All jokes aside, Mariana did at least manage to talk about having fought a shadow Pokémon, which she wasn't planning on at the start of the conversation, so baby steps, but there's at least a little progress I feel.
Also entirely unrelated, I hope Poppy and Ostia exchanged numbers, they could both use a friend.

Shrug and wait for it I guess.
We're not beating Nemona, that's been hammered in several times. And that we're already getting ominous text just after badge one highlights just how impossible it actually is to do.
So the only thing I'd be able to do is wait for us to get swept into a more interesting sidestory that the thread decides is worth pursuing. Which is unlikely because people are really set on devoting a lot to this. In which case all there is to do is watch horrified as Mariana burns herself out.
I just want to never think about this otherwise incredibly boring character ever again.
Edit: Like, I wish we'd gone with another Rival not only because we'd have an actual dynamic, but because with how eveything is set up, I completely think that there would be a FAR more interesting narrative with, when Nemona starts pushing people away because of her strength, trying to forge/maintain a friendship with her in spite of that, when we are NOT the kind of person Juliana is and able to immediately click and fix all of her issues, but caring regardless because that's the kind of person Marriana is.
We can't do that though. Because we're right in the thick of it.

Orange text is absolutely "there are going to be serious consequences if you pick this choice". Orange in particular is definitely the color for our obsession with Nemona, particularly, and things that could have negative impacts on the subplot of trying to keep up with her.

Nemona resolves herself at the start of year 2 anyway - She'll start playing with her new girlfriend rival and forget about us entirely. We probably won't even meet.
So like. There's literally nothing we have to worry about. The explosion only means the depression starts kicking in earlier on her end, but we know full well that there's a cure for all her issues on the horizon, so that bit of drama is completely undercut.
I see no problem in ending this as fast as possible.

Based on the 2 Bond Points we got just now, and the additional +2 for our first Bonding Action because we bought the Mishy doll, I think we have a chance of having Renne be ready for a Gym Battle the last week before FE2? But even if I misunderstood, I think we can clutch another 2v3 for Gym 2 with decent odds of success. Roland to 3rd-Badge and Ruby to 2nd puts us in the same position as our first Gym Battle. Renne being willing to get involved in more superfluous things like non-life threatening battles by FE2 also means we're ready for our third badge, as our entire team is unlocked.
Maybe we'll get lucky on the dc roll for renne's bond actions and raise earlier than that

I know we had some, but I assumed that was for the bond continuing at all, due to it being when Renne was very new to us and not confident we could be trusted?... Or was it the one we failed and where succeeding would have let Renne just leave?

My reasononing for Gym is simple: for the best story outcomes we need to keep S-ranking Boss fights.
The Shadow Vigoroth was already scary, and that was with QM underestimating numbers advantage.
If we want to keep being even halfway sure of ideal outcomes, we will basically need our pokemon to be as strong as possible as fast as possible anyway. May as well collect the badges for it.

I want to vote for Double No because I too am not a Sun Fan (Well, the subplot of chasing it, (ultra) Sun and Moon were my favourite games
) but even I think it's too soon to give up on it when I think we are very well equipped to deal with a second gym at least.Also, 3 pokemon will be fine up to our fourth badge, as Leaf says, so all we have to do is make our third pokemon actually usable and we'll be fine!
I think if we passed that dc where she attempted to escaped, she wouldn't have made the attempt and we possibly would've gotten extra bond points

Alright so I checked this to make sure.
The one where we got the roll we did fail, but that signposted a charm roll beforehand. the next one didn't. So I don't think it's a certain thing. I think it depends on what a certain discussion might involve.
