Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

Seems to be just you from what you can see.
So seems like interrogating Oka is the best bet, since if we are the only ones effected that either means he bought bad stuff or intentionally drugged us.

[X] Interrogate Oka

@Goldfish would antitoxin wake Gorok up? Or do we have spell for that?
OOC: Of course the character with the +13 to saves against poison is the one who fails the check... whatever you say dice.
Of course, if everyone passed it we might not have noticed it was drugged, lol.

Crap!

This can only mean trouble is coming, and soon.

I can't figure out what poison was used for this. The closest match is Oil of Taggit. It only has a DC of 15, though, which means it would need to be a triple dose to get the DC up to 19, and then enough of it for at least three people. Using standard prices, that's 810 gold worth of poison, so I'm doubtful of it being the culprit, and that's one of the cheaper poisons.

On a side note, poison is ridiculously expensive, to the point of being virtually useless for all but the very, very wealthy and those who can create the stuff themselves. Maybe DP has houseruled that?

I don't think so. There isn't any ongoing damage to resist or additional saves to make, as far as I can tell, but it's worth a try. Like I mentioned above, I don't really know what this poison is, so the actual effects are still up in the air.

We might end up having to interrogate Oka, but that's not immediately pressing. Even with the cost of poisons reduced so significantly, to the point where the Oil of Taggit (if that's what was used) would only cost a bit more than 80 gold to poison all three of them with triple doses, that is still a significant expense for most people and it's not something you can do casually. Once the move is made, there has to be a followup to take advantage of the resource expenditure. That means an attack is most likely imminent.

[X] Constant Vigilance, Part 2
-[X] Cob tries to wake Gorok. If shaking him, splashing him with water, and pulling on his tail don't work, he'll pour a vial of Antitoxin down his throat.
-[X] Kori quickly rouses the others from their sleep. Two of the Iruxi take up guard positions while a third moves to saddle Warty and get him ready for battle. Pepper loudly sets about waking up the rest of the camp.
--[X] After the others are awake, Kori uses his Cloak of Darkness Revelation then casts Detect Poison to inspect Gorok, what remains of the uneaten food, and our recently purchased supplies to try to discern anything he can about what was used and who may be responsible. He also decides to begin checking all food the party eats with Detect Poison, unless doing so would be a grave insult to their hosts, and even then he may try to do it if he can without being noticed.
--[X] Mina casts See Invisibility and Mage Armor.
--[X] Sirim casts Magic Circle Against Evil and Mage Armor.

[X] Goldfish

More detailed, so trust it even if I think we should chat with Oka sooner than later.

All it takes is to swap 1 jar of spices Oka used. Not sure he was aware of the fact. Still, this means whoever did it is already inside the camp.

Just noticed this part, you can rule it that way by RAW, but I do not like to. Passing a save means the poison does not do whatever its mechanical effect would have been, what it does not necessarily mean is that you are fine. Like take the condition sickened, you are too miserable to do more than take move actions, you are too sick to swing a sword or cast a spell, but say you eat something that can make you that sick and make your save, are you going to be right as rain and say 'Ah yes this three-week-old rotting fish is excellent, a feast for the senses'? ( :V ) No, you would just be less sick. Same thing here, Cob and Akorian felt sleepy, they just did not fall asleep.

Well- that flubbed social was pretty bad. Also suspicious timing on the poison.

Goldfishes plan seems wise though.

Edit:
Also could have been lect behind but the rat dude.

Who knows how many irons they had in the fire.

I'm not sure if this is a prelude to an attack on the caravan? Why only us three being poisoned?

But it is odd that we were made to sleep. It feels like a weird robbery. But... what's the getaway plan? And they risk Mina/her familure being alert if it is a robbery.

Arc 8 Post 8: Stirring the Pot
Stirring the Pot

1st of Neth 4707 A.R. (Absalom Reckoning)

"Cob, you wake Gorok," you call out as the darkness of the woods bends becomingly towards you. "Sickle Tooth..." you call to one of the iruxi who should be close-by, but only silence answers. Pepper's not here either, Mina's sleeping... By the time you resolve to go out yourself your friend had woken with a hiss when Cob swung on his tail with his full weight.

"What?" the question comes out as an angry hiss that quickly transitions to a look of understanding, glancing down at the pot. "Poison."

"Sleeping poison," you confirm as Cob pops up and goes to fetch Mina himself. You half expect some kind of foe to come out of the dark, but by now the nearest sellswords had noticed that something odd was going on around your fire and a trio of them walk up, hands on their weapons.

With other eyes on the woods you murmur a spell of poison-finding, looking down at the pot. Sure enough, all of it glows a telltale blue-green, though you've never seen that hue before. Some compound of the ever-fecund Burnlands.

