Im very opposed to going with Malcador. Are their primarchs we can approach that would go along with this, perhaps?

What I meant by that is that it seems as if someone behind the scenes is trying to orchestrate a situation in which two Legions end up going to war on false pretenses, much like the canon Burning of Prospero as has already been mentioned. Just because Corvus Corax wants the Chainbreakers to fight the Night Lords doesn't mean he's the only person who wants that.

It's possible that someone else murdered Nostramo and then framed Curze.

It's just incredibly unlikely, because Curze has an obvious motive and he's been getting steadily worse.

Because,
a) he's far better at sneaky backstabs than we are
and
b) it'll be fucking hilarious.

Like, a good chunk of this vote is from a meta, 'what kind of story do we want to see?' perspective, and the prospect of Old Man Genocide going full-tilt apeshit on someone seems like a good time.

I could be convinced to talk to maybe Dorn and/or Horus as well, but for now Malcador is the must-have, for me.

So we're going to work with the man who is better at sneaky backstabs than we are for the comedic value of watching him backstab us?

Hmm, I'm tempted when you put it that way, but I think I'll vote for the option that doesn't involve half a dozen knives in our vital organs.

Corax has zero intention of bringing Curze in alive, so we'll be delivering his corpse.

Sigillite voters need to consider the fact that Malcador is much, much better at politics than we are, and he is entirely capable of killing two birds with one stone. He could help us destroy Corax in a way that would backfire horribly on Angron.

Also, approaching Malcador and not Horus is a huge insult to Horus, much worse than just running off with Corax. We'd be choosing the Regent of Terra as our ally and not the Warmaster.

I am approval voting anything reasonable that doesn't involve Malcador. I encourage other posters to do the same. Malcador will be happy to check Curze off his list, and he'll be happy to use this opportunity to prepare the same fate for us.

That was my write in, I'm against anything to do with Malcador, especially right now since we snubbed him, on principle.

The kind of secrecy necessary to continue my work beyond the prying eyes of those who see only what they want would be… beyond either of us, certainly."

"Gentlemen."

Gorefather is in your hand before you can even think, swinging through the air with a furious growl, and is deflected an instant later by the gleaming edge of a strange twin-headed spear. The air shivers with a low moan of wind across barren plains, and from across the interlocked weapons Alpharius meets your gaze with a single raised eyebrow.
Dear God, I knew that Alpharius was secretly evil, but I never realized why before now:

He's French.:mad::p
Despite such less than noble intent, future generations would regard such patrons with gratitude," Magnus says after a few moments more, allowing himself a slow nod as he makes the calculation. "Perhaps we might discuss such matters in more depth in a more comfortable venue?"

Well, you may have just witnessed the creation of a cult network to rival any in human history, but if it keeps the secrets of Prospero and its children safe from the Emperor's covetous grasp, you suppose it will be worth it.
… Given the 20th were always Malcador's Navy Seals, this is either a bitter Alpharius going for a resource or a honeypot.
Very well, Angron," your brother says simply, resting his hands on the glass table and looking you straight in the eye, "I want you to help me kill the Night Haunter."
Aaand that's escalating quickly.
Corax raises an eyebrow. "I admit, I was expecting a different question."

"The man is a lunatic with flaying pits, Corvus. Mass-produced flaying pits, ones he designed himself, like that was a problem he needed to solve. I'm not surprised you want him dead," you grumble, shaking your head and tapping out a brief rhythm on the table. "He's been like this for centuries, and you've had your Legion for long enough. Why go after him now."
… I simply must know if this is true.
A spy," you grunt, because you've no interest in playing word games. It's not like you don't understand the motive; your Chaplains have the populace of your loose dominion well trained to be watchful for any intruders in lightning clad, with standing orders to summon the nearest Chainbreakers if they catch so much as a glimpse. You expect most of your brothers do likewise.
*makes furious Gdoc notes*
"A spy, then," Corax shrugs, yielding the point with a swift cutting gesture from one hand, "He visited Nostramo, the Haunter's homeworld. It's gone, Angron, shattered into fragments by orbital bombardment, with Night Lord corpses in orbit. He killed a compliant world and purged anyone in the Legion who wanted to stop him."
So Konrad did his thing a hell of a lot earlier. Interesting.
I might go so far as to say - and I swear I'm not just trying to reenact the Drop Site Massacre here, though it is a hilarious coincidence - that we might want to drop or leak or set up something that will attract the Night Lords, bait of some kind so tempting that they can't resist clustering up to go for it, in order to pen them in and wipe as many of them out as possible without any escaping.
I know just the perfect place, Thramas has great weather this time of year.:V

We already have two Space Marine legions; bring in Vulkan and that's a third. What we need is to legitimize our action, and to cover it up as much as possible in imperial records.

Also I REALLY want us to talk to Malcador. I dunno if we could actually get the Emperor's BFF on our side but this is too good an option to pass up.

How could he say no when two of his brothers need his help and expertise.
The only issue with this plan is that we'd ideally like for Conrad to bite the dust sometime this century. And if his collab work with Guilliman is anything to go by, Alpharius will insist on taking his sweet time to set it all up if brought onboard.

Small problem with this vote, Cruze wants Konrad dead. So bringing Konrad to Terra to face justice isn't in the cards.

Why are we approaching someone who is far better at sneaky backstabbing conspiracies than we are?

Even if Malcador helps us wipe out Curze, which is quite possible, he could easily find several ways to screw us over in the process.

That's certainly true, the question is whether or not he would. Like, the natural outcome of him just aiding Angron and Corax normally is super beneficial for him. Like, everything else aside, it clearly establishes that the Regent of Terra can discipline legions who go... well, as off the reservation as Curze did.

Besides, even if he does, it'll be interesting.

Also as an aside I think a lot of people are forgetting that Vulkan... can't just command his legion like that, per the discussion Angron had with him. You'd need to convince the Salamanders as a whole, not just him.

We could prosecute him posthumously?

I agree that Malcador would probably like to see the Night Lords wiped out. But there are several problems with this plan.

First and most significantly, we would be asking the Regent for Terra for help instead of our brother Horus. Horus is already likely to be unhappy with this plan, and working with Malcador will make things much, much worse. We do not want Horus Lupercal's displeasure.

Secondly, Malcador could be delighted to get rid of Curze, and he could also use this as an opportunity to learn more about Angron's Legion and identify our vulnerabilities. The old monster is good at his job, and he's perfectly capable of killing two birds with one stone.

We'd have to convince the Salamanders that the Legion responsible for creating "mass flaying pits" needs to be Killed Resisting Arrest. That seems like a pretty easy sell to me.

Very much this. Angron goes around thinking that if things ever come to battle he's stronger than all of his brothers. I want him to either prove it or eat his words.
