You know, Yzarc described this as a gambit pileup.

Is there another shoe that's going to drop? There are still potential meddlers who haven't come out to play yet, from Cegorach who I mistakenly thought was already engaged to the Deceiver.

If we do manage to pull this off, particularly if we can meet the stretch goal of hi-jacking the in progress ritual and leveraging Kairos' self-sacrifice to empower a working of our own I think we'll have to pretend that it was all 'Just as planned', a masterly gambit of our own to turn our enemies' plots against them, not frantic improvisation in the heat of the moment.

As an addendum, I don't know whether it will be relevant, but if Kairos does decide to die, as part of the ritual sacrifice we could grant him a Wish.

This does make me wonder about another option. I wonder if Lorgar could persuade him to accept ego death as penance for his sins, where the thing that was once him will make restitution for the rest of its existence. We can then grant him a rapid succession of wishes that he breaks the terms for. When you break the terms for a wish, you keep the benefits and are now eligible for a new one.

Ironically, the first of those could be True Faith 10. If we could remove backgrounds like we can mutations, I'd say we should get rid of any Whispers rating he has, as that would be the cause of him falling. Lorgar might be able to use True Faith to remove it, as it's pretty much a curse.

I have to admit though, even if Yzarc might consider the first plan to redirect the ritual and self-sacrifice, I highly doubt he'll let us have an Exalted Greater Daemon akuma. We'd probably get a bit of a side eye from the Emperor as well.

For Exalted yes, we are not playing Exalted. In terms of mechanics this is closer to Exalted vs WoD which takes its base DC from the latter, 6.

Let's hope.

Hm, just as well that this battle was not being fought in a defensive manner. The prospect of a Shadowland opening adjacent to the settlement would have been... difficult.

If the ritual had reached completion, one presumes that the army of ghosts would be attacking Fan Morgal's army as soon as it was finished with the Chaos horde.

Speaking of which, it is a question of how much of the Chaos horde has already been slaughtered by the ghosts.

At this point, can any of the other Primarchs truthfully claim that their formative years were more... colorful than Lorgar's upbringing has already proven to be?

I expect they needed the deaths of so many chaos warriors to make this enough of a place of death to perform the ritual to make it a Shadowland.

I'm very glad we didn't retreat as well. That could have been nasty.

On the Chaos horde, before we retreated we probably did a lot of damage. We killed several sorcerers of their fourteen remaining to bring down the wards, then Dharok sniped a few more, along with some champions and then he beat some more to death hand to hand. The rest of our army probably chewed their way through a bunch of their troops. Lasguns do a lot of damage, and we had souped up versions, as well as what are basically laser machine guns. With the rate of fire they could manage shooting into a horde that was charging up hill to us and then getting bogged down by the Ambuls, over-penetrating shots would have made it even more deadly. Our army could well have killed several hundred of their thousand warriors before we had to pull back. It was very much a target rich environment.

Then, after our army left they were immediately attacked by surprise from within their ranks by ghosts of soldiers in DAoT power armour presumably wielding DAoT weapons, and quite possibly with DAoT augments designed to interface with their armour. It's almost certainly been a slaughter.

If we can defuse/redirect the ritual and either banish or make use of the ghosts, we should probably radio back to our army to come back and hit any survivors of the enemy again, and see if they want to surrender this time. We'll probably have to see if Lorgar and Dhorak can do a mass banishment of any daemon bombs first. If they choose to fight, we can probably kill off the rest of the army.

Hm, with this setting and time period being what it is, encountering a shadowland is a matter of when rather than if.

Afterwards, it would behoove Fan Morgal to research how to close shadowlands.

Unfortunately, the only truly fast way to close shadowlands is via the spell, Cleansing Solar Flames. Otherwise, it is a slow process, to say the least, via geomancy and the like. It is far easier to open than close a shadowland. Hm, well, there is also salt. Salt can be used where shadowlands are concerned.

Extra Speed - 6 Points
The Demigod can outmaneuver a normal human.
System: For every 3 point (up to a maximum of 6), the Demigod may take one extra action per turn without splitting her dice pool. When moving, this allows the character to move one additional range band per turn for every 3 points in the mutation.
so how is Dharok's attacking the same target with 3 actions calculated?

