What can we do to alleviate the Legislature's concerns?

Following Legislature's directives would probably be a good start. :V

All-in-war turn when directive was "diplomacy" was a little funny. Like, not even lip service, lol.

To be fair, if we followed the legislatures' directive here, we'd just be attacked again whenever the Baron, Archwizard, or whoever took their places, could build up again

I think the legislature underestimates the general closed-mindedness of people like that. It's pretty baked into the setting, after all, even if to a lesser extent than it is in 40k.

If we didn't seize this opportunity to eliminate at least one rival, we'd just be at war again a few turns from now.

I will try to vote next turn for what Legislature wants.

Also

@Aranfan Could we get an excerpt of what the Strigoi leader is like? What is he and other Strigoi doing these days in regards of protecting the villa?

The thread could have spent at least One Die on diplo even as it simultaneously waged war with that bretonnian lord or whoever. IDK if that would have been enough, but the fact that not even that was done is funny.

technically send agitators is a diplomacy action. It's just that it's clearly in service to the military actions rather than being about reaching out to the common people around you.

Just thought of something but if Sigmar had a chance to directly look at and interact with our poliicy how would he react? On one hand he genuinely cares for people and spelled it out pretty clearly he didn't desire a being a tyrant ruling over everyone and was okay with each province having autonomy,on the other hand considering how much the empire tself has changed much less how different our polity is with a democracy the culture shock would be intense and he probably wouldn't react well to the necromancy considering what Nagash did to him and the tribes(TLDR version fucked with Sigmars head, made him atack his friends and order a Norscan ethinic cleansing and then subjected the entire empire to a giant wave of undead before getting defeated).

He'd genocide us but feel bad for doing it, probably.

Sigmar would destroy the basis of your society by killing the necromancers and he would be utterly sure he was doing you a kindness. Although he would probably be wise enough to understand that you wouldn't agree.

[X] Purge Dhar from Territories

Gretchen goes to work at the fallow fields of the Republic's Ration lands. White Light blazes from her eyes as that which she looks upon has the darkness purged from it. The difference is stark. The land that has been treated feels cleaner, and breathing and relaxation comes easier.

It rapidly becomes clear however that Gretchen will have her work cut out for her if she is to continue this. The fields that have been worked by skeletons for decades are far more tainted than those only worked for a few years. Just one light wizard might not be enough to do more than just tread water when it comes to keeping the territory free of dhar.

[X] Outfit a Skeleton Legion
[X] Outfit a Crossbow Skeleton Legion
[X] Attack a nearby prince in force (2 Dice)
-[X] Baron Cauldin
[X] Send out Agitators

For the first time since the founding of the Republic the Vampires of the Executive Council find themselves defeated politically. When the orders from the legislature came down. Halomik spoke of deepening ties with Dante, Moti advocated talking with the dawi more, while Sinfi wanted to make more inroads among the merchants.

Instead, at the urging of the Head Diplomat, the council elected to send out agitators. Men and women speaking of how necromancy has helped them. How the republic isn't so bad. How much easier life is when the skeletons work the fields enriching the common folk, rather than the common folk working the fields to enrich the lords.

Then, once the agitators have had a few months to work, Berthold raises and outfits a pair of skeleton legions. One with Spear, the other with Crossbow. He arranges them in the manner Sinfi has speculated would be most effective, and he marches on Cauldin's Barony.

The Baron is not found wanting. His scouts warn him and his levy is ready to meet Berthold on the field of battle. Unfortunately for the Brettonian, the best answer to the man on horseback has always been disciplined pikemen, and no pikeman is more disinclined to flee than the living dead. Add in the crossbows and the battle was a foregone conclusion.

With the cavalry driven from the field, and the bowmen and foot soldiers fleeing, there was no one to stop Berthold from going to the seat of the Barony and taking over.

It is three days later, as Berthold is distributing the Grain Ration to the gathered townsfolk, that Sinfi turns up. Tearing control over the skeleton troops from him, she delivers the verdict of the legislature. He is sacked from his position on the Executive Council and is placed on Mandatory Sabbatical from Necromancy on pain of death until further notice.

The Republic has just doubled its territory, approximately, and presumably doubled its population. There are new neighbors, new people to feed, and many problems that the republic is not ready for with the necromancer supply being so tight.

-

Events and Rumors:

More Stigany settle in the Republic: Lured by rumors of an accepting community, another band of Strigany settle in the burgeoning republic. They are warmly welcomed. More cynically, their mystics are direly needed to alleviate the strain on the republic's necromancers.

Peace?: Brettonia and the Empire have signed a treaty affirming mutual respect for each others borders and territories. This is widely seen as a victory for the Empire as Valten turns attention to the bandits, beastmen, and greenskins that plague the forests of the Empire.

Yeah, that bit of military adventurism when our necromancy bottleneck was already tight was a bad idea on multiple levels.

Good way of resolving how it shakes out in the narrative, @Aranfan!

We just got new Strigany settlers, we need new necromancers, let's try and train some of the new Strigany into necromancers.

We also need to get Gretchen some help.

I mean people kept attacking us. Realistically we are going to have to keep doing that over and over again until we have the borders, the economy and the prestige that our neighbors will not think that they can trivially kill us. Leaving aside the whole black magic and vampires part of our society we live in a world and in an age when a state can only exist by the strength of its armies. The Empire and Bretonia, two countries that are vastly more similar than our... necromancy powered republic will be to anyone wage war on each other regularly.

Figuring out our new neighbors, reduce the strain on the bottleneck of necromancy, establish a permanent defensive scouting operation that can hopefully get better for not being a constantly shifting ad-hoc effort, and get Gretchen purging more of the Dhar from our territories to help reduce the strain on our existing necromancers further.

Focus on actually improving the land we just conquered. I believe that we still have enough grain for the grain ration for now?
