[X] Mend: (Assist Spell: Allows the recipient to ignore Major Wounds, or grants 1 Defense to unwounded combatants)

There are Cases where white combat magic will be better than yellow (i.e. monsters) but for the most part I'm pretty sure lightning covers our offensive needs.

Master Blitzbolt and Sunny glance worriedly at each other, but Mistress Softshimmer just sighs. "He did just have the rug pulled out from under him rather violently," she says. "He spent the last few days arguing that the Regent would never do anything like this, and he clearly just did. That would be enough to shake anyone. I'll go talk to him, make sure he's okay." With that, she turns and leaves the office.

"Liam, leave the girl alone," Master Blitzbolt says. "She's proven that she's friendly towards the Hall; without her warning we would have been caught completely flat-footed by the Regent going mad."
Pretty sure Blitzbolt wasn't present during those moments. Also weird for him to be defending Ryza here. @SoaringHawk218

We learned White Magic for healing, that it also helps cover our Elemental Weakness is just an added bonus, but isn't the goal.

Once we've got Mend sorted out, we're in good shape for White Magic for the immediate future, and can start digging into Red, which is what we need to do better Runewrighting.

Better heals is better heals, since we already have combat pretty well covered with big thunder spells, or in a pinch the good old power of "screw you I am a dragon".

Being able to handle Major Wounds instead of just Minor Wounds is a big upgrade, and healing is why we went for White magic in the first place.

So, counting Ryza, there are 3 other manakete children? Guess it was too much to hope for one from every tribe lol.

I hope we get a Red Manakete. 'Fight with Vigor and Die with Pride' and all that.

Considering Ryza's apparent magic stat and how early we are in the game right now, Mend's pretty much a Restore by a different name. Given typical Mend stats across the series, I'd bet the girl's healing at least 30 HP a pop atm.

There's very little the white offensive spells can do that we don't already have covered.

What does it mean the "ignore" part of the description? It just heals or it works line anesthesia?

Well, I didn't know myself, but Archmage Letoro got a letter
Whoa, hold on Ryza, you can't just spoil that Letoro is a mage - but also as the one who is actually looking to displace Stormspeaker.

Maybe Artemis is the Princess Who was Promised? Maybe Alina is, she's supposed to be a prodigy White mage.

Maybe you are!
oh no

ryza what have you done

you have spoken (well thought) this into existence. your fate is now sealed. get used to more titles in the future.

Come to think of it, I remember that was actually brought up at the start of this Arc when someone called her a big Wyvern and Ryza got all prickly over it and pointed out that the key difference was some extra joint or something in the wings, right? Not something that would be seen at the resolution of the vision that Master Shadesomething described.

EDIT: Confirmed, it's a little claw instead of a knob where the flight magic is concentrated, aside from that, there's a lot of shared ancestry going on.
Well, that and the extra legs, but in theory those would be easily missed at distance and with everything else going on in the vision.

Also, thanks to everyone who's pointing out wrong names, man I was out of it yesterday. I just got the bug to write and wanted to get through the chapter before I lost it and dithered around for a while, seems like there was a drop in quality.

Or I just have way too many similar-sounding names and titles and I'm mixing them up.

Especially since he's still got "Manakete Bad" bias, even if it's reasonable about it, so it's easier for him to think of them as Wyverns instead of Manakete.