He rolls 3 attacks that are resolved normally.
so when going against an opposing enemies roll how does it work?

is it something like this?
dharok roll #1 Vs enemy roll #1
dharok roll #2 Vs enemy roll #1
dharok roll #3 Vs enemy roll #1

or does it do something like this?
dharok roll #1 + roll #2 + roll #3 Vs enemy roll #1

We can use CCP in real space, so we can do what's usually the slow method very fast.

If we research Mana Manipulation and Hellfire Sorcery Lorgar may also be able to develop something like Cleansing Solar Flame.

So what's gonna be the specialty of Lorgar's Legion this time around?

I'm hoping for a mixture of pre-Fall Thousand Sons and Alpha Legion with more diplomacy.

so how is Dharok's attacking the same target with 3 actions calculated?

The best thing about the the three actions per turn is that Dharok doesn't have to attack thrice.

He can attack, defend, and use a supernatural power, all effectively simultaneously from the enemies' point of view, or do hit and run attacks where he moves; attacks; and then moves again.

I was just thinking about what it must be like for the Chaos Warriors in that army.

They were promised power, and told that we were weak. However, from their perspective, we were powerful enough for less than a hundred of us to give a thousand of them a proper kicking, and the moment some of them started to get second thoughts it turned out they had chestburster daemons implanted in them to enforce loyalty when the Chaos Gods' lies were exposed.

Worse, they would have seen us in our DAoT power armour, and now they've been attacked by a load of ghosts in DAoT power armour. In the confusion of the battle they probably don't know one of their own has turned traitor and is inviting in the Neverborn. For all they're aware this is a final screw you that we threw at them as our main forces retreated, which is reinforced by the fact that we're running through the battlefield and the ghosts aren't attacking us.

They probably can't even run away, as the ghosts are very likely faster than them and have guns.

It is basically Celerity 2, alas those vampire fledglings get more power than us. :V

We could probably give him the Berserker mutation so he could spend Rage for extra actions, but that would also give him a Flaw like the Black Rage, which isn't a great idea.

The important thing about the Extra Speed mutation though is that it's free. Dharok can sustain that pace of activity in a way people who have to spend resources can't.

Hmm. QM's funny rating on my previous post could be very good or very bad.

I fear my hopes of redirecting the ritual and supercharging it with Kairos' self-sacrifice to help the Worldsoul and deliver the ghosts to it may be dashed.

Turn 6: The first Battle - Part 3
Colchis - 831.M30

Lorgar stood before the daemon, his face a mask of solemn determination. The battlefield around him was a maelstrom of chaos and spectral warriors, yet he focused solely on Kairos Fateweaver. The daemon's twin heads sneered, its eyes glowing with malevolent glee, but Lorgar's voice rang out clear and unwavering.

"Look at the destruction you have wrought," Lorgar implored, his words cutting through the cacophony. "The pain, the misery, the suffering, all of it is a consequence of your actions, your corruption. You have twisted reality, bent it to your will, and left a trail of despair in your wake. But it doesn't have to be this way."

Kairos's laughter echoed, cold and mocking. "You think you can appeal to my conscience?" the daemon hissed. "You believe I care for the suffering of others?"

Lorgar's eyes burned with a fervent light. "I know you can feel it," he said, his voice steady. "The weight of the pain you have caused, the lives you have ruined. It must be unbearable, even for a creature such as you. Somewhere within you, there must be a part that longs for an end to this torment."

For a moment, a flicker of uncertainty passed through Kairos's eyes. The daemon's laughter faltered, its twin heads exchanging a glance that spoke of an inner conflict. Lorgar pressed on, his voice filled with conviction.

"You were not always this way," Lorgar continued. "You were twisted, turned into an instrument of others. But you can break free. You can end this cycle of destruction. You can find peace."

The flicker of uncertainty grew, the daemon's eyes betraying a glimmer of hesitation. Lorgar stepped forward, his hand outstretched, the light of his faith shining bright. "Embrace the light," he urged. "Reject the darkness. Find redemption in the truth of your actions and the lives you have taken. It is not too late."

But then, as quickly as it had appeared, the hesitation vanished. Kairos's eyes hardened, and its laughter returned, more mocking than before. "You are a fool, Lorgar," the daemon spat. "There is no redemption for me. I am chaos incarnate. Your light is nothing but a flicker in the darkness, destined to be snuffed out."

