Also, one of the most effective enemy strategies is to collapse tunneles. Especially on our heads.

I don't like the idea of leaving this kind of enemy alive, especially a powerful one able to make Constructs that can reliably pass for Human, but now would be a good time to cut our losses, if y'all are willing.

If not, I can come up with something different, I guess.

[X] "This may be a common occurrence for you and your fellow Hunters, Lady Anisi, but it is yet another new and unwelcome experience for me and mine..."
-[X] Question the wisdom of following a madman, one possessing both magic and malice, not to mention a grudge against us, down into a dark hole in the ground. We have no way of knowing what mechanical monsters lurks below, nor what traps we may stumble across in the man's lair. The memory of the trap which exploded and so gravely injured us barely a minute ago should still be fresh in everyone's mind. There is also the possibility that he will simply bring the tunnel down on top of us.

Otoh, these 3 lifelike constructs must have been expensive and hard to make.

I doubt he can have much more of that caliber.

Not really all that worried about Constructs. It's the traps and other shit the dude could have added to his pair which are concerning me. We have no one who can detect traps, unless Anisi's group has someone? @DragonParadox?

They do not, though two of them do at least have good perception so the will add to the odds of finding any traps, at which point you could choose to try to trigger them remotely rather than doing so the hard way.

@DragonParadox I was looking at some crusader history and read about the Hautevilles adventures in Sicily. If you included retainers at chargen equal to that number would this merry band be just as dangerous as the real ones who took Sicily in an island with a similar disposition?

The Normans were pretty damn dangerous yeah, if you had that many knights you would have been able to make a go at taking a small realm, though as was the case in history it would have taken as much diplomacy as conquest.

So it is a question of training and better armor then?

We could really have a go at it with enough money

Well that and 200 highly trained er... 'soldiers of fortune' to throw at your target. The thing to keep in mind about the eleventh century is that there really weren't a lot of people whose day job was war, particularly in places like Sicily which were the borderlands of a deeply troubled Byzantine empire. The local peasants were not precisely going to be falling over themselves to repel the Norman threat.

Okay, plan updated. Fingers crossed that this doesn't end up being a terrible mistake. 🤞

-[X] Having never attempted to make our way through a trapped mage's lair, or any lair for that matter, we will defer to the expertise of Anisi and her men, i.e., they can go first. If there happen to be any long poles or lengths of wood among the detritus littering this chamber, we will recommend collecting it, carefully so as to not set off any additional traps, so that we might be able trigger traps from a safe distance. [10 foot pole, I choose you! Use poke!]
-[X] We will leave one of our net users to watch over John and Antonio. They can stay with the horses, where Silver will be able to help keep an eye on them, too.

So, now that Tom is oikely to finally retrain to a proper PC class, which style do we want him to have?

I wante to use a Bec de Corvin, because a Reach weapon which can sunder is awesome. I wonder which style we could have with Tom

After playing some more Path of the Righteous, it seems to be the unfortunate fate for every Cavalier to inevitably stumble into multiple urban combat encounters where they can't use their mount. Just like in this quest :V

There was no real room to stuff two more people into the fight so no they did not participate.
Okay, I'll leave the disposition of those men to Anisi, whether she wishes to leave them behind or accompany us into the tunnel. Either way it works out for us, I think. More fodder down below or more men to keep our poisoned people safe.

He might have a few traps, but I doubt he'll have some hell maze waiting for us.

He lives and works here, so any security measure that he implements to stop intruders is one he has to work around on the day to day.

It'd take a special kind of crazy to walk through a minefield or a tunnel primed to collapse every time he wanted to get into his home office.

[X] Goldfish

That's my hope as well. Then again, this dude replaced his arms with magical prostheses, so he could be that special kind of crazy... 🤔
