Starship Design Bureau

My understanding is that the Miranda was probably really easy to mass produce in its era, then was really easy to maintain, and afterwards it's not like Starfleet actually decommissions it's ships even if they have been obsoleted.

I imagine the Mirandas have been refitted over time that they aren't completely useless, and are actually capable of being relevant in a starfleet battle. But there's probably no new Mirandas being produced, so the ship is probably like, going to go extinct eventually. Eventually being like, within a century or so.

Man I just keep looking at the angle of those shuttlebays and all I can think about is the nacelle collision from Cause and Effect.

Looking at the display, it seems the main change between the updates is that two holodecks have been added and the aft lounge has been replaced by what I think is a science lab.

So from this we can surmise that Sayle is in favor of freaky hologram sex, but against sitting down.

The Miranda is the B-52 of Starfleet 😝
Nah, the B-52 actually serves a use. It's big and slow yes, but it's basically the word in high altitude bombing when your enemy has lost their ability to contest Air aircraft. It also can carry the absolute most at a decent pace, outpacing naval transport in terms of speed. It's not great in a direct fight but is a massive support multiplier. The Miranda.... isn't. It does not outrange anyone, it's slower, easier to hit, carries limited firepower, limited science utility, and frankly is a very very old design where they are already phasing out the parts to superior ships. If the Mirandas were used for orbital bombardment they might have a use analogos to the B-52 in combat, but frankly that sort of warfare is anathema to the Federation in general, and since there is no wet naval/aircraft divide in space it's even less useful.

So you're saying that the Excelsior is the B-52 of Starfleet? 😉

I want to go with standard photons, quantums are mentioned as hard to manufacture.

The Miranda is the A-10 of Starfleet. Old, only useful for the easiest possible missions with no threat, not particularly good at those and yet still in service for a reason nobody can easily explain

[X] Quantum Torpedoes (Prototype)

Seriously is any part of this ship not going to be a prototype?