Lorgar's face fell, his heart heavy with the weight of failure. The wards around Kairos remained intact, their power unbroken. He stepped back, his light dimming as despair threatened to consume him.

But then, Dharok stepped forward. The light of Lorgar surrounded him, filling him with purpose, but in this place and this hour, it was for Dharok to speak. The battlefield seemed to hold its breath as he moved closer to the daemon, his eyes locked onto Kairos.

"This entity before us," Dharok began, his voice resonating with a quiet intensity, "this daemon has never been mortal. It has not been corrupted; it is corruption itself. And yet, within it, I can feel the conflict, the horror of its own existence."

Kairos's eyes narrowed, but Dharok pressed on, his words unwavering. "I understand your torment," he said. "I have been touched by the same darkness. A part of me was taken, twisted into something abominable. And yet, in its heart of hearts, it wished for an end to its existence, for silence and peace."

The daemon's sneer faltered, a hint of uncertainty creeping into its gaze. Dharok's light burned true, his presence a beacon of hope in the darkness. "There will be no salvation for you," Dharok continued, his voice steady. "But there can be silence. In that silence, there can be peace."

Kairos's twin heads exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with a mixture of anger and something else, something like fear. The daemon's form seemed to waver, the wards flickering as if responding to Dharok's words.

For a brief, fleeting moment, it seemed as if Dharok's words might break through the daemon's resolve. The light of Lorgar shone brightly around him, illuminating the darkness. But then, with a roar of defiance, Kairos reasserted its control, the wards flaring with renewed strength.

"You cannot silence me," the daemon roared. "I am eternal. Your light is but a momentary distraction, doomed to fade."

Dharok stood tall, his light undimmed despite the daemon's defiance. "Perhaps," he said quietly. "But even a moment of light can make a difference."

That was when you truck.

As they were exchanging words, you stood as the eye of the storm. Your Mind-Hands reached out, tendrils of psychic energy sweeping across the landscape. The touch of Maedes, the legendary king of Old Earth, guided you, infusing your power with ancient wisdom and transmutative skill. The 'dying' and the 'dead', chaos warriors, one and all were drawn to you, orbiting your presence as if compelled by an unseen force.

You closed your eyes, focusing on the raw materials swirling around you. The essence of each entity and their panoply, both mundane and mystical, was broken down and refined with near impossible speed. Bones and blood, amulets and warp-stuff, all were transformed into tailored sorcerous tools and reagents. These components, imbued with the energy of life and death, became the building blocks of your counter-spell.

As you worked, the battlefield around you seemed to blur. The screams of the dying and the clash of weapons faded into the background, leaving only the rhythmic pulse of your power. You were the center of a sorcerous solar system, each component of your spell a planet illuminated by the glory of your active Anima. Your mind raced, calculating and calibrating, shaping the raw materials into the precise configuration needed to break Kairos's wards.

The green sun of your power burned brighter, each 'planet' in your sorcerous system glowing with crystal flames. You opened your eyes, now blazing with determination and resolve. The components of your counter-spell aligned, and with a final surge of effort, you struck.

Your Anima exploded to iconic, a radiant beacon of silver and green light. The planets of your sorcerous system ignited, their flames merging into a singular, overwhelming force. The energy of your counter-spell crashed against Kairos's wards, a tidal wave of power that sought to unravel the daemon's defenses.

Kairos sneered, its twin heads mocking your effort. "Do you think your pathetic magic can breach my wards?" it taunted. "You are but a spark against the inferno of Chaos."

You gritted your teeth, pushing yourself to the brink. The strain was immense, every fiber of your being screaming in protest. But you held on, your resolve unbroken. The silver flames of your counter-spell burned brighter, fueled by your unwavering will. You could feel the wards resisting, straining against your assault, but you did not falter.

"This ends here," you shouted, your voice echoing with the power of your Anima. "The light of victory will pierce your darkness!"

The wards flickered, their strength wavering. eyes widened in disbelief, a flicker of fear crossing its faces. The battlefield seemed to hold its breath, the spectral warriors and chaos forces pausing in their struggle to witness the clash of powers.

You poured every ounce of your strength into the spell, the silver flames burning hotter and brighter. The planets of your sorcerous system aligned, merging into three spheres, their combined power focused into a single, devastating strike, so eerily mirroring a cataclysm long forgotten. The wards shuddered, cracks appearing on their surface.

