The aspect he would otherwise awaken would probably be either Prophet or something related to enduring pain, like Sacrifice.

Can solar martial arts do that? I thought it was being Exalted that gave fate the middle finger.

It's the general usage of essence and the more that you use the fuzzier fate gets and solar hero style definitely has ways to use a fuck ton of essence really quickly.
The point was Fan is around Lorgar and his actions have a great effect on Lorgar's fate, the use of precognition around an infernal Exalt is limited and it is only going to get more so.

There are ways to control the visions and i will present them next turn as an event if you go awaken.
But make no mistake, the event will be.
A. Dangerous
B. Not guaranteed to succeed.
But even in the worst case, this is not game over and you will be provided opportunities.
Just note that control visions is the safe option while Awakened Essence is the Greed option.

All essence usage makes almost* all forms of precognition somewhat unreliable. That said, "unreliable" doesn't mean "Lorgar stops getting bombarded with painful and haphazard visions of never-to-be tomorrows and never-been yesterdays."
*I am not going to go into Exalted deep lore rn, but yes, exceptions exist

Lorgar like all the primarchs is a natural born psychic he can learn mental defenses later but the only way he gets enlightened Essence is through a wish. Not to mention he's not actually having visions of a never be or possible future but rather of his Maker and his brother that are reaching out for him.
