There was a Spi...dea. (Sony, Spider-Man Producer Quest)

What do you think about Mike Colter, Samuel L. Jackson, or Terry Crews as Luke Cage?

Genuinely curious as to what you think.
From what I've seen of Mike Colter, his best work tends to lean towards longform media, so a miniseries would be a better fit for him. Not somebody we want to headline a movie, but an excellent actor for another project.

Samuel L. Jackson, ignoring the fact that he's in another contract with Marvel at the moment, would make for an interesting take on an older Luke Cage that would be heavily influenced by the actor, given that one could argue that as someone who has witnessed the highs and lows of the Civil Rights Movement firsthand and was heavily involved in some cases, his take on Luke Cage would be very Jack Sparrow and Tony Stark-esque, in that nobody would be able to imagine the character any other way after that movie.

Terry Cruise depends on who he wants to base his portrayal of the character on, since the man tends to use places and people he's actually encountered in real life to base his characterizations on.
Great actor, but a bit too old to be Luke
Depends on how the script's written and the kinda story we want to take with Luke Cage, an example being him having been an established vigilante since the '60s and because of a bad decision was placed in prison, where he's languished under some misplaced guilt until he gained powers.

  • [X] Plan: The Hero in a Cage
-[X] Show a few scenes of Lucas as a teen doing petty crimes such as: shoplifting, vandalizing, and smoking pot, with his best friend Stryker, and girlfriend Reva, it'd mostly focus Carl's and Reva's relationship through it, and tease at some jealousy from Stryker. But one day, Stryker accidentally leaves a large bag of weed in Lucas' car, and the cops search it, finding it and thinking it was Lucas', they arrest him on possession charges. It is later revealed, that Stryker had intentionally planted the drugs in Carl's car to keep him away from Reva.
-[X] The prisoners were also experimented on, giving them various powers based on the human body (Inhumanly sharp teeth, enhanced speed, enhanced intelligence, etc.)
-[X] It becomes his nickname amongst the prisoners, due to his somewhat... cagey nature.
-[X] He's not called Power Man at all within the movie.
    -[X] Characters:
--[X] Shades is a fairly average gang member within the prison, a person from Carl's past.
--[X] Albert Rackham is a vindictive, racist guard at Seagate Prison who seems to be obsessed with Carl Lucas.
--[X] Cockroach Hamilton is a fellow prisoner at Seagate, constantly seen with cockroaches around him, and tinkering with something he calls "Josh"
--[X] Big Ben Donovan is shown in a flashback to the trial, to be Carl's lawyer, trying to keep him out of prison but unable to do so.
--[X] Curtis Carr, also known as Chemistro is a fellow prisoner at Seagate, helping Carl in controlling his super strength, seeming genuinely enthusiastic at his strength.
--[X] Moses Magnum shows up as a weapons manufacturer, interested in Carl Lucas' newfound super strength, seeming to be in awe of the protagonist. He's not seen for the rest of the movie.
-[X] Have a side-plot of Herman Schultz becoming the top-dog of Seagate Prison.
-[X] Write in: The newly-named Luke Cage, now released from prison, is walking alone in an alleyway when he hears slow clapping coming from a man in the shadows. The man says he is impressed with Luke's abilities, and says that his boss has a very enticing offer for him. He reaches into his coat, pulls out a Daily Bugle magazine, and tosses it on the ground. The front page photo is revealed to be one of Spider-Man as the camera fades to black.
    [X] Plan: A Good Man
-[X] It's the typical case of a racist cop framing a black man for a crime he didn't do. More specifically, someone in the area Lucas lived in was assaulted, and after planting some evidence, a pair of cops arrested Lucas, after he spoke out against their corruption.
-[X] The prisoners were also experimented on, giving them various powers based on the human body (Inhumanly sharp teeth, enhanced speed, enhanced intelligence, etc.)
-[x] Write-in: The Warden Sets up the name and ID of Luke to help cover up the events and hide from the people behind the experiments
-[X] He gets called it by one of the prisoners he's fighting, after showing off his super strength against them.

Man, that was really close. Like, neck and neck. The tension on which one would win was killing me.

Let's hope I didn't inadvertently sabotage our movie with how many rolls we'll be doing for the casting.

Hey, I want a few Director options, other than Quinten Tarantino.
F. Gary Gray; Law Abiding Citizen (2009), The Italian Job (2003), The Negotiator (1998).
Daniel Monzón; Celda 211 (2009).
Simon West; Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), Con Air (1997).

Of them, only Simon West has done anything close to a comic book movie, so personally he'd be my choice if Tarantino doesn't make the cut.

15- Hero In A Cage, and Script/Appeal/Finance Rolls.