Kairos roared in defiance, summoning all its power to reinforce the wards. But it was too late. With a final, explosive burst of energy, your counter-spell breached the daemon's defenses. The wards shattered, the protective barrier collapsing in a cascade of light and energy.

The shockwave of the spell's release rippled across the battlefield, the forces of Chaos reeling from the impact. Kairos staggered, its twin heads screaming in rage and disbelief. The spectral warriors pressed their advantage, their ghostly forms surging forward to exploit the daemon's moment of vulnerability.

You collapsed to your knees, your body trembling with exhaustion. The effort had drained you, leaving you weak and spent. But you had succeeded. The wards were down, and the path to Kairos was clear.

Lorgar rushed to your side, his face a mixture of concern and awe. "You did it," he said, helping you to your feet. "The wards are down. We can stop him now."

Dharok stepped forward, his light burning brightly. "This is our chance," he said, his voice filled with determination. "We must end this, once and for all."

"Stay focused," you urged, feeling the exhaustion seep into your bones but pushing it aside. "This is our moment."

Kairos, recovering from the shock of its broken wards, raised its staff, the warp energy swirling ominously around it. "You fools," it hissed, its voices overlapping in a sinister harmony. "You cannot comprehend the forces you are meddling with. I will remake this world in my master's image!"

With a rallying cry, you charged, your companions flanking you. Lorgar's presence was a beacon of light and hope, his faith and determination strengthening your resolve. Dharok, burning with newfound purpose, moved with a deadly grace, his every strike guided by the light of Lorgar's influence.

Kairos retaliated, its staff unleashing bolts of eldritch energy. You dodged and parried, weaving your way through the barrage of attacks. Dharok moved in tandem, his strikes precise and devastating, forcing Kairos to split its focus. Lorgar, with a mighty swing of his blade, severed one of the daemon's arms, eliciting a roar of pain and fury.

"You think to defeat me?" Kairos spat, its twin heads snarling. "I am the harbinger of change! The architect of fate!"

You pressed on, your Mind-Hands conjuring barriers and blasts of energy to counter the daemon's spells. Dharok, undeterred, fought with an intensity that bordered on feral. Lorgar, radiant and resolute, drove his blade into Kairos's chest, causing the daemon to stagger.

"This ends now!" Lorgar declared, raising his weapon for the final blow.

But just as the killing strike was about to land, a sudden, eerie silence fell over the battlefield. The spectral warriors, who had been locked in combat with the forces of Chaos, turned their gaze towards you. A chill ran down your spine as you realized something was amiss. The ghosts, who once ignored you, now seemed to view you as their target.

With an unearthly wail, the ghosts surged forward, their spectral forms closing in on you. Panic flared within you as you realized the sheer number of them. They moved with a singular purpose, their grave goods glowing with an ominous light.

"Dharok, Lorgar, watch out!" you shouted, trying to fend off the encroaching spirits.

Lorgar, sensing the shift in the battle, looked around in confusion. "What is happening?" he called out, his voice tinged with urgency.

Kairos, despite its grievous wounds, laughed maniacally. "You see? Even the dead obey the will of Tzeentch. You cannot stop what has already been set in motion!"

You fought desperately, your powers flaring as you tried to keep the ghosts at bay. But their numbers were overwhelming, and for every one you repelled, two more took its place. Dharok was beside you, his strikes losing their effectiveness as the ghosts seemed impervious to his attacks.

"Lorgar!" you shouted, your voice strained with effort.

CHOICE
[] Tell Lorgar to kill Kairos. This will invoke the fated death of Kairos at the hands of Lorgar.

[] Tell Dharok to kill Kairos, banishing him back into the Warp instead. This seems too easy, though it may be the effects of the fated death coming into play.

Both options will end the ritual, so no worries about that. Lorgar does not need Enuncia to kill Kairos as the death mark is active, so the Fated death of Kairos is being invoked here. Though if Kairos is banished back, he will be back as fate will conspire to pit Lorgar against him at a later date.

BTW, you guys rolled 4 dice and needed 5. You almost succeeded but sadly that is not good enough.

Technically, you rolled 3 as the 1s do subtract but since you failed anyway, I let it go.

Hang on. Why would we want them to kill Kairos?

We have Principle Invoking Onslaught. We should kill him and turn him into a reagent.
