Solar Auxilia Officer Quest. A 30k Early Great Crusade quest.

I'm a little surprised how sore the troops are over that operation. If it was a trivial advance like taking an enemy flag it would seem more reasonable to resent us for the dead comrades but the impact seems proportionately high enough it should be accepted. Their lives were spent as wisely as any soldier can hope them to be. Are we meant to be phoning it in because these are the first generation conscripts who don't really feel any loyalty to the Emperor or Imperium and are only here because they have to be? It's good cultural worldbuilding if so. It's nice to see the more diverse pre-fundementalist hellscape Imperium with distinct cultures and identities.

Ding ding ding, chicken dinner. These are soldiers of Franc, many freshly trained and transfered to the first of the Solar Auxilia cohorts.

This is one hell of a first experience with the way Imperial strategy treats soldiers as a currency and resource to use wisely.

Yeah, I don't blame our troops for being upset, even if it was worth it on a tactical/strategic sense, it was still a meatgrinder and a surreal one at that. That's going to wear on people when there was a safer option that wasn't taken.

All Herrand can do is show that he isn't the type of officer to take risks without reason or waste lives when he doesn't have to. it won't make them like us anymore, but it at least gives a certain grim...acceptance that if Herrand is going into the pit, he's got a good reason. That trust matters.

When an opportunity to get a +1 Max Wound equipment comes up, probably best to nab it, granted I'm not sure if there'll be such a thing as equipment upgrades since EXP upgrades will likely cover that as it did with the Veteran Lasgun Squad. Might be in the future though.

Though I wonder if leaning on the chemical warfare side of Franc in terms of future troops will affect something...

...hm. The combat mechanics reminds me of the tabletop... maybe.

Hmm, are we going to get new load-out options for the Rapier? Because we might be able to skip getting the rotary cannon troops if we could switch out the Mortars for the Quad-Bolters or similar.

Though of course, the negatives would have to be appreciated.

Its a bit artificial, but I am trying to keep things streamlined.

"You have been anticipating this moment. It's your first chance to wine and dine with the upper class that you aspire to join. Your long blonde hair has been carefully washed by one of the Cohort's professional barbers and repaired from being flattened under your helmet.

Appearances are important, especially for those aspiring to high society. A skilled aesthetech of the Alpyne Tech-Clans having subtly prepared you for high society. Nothing major, just preparations to give you a timeless appearance. An emphasized slightly androgynous build, safeguarded against the onset of aging and stress by a few injections, a tightening of the cheeks, and your jawline being made just a slightly bit more fierce.

You know that its a common jest among the men and women that you're the prettiest officer in the Sub-Section, and it does get a chuckle out of you. Personally, you'd be happy to assert a bit more of a masculine appearance, but have learned to appreciate the beauty, and the way it helps pave the way for high society.

The faint scent of lilacs lingers around you, applied alongside corrective makeup. The same smell as from the little herbal garden around the small country estate of your family.

Fiercely ambitious, your parents did not indulge in frivolous luxury, instead putting their wealth into investments of metal and flesh alike. The smell is a reminder of home and brings comfort in this unfamiliar and uncertain environment."

Sneak peek.

Why are people reacting with amusement to that.

Its someone undergoing high end aesthetic body modifications that don't quite fit their personal comfort just for the sake of meeting societal standards and allow them to hobnob with high society.

Even then surely it helps that we probably saved far more Francish comrades than we lost with that action?

I suppose the suppressed awkwardness Herrand is feeling is kinda funny in a schadenfreude sort of way.

It certainly is a contrast from Luthien the professional social disaster.

"I don't care that the neuro-toxin causes the paint to run! Purple is our colour!"

But really, damn they look cool. Steampunk French War Crimes is such a good theme.

Emperor's Children: "Are you sure we can't borrow the-"

9th Legion: *Possessively hugs the 7th Verdyn Chemical Engineers* "HIIIIIISSSSSS!"

Completely unintentional on my part. I just liked that specific theme. But the Third Legion canonically recruited from European nobility quite a bit, including in this quest, although to a slightly lesser extent from Franc due to its stronger republican leanings.

So you're not wearing their colours, they adapted yours and went from purple and copper to Tyrian Purple and Gold.

Since the Third Legion/Emperor's Children falls to Chaos and our PC's brother is in that Legion. Whatever happens, it's a recipe ripe for tragedy.