You decided to have a few scenes of Carl's past, as a teen doing petty crimes with his best friend Stryker, and his girlfriend Reva. You'd mostly focus on Carl and Reva's relationship, and tease at some jealousy from Stryker, the final scene of these flashbacks would show how Carl was arrested, with Stryker planting drugs in his car for the police to find after he gave them an anonymous tip, to keep him away from Reva.

You also decided to have the rioting prisoners have various powers based on the human body, some having enhanced strength, others having speed, with a select few with different powers.

You had the prisoners call Carl 'Luke Cage' as a mocking nickname due to his cagey nature amongst his fellow prisoners.

Though, you didn't have Carl call himself, or be called Power Man throughout any part of the movie. Mostly because it'd seemed a bit... forced, if you did that. It might be fine for a future movie, if this one does successfully.

After that, you had to decide what characters would be in the movie.

It took you a while, but you felt you had a decent idea of who would be there.

Shades would be shown within the prison, even talking to Carl a few times throughout the movie, where he'd mostly taunt Carl about getting arrested.

Albert Rackham would be an absolute bastard. He'd be a vindictive, racist guard within the prison, who seems to be obsessed with making Carl's life a living hell.

Cockroach Hamilton would be shown to be a somewhat... unstable man, always being seen with cockroaches skittering around him, and tinkering with an unseen object he'd call "Josh", a reference to his comic counterpart's main weapon.

Big Ben Donovan would be shown in a flashback to Carl's trial, where he's Carl's lawyer trying to defend him as much as he possibly can, but in the end... is unable to save his client. You originally thought of having him be paid by the opposition to practically throw the case... but that would probably be too much for a one-off character for now. Though, if you decided to use him later, you could go with the original idea... or make him an ally of Luke Cage's.

Curtis Carr, also known as the first Chemistro would be a fellow prisoner at Seagate Prison, and somewhat of a friend to Carl, even before the experimentation. Though, when Carl does gain his powers, Curtis would be incredibly interested in his strength, helping Carl control it, and just being a genuinely enthusiastic guy.

Finally, you'd have Moses Magnum show up as a weapons manufacturer, interested in researching Carl Lucas' super strength and invulnerability, testing various weapons on him, to no avail. He seems to be in awe of Carl's power, and leaves the prison, promising to see what else Carl could do at a later date. He's not seen for the rest of the movie, though... he could be a villain for a future movie.

You'd also decided to have a side-plot of Herman Schultz transferring to Seagate Prison due to his shadowy benefactor from the Spider-Man post-credit scene, and becoming the top dog of the prison. Eventually leading to him becoming the catalyst of the riot, as the previous top dog and his lackeys want to get to his cell to string him up, for taking their place in the metaphorical food chain.

And finally, for the post-credit scene you decided to have the newly named Luke Cage, now released from Seagate Prison walking alone in an alleyway, when he hears a slow clap coming from a shadowy figure. The man says he's impressed in Luke's abilities, and tells him that his boss has a very enticing offer for him, reaching into his coat, he pulls out a Daily Bugle newspaper, and tosses it to the ground, the front page shows a photo of Spider-Man, with the tagline reading "The Newest Menace of New York!", then the camera fades to black.

Now, it was time for the script to come in, and merge all of your ideas together.

Script Roll: 96.

Holy shit, that was a really good script, that guy Avi Arad had brought in really knew what he was doing, it'd suck to see him leave, but the show must go on... the script had somehow managed to merge everything together in a neat, perfect little bun. You don't even know how the writers managed it, but... they did! And hallelujah for that!

But... if you decided to get greedy, you might be able to get a better one.

[] Get a new script! Nothing ever goes wrong with gambling!
[] Don't be a dumbass.

After that, you'd handed the script to the higher-ups up above, and...

Appeal Roll: 92.

Finance Roll: 92.

The higher-ups had loved it. They absolutely fell in love with the script, and practically gave you carte blanche to do whatever you wanted with the movie. They'd been wanting to make a Luke Cage for ages, and finally gotten a good script, they sure as hell weren't going to let it go.

And you were absolutely fine with that.

Alright, here's a quick vote while I compile ideas for the director. I've already rolled for it, because I forgot to do the script roll first, in my tired state.

And no. I'm not revealing the results of the roll. I'd highly appreciate any and all ideas for directors.

Also, no. The double 92's for Appeal and Finance was not a mistake, I just somehow managed to roll the exact same. And I'll be honest, I fucking laughed. All the rolls in the 90's. What are the chances of that?

And now... I've had a really long day, with Christmas shopping, and social interaction... I'm gonna go to bed.

Seems like a good idea

I say go for Spike Lee. Perfect for the type of movie where he would want to say something (just kidding, he probably won't).
