Drekin?

[X] Slina develop long, pointy, harpoon like tongues that they can launch from a distance to pierce the soft skin of the different Blamp species and pull back to feast on them. Experienced members of this offshoot will prioritize more challenging prey, either hunting tricky Vent Blamps or piercing multiple Cluster Blamps with a single attack.

I would like to do something to remove pressure off of the Blamp, but not sure of what to actually do.
Making another variant of them is more likely to add pressure instead of remove.
Maybe a predator specialized against the Vent or Cluster variants?

[X] The Drekin develop an organ that produces a silk-like substance. This substance is adhesive and the Drekin use it to make traps for it's prey.

Space spiders, let's go!

I think there really isnt such a thing as removing pressures in a game like this. At best you can vote for a subspecies that doesnt have those pressures but they will compete with the base creature.

The second part of this vote about it's behavior might be too much, but I might as well try and see if it works out.

thanks for the chapter and for writing' blamps become predatory to to cluster blamps do to shortage of food in the outer reaches of the facilities

We still need more producers, and the Blamps are going extinct soon. Both Slina and Drekin are fine right now with only a single pressure each. If we adapt one of them it is going to put pressure on the base Slina and Drekin as well as on some of the Blamps. Also, once the base Blamps go extinct there is likely to be a lack of food for the predators. So, more Blamps.

What we need to do first is create more Blamps like the Cluster Blamps and Vent Blamps. A prey species that won't kill the predators. The ecosystem is too fragile for killer prey. It will just put even more pressure on the predators, causing them to go extinct faster. I think three prey species lines is a good number to start at, for variation.

[X] Some Blamps become darker in color, allowing them to absorb more light. This allows the Blamps to grow faster and reach a larger maximum size. This larger size makes it harder for predators to hunt them.

This idea is to make a large Blamp to act as a base for future Blamp adaptations. It will push for predator adaptations once the base Blamps are extinct, but for now should only put pressure on the other Blamp lines, though I'm not sure which (if any besides the base).

If anyone else comes up with a good alternate Blamp idea I would love to vote for it.

[X] Blamps develop an organ that stores some of the energy that they get from photosynthesis. They release it as an explosion when attacked by other predators. They have changed their color from green to bright red to indicate their dangerous and separate them from their relatives, the Blamps, Vent Blamps, and Cluster Blamps.

While I agree with SquamousHorror, I don't think their proposal is going to win, so I'm voting for what I think is less harmful to the ecosystem.

Edit:

You know, I don't know why I didn't just vote for both in the first place.

I'm in agreement with Squamous overall. I like the explosion monster, but find it... likely to cause a pressure for literally every monster in the same biome as it.
If I'd seen this sooner, I would've proposed having the Slina start to parasitize the Drekin 83c I do wish the Slina setup wasn't as likely to cause pressures for the other vent blamps already, but I'm a pressure mitigator. I like to preserve basals to branch from as long as possible.
I'm also a fan of Drekin web layers.

Space spiders sound fun and giving the capability to make structures allows for a a lot of fun adaptations later on.

I agree that it may be better to add a few more producers before we start developing the predators or making more dangerous prey.

This one may seem a little boring but it's a good base to build off of in the future. I know someone else mentioned them becoming more combative but personally I see them becoming more plant like.

Something like they adapt a more stationary life style to better focus on food production resulting in a number of secondary adaptations. Such as becoming more resistant to discourage predation while developing fruiting bodies to spread their buds.

[X] Slina building off their double sided snake body develop a incredibly modular biology. A neurology distributed across the length of their segmented body. Each segment having their own smaller organs capable of functioning independently from the whole and genetic information needs to grow a head at either end. All this allows the Slina to break into its segments as needed. Note they usually only do this when a segment is irreparably harmed or to escape from being pinned down by either environmental hazards or predators.

I personally think this in of itself in a really cool development but will also allow for interesting future adaptation involving the segmentation.

I like the idea of a spider-like species.

004 (Harpoon Slina)

The Harpoon Slina
Some Slina have grown a sharp tooth and long tongues the effort to maintain the structure causes them to grow smaller than the original Slina. However, this tooth can be shot out at high speed striking targets several meters from the Slina and allowing them to pull targets back to them. To aim these shots the heads have grown more eyes to track targets. Both heads compete with each other to make trick or difficult shots. The harpoons are sharp and can break through the flesh of Blamps easily. The Slina have some success hunting Drakin using their harpoons to strike at the unarmored eyes and pull the creature in. The Slina can strike even Vent Blamps with speed and accuracy when they grow old. However, the time it takes them to grow skilled means that the Slina has formed small family groups where the parents will hunt for the offspring.

The Drakin find the Harpoon Slina as dangerous prey they can win at close range but the Harpoon Slina can strike them at range crippling or blinding them. The Slina find the Harpoon Slina young as easy prey and will strike at their nests when the older Slina are out gathering food. The Blamps are hunted occasionally but the Harpoon Slina young are the only ones to do so habitually. The Cluster Blamps are hunted as well but they scatter and rarely the whole flock takes many losses. The Vent Blamps who rely on their ability to stay away from the ruins for most of their lives and move quickly are a favored prey of all but the most skilled Harpoon Slina large enough to be a good meal and hard enough to train the Harpoon Slina's skills.

Just going to keep voting for this until the Blamps go extinct.

[X] Some Blamps become darker in color, allowing them to absorb more light. This allows the Blamps to grow faster and reach a larger maximum size, as well as acquiring a thicker skin. This both makes it harder for vent Blamps to disrupt them and harder for Drekin or Harpoon Slina to break their skin.