Gorok Fortitude (DC 19): 1d20+13 = 21 (Success)
Akorian Knowledge (Dungeoneering) (DC 19) = 17 (Failure)

When Mina arrives at the scene her eyes are already glowing a faint pearlescent silver, looking here and there among the river-bank, though she shakes her head. Nothing and no one hiding under a veil. For his part Cob doesn't seem surprised. "Why use poison if you don't need poison? Poison not... poison didn't work, so they got out," he looks around. "Through river, through trees, plenty of places to hide."

Following both his gaze and his train of thought, Gorok tries to find any trail sweeping around the camp and especially the cook-fire a concerned Oka was still using. He certainly does not have the look of a man who just tried to poison his companions with delicious balls of meat. Indeed, everyone in earshot has the chance to learn some new Rahadoumi curse words.

"None of these have been poisoned," you assure him after going through the jars of spices and herbs, 'onions' and 'carrots'. Looks like Cob's guess about having a stealthy visitor is more likely than not.

Akorian Sense Motive: 1d20+14+1 (Guidance) = 33 (Success)

Yet according to Gorok there's no trace of a trail to be found anywhere near the camp, high or low. "Might be a spirit playing a tune we can't hear," he grunts. "Might just be bored and playing with the first new thing to come down the road."

There is some good news at least, the other iruxi had been drawn away by strange sounds at the edge of the woods. They had followed thinking it was some beast, sick or old, and willing to try its luck at hunting warm-bloods. Just another distraction.

Gorok Survival (DC ???): 1d20+19 = 25 (Failure)
Gorok Knowledge (Nature) (DC ???): 1d20+9 = 10 (Critical Failure)

By now both Urgor and Captain Leontas has been informed of the goings on, the whole camp knows. After checking on their people they report that no one was feeling unaccountably sleepy, nor had they for all of today. It seems like your company had been the main target of the attack, though why is still hard to parse.

"Thieves or fey, if there's even a difference, they'll be drawn to the glitter of enchantments like flies on honey," Gavhaul proclaims, sweeping in. "Either way you four should stay closer to the middle of the camp. Captain Leontas, place four of your soldiers on watch around them and make sure they do not partake of the same food." He seems about to depart back to his tent and whatever he's tinkering on in there when he adds, almost in passing. "And have the cook whipped for the lapse of diligence. Ten strikes should be enough of a reminder."

Gavhaul Appraise: 1d20+14 = 21 (Success)

"No," Gorok says before the shocked Oka can even get out words in his defense.

"I didn't ask you," the mage returns testily, as though the iruxi were holding him up for no reason.

"He works for us," your friend insists.

"And you work for me," Gavhaul retorts. "Given the gravity of his lapse and the ease with which it could have been avoided, that is to say tasting the food before handing it off, ten lashes is light punishment."

"That does make some sense, master merchant, but I don't think any of us would want to deal with the marks becoming infected out here," Leontas offers smoothly, trying for a compromise while Urgor looks on stone-faced. By now the others in the camp had caught wind of the conversation and had started to drift this way, wondering if the strange silent scout would defy their patron any further. Whether he had spoken carelessly or not it would be hard for Gavhaul to walk this back without losing face.

What does Kori advise?

[] Accept the judgement, healing will at least ensure this is over quickly

[] Stand firm, there is no reason why cruelty would teach any better than words

[] Write in

OOC: Having poison identified with just a flat wisdom roll against DC 20 is kind of silly. By that logic a random wizard's apprentice can identify narcotizing poison from the planet Eox half the time. So I just made it the closest relevant skill to the type of poison with a base DC equal to the one it uses to poison people. This one did not have any modifiers, but those can exist depending on how rare or obscure the thing is.

Ugh, those investigation rolls not working out sucks, since it means we have no idea if this was a targeted attack or just a fey messing with us for fun.

And now Gavhaul is being a dick and wants Oka whipped for something he likely had no way to prepare against.

Aaaand something is after us specifically, again.

We are really a net-negative for the Expedition so far, to the point that I'd feel sorry for Gavhaul, even if we weren't planning to betray him.

To be fair they might be after the large amounts of loot you are wearing as well.
True, but we are still drawing encounters like the proverbial pile of shit draws flies.

Without us it looks like this caravan would have had an easy ride so far. No Kytons, no rats, fewer rumors about it, and no last-minute change of the logistical solution.

And now no poisoning thieves or fey.

We might still carry our cost over the next stretch of the journey, but I doubt it.

Without us it looks like this caravan would have had an easy ride so far.
Without us on board the caravan might have never reached the shore as they got captured by the Hydra's Fang. Which was... also our doing, but not in any way related to us signing up on this job.

Really, Gavhaul was doomed by the mere fact we set foot in Andoran. Or, considering that the sole reason this expedition exists is also because of us, by the mere fact we were born.

Which eliminates any guilt if we ever felt any. 'Twas fate.

Yeah, fuck Gavhaul.
