I wonder if we will be able to recruit locals to the Auxilia as we conquer planets like the 9th. But instead of turning orphans and mutants into blood thirsty vampires we turn them into The French (both equally soulless)

Instead of sucking on blood, they will be smoking from dawn till dusk till they become good enough at swearing in French.
Nom de Dieu de putain de bordel de merde de saloperie de connard d'enculé de ta mère!'

Let's be the man who fought at Verdun if we're going to be the man from Verdyn, shall we?

Oh really? So this was a permanent posting for that Custodes and those that came after? Still, can definitely see why the deal went down, as sudden Chaos makes former enemies need to team up rather often.
Don't let it be said Emps isn't prone to occasionally indulging a desire to protect earth's cultural legacy.

"LOOK, THE FACT THAT IT TOOK WARP FUCKERY TO ALMOST TAKE DOWN SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE BEFORE MANKIND WENT TO THE STARS SAYS A LOT. OF COURSE I'M GOING TO LEAVE ONE OF MY BEST TO ENSURE THE JOB IS DONE RIGHT."

Example of a Revenant Legion recruitment material.

"a creature that resembles a serpentine canid with a distending jaw and a long prehensile tongue with a stinger at the end"

I mean...if they can turn that into a space marine...all the more power to them. That is some POWERFUl geneseed to unfurk all...that.
Some Chapters have gene-seed with strict criteria that requires the finest of equipment and tools to have a chance of succesfull induction.

Blood Angels gene seed can work on nearly all but the most aberrant of mutants, and be implanted with the most cobbled together makeshift equipment available. There's examples of them using scavenged makeshift facilities in the ruins of a broken Hive city.

You could actually make blood angels using a converted back alley medicae lab so long you have a gestation tank for growing the organs... or without if you just harvest them from the dead.

They truly do run the gauntlet from sophisticated high class vampires to scary bestial vampires to broke-ass slummer vampires. The vibes of half of V:TM's bloodlines in one.

You know, this kind of drives home why where where such a pain to conquer. we where not like so many others just spamming out as many atrocities as we could, we where tailoring the horrors to the target, each crime against decency and mankind itself was tailored for maxim impact and minimum cost. I think by the standards of terra we where a very rare mix of extremely well armed and comparatively sane.
And, to be blunt, the arsenals of Franc were not -that- horrific for a Unification Wars state.

There were no Cybernetic constructs that fed off flesh and souls, insanely drugged supersoldiers, psykers, psychic WMD's, the really bad rad-phages, life-eater, TP-3 and/or other really nasty gasses.

The Phosphex was the worst in their arsenal. But the rest?

The nerve gas was just Sarin and Tabun delivered via shells, and the nuclear weapons were closer to a Davy Crocket but with automatic targetting, not the high tech super-nukes of the Age of Strife. Simple, reliable, not very dramatic, and made in large amounts.
